Pc ipod needs to be mac friendly

I used to have my ipod on a PC. Now I have a MAC that I want to transfer my tunes to and use instead of my PC.
How do I do so without losing all my songs and playlists? I used to use copypod on PCs - any advice for MACs?
Is there anything else I need to do to make my ipod MAC compatible since it has always been hooked to PCs in the past?

Macs can read Windows formatted iPods so you should be able to plug it into the Mac and get your stuff off it...

  • Mac Friendly ADSL Modem

    Hi folks.
I need a real Mac-friendly ADSL modem. I want to buy one, not rent. I can't seem to find any.
I don't need it to be a router as I have a professional router. I just want a modem that I can bridge to have my router do authentication.
    Can anybody recommend one?
    Cheers

  • Trying to upgrade my kids iPod 10.6.3 since error msg shows that iPod needs 10.6.3 to work. But it won't show up in my iTunes when I plug in to my laptap. NOT on a MAC

    Hello,
I cannot see my son's iPod now when I plug it in to my laptop. It gives error message saying  that iPod needs upgraded 10.6.3 to work.
We cannot update  iPod to 10.6.3 for some reason. But what is really strange is that it won't even show up when we plug it in to try to update! I do not have a MAC please don't say that's the problem haha, i have an older laptop with Windows running, maybe Windows 2000, not sure (how would I find out what is installed on the comupter?)  My ipod works fine and so do our other 2. It's just his iPod? I have an older 64g touch, but his siblings all have the same 4th generation, bought at the same time from the same store.
    Any ideas or suggestions?

You need at least XP with service pack 3. Go to Control Panel>Performance and Maintenance (for XP)>System,
What does the screen for the computer show when it is starting up?

  • My Ipod is formatted for Mac, but I need to download audiobook from Windows

My Ipod is formatted for my Mac, and my entire library is in it. However, I need to download a audiobook from my library , and when I connect my Ipod to my Windows PC, it is telling me that I need to restore it , which means that I will
loose what I already have on it.

      Mac OS X (10.4.9)

If your iPod is formatted for Mac it won't run natively on a PC because the Windows OS does not support the HFS Plus file system and therefore will not see the drive. There are third party programs that will allow you to use a Mac formatted iPod on Windows. XPlay and MacDrive for instance get good reviews. XPlay is an iPod specific program, MacDrive is more general and lets you access various types of Mac formatted drives on Windows such as CDs, DVDs, hard drives etc:

  • Need help moving iPod library to new Mac Mini

The bad news is that my 4 year old Mirror Door Dual Processor PowerMacG4 finally gave up the ghost on me. The good news is that I then went out and bought a shinny new Mac Mini. Thinking it would be easy (what was I thinking) I then attached my iPod 2Gen 15GB to my new iTunes and it promptly wiped it clean for me (read as PANIC, as I have literally thousands of dollars invested in iTunes music). Not to be a snob, but I also own a iPod Mini (4 GB) that also had a copy of the library on it.
HOW do I copy the library to my new Mac?? I also have a Mac Powerbook 12" and it has a dated copy of the library on it...
Is there ANYTHING that is easy with these Mac's??

  • PC FORMATTED iPod read by MAC & PC?  MAC formatted iPod read only by MAC?

Is this how the formatting issue works? I'm looking to buy an iPod for a friend who (I think) has PC.....
Since I'm a mac person, I want to buy the gift, load some music on, and ship it off to the lucky recipient....but if they have a PC , will it be recongnized once it's plugged in?
    Any info would be helpful.
    Thanks.

PC FORMATTED iPod read by MAC & PC? MAC formatted iPod read only by MAC? Is this how the formatting issue works?
Yes, that is how it works.
Since I'm a mac person, I want to buy the gift, load some music on, and ship it off to the lucky recipient....but if they have a PC , will it be recongnized once it's plugged in?
Okay, unless you restore your iPod while you're on the Mac, I believe it will still be formatted for a PC.
(You will not need to restore the iPod for transferring music to it on a Mac unless you want to upgrade the iPod's firmware on a Mac computer, then it will have to be Mac-formatted).
You see, when you recieve an iPod, it is shipped to you as a Windows-formatted iPod, probably since the majority of the population has PCs, and also, PC-formatted iPods are compatible for music transfer for a Mac also.
    Does that make sense?
EDIT: Zevoneer has already answered your question, so you can ignore all of my post if you wish.

