PC Connection Issues...please advise!

Hello all,
I am having a MAJOR difficulty trying to connect the HTC Droid Incredible to my computer in order to transfer files back and forth.
Whenever I plugged the device (which, I think it is important to state, was a "certified like-new replacement" I received back in January due to an unrelated issue...I purchased the original in August of last year) into my computer using its data cable, it keeps connecting and disconnecting on its own. (Not the cable, the device itself; the connection status goes on and off.) It will go the menu where you can choose the various sync options (charge only, disk drive, etc.) but then this will disappear and so will the icons indicating a connection. (USB icon, battery charging, etc.) This keeps happening over and over until, out of frustration, I finally disconnect the phone. It's almost as if the device is possessed or something.
I know it isn't anything wrong with the USB ports on my computer because I have tried using other devices in them. I have tested them using my mouse and keyboard, as well as an extra mouse and flash drive I have. No problems at all. Thinking it was an issue with my actual device, I contacted customer service to explain the problem and after going through the laundry list of standard troubleshooting steps that every rep thinks solve all problems (battery pull, factory reset, etc.) they sent me a "certified like-new replacement," which I received today. Went through the whole setup process to restore my contacts and set up my Google account and such, and then attempted to connect the phone to the PC again. Did this solve the problem? NOPE! The previously described "poltergeist" phenomenon kept happening. It is also worth mentioning that this just started happening a few weeks ago. Prior to that point, I had no issues with doing this. I am at a complete loss. Neither Incredible has taken any liquid or physical damage whatsoever.
So anyway, listed below are the troubleshooting steps I have attempted:
-A number of battery pulls.
-A number of factory resets.
-Trying no less than THREE different data cables.
-Switching between the four different USB ports on my tower. (Again, I know it isn't an issue with those because I have used other devices in them with no difficulty.)
-Trying two different "certified like-new replacements" (which I'm starting to think is a misnomer, regardless of how many "test points" they pass), the one from January and the one from today.
-Putting the device in "safe mode" during startup (by holding the volume down key, menu key, and trackball as told by a rep).
-Adjusting the PC Connection settings (default type and such)
None of these steps did anything to solve the problem. Once again, this just started happening a handful of weeks ago. Prior to that point, I was able to freely transfer files without incident. So, yeah...please help! If it makes any difference, I am running Froyo, Android 2.2 on my device. Thanks in advance!

Are the computers both wired to the router or wireless? Double check if the cable connections are correct on the router. The router should be connected to the modem on its Internet port. If both computers are wireless, changing the channel of the router might help. What is the model number of the router by the way? You may have to reset and reconfigure it again.

  • Can't get email over shared net connection. Please advise.

I have two laptops, a G4 powerbook and an iBook. My G4 is connected to the net via an ethernet cable and I want to share that connection via airport with my wife's iBook.
I have followed the directions for sharing the G4 connection and it works fine. I can use Safari on the iBook to surf the net, but the problem is I can't access the email server specified in Mail on the iBook. It won't connect to the server. The iBook and has a different email account and a different server from the one specified in Mail on my G4.
Is there some option in sharing that I should check besides web sharing? Or is there something else I need to do? Please advise.
    Thanks.

In the sharing control panel under the "services" option there is no Internet Sharing. There are a slew of options, one of which is "personal web sharing". According to the help menu I need to turn this on to allow the iBook to access the net through my G4. This works. However, the iBook can't get to its mail server to download emails.

  • New Infinity connect issues - please help

We are having ongoing issues with getting BT infinity installed to our new house.  I really need someone that can actually help us find out what is wrong and how we can resolve the issues we are having.
It all started a few months ago when we ordered BT infinity and a new phone line to our new Chapel conversion house.
Initially there were some issues with the engineer being unable to get the phone line to the house. After numerous phone calls and several engineers visits, we these have now been resolved and we do have a working telephone.
The problem seems to be with the Infinity. Nobody can give me an answer as to why we have not yet got a connection.
When the phone engineer visited he said that he would try and connect the Infinity in the green box. – When he went to do this he tried to obtain our patching information and was informed that there was no live order for infinity on our number… As there was nothing more he could do he left.
We then checked with BT and they confirmed that we do have an order for infinity and that there was a problem that needed and engineer to look at. (We have a box and are paying for the service already…
We were told last week that an engineer was going to attend on Monday 13th Jan and that we definitely would have a connection by last Monday at the latest… - no engineer attended despite my wife spending her 3rd day in the house waiting for an engineer!
She phone BT on Tuesday and was told that there was a problem and she would be contacted by Thursday Morning at the latest. – Needless to say , No phone call!!
We really need to sort this connection out.  Is there anyone who can take this and run with it until it’s sorted? – We are getting nowhere talking to random individuals who have no real history of our connection history.
    Please Help!
    Doug

  • MAJOR CONNECTION ISSUES PLEASE HELP!

