PC photos to iMac IPhoto

Returning to Mac from PC. Last used Mac in 1992. Much changed and bou is it lovely, but...
Copied my PC photos to a folder on iMac via network connection to PC. Then imported photos (9K+ photos) to iPhoto. Proceeded to merge, edit, organize, etc. Completed work. Set my screen saver to "Photos" and all went well until I shut down my PC. Now the screen saver cannot find the photos. "MY Pictures" folder from PC appears on the desktop while PC is on and disappears when PC turned off. I am assuming from what I read that I only "referenced" the photos on import rather than un-clicking something on import and having a "true" copy.
Is there a way to re-import in such a way as to not lose the editing, organizing, deleting etc. or must I empty my iPhoto Library and import all 9K photos again and do all the editing again?
Thanks.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
The first thing to do is to confirm this is the case.
Go to iPhoto Menu -> Preferences -> Advanced and see if 'Copy Files to the iPhoto Library on Import' is unchecked.
If it is, make sure it's checked from this point out.
Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and right click on it. From the resulting menu select 'Show File (or 'Show Original File' if that's available). A Finder Window should open with the file selected. Does it? Where is the file?
When you run a referenced Library iPhoto creates an Alias in the Originals folder (within the iPhoto Library) to the actual file. What you need to do is replace that alias with the actual file.
This thread has some suggestions, including a reference to an app called AliasHerder.

  • Is it possible to look a photos from iMac/iPhoto (or Time Capsule)) with iPad?

    Hi,
I have all my photos in iMac/iPhoto. I have also a back up available in Time Capsule.
Apple TV device is also available and connected to videoprojector.
I want to look my photos with a iPad? How to to that?
And is it possible to get those viewed from a Time Capsule -> Apple TV -> videoprojector?
    Thanks

Using that system, no it's not possible to edit a pic from the shared library and have the edit reflected on the min library. That sharing is intended for viewing only, and the shared library cannot be altered in any way by the client.
If you want the other machine to have the same access to the library as you: to be able to add, edit, organise, keyword etc. then:
    Quit iPhoto on both machines
Move the iPhoto Library Folder to an external HD set to ignore permissions. You could also use a dmg.
(Some people have had success putting the library in the Users/ Shared folder. If you do this make sure the file permissions are set to allow read/write access to everyone.)
On each machine in turn: Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting dialogue, select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new library location. From that point on, this will be the default library location. Both machines will have full access to the library, in fact, both machines will 'own' it.
However, there is a catch with this system and it is a significant one. iPhoto is not a multi-user app., it does not have the code to negotiate two users simultaneously writing to the database, and trying will cause db corruption. So only one user at a time, and back up, back up back up.

  • How to share iPad Photos and iMac iPhoto via network?

I've recently added an iPad 2 to my Apple system.  Can anyone tell me how to access my iMac's iPhoto library (OSX 10.7.2) with the iPad 2's Photo's app (or other app) via my Apple Extreme home network?  I'm running iOS 5 on the iPad.
It's clearly possible (and I've done it) to share iPhoto libraries between computers running OSX and iPhoto over my network.  On my iMac, iPhoto Preferences>Sharing opens a window with clear options to enable this service:
However, I have yet to find the app on the iPad 2 which will perform the same function so I can link libraries between my desktop and my iPad.  Is there one, or a third party app for this?
    Thanks

In general the simplest way would be to store the document in iCloud, and use iCloud to access the document from both your iMac and iPad.
But your post above says you're running Snow Leopard (OS X 10.6.4).  Snow Leopard is now two years old.  I'm not sure it supports iCloud.

  • IPhone photos to iMac iPhoto

I have a new 3GS. It will not email my iPhone photos nor can I import them into my iMac running iLife 08 and OS 10.5.7. The iPhone shows up in iPhoto on the iMac but it says there are no photos on it when there are. I did not have this problem with either my previous 3G or 2G.

How are you attempting to email the photos? The mot direct way is the Share function in the Photos app .. though that will give you 800x600 version. Or you can copy them there and paste them into an email. But there are known problems emailing photos via Yahoo.
If I open iPhoto and plug in my 3GS, the photos appear in iPhoto. If not operator error, perhaps your 3GS has a problem.

  • How can i transfer all my photos from iMac iPhoto Library to macbook pro to iPhoto or Adobe Lightroom 5

Just bought a 13.3" Macbook Pro Retina display Mid 2014 and would like to transfer all my Photos from my iMac to my Macbook Pro.
I have a thunderbolt cable ?????? Would it work if i connect them together and how ? If i can get some assistance and instructions on how to do it , Will be appreciated .
    Best regards
    Sam

To move an iPhoto Library to a new machine:
Link the two Macs together: there are several ways to do this: Wireless Network,Firewire Target Disk Mode, Ethernet, or even just copy the Library to an external HD and then on to the new machine...
But however you do choose to link the two machines...
Simply copy the iPhoto Library from the Pictures Folder on the old Machine to the Pictures Folder on the new Machine.
    Then launch iPhoto. That's it.
This moves photos, events, albums, books, keywords, slideshows and everything else.
    If you're moving to Lightroom:
You need to export the images from iPhoto to the Finder, then import them to your Lightroom Catalogue.

has details of the options in the Export dialogue.

