Well let's see... First of all you can try the DIMM in each RAM slot one at a time and see if the problem occurs. It may be stable in one of the three slots.
Next I would attempt changing your timings manually to something conservative.. i.e. if your RAM is SPD set to be 2-3-2-6 try 2-4-2-6 or 2-4-3-6, etc. If that does not seem to help then try underclocking your memory to 333mhz (166mhz DDR).
Let us know!

  • Re: i can't start up indesign cc each time it says it has to close the program on start-up. I have uninstalled and reinstalled and have rebooted my machine seeveral times and it still doesn't work.

How do you create another user account?
I am having a similar problem - have deleted preferences which did not  solve - this is since I  installed the latest update - it is very slow - and  cannot close - says background task running  - but when I open background task  window - shows nothing - only way to close is to use Windows task manager and end program
mouse movements are delayed - it takes forever to do anything
    Windows 7 Pro
    Intel CPU - 2.93 Ghz
    Ram - 8 Gb
    AMD Radeon HD 7900 Series

My problem is really weird - ID CC 2014 with the latest update  can become very slow - at first it was only when I had other applications going [especially Photoshop] - but  for the last week it has  been every time I try to use it - even with no other app running.
Mouse movements are delayed, any selection takes forever to take effect. When closing - I sometimes get message saying background task is running [but not every time]
new user account didn't help, deleting preferences neither .
I had several ID files open -closed those - crashed ID - rebooted - opened  totally different files - same problem.
However - I have just deleted the file Recovery Data  in the users/user name/appdata/local/adobe/indesign/version 10.0/en_US/Caches/InDesign REcovery- and that seems to have temporarily fixed the issue as ID is behaving normally now.  [I guess that 's the same as  creating another user account]

  • Help !!! freeze and stuck on grey screen, difficult to reboot, here is my EtreCheck report

Help !!! I experienced more and more issues since I upgraded to mavericks and i brought my MBP 15" (from 2011, out of warranty) to the Apple genius bar a couple of days after my computer started to freeze and crash on a grey screen with less and less possibility to reboot it (tried all advices i could find on the forums to reboot in other ways, etc. ). The overnight tests at Apple gave nothing, they just decided to reinitiate the software and concluded that the problem was solved.
But the problem happened again: when i reloaded my backup from Time Machine, i could run the whole process till the end then when I was asked to restart, I couldn’t open the finder, my screen was stuck on a light grey.
I could reboot it (always in maintaining the off button to stop the machine or in using the single mode) but it’s non stable, after too many manipulations, the screen freezes or divides in 2 parts with lines, etc. And I have to try again different ways to reboot…
I took a new appointment to the Apple Genius bar, but in the mean time, I tried to repair the authorizations, and I have to say that the list is really long, even if I did the operation more 3 times…
I think there is a software conflict somewhere and find the possibility to check the system with EtreCheck (thanks! I will also bring this paper to the Genius bar technician).
Please, would there be someone who could read this information and gives me some advices and opinion on what could be problematic, what to do etc.
In end, what is very weird to me:
I could read on this forum that “startup items” are no more necessary since OS 10.4. I tried to delete the ones that appear here in library/startupitems, and found another one which is not mentioned in this EtreCheck list : startouc
Also when I tried to delete those items, it was refused by the finder with the message saying that this items are in use…
Another point: I uninstalled the application Chiavetta Internet 42 a week ago when I started to have the problems. I was in Italy and this is a usb key with pin for internet. At the moment thought about a possible conflict with the key and deleted every item concerning this installation. This is because I don’t understand that it appears now in the “User login Items”.
Thank you so much in advance

Hey thank you! I tried to send you a first answer but Firefox blocked... Again thank you for your advice and the detailed process to follow, hope it can help! - Also sorry for my English which is not my primary language.
Also don't know how to edit the Anonymous UUID... is it in the apple discussion account?

