PC cards and routers for use with Titanium powerbook

I recently purchased a used powerbook g4 for my wife's writing and installed OS-X 10.4. It did not come with an airport card. I already have a D-Link DI-524 wireless router which works fine with my iMac G5 (ethernet connection) and the PC notebook in the house. I have tried using an Orinoco 802.11a/b pcmia card, TP-Link TL-WN510G card, and a U.S. Robotics 100 Mbps 802.11g card, in the powerbook, and can not make a connection. The Orinoco card was recommended as Mac compatible.
Is my problem likely to be with the router or the PC card? Would purchasing a new router solve my problems? What would you suggest?

How do I export v-card formatted files for use with either Numbers or Excel?

Did you open Automator and just look around?
Actions are listed in the left pane.
You drag them into the workflow on the right in the order you need to process the items that you want.
If this is a on-off requirement, just make a Workflow. If you plan to use it often, make it an Application.
If you want to select the contacts you want to export, use a get Selected action. You'd then select the contacts in Contacts App before running the workflow.
I'm not on a Mac to take screenshots, so you'll have to look at Automator's help or google for more info.

  • Please help on which audigy 2 card to buy for use with logic audio plati

Hello, i'm wondering if the audigy 2 zs card is good to use in my home studio setup? I use logic audio platinum and already have a unitor 8 midi interface so i don't think (question)i need a breakoutbox version of the audigy 2. I used to have a audiowork 8 pci soundcard but that always gave me problems when playing a game (at least most games).Hope someone can help me with this since i realy wanna hook up my equipment to my new computer (dell dimension 3000 with onboard sound)Message Edited by amsterdammusic on 2-5-2004 02:03 PM

i would be you and if you can afford go for the macpro (2008 the 2009 seems to have some incompatilities cf. other thread). By experience allow yourself to have some margin, i mean more cpu power (one day you will maybe use heavy plugins or synth instruments from 3th party software) and this is killing the cpu. So more is always better. It takes me more than 6 months (start last year) to setup my macpro to a stable stage and now i am so happy it can runs without any big problem everything i want. (ex i use superior 2 as an internal synth instrument in Logic (not as standalone, to have the maximum control within logic, and i load it as multitrack instrument, it taxes 40 % of a single core - and because of synth instrument, only one core will function, and i can record without problem 2 guitarists (using GTR3.5), the drummer on a e-drum superior 2.0, a bassist with gtr3.5 and a vocal with buss reverb, in low latency mode - buffer 128- the cpu core reach about 80 %, without soft instrument than you have almost no limit cause all your core will be actifs, i mean recording just audio.).
Hope you understand what i mean here..

  • VIC2-2E/M E&M card and delay. Using with Motorola Astro Modem

    Hello,
I am running a proprietary modem  signal across  Cisco VIC2-2E/M cards (with microwave for transport). 4 wire circuit.
The modem is a Motorola Astro Modem, it runs constantly. It is connected to a Motorola Quantar radio base station on one end, and a Motorola AstroTac 3000 comparator on the other. The Astro modems are constantly 'connected' to each other regardless if there is a radio signal or 'remote control' signal to transmit. When that happens, there are proprietary signalling done to determine if it is digital, analog, what channel etc.
The problem is the Astro modems keep losing the 'link'. I get constant timing errors and other errors I can't find what they are.
The delay on the circuit (this is what the Motorola equipment says) is about 98ms. That is right at the very edge of what it will function, I think 99 and it won't work. The delays isn't constant, but does change slightly from one test to another ( a couple of ms).
So it appears that there are delays in the Cisco transport. The IT person that runs the Cisco equipment says a 'ping' test shows very minimal delays (I recall something like 9ms, perhaps a bit more, but still much, much less).
Therefore I've theorized that the E&M cards are causing the delay- OR perhaps there are other settings that could minimize delays.
What settings in the E&M cards can be changed to optimize speed?
    Please help!!!!

Sorry for the delay, I got busy with other projects and have not gotten back to solving this.
I cannot get the configuration, another agency owns the system.
They way I got the delay was given by the Motorola equipment. My assumption is it is measuring the time it is taking to make the drop with its proprietary signalling.
I can't do a Ping test, since I can't access the system. Plus the only card I have access to is E&M, so of course doesn't do ping natively.
Motorola give the 100ms latency, that could be a round trip, I really don't know (Moto is notorious for withholding information.).
I hope to get back to solving this- currently we are not using the Astro modems at all, but plain old audio. This limits the functionality quite a bit, so I really would like to get the Astro Modems working.
I will try and get as much info- and hopefully I can pass along some ideas for them to modify and optimize the link for us.
Oh yes, everything is running over a microwave link.
    thanks for the help.

  • Wireless routers for use with infinity

Could anyone recommend me a fairly decent router that will work with infinity please? I had the TP link Archer C7 which turned out to be faulty after just a few days. I'm currently using the "faulty" homehub3.0 Type A at the moment, was even considering buying the homehub4 if its half decent. I just want something that works with fairly decent wifi range and a minimum of 1 gigabit Ethernet port.

you may find this link of some use http://forumhelp.dyndns.info/wireless/hh3replace.html

  • Routers for use with Infinity that show line stats...

Please can someone recommend a router that’s reasonably priced that works well with infinity and shows the line stats?