  • HP Photosart 7520, printing photo from iMac iPhoto, OSX Yosemite 10.10.1 color issues

First time ever tried printing a photo - on HP photo paper, using HP ink cartridges. It prints a color portrait accurately, except for eye glass frames and shadow shades which it prints in "green". I tried editing the same portrait in iPhoto to black and white and printing.   Again, accurate shades of black and white except for the eye glass frames & shadow shades which  printed in "green". Ruins the photo. Help please.

    Hello Artiste,
    Welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that you are having an issue with some portions of the print outs when printing photos.
Please make sure that you have the printer power cable connected directly to a wall outlet and not a power bar/strip. Here is a document that uses a LaserJet printer as an example but it is meant for HP products in general. Please click on the following link that explains the Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector.
I have also located a document on Fixing Print Quality Problems for the HP Photosmart 7520 e-All-in-One Printer Series.
If the troubleshooting does not help resolve your issue, I would then suggest calling HP's Technical Support to see about further options for you. If you are calling within North America, the number is 1-800-474-6836 and for all other regions, click here: click here.

  • I can no longer share photos to Photo Stream on my iMac (iPhoto)

    Hi!
It seems I can no longer share photos to Photo Stream on my iMac. It works just fine from my iPhone - I can see the photos appear in Photo Stream in iPhoto on my iMac, but no dice the other way around.
    Any suggestions?
    Cheers!

Log out of iCloud in the System/iCloud preference pane and disable Photo Stream in iPhoto's Photo Share preference pane.  Then log back in and re-enable, respectively. That should jump start Photo Stream.

  • When I send a photo directly from iPhoto using the Mail app on my iMac, the wrong photo appears on my iPad2 Mail app.  However the correct photo shows if I log into gmail on the iPad2.  I assume there is a glitch with my "Mail" app on the iPad2.

When I send a photo directly from iPhoto using the Mail app on my iMac, the wrong photo appears on my iPad2 Mail app.  However the correct photo shows if I log into gmail on the iPad2.  I assume there is a glitch with my "Mail" app on the iPad2?  Any suggestions for getting the correct photo to show on iPad2?

Update:  I was able to have the correct photo show in my email as received on my iPad2 by changing a setting on my IMac prior to sending the photo on the email.
On the iMac, I went into iPhoto > Preferences > Email photos using > Mail (in lieu of "iPhoto").  This seems to have corrected the issue.  I'm not sure why.  Now the correct photo shows up when received on my iPad2.

  • How do I transfer all photos from my Imac, IPhoto version 7.1.5, to another Imac, IPhoto version 9.2, but keep the two sets of photos separate

How do I transfer all photos from my Imac, IPhoto version 7.1.5, to another Imac, IPhoto version 9.2, but keep the two sets of photos separate

You need to clarify what you are asking.
An iphoto installation has two major parts: 1. The application or program - that's the software and 2. The Library - that's where your actual pictures are.
    So when you say:
I want to keep using the old Iphoto program on the new Imac.  There is already an IPhoto program on the new Imac but I do not want to add or delete from that one.
It sounds like you want to move the application and not the Library. Most folks want to move the Library, and it makes no sense to have two versions of the application on your mac.

  • IMac 20-inch on OSX 10.7.4 running iphoto 11, my photos from my iphoto library have been deleted. I have time machine but the iphoto library file is missing when I access time machine, help please.

I have an imac 20-inch Late 2006 model on OSX 10.7.4 running iphoto 11, somehow the application ccleaner has deleted my photos from my iphoto library. I have time machine but the iphoto library file is missing when I access time machine.
To restore photos I have followed the steps below
    Quit iPhoto.
    Connect your Time Machine drive.
In the Finder, open the folder containing your iPhoto Library. Unless you've moved your iPhoto Library, it can be found in Home/Pictures/iPhoto Library.
Enter Time Machine.  (Time Machine can be found in the Dock or in the /Applications folder.)
Choose your desired backup. The timeline on the right side of the screen displays a purple tick mark for each of the backups stored on your Time Machine drive.
Select the iPhoto library you would like to restore, and click the Restore button.
I dont get the option in step 6 as I dont have an iphoto library file to choose? Does anyone know why?

