PC crashed, reformat -- reinstall iTunes -- how to get library back?
Hello
My PC main hard drive crashed, ended up replacing and reinstalling fresh from the ground up--OS, apps, etc.
I've had iTunes for some time, have about 40 songs purchased from the iTunes store. Naturally my iTunes is completely blank now, no music or anything. How do I get all my music back, including what was purchased from the iTunes store?
Is it possible to reverse-sync my iPod to iTunes, load the songs back into the iTunes application?
Haven't had this issue before so not sure if there is an established precedent/procedure?
Thanks in advance...
You should ALWAYS backup your info/pics/music/ etc to an external source. Backing up to the same drive isn't very helpful, as it provides no protection in case of drive failure ( major reason for backing up in the first place).
Just purchased songs -depending on which ipod model.
You can do a forum search as this is asked and answered quite often. Zevoneer does a great job explaining the options.

I have just refromatted my hard drive and reinstalled itunes; how do tie it back to my library on an external hard drive?
If the whole library was on the external drive then press and hold down shift as you start iTunes, then use the Choose option to reconnect to it.
If it was only the media folder, but you backed up the library folder then restore that to <User's Music> in your rebuilt machine and you're good to go.
If you forgot to backup the library folder, but you don't care about ratings, play counts, playlists etc. then shift-start-iTunes, Create a new empty library at the root of the external drive, e.g. at X:\iTunes, move the media folder inside that as X:\iTunes\iTunes Media, then use File > Add Folder to Library to import the media.
Otherwise see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.

so my computer crashed and i had lost all my itunes purchases and dont know how to get them back, so my computer crashed and i had lost all my itunes purchases and dont know how to get them back
You have a backup of your computer, or at the very least of your iTunes media, correct?
Simply copy your backup of your iTunes media into the iTunes library on your new computer.
Connecting and syncing your device to the new computer without first recovering your iTunes media is a really, really, really bad idea. iDevices are designed to ONLY sync with one computer. When you plug your device into a new computer, it will wipe all media on the device when it syncs. The only media you may be able to salvage and transfer to the new computer would be anything bought directly on the device.
If you do not have a backup of your iTunes media, then you will want to either look at a way (using software from a third party company) to either extract the media from you iDevice or your old computer (assuming the hard drive is not toast). -
I keep trying to install and reinstall itunes but keep getting apple application support not found...how do i fix this?
For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.
The section Install missing components has advice on breaking down the iTunes installer into the individual .msi files which might prove useful if Apple Application Support won't install normally.

My Toshiba laptop just recently started showing the the following error message when I try to open iTunes: " iTunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes. Error 7 (Windows error 998)". I did what was requested and reinstalled iTunes, but still get this error message. Help!
b noir I never got any message about an entry point
Many thanks. If we're looking at a "naked" Error 7, I'd start with box two in the following user tip:

I have just reinstalled Itunes but i get an error message 'cant read itunes library .jtl Was created by newer version of Itunes'
How do I fix?Unless you deliberately downgraded iTunes at the same time this may be a sign of a corrupt library. See Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash.

I lost the app "app store" on my iphone. How to get it back? I couldn't find a way neither on the iphone mor on iTunes Could you please help me in restore this app? Thanks
The App store is a iOS function and cannot be deleted. Try checking other home screens/folders and see if you can locate it. If not, go into Settings>General>Reset>Reset Home Screen Layout.

I had purchased an audio book from itunes on my iPad and when I synced my iPad with my computer, my audiobook disappeared. I have already purchased this audiobook, so now I just need to know how to get it back because it is not on iPad anymore. I don't think the audiobook was backed up to icloud but I have the receipt to prove I purchased it. Is there anyway I can get it back?
"If I purchase an audio book in iTunes on my iPad why can't I listen to it on my Mac? "
You can. Why do you think you cannot?
If you purchased it on your ipad, then you would have to transfer it to your computer. File>Devices>Transfer Purchases.
You can then listen to it on your computer. -
I am unable to reinstall itunes. I get the message that it was not installed correctly. I HAVE DONE A SYSTEM RESTORE, I HAVE TRIED TO REINSTALL SEVERAL TIMES ALSO. I get a error message that it's "Windows error 126". Also get "Apple Mobile Device failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services."

i went to put music on my itunes from my ipod and it deleted most of my music off of it and i dont know how to get it back. PLEASE HELP ME. :-|
- Unsync/delete all music and resync
To delete all music go to Settings>General>Usage>Storage>Music>Tap edit in upper right and then tap the minus sign by All Music
- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
- Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

Hi guys...I have just got a new computer and want to get my library back up and running on it. However I seem to be missing some of my iTunes music purchases. Any ideas on how to get them back? They show up on my ipad but not my actual itunes account.
Hello there, Capricious13.
There are great pointers in the following Knowledge Base article. Depending on where you see the content and where you want to get it to, this should guide you to putting it in the right place:

I right clicked my iPod on iTunes and clicked restore from back up because i thought it would undo my IOS6 update. IT DELETED ALL MY PICTURES (2,000) AND I DON'T KNOW HOW TO GET THEM BACK!!!! Please help me!!!!!
Well, if you have not backed them up, they are gone.
Next time, when you have important material in only one place, back it up.