The Draytek Vigor 2750 VDSL router will show you line stats. It replaces both the white Openreach VDSL modem and the BT Home Hub router so would mean you are left with just one box. They're not particularly cheap though (~£160).
Alternatively there is a way to hack the Openreach modem so you can get into it's web interface to view the line stats but I won't post how to do that on here because I'm not sure if that breaks the T&Cs of this forum. Google is your friend :-)

  • Is my Droid Razr Maxx xt912 locked for use with another carrier's SIM - either in the U.S. or globally?

Is the Verizon Droid Razr Maxx XT912 locked to prevent using another carrier's SIM in the U.S.?  Is it blocked to prevent use of another carrier's SIM outside the U.S.?
    Thanks

Hi MattFlash, that is a great questions and I would be happy to help! The good news is that all of our 4G devices would be unlocked and ready for use with another carrier, so the Maxx is ready to go. If you would like to use another carriers service you may need their SIM card and would then need to follow their activation procedures. Hope this helps!

  • Unlocked old iPhone 3GS for use with pay as you go sim in the UK on vacation. O2 sim works while ph plugged in.  Unplugged, works short time and crashes.  Sometimes won't even re-boot.  Software on phone up to date as far as 3GS goes.

I brought an old IPhone 3GS to the UK on vacation for use with sim card.  I had the phone unlocked with approval and instructions from ATT.  Store in the UK recommended O2 pay as you go sim which works as long as the phone remains plugged into the wall.  Once unplugged, it will work for a short time and then always crashes.  Sometimes it will re-boot and crash again and sometimes it will not re-boot at all.  One store told me to sync with itunes which I did on my Mac Book.  I don't know if the sim is defective or if the software of the 3GS is just not compatible with the sim when on the battery.  I have updated the software on the phone as far as it will go.  Any suggestions?  Maybe the phone is too old to use with the latest pay as you go sim cards.  I am disappointed that this phone has not been reliable as a pay as you go and I have had to purchase a UK phone here in order to have a reliable phone.

There is nothing you can do. You bought an illegally unlocked phone off Ebay. A lot of sellers there will tell you it is unlocked but the first time you try to update the operating system it will put the lock back on to the carrier the phone was originally locked to. Sorry but unless the carrier it was locked to will unlock the phone I am afraid you have a very expensive paper weight now. You should have bought it from a reputable dealer instead of ebay.

  • Which iMac for use with Photoshop CS5 and Lightroom

Any opinions on which iMac is best for use with Photoshop CS5 and Lightroom. Not sure if the 2.7 i5 with 512 graphics card is Plenty of power or if upgrading to the 3.1 i5 or 3.4 i7 is a wiser choice given the price differences. Appreciate the help

So I was reading over your post, and even though this is older and has to do with CS5, I have some information for CS6 that will be relevant to your question now that it is time to upgade the software. In general Photoshop has always been more about RAM than Processing power, though that is important too. Until CS5 it could never quite take advantage of what multi-core processors really had to offer, and even the graphics card didn't really effect much of it outside of certain features and the 3D optio
Now that is no longer true and Adobe can effeciently use all aspects of the computer to give you much better performance.
So much so that I was able to buy a brand New ASUS with the following specs:
    Dual Core 2.2GHz Processors
8GB of RAM (4GB original to the machine)
Windows 7 Home Premium 64Bit OS
    320GB HDD w/ 5400RPM
This machine not only runs photoshop CS6 and Launches in less than 5 Seconds... it can run Premier and After Effects as well, and this Laptop cost me less than $400 (on sale at Best Buy 2 Weeks Ago. You don't have to buy something this cheap, but isn't it great that you can and still run Master Collection effectively?
You can read my details on how to buy a Photoshop CS6 Laptop, what specs you need, comparison between Mac and PC and watch the video of my Photoshop Speed Test by reading this article:

Hi Robert and welcome to Apple Discussions,
There are adapters available that convert micro cards into fullsize ones.
You will also need a USB card reader if you do not have one.
    Good luck,

I have an external hard drive that was formatted by a PC and has files and directories copied to it etc. I want to use it on my IMAC for backup. I see it on my my IMAC . I can open files etc.  But I can't seem to write to it nor can I delete current content. I don't care if I lose current content. How do I initialize it for use with the MAC?

You can't write to it because it's formatted as NTFS which OS X will read but not write to. If you want to continue using the drive with both a PC and OS X you will need to download and install NTFS-3G so you can then write to it from your Mac. You can get NTFS-3G at:
    http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/24481/ntfs-3g
If you want to use the drive exclusively with your Mac then move the data off it and reformat it in Disk Utility (Applications - Utilities - Disk Utilities) as Mac OS Extended (Journaled.)

Is there a way to create, store and use preset messages for use with "Messages". I often have a recurrinig message to send, after a repeating event, and need to enter the same short message each time. It would be nice to have this short message stored and selectable so that I do not need to enter each time.

  • Can i buy an iPhone at a pawn shop and get it unlocked for use with Straight Talk wireless?

Just wondering if I can buy a used iphone at a pawn shop or on ebay and get it unlocked for use with the prepaid Straight Talk wireless service? If so, how much would it cost to get it unlocked?

PHones can only be unlocked from the carrier; if you're looking for an unlocked device I'd recommand buying it directly from Apple as that is the only way to promise it is, if you buy it second hand you may find it is locked to a carrier who doesn't support unlocking, or worst yet activation lock
