PC iPod, updated via Mac question

I will soon be getting a Mac, and will be connecting my iPod Photo to it.
I also use my iPod to connect to my Xbox 360 to play my music through my home entertainment system.
Will the Mac iPod Updater want to reformat the iPod or make any alteration to the filesystem (or whatever) which would render the iPod unreadable by my Xbox?

A Mac can read a Windows formatted iPod so you should have no issue unless you ever needed to do a restore in which case to preserve the formatting, it would have to be done on a PC. One thing you do need to be aware of is that you need to move your iTunes library prior to connecting your iPod or to set your iPod for manual update to ensure it's not accidentally erased connecting to an empty iTunes: Using iPod with Multiple computers

  • Classic ipod update/transfer/compatibility questions

I have a classic ipod (old) that has a cracked screen, and does not hold a charge well.  I have itunes downloaded on my pc (also old).  I'm looking to upgrade everything at once.  My questions are:
If the songs on my current ipod are windows compatible, do I need to purchase a pc again, or can I purchase an ipad or mac and have the songs play without having to repurchase my whole music catalog?
If I can have the "windows" music play on a new apple product do I have to use my ipod as a hard disk to transfer the music, since classic is not icloud enabled?  If not, what would be involved with the "switch-over"?
If my current windows compatible music won't play on a new apple product, will an ipod touch be compatible with the new windows version?  At my local apple store, it said XP, Vista and 7, not ME.
    Thanks.

I believe iTunes version 7.x will support the 3rd gen iPod. That's what I had before I had to upgrade to a new iPod. Version 2.2. was the last firmware update for those iPods.

  • HT4929 I have 2nd generation I-pod which does not meet requirements for ICloud.  However, I was told that after I moved to ICloud if I connected my iPod to my Mac via the USB connection that my calendar and contacts would sync, but this didn't happen.

I have a 2nd generation Ipod and just moved to Icloud.  I had been told my an Apple tech that although my contacts and calendar would not sync automatically I could connect the Ipod to my Mac via the USB port and ITunes would sync the calendar.  Now I find that this is not happening.  I am not happy that I will have to enter/edit calendar and contact info on two devices.  Is there something I can do to fix this problem?  Thanks.

one more detail, after a restore, when I attempt to reload music to the ipod, if I try and move, say, 20 files, the transfer seems to work as it should but then stalls on the last file.  Eventually, the status will change to "Updates Files on (my ipod)" a and suggests the iPod is syncing  even though I have the auto sync feature turned off.
This process eventually works itself out, and seems to take longer relative to the number of files I attempt to transfer.   Once done, howver, if I try and eject and dismount the iPod, iTunes stalls with the spinning pinwheel and I am warned that the iPod is syncing again with the spinning candy cane status bar.     Eventually thisd works itself out and the iPod dismounts from iTunes and the desktop and eventually the iPod is free to disconnect.
Then if I try and play the music I just transfered, the iPod says there is no music loaded.
    Ideas?

  • Switched from a PC to a Mac, now iPod updater won't update!

Anyone out there had a similar problem? I switched from a Sony Vaio PC which is what I used for my iPod Mini originally until I switched to a MacBook Pro. I was able to use Senuti softare to transfer my music from the Sony iTunes via the iPod then to the MacBook Pro iTunes. However, iPod updater refuses to update the iPod because of the Windows format originally used on the iPod. Restoring the iPod will only take it back to Windows format without any songs. How do I format the iPod for Mac from here on? I will NEVER go back to Windows! Thanks for anyone that can help.

If you use the Mac version of the software to restore your iPod, it will be formatted for your Mac. Download the latest software for your iPod, connect it, and run the updater. Choose Restore and once it's done you should be good to go.

  • IPod format WIN vs. MAC Question

I know for sure that an iPod formatted with Windows can be used on a Mac to add songs to it. It just can't be updated on the Mac.
I am wondering if an iPod formatted on a Mac would be compatible with Windows to add songs (just not receive updates).
This is because, as some users have reported, the version 1.1.2 upgrade killed my iPod, though I am able to use it in disk mode and backed everything up from it. I heard that upgrading to version 1.1.2 on a Mac works without any problems.
So my question is: Would it be benificial to restore my iPod on a Mac for version 1.1.2, then use Windows to manage it every time after that?
If the answer is no, then I will just restore it in Windows using version 1.0.3, and hope that it will work.

I am wondering if an iPod formatted on a Mac would be compatible with Windows to add songs (just not receive updates).
Not unless software such as XPlay is installed on the PC.

