Pc freezes after setting on chip ata device to raid mode
Hi, I have an msi x58a-gd65 MB. I built this pc myself, but have a limited knowledge when it comes to figuring out problems. I have windows 7 installed and everything works on a single hdd. I now however want to set up a raid 1 hdd config. the MB supports raid 0/1/5/10.
So I followed the instructions msi provides in a youtube video, but when the pc restarts it freezes. I cant even access the bios so I have to clear the cmos.
The sequence I follow is as follows (I have tried the following with 2 same size hdd's attached and not attached (customer service told me to try setting it to raid with no hdd attached))
1)enter bios
2)check the boot sequence (hdd's are detected, when attached)
3)enter on-chip ATA Devices
4)Set raid mode to raid
5)save and exit
at this point, the pc restarts and after the msi logo appears, it freezes.
I had two internal pci cards attached, a usb 3.0 and an ide connector.
I have tried setting the MB to raid with the pci cards attached and not attached, same problem exists.
I have the latest version of bios installed, I downloaded from live update.
I was able to enter the raid utility before when I had considered a raid option but I didnt proceed with it. I had an older version of bios at that time.
I would appreciate any help please.

Attached is version M46(Beta)
They apparently had some troubles with the version of the raid rom on the full release and this version has version 8.5.0.1030
>>Use the MSI HQ Forum USB flasher<<
Option 2 and point it directly at the bios file then to your fat32 formatted usb stick.
When the tool is complete, boot to the usb and follow the directions.
Let me know how it goes.
Thanks
Ok, here's what has happened so far,
I have put the new bios,m46,on a USB. When I enter the bios, I can save the old bios on the USB and I can also boot the new bios,m46,but when I try to update the bios,I can't find the bios file.
When I just boot the m46 bios I do get the raid utility option so that part seems to be sorted, now I just need to find a way to update the bios.
Thanks for your help so far Xmad

After setting up as new device, how to retrieve messages ???
Hello Guys,
I used itunes 10.1.1.4 to restore my iPhone 3G running iOS 4.2.1. By restore, I mean delete all data and all settings and everything.
Now I set it up as a new device when connecting to itunes after that restore. I got all my contacts, apps, music, photos, all the data basically,... but not the messages.
I can restore from backup, I've got many backups, but I don't want to retrieve the settings and all what's in that backup.
So all what I need now is get my messages ONLY back.
Please help.
ThanksNo worries. Thanks anyway.
Still looking for an answer though. -
WinXP booted after BIOS update cleared RAID setting, now won't boot in RAID mode
I updated the P965 Platinum BIOS to 1.7 and my system stopped booting. After much experimentation I discovered it would boot if I unplugged the monitor and mouse, so I was able to "upgrade" to 1.6, and it's working again. However, the first time it booted blind with 1.7 it got all the way to Windows before I realized what happened.
My system was set up with a RAID1 pair, but the BIOS upgrade cleared the SATA mode to IDE, and it booted Windows before I changed it back. Now Windows won't boot when I set it to RAID. It complains <windows>/system32/hal.dll is missing or corrupt. It seems to work (mostly) when I put it back to IDE mode. How do I get it back to RAID1?

Hi,
Why did you upgrade to 1.7 bios?
Also, you do not by have by any chance a Nvidia based card in system?

Freezes after few mins. + how to enable Turobo mode/Ultra-Turbo
hello,
here's my system spec :
MSI 875P NEO-FIS2R
Intel PIV 2.6 C Ghz FSB800 (Ht enabled)
2x256 MB DDR400
Maxtor 80 GB S-ATA 150
MSI Starforce FX 5900 Ultra 256 DDR
CD-RW 52x32x52
i have just OC'ed my CPU from 2.6 to 2.8 the default settings were : 203 x 13.0
i have OC'ed the FSB to 215, so now it's 215 x 13.0. i've also tried 231 x 13.0 to have 3.0 Ghz, but that didn't work, i disconnected everything, took out the battery for 15 mins., replaced it and booted again, and everything was normal again. (back at 2.6 Ghz). but i also noticed that i lost all my BIOS settings... . so i just changed everything that i still could remember and turned back to 215 fsb instead off the 231... . now here's the prob : my system runs just fine with the 2.8 Ghz(OC'ed), i have ran some heavy benchmarks and it's all fine and stable, but sometimes my system just freezes, doing nothign, only the fans keep spinning and my monitor just hangs, not black, but with the last image...my question is : does this happen beacuse i OC'ed it or have i forgot to change anything in the BIOS ?? so, is it BIOS-related or OC-related ?
second question : how do i enable the Turbo mode or Ultra-Turbo ?
greetzYes you have to first make sure that you take it nice and easy when you OC, Go up in small steps and stay there for a while, play a game run a benchmark, whatever....You just want to make sure that your PC remains stable and Most important runs COOL ......The one thing that you must change in your BIOS is the DRAM(VDIMM) voltage to 2.7 Volts...That will Most likely stop your Freez-ups....And in order to enable Turbo or Ultra-Turbo....It is on the Frequency and voltage Page at the Top.....These settings are going to tighten up your Memory Timings, so you should start with a Non-Overclocked FSB, And try to enable Fast, or Turbo.....You should do a search on these Subjects in the Forum, as there are Quite a Few......Just remember to go slow and not get greedy, or you might harm your System ...............Sean REILLY875

Powerbook and SSD - Freeze after wake up?
Hi
I installed a Supertalent 32GB DuraDrive ET2 SSD in my PowerBook G4 12" 1,33GHz and now after wake up it freeze. The keyboard and trackpad show no response any more. I have to shut it down or close and open the lid several times.
I read that some SSDs have to be set to "master" by jumper. But this drive don't mention this option the data sheet.
Has anyboody running this drive in an PowerBook?
Any hint to solve this? I tried already a fresh install. 10.3.9, 10.4, 10.4.11 and 10.5 = the same problem.
Thanks in advance
bookpowerI tried to contact them. Without a jumper it should be master.
The manual say nothing about but it cames with a jupmer an 4 screws in the package.
So I tried it with the jumper on the first pins too.
I tried two similar ssd drives in an PB G4 12" 1,0 GHz, PB G4 12" 1,33 GHz and PB G4 17" 1,5 GHz.
On all PB are the trackpad and keyboard are freezing after wakeup. This happens only with autosleep mode. I thried all setings in 10.4.11
If I close the lid or select the hibernation manualy there isn't any problem.
Also I tried to set diferent hibernation modes via the open firmware (write to disk).
Still I can't use the auto sleep settings.
Can I run any protocol to catch what causes this behavior? -

Satellite C655-S5044 won't recognize TSST CDDVDW TS-L633C ATA device after windows 7 update
Laptop: Toshiba Satellite C655-S5044; Windows 7 64-bit
DVD Drive - TSST CDDVDW TS-L633C ATA Device
After an automatic Windows update, the CD/DVD drive is no longer recognized.
Running troubleshoot on the PC yields:
Problem detected with TSST CDDVDW TS-L633C ATA Device Driver has been disabled
Checking for new drivers says I have the latest.
I tried running a microsoft fixit for DVD/CD drives - no problem found
I tried deinstalling the driver, then rebooting. This yields a message:
Device Driver was not successfully installed please consult with your device manufacturer.
I tried the TSST website for Toshiba and that rerouted me here.
Searching the forums I have seen similar issues with other hardware/OS combinations but not exactly the same.
Additional Info from the device manager:
Device Type: DVD/CD-ROM Drive
Manufacturer: (Standard CD-ROM drives)
Location: Location 0 (Channel 1, target 0, Lun 0)
I suspect that I have multiple device drivers on the computer for this device and the OS is installing one that doesn't work.
How can I get the correct current driver and install it?
Does anyone recognize this problem and have a fix?
Thanks.Satellite C655-S5044
I didn't find that model anywhere.
Device Driver was not successfully installed please consult with your device manufacturer.
The driver is native to Windows. Sounds to me like a hardware malfunction.
After an automatic Windows update,..
In a Microsoft forum, they would tell you to do a System Restore to before the Windows Update. If that fixed the problem, then apply the updates one at a time to identify the culprit.

"No bootable device --- insert boot disk and press any key" after setting up Bootcamp
Hi guys,
I am trying to install Windows 7 via Bootcamp but after setting up Bootcamp and restarting the computer I get the error message "No bootable device --- insert boot disk and press any key".
I use an iMac with a DIY Fusion Drive consisting of a 120 GB SSD and a 1 TB HDD.
Since Bootcamp can only be installed on the HDD I believe disk1 is the interesting one. Here is the output of sudo gpt -r -vv show disk1:

I have gdisk installed and am ready to mess around. Any help would be greatly appreciated! So, when I started my iMac yesterday morning it couldn't boot into OS X anymore either. Several hours of restoring later I am back to square one. I tried installing Windows 7 via Bootcamp again but got the same error message. This time I noticed though that Bootcamp asked me to remove the bootable option from the USB drive with the support drivers in order to install from DVD. Does that ring any bells? I am building another USB drive right now, hoping it would ask me again but this I will decline and try to boot from it.
When you restored, was a Time Machine restore used? TM does not backup Bootcamp and does an erase of the partition. It may also erase the entire disk (including the Fusion drive) if the specific backup of the volume layout of the disks indicates a pre-Bootcamp layout.
My MacBook Pro is a 2009 model and also once had a built-in optical drive. I have no idea why it would work on there but not on the iMac.
You also wrote
When I plug the external DVD drive in, the boot manager recognizes a "Windows" disc and an "EFI Boot" disc. If I select the "Windows" disc I get a black screen with a blinking dash.
The blinking dash indicates that it is working, but does not have the requisite drivers to enable the GPU/Mouse/Keyboard on the media being used.
In the MBP case, did you have two drives installed in the MBP, a Fusion configuration, and then were able to successfully install Bootcamp?
For example on a Mac mini I have a DIY Fusion drive, but the sequence was done differently. Bootcamp was installed using a USB stick+Windows 7 ISO.
1. The two disks are not in a CoreStorage set up initially.
2. The second disk is partitioned (64Gb) and a Bootcamp W7 install completed via USB (this is different HW as compared to IMac, because it has no Optical drive).
3. After the HDD is partitioned, the first partition and the SSD are then used to create a CoreStorage volume.
4. Here is the working version and disk layout. (I plan to erase both disks, put W7 on a partition on the SSD, and make the non-Bootcamp+entire HDD in a CoreStorage volume).

After setting up an "Exchange" mail account on my device, iPad/iPhone, it requires a new passcode to be set before data will be downloaded. I did this on the iPad and now have to enter that passcode everytime I turn it on. How do I avoid needing to enter a passcode on my iPhone everytime I turn it on?
The passcode is a requirement set by the administrator of the Exchange server you are connecting to.
It is purely for security purposes.
If you do not want the passcode, you must remove the Exchange account. There is no way around it. -
My Keyboard and Mouse freeze after connecting USB device
In the past few weeks I got this situation where my MacBook Air (13" Late 2010 model) would stop responding to the keyboard and trackpad after I connect a USB device (like an external hard disk, or even my iPhone).
I found one (quite inconvenient) solution: if I connect an external USB mouse and keyboard they work, and after a while the built in trackpad and keyboard start working again. But if I do not have an external mouse and keyboard around me, I am quite stuck and only a reboot fixes the situation.
Any idea what might be causing this, or if there is any solution? It is clearly a software issue, as the hardware can be returned to normal state after reboot.
Note: I have the latest OS - Mac OS X Lion 10.7.3 (11D50) and regularly update my software.I have the same issue, on the same model (late 2010 13" MBA).
I haven't been able to figure out a solution either. Strangely, I recently bought a USB external drive and it *never* causes a freeze upon connection. Only smaller devices (iPod, iPad, FitBit, USB stick) cause it. I need to reboot the computer with the device attached to be able to access it. -
My Mac computer freezes after running for 15 min even after seeting the energy saving to 3 hours. Any ideas how to stop the freezing/
Hi Teodorafrombc,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If your computer is becoming unresponsive, you may want to see if specific applications are causing this behavior. Try using the Force Quit menu to check for unresponsive applications:
Using the Force Quit feature of OS X makes an application close, even when it is not responsive.
Important: Normally you should not need to force quit an app to close it. When an app is forced to quit, any unsaved changes to open documents are not saved, so try these methods to normally close the app first:
Choose Quit from the app menu. For example, in Safari, choose Safari > Quit Safari.
Choose Quit by right-clicking or control-clicking on an app's icon in the Dock
You can find the article with these steps here:
OS X: How to quit an unresponsive application using Force Quit
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3411
If your display is going blank or seems to be going to sleep unexpectedly, try these steps first:
Reset the system
You can reset the Mac's parameter RAM and SMC.
You can find the article with these steps and more information here:
Apple computers: Troubleshooting issues with video on internal or external displays

If these steps don't resolve the issue, feel free to reply with more information about the symptoms you are experiencing.

Monitor freezes after grub starts
Hi,
I'm with the following problem: when I start my computer, in a few seconds after I choose Arch Linux at the grub menu my monitor shows a lot of garbage that does not allow me to see what is going on with my computer. So I don't even get the command line after I start my computer
It's not a problem with my monitor because I can use the arch installation CD to get to the command line.
I tried to use the second option from the grub menu, arch linux fallback, but I had the exactly same problem.
I have no clue of how I can even start trying to solve this problem. The only thing that I could think of was to use the installation CD, mount /var/ and get the messages.log file. The file can be downloaded from:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=90BUSPQP
Do you have any idea of how I can solve this problem?
Thanks!Sorry... it didn't come to me that downloading from megaupload would be such a hassle. Thanks George.Harmony for letting me know.
But the good thing is that the messages from my last boot does not go over the sending limits of this forum:
