PC Not Recognizing the iPod's USB device

I installed a new copy of Windows recently, and now when I connect my iPod to any USB port (doesn't seem to matter which) my PC will often not recognize it. It takes me to take the iPod out and put it back in for it to know that it's there. I believe this is why my iPod refuses to update its song list properly. It will put 15 songs on it and then stop. If I disconnect and reconnect it, it will just put the same songs on it and stop again. I recently took my iPod in to an Apple store to have it looked at because I couldn't even restore it because it seemed like it was corrupted. Now I believe it really never was. It's like I need to have a driver for the USB port device and the software disk that came with the iPod doesn't contain one. But I honestly don't know. What do I do?

Sorry. I gave you misinformation. My PC runs windows 98 SE. I downloaded the drivers and the firmware
from the Creative web site. Installed the drivers. I inserted the built -in USB Connector of MUVO TX USB flash dri've while pressing the player button. I executed the firmware and the animated flash light turned on but after 2 minutes, the response was no removable dri've is detected. I will make several more attempts before I give up.

  • ITunes is not recognizing my ipod as a device but my computer is, help?!

I have started/restarted the iPod, stopped and restarted the iPod Service, restarted iTunes, restarted my computer, uninstalled/reinstalled iTunes, AND tried different USB ports on  my computer (my computer recognizes the iPod from each port, iTunes does recognize the iPod at all)

Device not detected in iTunes for Windows

  • Windows is not recognizing the ipod

I plugged my Ipod into a friends computer to charge. After which the Ipod gave me the "Do not Disconnect" sign for about an hour. Now, when I plug the ipod back into my computer it does not recognize the Ipod. I have a feeling that it needs to be restored but that cannot happen until the Ipod is recognized as there by the computer. I've tried setting it to disk mode, with no result.
My friend has a video ipod with the latest update software (if that matters) and we are both running Windows XP.
Thanks in advance for your help.

  • My daughters ipod touch is disabled because of a wrong passcode.  I have tried many times to log onto to Itunes and it will not help without a passcode and is not recognizing the itouch as a device, but the USB is functional.  Do I need Itunes to fix this

My daughters ipod touch has been disabled because of a wrong passcode.  After 2 days of trying to get into Itunes, it will not help without a passcode and is not recognizing it as a device even though the computer is recognizing the USB.  I know I have to do a complete recovery, but can I do this without Itunes (or Icloud)?

You cannot do this without itunes on your computer

  • Computer not recognizing the ipod.

I have plugged my ipod into 4 different usb ports and nothing will happen.

Why don't you try this, use a USB drive to copy over
your iPod updater to another computer and then just
connect to that computer and see if it's recognized,
if that dosent work try connecting it using firewire
    if you can
I am having the same problem. i only have one computer and my connection worket just fine until now. i can hear that my usb connects to the compurer by that click sound, but it wont recognize.is that possible that i disabled something on my computer so the removable devices option wont pop up when i connect?

  • MacPro not recognizing the standard Apple USB keyboard after wake-up

My Mac Pro 2*2.66GHz ystem with 5GB RAM suddenly won't recognize my keyboard or mouse (the standard Apple optical mouse is totally dead and unpowered) when it wakes up from a sleep mode. If I reboot things work perfectly but every time I re-enter sleep mode the same problem arises.
The keyboard and mouse are the standard USB ones that came with the system and worked up until a few days ago. The mouse is plugged in to the keyboard which is plugged in to the USB port on the back of the Apple Cinema display when this happens.
To fix the problem I can take the locked up keyboard and mouse, unplug it and re-plug it directly to the USB port on the front of the MacPro. I can also reboot the system and everything works great.
Anyone have any ideas?? Many thanks!!
    Mac Pro 2*2.66GHz, 5GB RAM   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I've always felt it wisest to connect a keyboard directly to the computer (even it requires an extension or two).
While I in principle agree with you it's not always that simple. There are many of us who find haivng 3 USB ports on the back (4-6 would be nicer) somewhat deficient. Additionally, in my case I use display as a KVM so it's far more convenient to have it plugged into the display.