  • Moving ipod from PC to MAC

    Hi
Using back up CDs I moved my itunes library from my old Windows pc to my new mac about a year ago and have been syncing the itunes library on the Mac with my new iphone since then. I've also added plenty of new songs to itunes on the Mac.
I would now like to get my dusty old 5th Gen ipod also to work on the new mac and to use the updated itunes library. (I've only ever used this ipod on the old Windows PC).
Am I right in thinking that I need to restore the ipod to factory condition by connecting it to the Windows PC before I then connect it to the Mac and sync it with the updated itunes library?
Or can I just connect it straight to the Mac, restore it there and then sync with the Mac's itunes?
Before I tackle this I'd like some advice please!
    Thanks very much.

If it is still Windows formatted, then your iPod wasn't restored as that would've changed it to Mac format.
However, you don't necessarily have to reformat the iPod because a Windows iPod will work just fine on a Mac running OS X. Many folks leave it like that for the convenience of being able to use the iPod on both a Mac and a Windows machine, and I left my new Classic Windows formatted for months before I eventually reformatted.
The one downside is that you won't be able to update the iPod software if you leave it Windows formatted unless you do it on a Windows PC. So, if you want to update and you only have access to a Mac, you'll need to reformat it.

  • Want to use an iPod photo configurated for Mac on a PC

I want to use my old iPod photo (configurated for Mac) on a PC (but do not need to keep my songs and photos). Is this possible? If so, what do I do?
    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   iPod 5th generation 60 GB

If your iPod is formatted for Mac it won't run natively on a PC because the Windows OS does not support the HFS Plus file system and therefore will not see the drive. Macs can read Windows drives so you could restore and format the iPod on a PC, this would also mean any future software updates would have to be done on Windows. This will erase your drive so you need to have your songs and photos backed up. Alternatively there are third party programs that will allow you to use a Mac formatted iPod on Windows, this is one for instance gets good reviews and has the functionality to let you copy content from the iPod to the PC. Not sure if it does photos but have a look: XPlay 2

  • Can I use my Ipod 5th Genereration with Mac and XP at the same time?

I have a 5th generation. My home system is a Mac my work is an XP. I have all of my music on my home MAc. I want to bring those over and use in the XP environment. Does anyone know if that can be done? When I connected my ipod into the USB on my XP it asked for me to download the software. If I do that will it mess up my Mac interface?? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
ipod video (5th Generation)   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

First, please understand that an iPod formatted on a PC (FAT32), will be able to be read by a PC and Mac. But not the other way round. You have 2 options to do it:-
    1. Do a Restore of your iPod on your PC (you need to install the iTunes and iPod updates on your PC), (it will erase all data on your iPod). Once it has been completed, connect it with your Mac and do an update between the iTunes on your Mac with the iPod. After that please install the 3rd party software e.g. YamiPod on you PC, and use this software
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=464031&tstart=0
Copy all the music on your iPod to your iTunes on your PC
    2. Download and install a 3rd party software xplay2
(which is not free)on your PC, then it will manage to read your Mac's iPod

  • My mac will restart & show Blue Screen when plugged ipod classic into my mac

When i plugged ipod into my mac and i put to the Disk Mode my ipod , the computer will restart & don't let me to restore my ipod !!!! Please help and give me a solution !!!
My ipod & mac info :
    iPod Classic 160gb (2009)
    Mac Book Pro (2011)
    iTunes 11.1.3

If your computer is  a 2011, you can stop the blue screen by turning off graphic card switching.  Under apple, system preferences, energy, uncheck box.  Temporary fix.  Your logic board may need to be replaced if you are under warranty or have apple care otherwise $1000.00.  May be software or firmware problem but apple has provided no info.  Replacing logic board has corrected problem for some users and not others.  Everything I've mentioned only applies to 2011 MBPs.

