Pc doesn't connect to network

I have an older IBM ThinkPad. Recently the computer has not been able to connect to the network and intermittently shows "acquiring network address".

Try to change the port setting in your Air Port Extreme base.

  • My mac doesn't connect to my home network by default

My computer doesn't connect to my Airport basestation by default. The WiFi at the top bar is not connected, if I click on the WiFi symbol I see my connection and 2 of my neighbors, but none are connected by default. I always have to manually select my basestation. When I open Safari for the 1st time I get a "not connected to the Internet" type error. When I click diagnose and walk through the steps of selecting my location and basestation it connects without an issue.
I've gone into the System Preferences and tried to create a new location, but no luck. When I look in System Preferences and click into 'Advanced' my network is the only one listed in the Preferred Networks window. Why does it not connect by default. If I restart the computer I have to manually select my network again.

Have you tried deleting the SSID in the Preferred Networks section and then reentering it?

  • My Macbook sometimes doesn't connect to my Wireless N network

I had my topcase replaced by apple a few weeks ago. Since then I've noticed my macbook SOMETIMES doesn't connect to my wireless N network (from my AEBS running on 5.8ghz frequency).
It's strange because most of the time it finds the network fine. But sometimes when i open the macbook up (awakes from sleep) it doesn't see the network (it's not available from the list of available networks). If i try to connect manually to the network when this happens i get a "connection timeout" message. If i turn off my airport connection off and then on with the macbook (thru the menu bar) it sometimes finds the N network. Sometimes that doesn't work, and i have to put the macbook to sleep and hope it finds the network when it awakes. Sometimes that solves the problem, but i may have to try it 3 or 4 times.
If i switch my AEBS to a mixed signal (supporting G) i don't have these problems, but i shouldn't have to do that, and i'm sacrificing wireless speed if i do that. I have a stable connection when it DOES find the network (it won't drop out and will be at full strength) but as soon as i put it to sleep i run the risk it may not find the network when it awakes.
As i said before i didn't notice this problem before I sent in the macbook to have the topcase repaired - is it possible the airport card was damaged? I was only running a N wireless network a week prior to submitting the macbook for repair, so i'm not positive that's it either.

There's a reason why some are less than energetic in answering your question: the "pinwheel of death" could mean a lot of things. To start off, you will need to use various utilities to coax your MBP into functionality:
    1. Perform a Permisions Repair, and also Repair your disk on Disk Utilities. If this doesn't work, proceed to the next step.
    2. Using a free utility like Onyx, clean your caches.
    3. Using the free Kext Wizard, make sure your files are consistent and accurate.
    4. Use OpenDNS by connecting to this link:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2478039?start=0&tstart=0
OpenDNS is a simple way of making your online experience faster and easier.
If these steps were successful, take the time to post here; others will profit from your experience. If you still don't have the answer, post...and we'll find the solution!

So by the virtue of my MacBook being compliant with the 802.11d standard I am open to these issues? And from the way you are explaining it it sounds like Apple is ahead of the curve with implementing 802.11d compliance?
They're not ahead of the curve +per se+, but as an example many Windows XP machines are behind the curve if you will.
Would it be legal to write an app or driver that you can set ignore certain problem country codes when you want it to? Because something like this would help my issue also rather than playing lotto each time I turn my MacBook on or wake it from sleep, hoping it will see my wireless network first.
Unfortunately, I'm not a lawyer and not in Australia so I couldn't begin to guess at what is legal and what's not in this arena.
However, there is no interface to the driver to be able to manually set a country code, so the point may be moot.
I don't know what kisMAC can and cannot display, but the country code is broadcast within the 802.11 beacon frame and/or probe response frame if the frame's dot11MultiDomainCapabilityEnabled option is true, so you may want to try looking at its output of beacon frames.
Three octets make up the country code - the two character country code and a third octet which is one of:
        * An ASCII space character (0x20) if the regulations under which the 802.11 station is operating encompass all environments in the country.
        * An ASCII ‘O’ character (0x4F) if the regulations under which the 802.11 station is operating are for an outdoor environment only.
        * An ASCII ‘I’ character (0x49) if the regulations under which the 802.11 station is operating are for an indoor environment only.
The way the 802.11d standard specifies this all works is:
9.9.1 Operation upon entering a regulatory domain
A STA that is enabled for operation across regulatory domains shall default to passive scanning when it has lost connectivity with its ESS. Passive scanning is performed using only the receive capabilities of the station and is, thus, compatible with regulatory requirements. The timeout for determining the loss of connectivity is system dependent and beyond the scope of this standard.
When a STA enters a regulatory domain, it shall passively scan to learn at least one valid channel, i.e., a channel upon which it detects IEEE Std 802.11 frames. The Beacon frame contains information on the country code, the maximum allowable transmit power, and the channels to be used for the regulatory domain. Optionally, the Beacon frame may also include, on a periodic basis, the regulatory information that would be returned in a Probe Response frame. Once the STA has acquired the information so that it is able to meet the transmit requirements of the regulatory domain, it shall transmit a Probe Request to an AP to gain the additional regulatory domain information contained in the Probe Response frame, unless the information was previously received in a Beacon fame. The STA then has sufficient information available to configure its PHY for operation in the regulatory domain.

