PC doesn't connect to internet.

I have a wireless network set up at home from my Apple Extreme Base station with no problem to both wireless Macs and a Dell Inspiron 5160. I just purchased a Dell XPS M170 and it see's network and says it's connected but hangs and does not connect to internet. Hourglass comes up every 10-15secs like somethings trying to happen. Thanks for any help.

Are you using any form of wireless security?

  • Pantech UM290 doesn't connect to internet when my LAN is on

I use the Pantech UM290 to connect to the internet (travel between 2 different locations).  When I have my LAN turned on (no internet connection) which I use to connect to my printer (in another room) I can't connect to internet.  Pantech says it's connected but looks like my computer is using LAN 1st so internet connection.  How can I change priority so Pantech is always 1st not my LAN for internet access?

Bob,  I am having the same problem with my UML290: I can't get my computer running Win 7 Ultimate to support both a LAN connection and the UML290 connection simultaneously.  When the Pantech modem is connected the LAN shuts down and I can't access my printer or use a WiFi modem to share connections with Kindels and Laptops around the house.  I would connect the UML290 through a standalone Wireless N router running DD-WRT variant but can't get that to work either.  I can get it to recognize the Pantech but needs User ID and Password which is baked into the software and can't be looked up directly.  Verizon needs to address this situation... soon!

  • Airport status ok. Doesn't connect to internet.

I boot my MacBook up, and instantly my AirPort status says im fully connected to my home network. I load up Safari or Firefox and it doesn't connect. Firefox eventually says cannot connect to server but Safari just continually says "contacting http://xxx.xxxxxx.xx.xx" in the status bar. It doesn't matter what website I try either. It just doesnt seem to want to connect.
Any ideas on how to fix it?
    Thanks in advance,
    Curtis.

A quick and easy thing to try:
Disable the Airport adapter, then enable it. I've seen a problem with the same symptoms and that resolved it. The problem even persisted through a reboot of the machine. Weird.

  • Vista Ultimate in Boot Camp doesn't connect to Internet

Brand new MBP, came loaded with Tiger; I immediately upgraded it to Leopard. Ran Boot Camp, partitioned HD, then loaded a new OEM version of Vista Ultimate. Then I inserted the Leopard disk and it added the drivers. Rebooted into Windows, and now I can't get on the internet. My airport network DOES show up, but it won't let me connect.
This is confusing - I've seen posts here where the wireless DOES work, and others where it doesn't. But nowhere have I seen any solutions.
    Anyone? Thanks.

"then loaded a new OEM version of Vista Ultimate"
I'm not saying that this is the problem for sure, but it could be. OEM version of Windows (any version) is specific to the computer it came pre-installed on. So the computer manufacturer COULD have made so the OS was not fully functional on any other computer. The agreements between computer manufacturers and MS can be pretty weird.
Are you having any other difficulty with Vista besides the internet problem?

  • Apple Software Doesn't Connect to Internet

None of my Apple software seems to be able to access the Internet. Scratch that, Mail can download and upload mail, though it can't non-attached images. Safari just instantly pops up, "Safari can’t open the page ... because it could not connect to the server ..." iTunes cannot access the iTunes store (it instantly pops up a message asking me to make sure my network connection is active) nor can it access radio stations. Dashboard cannot make any connections either.
Firefox works perfectly fine (I'm using it to post this message), as do other third-party applications that access the Internet. I've done nothing special that I can think of that would cause this strange behavior. Everything was working perfectly fine in Apple apps land a few hours ago, and then I watched _Ghost in the Shell 2_ and when I was done with that discovered that the Apple apps don't work. Maybe the Major has hijacked my machine? Or is there something else that anyone can think of? Thanks for any help folks might be able to give.

Check that something didn;t set some proxies in Network CP, Safari & Firefox use different methods.
Try these for DNS Servers in Netwowork>TXP/IP...
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
If those don't work then get Applejack...

After installing, Reboot holding down CMD+s, then when the prompt shows, type in...
    applejack AUTO
Then let it do all 5 of it's things.
At least if it doesn't fix it, it'll eliminate a few questions.

  • Droid Incredible HotSpot shows iPad connected, but iPad doesn't connect to internet

I recently started experiencing issues with connecting my iPad to the internet via the hotspot connection on my Droid Incredible. It has worked pretty well, until this week. My 3G hotspot tethering screen shows that there is "1 connection", however, my iPad isn't recognizing the wifi connection. Since this issue with my phone, I have been able to connect my iPad with 3 other wifi networks--two were public, one was residential. So, that rules out there being an issue with the iPad's connectivity capability.
My phone's current hotspot security setting is:
    WPA2 (AES)
Is there a DNS # that needs to be included in the wifi preferences screen on my iPad when connecting? Is there an update to the hotspot that I need to download?
    Please help!
    Thanks!

