PC freeze after booting with SCB 68 (connection box) connected

My PC hang immeaditely after boot when my signal box SCB 68 is connected. What can cause this error?
Can it be due to some driver problems? Wrong cable? Others who had same problem?

Rune:
Sounds odd to me. Have you tried disconecting pieces of hardware incrementally and reboot to try and isolate the cause? Of course power down the PC while disconnecting hardware.
1. Disconnect any devices/wiring on the SCB-68
2. Disconnect the SCB-68 from the cable
3. Disconnect the cable
4. Remove DAQ card from PC.
If you still hang up during boot, then I would say it is a software issue. Let us know how 1-4 goes.
What operating system, LV and DAQ versions are you using?

  • W520 Freeze After POST with 4TB USB3 Drive Connected to Dock

Our W520 PCs freeze right after BIOS POST and just before our PGP login screen whenever a 4TB USB drive is connected.
If I disable USB UEFI BIOS Support, it boots without freezing, but then my USB keyboard and mouse do not work.
I either have to boot fully into Windows outside of the dock, or unplug the USB 4TB drive.
I have the latest 1.39 BIOS.  I see there was a prior BIOS fix for the same issue with 3TB drives.  Can another fix be created?

This is a Hitachi external drive that has no issues with other PCs. As BIOS 1.38 seemed to fix the issue with 3TB drives, should there be a similar fix for 4TB drives?
    The enclosure is also Hitachi?
If you boot with the drive unplugged from the W520, then plug it in after Windows is running, does it work properly then?

  • Satellite A205-S4617 Freeze after boot. HELP

I have a Satellite A205-S4617 freeze after boot. I have reformatted the harddrive and loaded recovery software, to no avail. I have run a memory test with no errors for at least 40mins. I have tried reading the hard drive outside to a different PC and it looks OK.
I initially suspected memory, but I tested and no errors on the test. Then, the hard drive i checked using another PC and it was OK. Next possibility is the motherboard, but i ran the memory test on the laptop and it worked without freezing....unless the memory test operation is not connected to the motherboard or not enough to test the motherboard. help.
I then tried running it using Ubuntu booting from the CD, and still it would freeze. So I don't know where to look for next.
    HELP.
    thank you very much.

I too would like to see suggestions on this. I am having the same issue with a couple of Satellite A205's, one is a -S4597 (32-bit), the other is a -S4607 (64-bit.) I have tried multiple operating systems, checked, and changed the RAM, and both system have good hard drives. I've completely torn down and rebuilt both of them, applying new thermal paste, and cleaning them, yet both freeze at about the same spot, while trying to initiize the operating system, after having copied the files over. I'm working on using other computers to install the operating systems on the hard drives, then installing the hard drives back in the machines, and seeing if that works.

  • P67A-GD65 (B3) will not boot with external USB DVD connected.

Damnedest thing... just put the build together last night and this was the biggest issue. If I connect my external Samsung USB DVD RW the system stops booting and only displays (B3) in the bottom right corner of my display. If I remove the USB plug the system boots and operates normally. If I connect it to the USB port after boot the system recognizes it and it works fine. The same issue occurs no matter which USB2/3 port I plug it into. I've banged around the BIOS and cannot see any issues in the boot sequence that would indicate an issue. Anyone else in das same boot?

I just came to the forum for the same reason. I'm glad you had a thread already going. Mine is a Seagate 1.5T USB 2.0 hard drive and the screen reads 98 in the lower right corner. Hopefully MSI will get this fixed soon. Other than that the new system is running great.
They are working on it. They sent me a BETA BIOS to try out. The BIOS v1.10B3 was dated 3-17-2011 and it nearly bricked my system though.  Here is the response I sent to them the other night after a few hours with a massive headache trying to bring my system back up:
    Quote
Tried the new BIOS. While it did indeed fix the USB DVD boot issue and let me boot into windows it created a few new issues. After flashing the new BIOS would not recognize my old overclocking profiles from the v1.8 BIOS.. "hole" error. So I manually adjusted all the settings and saved the new settings. I copied them EXACTLY from my previous settings.. I had screenshots which I had printed out as a fool-proof guide. After rebooting I could no longer get into windows. BSOD. If I tried entering the BIOS by tapping the DEL button while booting the system would freeze at the "entering setup...." screen and never progress into the actual BIOS. I unplugged the power, waited a few minutes and held the clear CMOS button on the back panel down for a few seconds. After rebooting I no longer had video output. After much trial and error I ended up having to also unplug my LCD and cycle power on it as well to get video back. But could still bot get into the BIOS by tapping the DEL key during boot. Luckily I have a laptop with all the files on it and I was able to finally re-flash back to the v1.8 BIOS from a USB drive. I'm not sure what exactly you changed.. but I don't think this new BIOS version should leave BETA status.
To their credit they promptly responded the next AM:
    Quote
There were some changes to the CPU voltage, so your overclock settings may not work properly. We are still working on a 1.A release version. It will be updated to our website soon. http://www.msi.com/product/mb/P67A-GD65--B3-.html#/?div=BIOS
I only wish they had informed me of the changes to the CPU voltage up front or included a change log so I could have made an informed decision as to whether or not I wanted to try the BETA BIOS. I was under the impression (mistakenly) that it simply addressed the USB DVD issue. I'll wait for the new release BIOS. I can live without the external USB DVD being plugged in at boot. Bricking my MOBO and having to RMA would be a far less desirable outcome. :p That said.. I'd still recommend this MOBO. It has relatively few issues and MSI support is responsive so far.