Note that this spec dates to 2001, so it's hardly something "new," just something that wasn't necessarily widely supported.

My Mac Mini (Mid 2011) doesn't connect to Time Capsule in 5GHz Network. This WiFi Network don't appear in the WiFi list. What's Wrong?

Oh yes, & 5 GHz doesn't do walls very well at all.
    GHz and Network Range
The higher the frequency of a wireless signal, the shorter its range. Thus, 2.4 GHz networks cover a substantially larger range than 5 GHz wireless networks. In particular, the higher frequency wireless signals of 5 GHz networks do not penetrate solid objects nearly as well as do 2.4 GHz signals, limiting their reach inside homes.

    Hi, KK93.
Sometimes a simple power cycle of the router and Mac can resolve the issue.  However, try the steps in the article below to troubleshoot the Wi-Fi issue with your MacBook.

My apple tv stuck at setting date and time. Also when connecting yo network doesn't ask for network password

I just went through this last night. (Aug 15, 2013)
What I did to get back up and running. This is not the first time I have lost the network connection with my Apple TV 3
Products effected: Apple TV 3 and Home Sharing (My Apple TV 1 was not effected)
Power down (unplug) the Apple TV and power down your router ( in my case, it is a FIOS router, flipping the on/off works fine).
    Power both items back up.
At this point, I usually can reenter my Apple ID and PW. and reconnect Home Sharing.  But for some reason I was unable to reconnect last night but was able to get it reconnected in the morning. I was jut to tired to deal with it last night.
A new issue that is was able to fix after a good nights sleep.
I did figure out, (after trying to reenter my ID and PW many times and having it tell me that my ID and PW was wrong), that when using the Apple TV on screen keypad to type in the user ID. DO NOT use the ".com" keypad button. Instead type out each character for .com. ( or what ever ending you use for your ID account.)
Once I typed out my full ID and PW. everything is back to 100%

  • Airport doesn´t connect automatically to Network with Zyxel

I am the proud owner of a new iMac Intel core duo 2,83Ghz since last wendsday. When I start the computer, Airport doesn´t connect automatically to my Home Network!! I checked all the settings - even them on the Router - severell times!! I use a Zyxell P-335WT Router. Fact is that allready had a Intel core duo based iMac. The automatically connection worked without any problem!!
Yesterday i phoned 1,5 hours with apple support - they couldn´t find the problem.
Has anybody an idea?? Last option is to put a new firmware on the router, and make new settings.

Same thing here. I have a belkin f5d7230 router. Wirelessly, my pc connects and stays connected, my old G4 with a reaktek wireless card connects and stays connected, and my new macbook pro connects and stays connected.
On my new iMac (purchased 3 weeks ago) airport extreme connects at start up and stays connected until the computer goes in a low power state or the screen saver goes on. then the connection drops. I have to click the little wireless "fan" graphic in the bar and select my network to connect again. This is CLEARLY an issue with this computer PERIOD. Apple needs to fix it one way or another preferably with a firmware update or something... I'm not interested in dragging this down to the apple store to have it sit there for a week.

  • When returning from sleep my preferred network doesn't connect

After returning from sleep mode my prefered network won't automatically connect. I checked the settings and its set to automatically connect to my network. I have to turn of the wireless and then turn it back on or select my network before it will connect.

In Networking,  make sure that Wireless is at the top of the list,  if it is not then move it there above Ethernet.  I also uncheck "Ask to join new Networks"
In Preferred Networks make the one you want the only one,  if more than one set the priority of which one first. Check "Remember Networks this computer has joined"  Most of this is in Advanced.