    Hi Barry
Thanks but as mentioned all is intact, even at step 3 I can see the current library in Home/Pictures/iPhoto Library which has no photos, but when I access time machine any point before the NOW option the iphoto library in Home/Pictures/iPhoto Library is missing from the finder window.
As you can see here it is
and now its gone. I have no explanantion.
How do I go about moving this question as you suggested.

Transfered photos from IMac with Iphoto 9 to a mac book with Iphoto 11 now Iphoto 09 errors out saying "You can’t open your current photo library using this version of iPhoto. You have made changes to your photo library using a newer version of iPhoto. Please quit and use the latest version of iPhoto."  We have not updated or changed anything on the IMac all we did is transfer photos. Any help would be appreciated.

LarryHN is correct. The only way this message occurs is if the iPhoto Library database is upgraded to a newer version.
You could try holding SHIFT-OPT-COMMAND when launching iPhoto from the dock and checking only "Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup" and hope it restores the previous database prior to the upgrade.
If that doesn't work, you can install iPhoto '11 on your iPhoto '09 computer. If I understood the iPhoto '11 Mac App License agreeement correctly, you can install it on any personal, non-commerical computer you own running 10.5, 10.6 and 10.7.

  • HT201302 Old iphone 3g has photos on it. When I plug into my imac iphoto and image capture only bring up photos in the camera roll. There were more photos on albums and photo library on the iphone that arent showing up in iphoto and icapture.

My old iphone 3g has photos on it. When I try to get the photos off and onto my imac iphoto and image capture only bring up the camera roll. I have more pictures that arent on the camera roll there are albums and a photo library full of pictures that I want off of this dang phone. I have tried everything and I cant email them to myself because the service has been cut off of the phone. They are stuck on the phone there is there any way to get them off? Am I missing something.

The iphone is not a storage/backup device.  It simply mirrors the selected content of the computer to which it is synced.
Again, the photo sync is one way.
Did you fail to maintain a backup copy of your old computer?
Not good.  You can e-mail the photos from your iphone.  You do not need to have phoe service for this.  The iphone uses wi-fi.  The photos will never be of the original quality, as they are reduced when synced to iphone.

  • Photos on iPhone in wrong order after sync with iMac iPhoto

I just purchased my iPhone 6 and am trying to get it all set up with my photos stored on iPhoto on iMac. When I sync phone using iTunes all of images sync over. Not a problem. But here's where the issue is... On my iMac in iPhoto, all photos are displayed correctly with right time and date (along with locations). However, once syncing to my iPhone, a select 6 photos (random ones) are being displayed as taken most recently (yesterday) with wrong location. To be clear, this isn't under events but rather "Moments" on the Photos tab on iPhone.
What is going on? It looks fine on iMac. I have never adjusted the time and date of these photos so not sure how this is even possible. I'm using iOS 8.1. Thanks for your help!

My iPhone 4 camera roll decides to rebuild the library every once in a while and everytime this happens, it moves my most refer pictures and places them some where in the middle of the camera roll, making my last pictures I took with my 3Gs the most recent ones showing at the bottom. Small inconvenience but it looks like someone at Apple screwed up in setting up the sequence numbering of these pix and now it's a pain for the end users.
Has anyone experience the same issue and been able to successfully solve the problem? Please help.
    Thanks

  • Managing photos with iMac, iPad, iPhone using iPhoto

Help! Can anyone point me to how to gain some control over photos in this Apple environment, because my experience has been horrible so far.
As much as I love and have used Apple products since the mid-80's, to the same extent I detest the lack of understanding I have for controlling my photos across my devices. I will use the iPad as my foil, but it applies to the phone as well. I know how to search the web.
Where is a scheme described for simply managing photos? There seems no reason for many photos from my iPhoto library to be on my iPad. I have not opened the photos, nor explicitly placed them in photo stream.
I spent hours in iPhoto yesterday and deleted several thousand photos. Apparently, I only thought I deleted many if them, because they are still in my IPad and some are in iphoto.
Can I wipe out all the photos on the iOS devices, lock the devices so icloud can't put any back on until I wish, then allow me to select which I want to put on again, then start to trust PhotoStream?
Is there anyone with good information?
I really hate all the trial and error with this, and no satisfaction.
Last week I thought I sent some pictures of some people to PhotoStream to show when I went to visit them. Hours later, with iPad, wanting to show the Photos, none  i wanted to were there, by my PhotoStream share had a lot of pictures I do not care about. WTH? I have great wi-Fi. Everything is connected. Fine demonstration that was!

What version fo iPhoto and system are you running:
If you're using Photo Stream in iPhoto on your iMac disengage Automatic Upload in the iPhoto/Photo Stream preference pane:
Now you will have to manually add photos to Photo Stream in iPhoto if you want them to be on your iPhone's Photo Stream.
You can remove photos in PS from iPhoto by selecting them and Control (right)-clicking and selecting Delete from Photo Stream:
