PC NEWBIE-Connecting PC iPOD to Mac

I'm a mac person and know little about PC's. My cousin is coming over today and wants help with her new iPod which is formatted PC. When she was here last, we tried hooking her iPod up to my mac, and there were problems. First it wouldn't sync. Then when it finally did, her iPod showed up in iTunes but all the music was grayed out. Also, her iPod switched back to play mode (meaning it no longer read "do not disconnect." Disconnected it and reconnected it and the same thing happened.
Can anyone help us figure this out? Do we need to do something to her iPod for my mac to recognize it?

"Then when it finally did, her iPod showed up in iTunes but all the music was grayed out"
Grey text when you look at the content and lock symbol at the bottom of the screen simply shows that your iPod is set to "automatically update songs and playlists". . If you want to access your iPod directly, play it through your iTunes, connect it to a second computer etc. you just need to change the update method to "Manually manage songs and Playlists" in the iPod preferences. For more detail see this tutorial: Managing Your Songs Manually
"Also, her iPod switched back to play mode (meaning it no longer read "do not disconnect.)
That's normal in automatic mode, it automatically disconnects when it's finished updating. When this is changed to manual or the iPod is enabled as a removable hard drive the "Do Not Disconnect" will message will remain until you manually eject. Safely disconnect iPod

  • HT1335 Connecting PC Ipod and Mac Ipod to MacBook Air.

    Hi,
I need to clarify a few points. I think I signed off too quickly! The 'how to determine your iPods hard disc format' does not read the same on my two IPODS, and the Mac one,
does not read as per "support.apple.com/kb/HT1335 states?
In the SETTINGS, 'about' for the Pc iPod, it states, Format windows, as the last item, which read as described.
However, my mac iPod reads (last there items) = Serial number, Model and finally Version? So, the serial number is not the last item, what does this mean?
    Regards,

  • Im just curiious about connecting a ipod to mac and windows

hi guys i have a windows and a mac comp and im just curious if i format (restore) my ipod on my windows will it ALSO read and do everything it should on a mac? thanks guys!

I'm not sure about "everything it should", but a PC-formatted iPod is readable by the Mac (Mac-formatted iPods aren't readable by PCs).

    Hello...
I'm trying to connect my ipod touch with my mac book pro and for some reason the ipod is not paired, it is conected and the mac is finding the ipod but not pairing it
The arror i get at my ipod is:
Make sure "maci" (my mac name) is turned on, in range, and is ready to pair.
What do I need to do to make it work?
    Tanx

This is not feature of the ipod touch.  You cannot connect to a computer or another phone or device.
It is for stereo headsets/speakers and some peer-to-peer apps from the app store.

How do I sync my music onto an old iPod when my music is located on iTunes match? I have connected the iPod to my mac but it indicates no music to sink (as my music is stored in the cloud). I assume there is a simple way to resolve without downloading all music onto my mac as this would be ridiculous?
Any halp with this would be excellant.
    Thanks :P

    Hi,
Your old pod can only sync with music that is physically in your itunes library and on your hard drive. Therefore there is simple way to resolve is to download your music to your hard drive.

  • My mac Pro can't boot OS X, if it connected  with iPod video

Hi All~ I have received the new Mac Pro, but I don't know why..... if
my iPod video(60G) had connected with USB ports of Mac Pro, then I can't
boot my OS system.... that seems the Mac Pro can't reach my hard
disk, because the apple log doesn't appear (nothing on the screen)
and everything is blocked, however when I put out the iPod, the Mac
would go into the system smoothly, I don't know why. there is no
problem with my powerbook or iMac G4 as the same situation to boot
the OS system. Is a new rule to start the system with Intel CPU?
Can anyone tell me what happen with my Mac Pro, does it have something wrong? Thanx
    Reeeeegards,

    Hi everybody!
I´ve a similar problem. However, in my case it´s not when I boot Mac OS X but when I boot into bootcamp with Windows XP. It takes a loooooooong time for the Mac to start the booting when my 80gig ipod is connected to the USB-port . Maybe you also have just to wait longer?
If I disconnect the ipod during this waiting period from the USB-port, the Mac starts booting immediatelly! Fortunatelly I´ve no problem when directly booting into Mac OS X.
Direct connection or connection via self-powered USB-hub, disk-mode or no disk-mode, ipod formated in Mac or Windows format, I tried everything, but it all made no difference. Any advice to solve the problem would be very wellcome.
By the way, I´ve another ipod connected via firewire, this is not causing any boot-trouble.

  • My Iphone and Ipad wouldn't appear in itunes when i connect them to my mac. I have already upgraded my itunes to the latest version. I have no problem synching my ipod though. Could it be because I am using an older mac? (Mac OS X version 10.4.11)?

Neither my iphone nor my ipad would appear in itunes when i connect them to my mac. I have already upgraded my itunes to the latest version. I have no problem synching my ipod to itunes using the same mac though. Could it be because I am using an older mac? (Mac OS X version 10.4.11)?

You need to be using a Mac OS X version at least as new as the one given in the device's original system requirements.

  • Help!  Bought an IPod from a PC user, now I can't connect it to my Mac!

I bnought an IPod from a friend who was using it with a PC. I erased all of it's memory and then restored it using the IPod updater software I got from apple.com. Now, I can't connect it to my Mac, and the IPod screen goes from the "apple" display, to the unsmiling Mac man on a file folder. None of the suggestions on the Apple support page seem to work, any suggestions?

Put it in Disk Mode, connect it with your Mac again, open the disk utility and you will able to see your iPod icon there, hightlight it, and go to tab "Erase" and do a erase (format in Mac OS externded (Journaled)). Once it has been completed, do a eject and reset your iPod. Open the iPod Updater and plug your iPod back with your Mac, and click Restore.

  • Connecting my iPod to my mac. firewire or usb, or both???

my new iPod came with a usb connector. my older iPod (3 years ago) came with a firewire connector. i still have the old connector. can i connect using either my new usb or older firewire connector? which is better? is there any difference? why didnt apple ask me if i was a mac or pc user when i ordered it, so they could send me a firewire connector instead of the usb connector that they did send?
usb or firewire? does it make any difference? firewire must be faster right?
    thanks for your help

    sync? what do you mean?
Sync means to connect the iPod to the computer and load songs onto it.
It will update/sync only with USB.

  • Changing Ipod connection fom Windows to Mac.

I am trying to change over my Ipod to update from my Mac instead of my PC.
Have downloaded the Ipod updater using software update my Mac so presumably it is the correct format (ie not Windows)
Followed the steps advised in previous related topics, ie run updater, plug in Ipod when prompted etc but I get a message that advises that the I have inserted a disk containg no volumes that MACOSX can read. There are 3 options in this window. Eject, Ignore or Initialize. I have tried all 3 options with no luck. When i click on ignore it goes back to the updater window. This shows the software version, the serial number but under Format- Unknown.
When I then click on restore it goes through the "motions" looking like it is restoring but then comes up with and error message saying there was an error formatting the Ipod.
If I choose Initilize the Disk Utility launches, sometimes showing the Ipod and other times not
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Hello,
Try to connect your iPod with your Mac (put it in Disk Mode), open the disk utility, if you can see it there (please try few attempts) go to Tab "Partition" and click "Parition". Once it has been done, eject your iPod and do a Reset, then plug your iPod with your Mac and open the iPod updater and click Restore.