  • OS 10.8.5 Wi-Fi doesn't find "Preferred Network"

We installed a new modem provided by Comcast that has built in wireless. After naming and establishing the password for the network, I successfully connected via my MacBook Pro, which detected it. Once connected I accessed the "Advanced Settings" screen in the Network control panel.
Under the first "Wi-Fi" tab I dragged the new network to the top of the list of "Preferred Networks." I also confirmed that the "Remember networks this computer has joined" check-box was selected.
Yet each time the computer wakes from sleep or is restarted the Wi-Fi utility scans for networks and doesn't connect to any. When I click on the control bar icon for Wi-Fi the network appears -- usually at the bottom of the list -- and when I click on it the computer connects immediately.
Obviously this defeats the point of remembering preferred networks and is a nagging time-suck at the start of each work session. Has anyone else experienced this problem and discovered a solution?
    Thanks!!

  • After iOS8 update my iphone 5 doesn't connect the wifi properly and battery dies instantly

Hi, I have upgraded my iphone 5 to iOS 8 and after that the full 100% battery discharges instantly even if I do not use any apps.I have to charge it every 2 hours. I do not know what to do now it became unreliable.
Second issue is that I cannot connect my wifi at home in some rooms, when the other iphone 4 is connected perfectly. Sometimes I cannot even see the home network sometimes it shows me it but when I want to connect it says something like error to connect the network. It always connected before the update. I have to use LTE all the time at home now. It is crazy.I am scared to upgrade the iphone to iOS 8.1. I tried to totally reset all setting on my iphone including Network Setting, plus I have turned off background App Refresh and Lowered my brightness to save battery life, but nothing worked. And I'm afraid it's getting worse every day.
Please let me know what I can do. Because it is terrible, I have this phone for two years only and I am very careful to devices I have never dropped it and didn't do anything to make these kind of issues.
    Thanks

Do the restore with out restoring from your back up if that doesn't work I would go in the the apple store.

  • Can't connect to Network Printer

I just bought a laptop with Vista.  I have  wireless router connected to a wired router.  My two desktops are conneted to the wired router and the laptop is wireless to the wireless router.
My printer does not have a wireless card, so I have it plugged to one desktop, and I have the other desktop using it as a network printer.
I can't seem to get the wireless to see the printer.  I have enabled file & print sharing on all computers, and the print spooler service is started on all computers.  When I do "Add a printer" it doesn't see the printer.  I tried doing "Add a network printer" and entering the name as \\computername\printername (where computername is the computer the printer is attached to), but I alternately get these two errors:
"Windows cannot connect to the printer. The server print spooler service is not running. Please restart the spooler on the server or restart the server machine" or
"Windows cannot connect to the printer. Makes ure that you have typed the name correctly, and that the printer is connected to network."
I have not been able to see the desktop computer at all in the network options, but I do see the wired router listed, but no computers connected to the router.
Can anyone help with this?  I am at my wit's end.                     Dan

"Windows cannot connect to the printer. The server print spooler service is not running. Please restart the spooler on the server or restart the server machine" or
see the tail end of my thread here, it sounds a LOT like your problems and my own are similar:

    Hello,
    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-US;2388142
    Might be the right hotfix!
I will be trying this hotfix this week. I have this problem SO bad right now. The only slight difference is that my print server is running Microsoft Storage Server
2003, and all my clients are now windows 7. The problem hits users at seemingly random times, random 5% of the company per day, and all printer pools...it made no sense at all!
I'll keep you posted as to whether the asyncronous RPC reg key helps, or if your hotfix does.
There is also something i found that works (for 48 hours straight anyways):
On vista/7 client, go to Devices and Printers and click Add Printer
Then choose Local Printer. I know your printer is shared on a print server, just stick with me here!!
Choose Create New Port and select Local Port...
When it asks you for a port name, type in the UNC ADDRESS of the printer (ie \\printserver1\HPLaser5000n).
When it asks you for a driver, point it to the right location where you downloaded a clean set of drivers matching your client OS and printer. Or press the Windows Update button.
finish adding the printer. You will notice the name of the printer doesn't have a "...on [printserver1"
anymore, BUT it will still print!!
I have done this for 4 printer pools and for the last 2 days the 1 user i set it up for has had no printing problems. May be total coincidence, but at this point i was willing to try anything. I'm not sure if this constitutes fooling windows 7 into setting
up a remote printer as a local printer, and i'm also doubting this will be deployable via GPO or script...but still, i hope it helps.