  • WIndows not recognizing my ipod shuffle ?!?

I've downloaded itunes, tried researching and troubleshooting til I'm blue! I plug in the ipod and the only thing my device manager shows is USB mass storage device. By the way, my ipod did NOT come with an installation disc. And yes it's fully charged. The orange lights up while charging and when I plug in the ear pods the blue light stays lit.
iTunes is not recognizing the ipod either (as my friend said it should)
I even installed itunes on a friends' computer and had the same problem. I just got this for my son for Christmas and needless to say he's a bit disappointed.

  • My computer is not recognizing my IPod...how can I help this?  I have an IPod Classic from 2006, I think.

I have connected my IPod via the USB port, and even my computer is not recognizing the IPod.  How can I help this?  I have just downloaded an audiobook and now I'd like to downloading it to my IPod.

Uninstall iTunes and all of its components by following this guide: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925, then reinstall iTunes.  This will not trouch your iTunes library or data.

  • USB is not recognizing the device and giving error 10

My PC USB is not recognizing the device (iphone) and giving error 10.. The USb is malfunctioning but ipod is getting connected easliy

Try DFU Mode Restore. Open iTunes on computer. Connect iPhone to computer with USB cable. Hold both Home and Power button, after exactly 10 seconds release the Power Button, keep holding the Home button until iTunes recognizes iPhone in Recovery Mode, usually about 20 seconds time. If the iPhone screen is black, blank this is DFU Mode. Click the Restore button of iTunes.

  • HT1567 My computer is not recognizing my iPod NanoPod - therefore the 'Devices' is not showing up on the Left side in order to sync Playlists to my Nano Pod?  What can I do about this please?

    Hi
My computer is not recognizing my iPod NanoPod - and as a result 'The Devices' section is not showing up in order to sync new Playlists to my Nano-Pod.  Any suggestions?
    Thank you.

What have you tried so far in terms of troubleshooting this issue?  Are you plugging the iPod into a high powered USB 2.0 port on the back of your PC? Have you tried a different USB cable?
What happens if you try to reset the device with it still connected to the PC?

Has this iPod ever worked on this PC or is this the first time you have time you have tried connecting it?
Have you carefully worked through each and every single suggestion in this Apple support document?

  • Windows but not iTunes is recognizing the iPod

My friend has a 20 GB iPod (Gen. 4) and whenever he connects it to his Toshiba Satellite (running Windows XP and purchased in Taiwan) the computer pops up with a window asking if he wants to have the device open in Real Player, Windows Media Player, or Do Nothing.
The iPod says Do Not Disconnect for a while and then that disappears and it goes to the main menu showing no signs of being connected. During this time, iTunes does not detect the iPod at all.
I then opened My Computer and the drive is listed there (the icon was actually an image of a generic mp3 player for a while and now it is a regular removable drive).
I open that drive and there are no folders listed at all (this is after the iPod has gone back to its main menu) and I can't access the music folders even when I say to show hidden folders and files. I tried everything in Apple's help files online before coming here.
The odd thing is that I have an iPod mini, have had no problems connecting with my Dell Inspiron 9300 and for the **** of it I connected his iPod to my computer and it worked perfectly.
The iPod was quickly recognized by my iTunes and I could see all the music on his iPod. I have the same version of iTunes and iPod updater as him too.
This leads me to believe that the problem is with either iTunes on his Toshiba, the Toshiba itself, or his Chinese Language version of Windows XP. Please help!!!

Not to encroach on Mike's territory but both of these programs have device control in their Options settings, particularly Windows Media Player. It's likely that both are set to open automatically when any MP3 player is connected to the computer. You might be able to disable the function there.

itunes is not recognizing my ipod.  there is no sync under file.  I need to download the music just purchased from itunes.
    can anyone help?

Do you see your iPod under Devices on the left side of the iTunes window in the source list when it's connect to your Mac?
BTW...  you sync iTunes media from the tabs in the iTunes menu, not from the File menu unless you are transferring iTunes purchases from the iPod to your Mac.
Might need to zoom to see this graphic. I have "Music" selected as an example.