  • How Do I transfer music from my ipod to a new Mac?

Hi... i just got a new Mac Book Pro and I want to transfer my music on my ipod to it? Its the only place i have my music stored currently so I want to make sure I do it correctly. If I sync it will the library on the mac take precendence and wipe the music from the ipod? How do I do this?
    Thanx
    Steve

*Do not* sync your iPod with the empty iTunes on the Mac or you'll lose everything that's on it.
1). Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to sync automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod.
2). When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you continue to use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod and iPhone
3). Once you are connected and your iPod is safely in manual mode there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. iTunes will only let you copy your iTunes Store purchases directly from an iPod to the computer, you'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
For everything else (music from CDs, other downloads and including iTunes purchases) there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. I use Senuti but have a look at the web pages and documentation for the others too. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here (you'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos and games as well):
Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    Comparison of iPod managers
A selection of iPod to iTunes utilities:
Senuti Mac Only (iPod Touch & iPhone compatible)
expod Mac Only (iPod Touch & iPhone compatible)
    PodView Mac Only
    PodWorks Mac Only
TuneAid Mac only (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
    YamiPod Mac & Windows
iPod Music Liberator Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPodRip Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Music Liberator Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iGadget Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
    Floola Mac & Windows
Music Rescue Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Access Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
TouchCopy Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
4). Keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync.
5). I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay: Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive

  • IPod recognized by one Mac but not another

I have a fourth-generation iPod. My home computer, which has stopped recognizing my iPod, is a PowerPC G4 running 10.4.11. My work computer, which does recognize the iPod, is a 20-inch iMac (whose specs I don't recall). All software is up to date on both Macs, and I've tried resetting my iPod as well as putting it into Disk Mode to try to fix the problem at home. No dice.
The only thing I can think of that might have affected it is my recent problem with my home Mac's sleep function -- that being, simply, that my Mac doesn't go to sleep when I select it from the pull-down menu.
Could I have affected the iPod by putting my Mac to sleep while it was attached? I've done it many times before without any problems. Or, is there an improper way to wake up the Mac while it is sleeping? Could the iPod be thinking that my Mac is still asleep?
I've also noticed that my home Mac takes longer to boot up and shut down since these problems (iPod, sleep function) developed.
But, again, the iPod works fine with my work Mac.
Needless to say, I am flummoxed. Thanks much for any insight!

Do you use FireWire or USB to connect the iPod?
If USB, try disconnecting ALL of your peripheral devices including any hubs, except for a standard keyboard and mouse. Try the iPod connected directly to the Mac's USB port. Be sure to try more than one port.
If FireWire, make sure it is connected directly to the Mac's port instead of daisy chained to an external drive or connected to a FireWire hub. Try it on more than one port, since it is possible the port has become faulty. If you have another FireWire device, use it to make sure the port is OK.
If the Mac itself is running oddly, you need to start up from your Mac OS X installation disc (for the OS version you are using), and run Disk Utility from Installer's menu. Then run +Repair Disk+. If that completes with no errors or errors that are repaired, restart normally. Then run Disk Utility and use +Repair Disk Permissions+. Hopefully, those actions will fix the Mac.

  • Sync iPod 2G notes with mac?

I have a new Macbook, and I often take notes on my old iPod 2G. So I tried to find a way to sync my iPod notes with my Mac notes application.
But there is no function for this in iTunes and I heard that you can only sync with the Mac notes app with iClud. The problem is, tht my iPod is not iCloud compatible, any ideas?
    Pls help me

It is Mac OS 10.8.3 and of course I read the information provided by Apple. Unfortunately, Apple has forgotten their users with older devices. The information provided are not applicable for iOS 4.2.1. There aren't any switches to activate note syncing. What now? I urgently need my notes and emailing is not the solution.