  • Mouse freeze after boot

I have two separate partitions on two separate drives which have MacOS 9.2 installed. They are both behaving in the same same. After booting up, I can usually move an icon around on the desktop for a while. Sometimes I can even move it to the trash, but not very often. After a few seconds the computer freezes and I cannot move the mouse.
I have tried rebooting into OS 9 for each of these partitions with extensions off with the same result. I can boot from the install CD and do NOT experience this problem.
I have removed all USB and firewire peripherals and still experience the problem. I still have DSL connected through Ethernet.
I had previousy removed preferences associated with disk burning (USB Authoring, fire wire authoring and SDAP authoring) as suggested by other posts, along with ASLM, Finder and MacOS and System prefs.
I have also rebuilt the desktop DB.
I have not yet zapped PRAM. Should that be the next step? Any other suggestions?
Classic works when run from OS 10.4. I am running on a G4 AGP Mac.
If I reinstall 9.2, I believe that I have to wipe the disk clean, install 9.2, then reinstall 10.4, is that correct?

I tried USB Overdrive (on both partitions) with the same result.
I tried to do a clean install of OS 9.2.1 by booting from the CD ("C" at startup) and I had the same result - mouse would freeze right after clicking on the Install icon.
I was able to do a clean install by clicking on the Install icon from the CD while it was on the OS X desktop (it launched Classic and then completed the install). I did this after manually trashing the old OS 9. Unfortunately, I still have mouse freezes when booting from that install also. This was with only the default Apple extensions/control panels installed.
One other interesting note - when rebooting into one of the troublesome partitions, OS 9 always says that memory was corrupt and goes through a repair using First Aid. When rebooting through the other OS 9 partiition, it does not do this. Also after going through this latest series of reboots, either First Aid or the reboot process somehow corrupted the Startup preference. The computer would normally default to boot into OS X. Instead it wanted to boot into the OS 9 which always had the repair memory condition. Even booting by holding down the Option key, it did not give me the option to boot into my normal OS X partition. I had to boot into a backup OS X partition and run Disk Utilities. (Startup preference panel did not contain my default boot drive and none of the folders from that drive showed up in the Finder sidebar). It took a very long time to mount any disks in Disk Utilities sidebar, but eventually it mounted my preferred startup disk, and only then was I able to change the Startup preference panel and boot normally.

  • Neo 2 Platinum freezes while booting with USB HDD attached

This system freezes when a powered-on USB HDD is connected. I realize that the system is trying to boot off the USB device and have disabled all of the USB boot options in the BIOS. However, DISABLE USB HDD is not one of them! Is their any BIOS or other fix available for the problem?
    Moe

After bios update , clear cmos with jumper onboard .
After that you must enter cmos setup and "Load optimized defaults" followed by save+exit
Sounds to me bios if looking for MBR on attached USB HDD ( didn't do this on my Neo2 with 1.C bios and external USB attached)
Set the normal boot order to
    Floppy
    Cdrom
    HDD
    Boot other devices :Disabled
(other boot order can mock things up)
Find "USB KB/Storage support" set to:Enable
    Save+Exit
Boot with USB HDD attached and enter the submenu of "Harddisk boot priority" in cmos setup and all recognized HDD's
wether they are IDE/SATA/USB shall be listed , move your OS HDD witch host bootfiles/mbr to top with PGUP key and save+exit .

