Pc games on iMac

Must I install windows ?  I don't need it .  I simply want to be able to try a particular game .  They seem to be pc only .
Is there a recommended emulator or converter ,  to enable pc games on iMac .
What would be the best recommended method to do this ?

best method is bootcamp
virtualmachines don't support 3d features of the video card
emulator of winodws stuff like directx may be a bit tricking to get working and not all games would work there
installing windows is not for everyone
installing windows in bootcamp is even more tricky
there are tons of youtube guides which show you step by step though
but as stated you need to buy windows

  • CAN I USE OLD PS2 CONTROLLER TO PLAY GAMES ON IMAC?

Hi, I really want to dowload the star wars lego game for the imac but realise using th imac keyboard is not the best way to play. i ahve an original ps2 game controller with the square connector bit on the end and wondered if there is an adaptor for this to connect to a new imac 10.7?

Once you have a PSX to USB adapter just get the Joystick Mapper App from the App Store and configure the controller.
For the last part you can use step found here.

  • Streaming games from imac osx10.4 to tv

Bought new imac, love it (09/07). Bought my daughter a couple of imac games for Christmas, any way to stream them to a tv, even by cables? (Games were Diner Dash and Guitar Hero III). Hope you all have a great Holiday Season.

Could'nt I run a Ethernet or firewire or usb cord from the imac to the TV, so that what is on the monitor is seen on the TV? (Not wireless, but would it work?)

no, video data cannot be transmitted to a monitor/tv using ethernet, usb, or firewire. only a vga/dvi cable can be used, and even at that i don't think an imac has an external vga/dvi port anyway.

  • Play Video Games on iMac

Does it work to use a HDMI-DVI cable and then a DVI-MINI DVI cable to plug a PlayStation 3 into my iMac and play it in HD on the iMac screen? If not, is there another way I can do this?

Elgato's EyeTV Hybrid offers game console connection into the iMac (not HD though) but I'd be worried about latency.

  • 7300GT any good for games over imac X1600XT?

    Hi,
I have been waiting for the mac pro and have been using a standard 17" intel imac in the meantime. I have found it great for games like Quake 4, Doom 3 and Call of Duty 2 etc but now that the mac pros are out i intend to buy one. The thing i'd like to know is how will the 2ghz version with the standard 7300gt video card stack up aginst the imac with the standard x1600xt? The frame rates don't look that hot on apples web site but i just need it to play at least as good as the imac. I don't have the cash for any of the upgrade cards.
    Ant thoughts welcome!

I would exactly say that the 7300GT is a slouch. Far from it. What you have to remember is that put up against cards like the ATI X1900 it looks shameful. The 7300GT is a good, cheap, middle performing display card.
Michael Schumacher's F1 Ferarri is a quick little beast. Thing is, put it up against Captain Kirk's Enterprise and it's shamefully slow.

  • Playing PC games on iMac

As a complete newcomer to apple, I'm struggling to load my kids Sims games onto the new computer. Is it possible? Do I need a patch? Or do I need a whole lot of new games just for the mac? Please tell me its not the latter.

If you have an Intel Mac you can set up Bootcamp and run the PC games under the Windows system. I tried VM Fusion but the Windows games, Command & Conquer and Call of Duty, were not playable - even with a 2.8 iMac with 4 GB of ram. I had Vista Ultimate on the Windows partition and ended up putting XP on it since it ran smoother. Finally just rebased the entire system with Leopard and set up Bootcamp with Vista Ultimate. Games play great. I am not aware of any patches or emulators that will allow you to play your PC games directly on a Mac OS.

  • Playing Windows Games on IMac

Hey guys, i'm a complete noob here so bear with me.
I am going to be buying a 20 Inch IMac in the summer or maybe even a 24 inch depending on the answer to the following questions:
Can the 24 inch IMac with the 7300 graphics card play Windows games (Bf2, half life 2, Armed assault) WELL with a certain program and what is the program?
Sorry if i seem arrogant, i have been searching a while to find somewhere for support, if you could answer these 2 questions and provide links that would be great.
I am tired of windows and it's constant failing, help me switch over to Mac.

Right now, Bootcamp burns you a CD with Windows drivers; not all the drivers are suitable for Vista yet, so some devices in your Mac will not work properly if booted into Vista. Consequently, it is recommended that if you use Bootcamp at this time, you should not attempt to install Vista, but rather you should use Windows XP SP2 instead. Presumably, at some future date, drivers that work with Vista will become available.
I don't know if you're understanding that Bootcamp does not run Windows. All it does is create a Windows partition on your hard drive and burn a CD of drivers for Windows. At that point, Bootcamp's work is done.
After that, then you grab your Windows install CD and install Windows on your Mac, just as you would do with any old Dell or Toshiba. Then your Mac can boot into Windows and be just like any other Windows PC.
You really should go to the Bootcamp forum and talk to people who actually have done it.

  • Games on iMac

How do I unistall a game completely from an imac? Please.

It depends on the game. Please tell us which game, or go teh the game developer's web site for instructions.
It will also help us if you edit your profile to give a better idea of your Mac OSX version. Mac OSX version 10.1, currently shown in your profile, cannot run on the iMacs this forum covers. Doing "About the Mac" from your Apple menu will reveal your actual OSX version

  • Card games for iMac G5

I have just purchased a iMac with Intel and am giving my husband my old iMac G5 to take down to his "man cave". It will not be connected to the internet and he would like some games to install on it, preferably card games, that don't require internet access. Is this possible?

  • Where are games for imac

The games are made for ipod or iphone, I didn't see any for imac.

Then you are accessing iTunes, not the Mac App Store.

  • Games for iMac?

I'm looking for some Mac-specific games that run well on an iMac 3.06. In particular, I'd like to get a flight simulator and a few battle games. No WoW or stuff like that.

  • Anyway to Play Video Games on IMac

Just purchased the new Imac and I have a question. There is only one tv in my house and me and my lady friend fights over the tv. Is there a way I can play video games with good quality on the new IMac? I have seen the eyetv, and was wandering will that work. Thanks
    Cliff

You obviously can play Mac games on the Mac...
if you have a console then you can use the eyeTV Wonder USB.

Q: Can I connect my PlayStation/GameCube/XBox to EyeTV Wonder USB 2.0?
A: You can. EyeTV Wonder USB 2.0 has a delay of only few milliseconds, allowing for excellent live gameplay. Other EyeTV devices have encoding hardware that causes a larger delay, rendering gameplay difficult to impossible.

  • Windows games on iMac 2.4 w/bootcamp

Does anyone have any information about the following running under Windows XP/VISTA under bootcamp on a new iMac 2.4?
    2Moons
    Guild Wars
    WOW

I had posted this question for a friend who is considering a switch. I'm a long time Mac user myself but he is hesitant. I see lots of views but no posts to my questions. Is it really true then that you wouldn't want to consider a Mac as a game machine even now with the Intel chipsets? If he really wants to be able to play these games then should he stick with a strictly windows only platform?
