Pc G5 2GHz with 1.5Gb DDR SDRAM running OSx 10.4.11. Can I upgrade to OS 10.5
I have an imac G5 2Ghz power pc running tiger 10.4.11. My i tunes 9 will not support the newer ipods and I can't download i tunes 10 due to my OS. Can I upgrade OS 10.5 on to my computer. I have checked the requirements on the apple software site, but not sure if my processor is compatible?
Any help would be appreciated.
2GHz should be fine. RAM is more important - specs say min. 512MB but 1GB or more is really needed for good performance.
Can be difficult to find the DVD though.

Leopard is no longer available at the Apple Store but may be available by calling Apple Phone Sales @ 1-800-MY-APPLE (1-800-692-7753).
If you can't obtain a retail install DVD from Apple, look on eBay or Google the installer part numbers to possibly find at an on-line store. Here's what to look for:
MB427Z/A Leopard 10.5.1 install DVD
MB576Z/A Leopard 10.5.4 install DVD
MB021Z/A Leopard 10.5.6 install DVD (single user)
MB022Z/A Leopard 10.5.6 install DVD (5-user family pack)

After you install the base 10.5, download & install the 10.5.8 combo update at http://support.apple.com/downloads/Mac_OS_X_10_5_8_Combo_Update
P.S. You've posted in the Intel iMac forum; there's a separate forum for PPC iMacs

I have a IMAC 7.1 with a Mac OS X v 10.5.8. Can I upgrade this machine to 10.6.8 or to the latest MAC OS software version?
Yes, that unit can be upgraded to the latest (Mavericks). First you will need to get to Snow Leopard (10.6). Check the link below for details.

have a late 2009 iMac with 2.66 Ghz process, or 4GB 1067 MHz DDR3, can I upgrade to Mountain Lion?
You can upgrade to OS X Mountain Lion and Mavericks. I recommend you to upgrade to OS X Mavericks because it is the most recent version and it is free.
Open the Mac App Store and download OS X Mavericks for free. While it's being downloaded, make a backup of your files with Time Machine and check that your apps are supported > http://www.roaringapps.com
If you still want to use Mountain Lion, you can purchase it at the Apple Online Store > http://store.apple.com/us/product/D6377Z/A/os-x-mountain-lion -

Hi, I just upgraded to an iphone 4 but my macbook won't recognise it as its running OSX 10.4.11. How can I update to 10.5 or is there another way around this problem? I've searched for 10.5 update but can't find it online.
You have to purchase Leopard v10.5 then update to v10.5.8.

Does anyone know if my Power PC G5 is capable of operating with 10.6 or above?
No, it isn't possible.

Any help for this
Welcome to Apple Support Communities
OS X Mavericks needs a Late 2008 Aluminum or an Early 2009 or newer MacBook, so your Mac is not supported. You are running the latest Mac OS X version for your MacBook. -
When trying to upgrade my iPhone to iOS5, it indicates that I will loose all data and apps and that I should update my iPhone using the computer that I sync'd with originally. I no longer use this computer and how can I sync with my new on and not loose my apps?
Great question. I have the same issue. Any ideas?

Is it feasible/cost effective to upgrade my current MAC G5, dual 2GHz powerPC, 2GB DDR SDRAM, running OS 10.4.1.1 to an Intel board & processor(s)? Power PC G5 no longer has updates available. Things such as the newest version of Flash require an intel system.
Any and all advice will be greatly appreciated.
ssbrownWell you can upgrade your 10.4.11 G5 to 10.5.8. But you lose Classic, and don't gain any Boot Camp capability. Only Intel Macs have Boot Camp, and still no Classic. You also have be mindful, if you buy too new, you won't have Rosetta capability which allows PowerPC applications to run on Intel Macs that were designed for Mac OS X. Macs that ship with 10.7 or newer have no PowerPC support for applications or drivers. See this user tip: https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-2295

I want to link all my apple products so I can use icloud with ease but I am running OSX 10.5.8 on a 2008 imac with intel core 2 duo and not sure it's going to be beneficial or compatible. Is my desktop really just an external hard drive alreadt in 5 years? I just purchased a mac book pro 2012 and also have a 3Gs iphone I just want to have a happy apple family ; )
Your computer is compatible with all of those OSes, but may need more RAM to run 10.7 or 10.8. As the RAM requirement is the same for both 10.7 and 10.8, don't bother with 10.7 unless you're using software incompatible with 10.8.

Can I combine a PC3200 DDR SDRAM with PC25300 DDR2 SO-DIMM when installing ram? I am taking ram out of an iMac G5 ALS (2005) to add to the 1GB ram (3GB max) iMac late 2006 model.

Yes, there is that small issue but even if they were the same slots you'd just be disappointed a little later. -
Can I upgrade my 2006 iMac 4,1 with Intel Core Duo w/1/5GB memory, 667GHz Bus Speed, 2GHz Processor Speed to the newer OS systems?
I have been told my machine is now "vintage or obsolete" and can't be upgraded to the newest OS software. The maximum OS for that iMac is 10.6.8.

I have a iMac 5.1 running osx 10.6.8 , core 2duo, and 1ghz 667mhz DDR sdram. How much ram can be added and will it run lion/mountain lion? Thanks.
As an additional thought: I had this same model iMac and although you can install 4 GB RAM, it will only address just over 3 GB. Since Lion is somewhat of a memory hog, you really will not be very happy with the performance using anything less than 4 GB - and even 4 GB is a bit of a minimum; fine for basic needs, but any photo or video editing will require more than that.