Right this story is going to be long but if anyone could help it would be much appreciated, yesterday i wanted to find out my ADSL settings for my router but first i needed my admin password which i had forgot. The BTGuide told me that i should re-set my router to default settings by pressing the small red button in order to find out and reset my admin password to log onto the bt online website, which i did.
But when i then reset the router, ALL information had been lost such as the Home Network which had been created between numerous computers in the house. And now the biggest issue, one of the laptops which was working before will not connect to the router, i removed alll networks and even typed in the correct wireless key but it still will not connect to the bthomehub wirelessly.
On this laptop i am using now it also would not originally connect so i had to "Manually connect to a wireless network" and somehow this allowed me to be on the internet, i tried this with my other laptop but it STILL will not connect to the internet. My connection was completely fine before i reset to default settings so is there anyway i can get the previous settings back or more importantly connect the laptop to the internet.
    Since this has happened my connection has also been AWFUL on this laptop, i did a speed test yesterday before all of this had happened and it was this;
    http://www.speedtest.net/result/1330929672.png
I then tested it today and it was this'
    http://www.speedtest.net/result/1332068147.png
Please someone help as the whole internet conenction will not work on some computers and is now completely messed up on this one, cheers if you've actually read this and want to help.
    Solved!

inssider when run shows the networks roundabout you and if there are any on the same channel causing interfernce on your network and stopping devices connecting or losing connection.
as I said enter 192.168.1.254 in your browser and the admin password should be on the back of the hub.  when in to hub manager then just go to wireless and you will see the b/g/n and you should be able to just select b/g.  at the same place you should also be able to change the channel if you want to a free channel according to inssider

  • Router/Connectivity issues please help!

Hello, I'm running Verizon FiOS with the Westell 9100EM Modem/Wireless Router. I just recently upgraded the security settings on this (Upped to WPA2-Personal from WEP, Turned on MAC filtering, and turned off SSID Broadcast). I input all of the wireless devices in my home network (2 laptops, 3 gaming consoles, 1 netbook, 1 desktop w/ wireless card, and 1 wireless printer) into the allowed devices list, and confirmed all of them were able to connect to the home network after turning off the SSID Broadcasting.
The next morning I awoke to find that nothing could connect wirelessly, so I troubleshot that by just connecting again to the network by entering in the SSID when prompted, and entering in the security key. Went to work and came home to find that once again nothing was connecting wirelessly, and that I was getting "Low connectivity" warnings, and I could not connect to any internet service (browsers, IM programs, Windows Sidebar gadgets, etc.).  In the midst of trying to figure out what was going on, we had a power flicker (gotta love Florida) which reset the modem and things came back on like normal.
Last night, I come home from work and what do ya' know... it's the same "Low Connectivity" error and symptoms as I just described, I try resetting the modem... nothing. I try resetting the modem and restarting the computer... nothing. Opened a command prompt and ran ipconfig /all and it pulled up an IP Address of 254.204.X.X (the x's are only there because I don't remember the last two octets), and so I checked the properties of the networking device on my computer to see if somehow a static IP had been set up, but it was all still set up to auto-assign everything. So, I started opening up the actual network properties and checked some boxes, changed a setting here and there, but stupidly didn't make any notes about what changes I made, and then the next thing I know the internet just came to life.
Tonight, once again, I come home from work and school, and the network is pulling the same thing, only this time, I was able to reset the modem/router and it seemed to fix the issue.
My question is this: Did I mess something up when I turned off SSID Broadcast, turned on WPA2-Personal, and set up MAC filtering? Or is there something wrong with the unit? Or is there something else going on here altogether?
If anyone could please help me with this, it would really be nice to get my mom off my back. Thanks!