  • Mac Classic Freeze after boot

    Hi everyone
I got a free Macintosh Classic recently. It comes with System 7.5.3 in a Color Classic HD (Should be from CC). I booted the Mac and it played the Boot Chime. But right before the Boot Chime, it has some noise and also during it boot, a bit like the sound that we trash a file in Mac OS X. When it finish booting, it halt in a few second or minute. Then I power off the Mac by switching the power button at the back of the machine and restart it. This time it showed a Chess board screen and halted. This repeated for two or three times and I have to idle the Mac for a couple of minutes before restarting it.
I tried to boot without extension or boot with ROM by holding Command-Option-X-O and it still halt after a few minute or second.
Sometimes it wasn't crashed and I can use my mouse again after I re-plug the keyboard and mouse. What should I do to rescue this little Mac?

My PM7600 shows same sympton(mouse not usable for some time) while loading the full system and building up network connections. I have to wait until all is finished(no multitasking?).My XP-PC doesn't react on the mouse-clicking while loading system components from time to time.
Clock: My old Classic(and none of the old Macs) never had that Y2k bug.You can easily change the date to 2006.
IF date/time isn't correct after a short period of disconnecting the powercord the backup battery is gone-mine has still the first battery!
Can HD crash the whole machine? If the HD contains a faulty system this will lead to a crash(bomb appears, for instance). You often can repair the system using DiskToolsDisks or installing a complete new system.

  • Macbook pro 5,1 freezing after boot

I installed arch on macbook pro 5,1 and it boots, but seems to freeze at waiting for udev uevents to be processed. I was able to get it to boot with acpi=off, but it acpi used to work in the past. Does anyone know how to get it working again, or should I just downgrade the kernel?

Thank you for the reply. Yes, I forgot to mention, I did test with the latest kernel (2.6.39). In fact, I have tested with several ways to install Arch, like net-install (which gives me the current kernel after installation) and even archboot 2011.05. None of them get me pass UDev uevents. I looked around on the internet and one old post report a successful install using the installing CD instead of netinstall. So I suspected it's the newer kernel giving us troubles on Mac After installing from CD (not netinstall) one boots into the system 2.6.33 but then ran into the same problem after pacman -Syu (which upgraded the kernel only to 2.6.34) but adding apci=off let the system boots again.
Unfortunately, I don't know even to carry the investigation further. But I think it's important for the community to look into this. Mac is a popular platform.
I will have this Mac (MacBook Pro 5.1) on my disposal for little while and be willing to do some more test on it. If anyone has suggestion, I'm more that willing to try.

  • PB Freezes after boot, even freezes in Hardware Test

We have a beautiful PB G4 FW800. It has started acting up and I've been trying to diagnose it's issue.
It freezes shortly after booting up. I get a good gong, the gray apple and then the Mac OS screen. It always hangs during the initialization progress bar.
I started from the Install Restore CD. Install hangs after the 1st continue button. I restarted and ran the HW test (restart with option key). I selected the HW test and both the short and long freeze during the logic board test.
Why would a HW test program freeze during a test?
    Anyway. Looking for suggestions.
This unit is in very good shape. Perfect screen, a few scratches on the bottom, but if it needs a new logic board it's not really worth the investment is it?

I put the PB G4 back in Target Mode and zeroed the disk.
I tried both the original software restore disk and a Tiger install disk. In both cases the PB G4 freezes very early in either Installer.
The Hardware test comes up if you select the option key and run it. It does collect a correct profile. However, when I run the either HW test, Airport Extreme (the 1st test) passes and then the logic board test freezes up after a second or so.
I asked at the Apple store if they still have a "fix everything" service and a Genius said they did. $400 or something like that. I don't think it's worth it. If it were 1.67 - maybe and a larger disk. Alas.
So I guess I'll sell it for parts. So sad

is it safe (for the cpu, I mean) opening the Power Mac when it's on? Or I should boot with leaving the door open?!? However I have just powered the Mac on, left it alone for 20 min with only Folding@home running, come back, open 2 windows on SeaMonkey... and the computer froze when closing down one window, and it took 3 restarts to boot this time: first time it just stuck at the grey screen with the darker shade of grey apple in the middle (with a strange grey horizontal line just over and left from the apple), 2nd restart it booted up to the desktop view, the mouse was working but I couldn't do anything apart from moving it around the screen, 3rd time is now... I don't think it's overheating (but still...). Thanks for the help.