If I understand correctly, your hotspot WiFi network is not displayed on your iPad as an available option? You shouldn't have to add/change any settings if it was working before. Try this from your ipad:
Reset network settings by selecting Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. This will reset all network settings, including passwords for other saved WiFi connections.
Restart the ipad. Hold the power button until "slide to power off" appears. Slide to power off your device. When it is off, press the power button to turn it back on.
If the hotspot is still not appearing, you can manually add the connection by tapping Settings > Wi-Fi > Other and entering the Wi-Fi network name, security, and password. You can get the WiFi information from your mobile hotspot settings menu.
If this doesn't resolve the problem, you can call Apple at 800-275-2273 or troubleshoot here:

    Hope this helps

  • After updating snow leopard from 10.6.3 to 10.6.8 my starcomms qualcomm usb cdma modem doesn't connect to internet anymore. Is there any fix?

I also tried to set up my USB Qualcomm Technologies MSM modem on newer MacBook Pro with Lion OS - same result. After authenticating with network it only sends data and not receiving, while Safari show message - NO INTERNET CONNECTION. Is it a known issue? Who knows how to fix it?

    Have you tried Qualcomm support?
    Ciao.

  • Ethernet is active but it doesn't connect to Internet

    I installed Snow Leopard yesterday.
Since then, every time after waking the computer from sleep I was regaining the network connection but not the internet services. I’ve a hardwired cable connection (no Airport).
After reading a few posts I deleted com.apple.internetconfig.plist, com.apple.internetconfigpriv.plist and com.internetconnect.plist from Username/Library/Preferences. This didn’t fix the problem.
After talking to our IT guy in the office (thanks Chris) I changed my TCP/IP set up from “Using DHCP” to “Manual” and entered my IPv4 Address. I kept the same Subnet Mask and Router.
I also turned off the Configure IPv6.
Since then, Internet is working fine.
Is there anything else I should be doing?

If you really have been given a static IP address for your computer, then your "Manual" setting sounds correct and you've probably done everything you need to do.

  • Photosmart c309n-s doesn't connect to internet

My Photosmart is wirelessly connected to my home network.  That part functions fine (for now) its when I try downloading new apps or checking from its touch screen for updates it gives me the error message not connected to the internet.  I  think I had this working once when it was new and after a HP auto update that part quite working. I didn't mind so much then, I would just like to have the whole thing work as designed.I have connected it directly to the router and it shows as wired on the summary page, I still get the same result, it did this with Windows 7 and now its the same with Windows 10. However it does seem to be working much more consistantly with 10 than it did under 7.I am open to any ideas here, or do I just take it out to the country and put a round though it and end my misery? Thanks for any input to fix this.

Welcome to the HP Community , I hope to help you with your Photosmart C309n model showing you that it's not connected to the internet. I will post the suggestions I have for you below and afterwards, the printer should be connected on your network. On the printer, select Setup, Network Menu, Restore Network Defaults, Yes, restart the printer. When the printer starts up select Setup, Network Menu, Wireless Setup Wizard, and follow the steps to connect to your network, the printer will tell you it's connected or not connected when the wizard is done. From your computer, if there is an issue communicating, run the Print and Scan Doctor. This diagnostic tool will check for any conflicts that could be causing the issue and should find and connect back to your network. If there are any concerns, write me back with all of the specific details and I will do my best to help! Best wishes Click the thumbs up icon below to show your appreciation for my reply to your concern today!

  • Airport Extreme Doesn't Connect to Internet

I've been trying, for a couple days - to figure out the AE.  I want to replace my Verizon-provided router, with the AE - because for whatever reason - since adding the Verizon router, my Apple TV's don't see my PC (and my PC is the home to my iTunes library).
I've got a solid green light on the front of the AE.  I've got solid green lights on the back for:  Wan Ethernet connection and 2 PC Ethernet Connections. My AirPort Utility App on my iPhone shows "green" for the base station but "amber" for the internet.  My Apple TV's and iPhones also all show up on the AE.
Should I manually reset the AE here?
Also - even though I have FiOS - I don't have FiOS TV, and the folks at FiOS said there are no unique "gotchas" in switching routers.  And although I haven't tried it - I don't want to set the AE up as a bridge to the Verizon - I want to use the AE and only the AE.
After hours of trying (multiple times) I always reconnect th FiOS router and everything comes up flashing green with good connectivity.
Any ideas on the way forward?
    Thanks much!
    -Coach B.