You don't say what version of windows. I suggest you enable the SSID broadcast and see if that helps. If you are running WPA 2 with AES you are secure enough. The MAC filtering is adding extra overhead that is not necessary. I suggest you get rid of that. Anyone can just as easily spoof the MAC address and anyone can find the SSID if hidden. These are not security measures. WPA2 with AES is.

  • GT72 - CONNECTIVITY ISSUES - PLEASE HELP!

Good Afternoon, I recently purchased an MSI GT72 2QD 216
I love the the laptop so far, but I am having 1 issue, I can't watch twitch streams.  Everytime I try all I get is a sudden DROP in my connectivity
I usually am at a download speed of 50gbs+, whenever I start playing a video on twitch, or streaming pandora or even watching videos on youtube, I plumet to 3gbs (according to speedtest.net)
Is there something I need to do, or some setting I need to do to not have this?  Its getting so bad I can't even watch anyone stream on twitch, meanwhile if I were to stream/play a game the connectivity isn't touched i'm perfectly fine.
p.s. I have also tried this on my older laptops and none of those have the problem.  So its just on this laptop.
    PLEASE HELP!

Your laptop GT72 2Qx already supports 802.11b/g/n and 802.11a/c mode.
The MSI official driver will activate both modes (auto by default, you can check your WiFi card in Device Manager to see this).
So now it depends on the router you connected.
If your router also supports 802.11a/c, it should be able to establish two SSIDs at the same time, one is for 802.11b/g/n (2.4GHz) and another is for 802.11a/c (5GHz). The users can select one of them to connect under corresponding frequency.
Some older routers can only support 802.11b/g/n and establish only one SSID. Even if it supports 802.11a, you still need the privilege to access the router and switch it to run on 5GHz (requiring router rebooting).

  • HTC One Wi-Fi Connection Issues - Please help!

    I need major help!
I am currently on my third HTC One, after two attempts at a solution, and I am still having the same problem. Here it is: I will connect to my Wi-Fi at home, successfully browse a few pages online, press the power button to put it to sleep, press the power button again to turn it back on, then see (in the status bar) the Wi-Fi disconnect then reconnect, try to browse more pages online with no luck because the connection does not work. The only way I can consistently get Wi-Fi to work on this phone is after waking up my phone from sleep I have to turn Wi-Fi off then back on to re-establish the connection.
I've check my settings extensively and changed a few defaults in an attempt to get this to work. Here are my settings currently: "Keep Wi-fi on during sleep" - Always; "Wi-fi Frequency band" - 5 Ghz only; "Wi-Fi optimization" is checked; "Best Wi-Fi perfomance" is checked. My Wi-Fi password was entered correctly and I am currently writing this on a laptop connected to the same home network.
I am at my wit's end. I just want this beautiful phone to work properly. Are there any suggestions as to what might be causing this and how to fix this situation? Or am I doomed to an endless cycle of HTC One exchanges until I find one that works? Please help! Thanks.

It seems that rebooting worked for you.  That's great!
    Here's what happened to me:
I purchased two HTC One phones, one for me, one for my wife.  Both could not connect to my 2.4GHz wifi router.  I did all the usual steps, reboot router, change password and reboot, switch from 128-bit encryption to 64-bit encryption and reboot, etc.  Nothing worked.
    The problem:  Android 4.2.2
The solution:  Upgrade to Android 4.3 (Jelly Bean) via the [Settings] - [Software Update] - [Check New] menu
But how to upgrade when you cannot access WiFi?  Call Verizon.  They will either temporarily extend your data plan to allow you to download the massive 500MB installation package or work with you to put the update on a laptop where you can then transfer it to your SmartPhone via the memory card, or over USB.
This is not meant as a plug for Verizon, but I must say the technical folks are pleasant, patient, and very capable.  And now my HTC One, and my wife's, are happily communicating with many different WiFi routers both 2.4GHz and 5.0GHz.  (Notice picture of two smiling people riding horses into the sunset)
Hope this is helpful to the next HTC One customer.

  • Wifi Connection Issue - Please Help

Pleae help.  I received a new iPod touch 4th generation yesterday.  When you go to the wifi page, it shows the name of our router and when I select it, it asks for the password.  The password is put in CORRECTLY.  And then to the left of the router name, where the check mark goes when my old IPod and iPhone connect to the network doesn't change to the check mark to show that it is connected.  After putting the password in, there is a circle turning around in complete circle, but never changes to a check mark thus not letting me connect to the internet.  Please help.  Several devices are connecting to the wifi at the same time, so I know it is working.
I have turned off the iPod and resarted it.  - still doesn't work
I have reset network settings - still doesn't work.
I have earsed iPod and let it reload - still doesn't work.

  • Connection issues, please help?

I have a Mac and my boyfriend uses a PC now. When we both had macs, we never had a problem with both of us connecting to the router at the same time. My PS3 and ipad connect to it with no problem as well. But now if he tries to connect with his PC and I cam connected it knocks me off and he still can't connect and vice versa. Has anyone lese had this issue or know how to fix this. It's pretty annoying to only be able to use one computer at a time.

Are the computers both wired to the router or wireless? Double check if the cable connections are correct on the router. The router should be connected to the modem on its Internet port. If both computers are wireless, changing the channel of the router might help. What is the model number of the router by the way? You may have to reset and reconfigure it again.

  • IPod Connection issue - Please Help...!

I have a strange problem! My iPod does not connect (any more) to Windows (and hence not iTunes). I have seen lots of other people raising this problem, but mine is slightly different. What happens is that when I connect the iPod, it IS initially picked up by Windows (Vista), the computer makes a 'dun 'sound, and if I'm quick, I can see it in the Devices area (under Storage). But then within a second or two there is another 'dun' sound, anmd the iPod disappears. It never gets as far as saying 'unrecognised device'.
Incidentally, the iPod (event though not recogised) does charge up through the USB port, and (incidentally) other devices (e.g. pen drive) work on the port.
Any GURU's out there that can help me. I'm desperate! I need some podcasts!!!
    Thanks

Go to your "Device Manager" which is under the Hardware tab in System (at least on WinXP). There, you'll probably see the device is having an issue, a yellow "!" or a red "x". First, try updating the driver, if that doesn't fix it ... delete the device from the system. Then restart and reconnect it, let windows automatically install the device again, and it should work again.
I don't know why this happens, but if you look carefully through the forum here, you'll see it seems to be happening quite a bit with Windows XP and Vista.

  • Windows XP Internet Connection Issue Please Help.

    Hi,
I recently had my iMac serviced for repairs, and now I can no longer connect to the internet.
Under my device manager there is one PCI device listed as unknown.
I'm wondering if when I had a new logic board installed that they replaced my network adapter or something.
I don't know where to go to download drivers or what drivers I need.
Anyone experienced enough with this to help me?

From your signature I see that you are using Tiger. Therefore I am assuming that you are using Boot Camp while it was on its beta stage. If you still have the drivers disk that you made during installation then insert that in the disk drive while booted in XP. This should re-install all the drivers and detect that unknown device in device manager. Its worth a try.

  • Many Initial Issues - Please advise

I got two identical new MBP on Wed at the Apple store. I had Time Machine backups from two other older MBP that I used. I ran each of those on the new laptops. Since then, one has been perfect. The other has had many issues...
    - Already one crash
    - Insanely long start up times (currently trouble shooting this)
    - The trackpad skips and freezes constantly
    - The fans are nearly running at 100% all the time now. I think this has to do with start-up, but not sure.
I have run disk permission repair. I have clean cache files. I have run and cleaned out tons of other stuff, with no luck. SHortly, I'm going to do the P,R,Alt,Apple in just a min to see if that does anything.
Any other ideas? Anyone suggest I just take it back? I was told I have 3 days buyer's remorse with no fees and stuff. Is it possible I just have a lemon? I really do not want to spend the time on a clean install and testing for another day or two... that puts me over that 3 day limit, then I have to pay restocking fees, etc.

Thank you all for your insights. I stayed up until 6am last night (this morning) trouble shooting. After a few clean installs, restores, etc. I did a clean install, then restore, then an archive & install. That seems to have fixed the problem. The problems only manifested after my restore. But the last time I did an archive/install so all the system files are fresh and not from my TM restore. When using a TM backup, there is an option to not copy over your system/library files, unfortunately this option was checked and grayed out, so I didn't have the option NOT to install those files.
I do still have one whole day. I'm putting it through it's paces today, and if there's any problems at all, I will return it and hopefully just get a new one right there.
Thank you all again. If anyone has specific insight into why this happens, I would still like your input.