  • 1st gen iPod Touch with iOS 3.1.3 - update via wi-fi?

That's basically it.  I found my old 1st gen iPod Touch and wanted to update the iOS, but I am away from my computer with iTunes.
    I do have wi-fi though.
I tried via Settings->General->Update.  But it doesn't have an update option in settings.
    Anyone?

A 1G iPod Touch can not be updated past iOS 3.1.3.  Only the 3G and 4G iPod touch models can run iOS 5 or later, which added in the ability to update via the Settings app.

  • Aperture 3.1.2 no more stores imported pictures in projects. Downloded Update 3.2.2 cannot be opended. Actualisations only via Mac App Store. Is there a way via Internet-Download?

Aperture 3.1.2 no more stores imported pictures in projects. Downloded Update 3.2.2 cannot be opended. Actualisations only via Mac App Store. Is there a way via Internet-Download?

In the Window 'About Aperture' is below the Version: a No: 1530000.1
Are you looking in the "About" panel of your old Aperture installation or the Trial? The old version will show the licence number, if it has one. After installing a different version this chance is gone.
I bought Aperture 3.1.2 on March 2011 in the internet App Store.
If you bought from the App Store and not the Apple Store, your Aperture version has no serial number. Are you sure, you did not buy from the Apple Store? Then you should have received a serial number by email.
Can you give me a serial No
No, sorry I cannot. The serial number is bought with Aperture and only licenced to the person who bought it.

  • Updating a Windows Ipod on a Mac?

Can I use my mac to update a windows ipod? The ipod needs a system update.

I have an Ipod for windows. Can I play my ipod on a Mac? Would the Mac/Itunes ask me to update my ipod to Mac? If I do that, can I format my ipod to mac and later reverse to window without problems? I have to Dj for a friend's party and he has a mac laptop wired to the whole sound system. Of all the options, hooking up my window/ipod to his mac is the easiest solution ..is that possible?

  • Trying to update from Mac OSX 10.7.2 to 10.7.4 via the Updater.  Update Not Verified?

Trying to update from Mac OSX 10.7.2 to 10.7.4 via the Updater.   Getting a message half way through the download stating the updated "could not be verified.  It may have been corrupted during downloading."   Any ideas for picking up the latest Update?
    Uploading screenshot....     any advice appreciated.
    Matt

Either try redownloading or try downloading the standalone updater: OS X Lion Update 10.7.4 (Client Combo).
Such errors may be caused by glitches in your Internet connection or because of hard drive problems. I suggest you try the following:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions - Lion
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.

  • IPod recognized on Mac computer but won't update!!! HELP!

I recently changed my computer from a Windows to a Macbook, and when I plug in my ipod it recognizes it on ITunes, and it comes up and everything, but then when I click "Update songs on Sarah's ipod" it doesn't do anything! What do I do??

There are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod, this is just a selection. Have a look at the web pages and documentation for these, they are generally quite straightforward. I use Senuti but check the others out and choose whichever you are happy with. Once you have the missing files in iTunes you could restore your iPod on the Mac which will reformat it with the Mac file system and update from your reloaded library.

  • Updating a PC iPod on a Mac

I just switched from a PC to a mac and now need to update the software to make it work with iTunes 5. However, it won't let me because the iPod was originally used on a PC. Is there a way to fix the problem?

Wendy, do you still want to use your iPod on the PC after you update it? If you update it on the Mac, you won't be able to use it again on the PC without special software.
If you want to continue using it on both the Mac and the PC, you could update it using the PC. Download and install the updater from the link below and run it. Connect your iPod only when it tells you to and choose the Update option.

If you not longer want to use your iPod on the PC, just restore it on your Mac as J. Martin said.

  • Windows formatted iPod on a Mac - how to update?

I am new to Mac (finally). I have a Windows formatted iPod (video). Therefore my iPod update button is grayed out. Is there a way to reformat my iPod to Mac? If no, what problems will this cause down the road?
    Macbook   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

To reformat your iPod for Mac, you need to Restore it on the Mac. (This will erase it entirely.)
You cannot do a software update on a Windows formatted iPod from the Mac, which is why the Update button is greyed out.

  • IPOD Updater Question

My Nano is not working, getting the file folder with exclamation point screen. Have tried all the quick fixes and I've been told I need the IPOD Updater software 1/10/06 and the latest version of ITunes (6.02??). On the download site are two different versions of the IPod Updater. A 27MB file and a 45MB file. Which is the right one? Also, can't location the 6.02 or latest version of ITunes. Need some help. Thanks.