If you have the HP 2605dn printer attached to the 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn) (or any router) by Ethernet, then the AEBSn is NOT performing as a Print Server. Instead, the printer itself would have to be configured to provide this service.
I don't have this particular printer, but I do have a network-ready HP Officejet model that I have my network clients (Macs, PCs, & even Linux) connect to. The key is either using the unit's interfact panel to configure the appropriate network settings specific for your network.

  • Airport Express doesn't connect to internet

Got a Airport Express to replace my old router. When modem is run into old router get internet with no problem. When I plug it into the Airport Express I loss internet but Airport Express gives green light.  Go into utility and see internet disconnected but Airport Express is green light. I have reset router and airport express and computer in every possible combination possible.
    Any ideas on the problem??

Power off the modem for 30 minutes by pulling the power cord from the back of the modem or from the wall. A longer power down period will not hurt.
If the modem has a battery that is easily accessible, pull the battery as well.
Then reinstall the battery if it was pulled, and start up the modem and let it run for 5 minutes by itself.
Then connect the Ethernet cable from the modem to the WAN "O" port on the AirPort Express and start up the Express to see if the modem will now associate correctly with the device.

  • Macbook Pro Retina - doesn't connect to Internet after "hibernation" but works fine after a complete shut down.

This is a new occurence and is not tied to the Maverick update.
When I close the top of my laptop and reopen it (whether 10 minutes or overnight) and click on the Safari icon - I get my Safari opening screen - but each tab says (Fails to connect).    No problem if I shut the machine off and then restart it.   Connects right away.
As this is not tied to any upgrade or addition of any software or change in the router - I suspect I may have inadvertently changed something and I'm at a loss.   Has anyone seen this and figured out what stupid thing I may have done?   I never go into registries or anything like that and I would be uncomfortable doing that - particulary because I have a fix - just shut down the computer completely after each use.
    Thank you in advance....

If it's a network that requires a password, just a hunch, but I'd try this even though it says WPA2 and different symptoms & HW, wish Apple would update that doc, as many other reconnect problems get fixed by it...

Not certain if this has helped anyone past 10.4.10 yet though. A static IP helped some.

  • Blinking light and iPhone 5s doesn't connect to internet

Airport extreme is blinking yellow and I can't get on to internet with iphone 5s

A persistent, flashing amber light indicates that any of the several potential conditions may require your attention:
The base station has not yet been configured because it is new, or the reset switch has been set.
You have selected a security configuration that is not recommended.
One of several other conditions, such as a disconnected Ethernet cable or invalid IP address has been detected.
    (ref: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305101)
If you run the AirPort Utility, it will show an amber circle on the summary page next to the area(s) causing the problem. Click on this amber circle and it should provide an explanation.

  • WiFi adapter doesn't connect to internet

HP G62-347NR, W7, with Qualcomm Atheros AR985 802.11b/g/n WiFi Adapter. I just finished replacing the screen in this laptop and the wireless won't connect.  Well, it did one time and I can't get it to connect again. In Task Manager the wireless adapter is said to be working properly.  I even uninstalled and reinstalled the adapter.  When I run the troubleshooter it sometimes says "connections available", sometimes "connections unavailable".  At the present it is "connections unavailable".  At  the end of running the troubleshooter it will say "Widow cannot resolve you wireless connectivity issue". I have checked the information entered and it is ATT****, proper security type, and proper password.  The laptop was working fine, just had a cracked screen.  I connected an external monitor to the laptop before I replaced the screen and the laptop and wireless worked fine.  So what do I do.  Thanks.

    Hello SamPrivett,
It sounds like the wifi on this MacBook Pro is not working as expected. I want to recommend this article to help troubleshoot what is happening. There are different instructions depending on what version of the Mac OS is on the computer:

  • Airport express doesn't connect to internet at work

I'm currently connected to my home network using my Airport Express card. However, I can't connect at work. Here is a screenshot of my System Prefs>Network>TCP/IP page:
-One iMac at work previously has connected wirelessly, and stopped connecting once it restarted and tried to reconnect to the network again.
-Another iMac still does connect to the network. While trying to figure out what the difference was, I realized that it has a Router Number:
Is there any other difference that could make this happen? How do I fix it? Thanks for all your help.

I've tried a bunch of 10.1.10.x's and none of them seem to work. The computer that does work has gotten the IP automatically, though.
I've been doing some reading, and it seems as though OS X self-assigns a 169.254.x.x IP address whenever it tries to get an IP from DHCP and fails. Aside from turning off both the router and the modem for about 15 minutes, is there any other way to make the router give me an IP address? And why does one of the computers work? Do you think that if we tried to renew the DHCP lease on that computer, it wouldn't be able to get one?
I'm not sure what the router is set to give out. How would I check that?