  • IMAC won't boot with Canon PIXMA MP130 connected

with the printer connected to the machine even with the latest Canon drivers my Imac simply sits idle at the boot stage until I pull the usb connection. Then it continues to boot.If I connect the printer after boot it seem to work fine...what the heck is up ?

It should show (via the times) what service failed to start or sat for ages when the lock up occurred.
Do you hear the normal startup chime when the printer is connected? This would indicate if the POST check has passed.
If you do, then it sounds like the Open Firmware is having the trouble, as it is responsible for initializing the hardware and selecting the OS to use. However, given that you are using Boot Camp, I'm not sure if this changes things slightly.
I would be taking the iMac and the printer in to get checked. By taking the printer, you can try connecting it to another Mac and determine if it is causing the problem.

  • Freezing after updating with a Sonnet 1.35 GHz card on a Sawtooth

yesterday I’ve installed (quickly & easily) a Sonnet Encore ST (1.35 GHz) card in my G4 Sawtooth (400 MHz). The Power Mac booted with no apparent problem as soon as the Mac was closed and switched on, with everything... from the OS to my usual programs running much faster and better.
However, since then it has also started to freeze at random, it happened once on Saturday and then 3 times today... the first time my wife was opening a couple of .doc files with Open Office, and then it was while browsing with either Safari or SeaMonkey, also always with Folding@home on and the last couple of time with Temperature Monitor open... and the temperature (of the hd only, od course) was either 33 or 34° C in both cases, meaning (I guess) the problem is neither overheating nor me running programs too demanding. And apart from these 3 freezings the Mac has been on and working most of the day without any other problem...
The card is used, but the previous owner told me he never had such problems... however he has been using the card first on a Power Mac G4 Digital Audio and later on a Quicksilver... maybe it’s the different bus speed of the Sawtooth causing these freezing problems?
However both in the instructions and on the case it’s clearly stated the cpu can be used on Sawtooth too...
When the Power Mac freezes I can only restart pushing the button on the tower... both the mouse and the keyboard are dead... and then it restarts incredibly fast and I can start working again... it takes a couple of minutes in all, but of course it’s still rather annoying, and I’d like to fix it.
The chap who gave me the card told me I should possibly reset the motherboard... any idea if it will work, and if yes, how can I do it?!?

  • MacPro 2013 freezes on boot with multiple displays.

My MacPro freezes on boot up, at Apple logo or logging in screen with noise.
This doesn't happen with a single monitor, but with 2 or more displays it happens quite frequently.
Or this problem happens when monitor is attached to HDMI port, since as I unplug the HDMI cable,
    it usually works fine.
This problem existed since 10.9.3, but it still exists on 10.9.4.
    Anyone having the same trouble?

Oh, so you’re stuck with DP here…
We have narrowed the problem with computers and DP cable that if, when put to sleep, generate every minute an entry in the console stating “dark wake reason PME:maintenance”
You should try to put your computer to sleep, wait some minutes, then look up in the logs if it keeps silently waking up (nothing else than USB power can be distinguished). On the Mac Pro (late 2013) the power will pulse, then suddenly stay bright with no fan activity, then goes back to pulse.
I saw this on every computer (Mac Mini, MacBook Pro Retina, Mac Pro (late 2013)) that exhibited problems (be it freezing, unable to really sleep, etc.).

  • Why wont my macbook pro boot with external hard drives connected?

After two years of uninterrupted success running my MBP with five external hard drives attached (two USB, two eSATA with LaCie Expresscard 34, one FireWire 800), my MacBook Pro with Mountain Lion 10.8.2 installed will not boot with the drives attached. Starting up with the option key depressed does not work. Anyone have insight? This didn't happen until I upgraded to 10.8.2, so is there a bug fix needed in that update?

Update, I reset the PRAM (i think) and now the chime is back as I start up... small win but thats all it does.
So I decided to dload a copy of Lion and burn to a disc, then try and boot from there. When i boot holding option and select the dvd it sounds like something is happening, contstant turning or reading of the disk, but nothing is happening on screen, just my old friend the apple logo and his mate the spinning wheel. Starting to concede now, just hoping to get my data back, its mostly photos and some files i cant duplicate.
I am going to purchase Mountain lion on my current apple ID using a friends macbook and try and reinstall from there. Although i never had Mountain Lion installed in the first place (just lion) there isnt an option to buy lion on the app store (i dont think)  This is prob my last spin of the dice i think before handing it in, unless anyone on here has some ideas....