  • Takes up to 5 min "Applying User Settings" with events ID 6005 6006 after a reboot - Win Server 2008 R2 Standard 64bit

    Hi,
Has anybody seen the issue below showing in the logs? The time for the logs messages switch from the real time (17:57) to some random time (10:55). There seem to be a disconnect with the time. I noticed right when the status message while logging in switches
to "apply user settings", the time get screwed up on the gpsvc.log file and switches to the random time (10:55) and keeps reporting that random time till "apply user settings" process completes and switches back to regular real time (17:57).
I made sure the server is synced up with w32tm /resync command. Tried different DNS settings. Tried dis joining and rejoining to the domain. tried to block inheritance on GPMC to that OU. Created new domain user. Deleted local profiles. All with no luck and
same behavior which is taking up to 5 min "applying user setting" only after a reboot. If I log in and out without reboot, it would log in just fine within seconds.
Any thoughts or suggestions are appreciated!
    Thanks,

The numbers in parenthesis are PID.TID of gpsvc.exe. So we see a thread
change, and this usually indicates that a different logon process has
begun. Could you try to map this log entries to events in the group
    policy event log?
But to be honest: No, I've never seen such a behavior in gpsvc.log :(
I'm almost sure that a service is responsible, but how to identify it -
I don't know. There's no auditing for system time changes, AFAIK.

  • Lion takes 15 seconds to log in after reboot on Macbook Pro 13" (early 2011)

I have been having sluggish performance (repeated beachballs, etc.) on my Macbook Pro 13-inch (2.7 GHz Intel Core i7, 4 GB RAM), which I bought this summer pre-installed with Lion.
I didn't migrate my old system, I just installed everything on my new machine. After about 9 years of OS X upgrades on various machines, I decided to start fresh and just installed my applications and transferred the data manually. It took some time, but I wanted it lean and clean.
Within weeks though, things were starting to slow down. This morning, it took over 15 seconds after reboot before I could even log in to my user account (I clicked on the icon for my account, and after 4-5 seconds it beachballed for 10 seconds before the field for the password "slid" into place).
I've tried checking and unchecking having Lion restore my previous session before rebooting; closing all applications before restarting; not closing applications before restarting. But consistently, right after logging in for several minutes, and then after several hours of use (and/or the next day, if I put my laptop to sleep instead of shutting it down) opening, saving documents, viewing mailboxes after opening Mail, or even viewing folder contents in the Finder can take from several to 30+ seconds.
Here is the log from my most recent boot. I have Dropbox, LogMeIn, Default Folder, and Growl (the pre-App Store version), and I have Parallels (which I very rarely use), but I don't see why any of these would slow down my machine before I even log in. Besides this, I have pretty standard fair applications. I would very much appreciate any help/advice!

After biting the bullet and ordering more RAM, my computer now is working a ton better. So that must have been the main issue. With 8 GB RAM, I can now even run Parallels fluidly (better than my work PC!) where before simple things like logging in to my MBP after reboot could take forever.
The place I went to had several other people getting RAM upgrades at the same time as me, so between this and other comments I've seen in discussions here and elsewhere on the Internets, I take it to mean that either Apple should bump up the base RAM on its new machines, and/or stop charging so much for additional RAM.
I refused to believe a Pro machine bought with Lion installed would come with too little RAM for light to medium usage, but it was apparently the case. I'll mark this as a correct answer and hope some other poor soul will come across this thread and be helped by it.

  • I purchased a book on itunes.  It shoes up in itunes but not in ibook on my ipod touch.  I tried rebooting, syncing, updating.  Nothing works.  Can anyone help me?

A book I purchased from itunes store downloaded OK and shows up on my PC but does not show up in ibooks on my ipod touch.  I tried manually syncing and rebooting which did not help.  From the pc in the itunes store the book shows up in the purchased list.  From the ipod, the purchased list from the store is empty.  Actually, the book does not exist when trying to search for it at the store from the ipod.  I'm confused.  Any solution or suggestion?

The book is in ibooks format.  The extension is ".ibooks".  I did delete it from itunes and download it again from the store a few times.  I tried updating my ibooks app.  I even sent it to the ipod through dropbox.  I looked through all the settings I could find in itunes and ipod.  So far no matter what I do, ibooks does not see this book.

  • How can I reboot a default install of arch remotely?

I set up an arch box at school today, and it was the last day of school. I got it all set up the way I wanted, including openssh and the proper entry in rc.conf.
Imagine my expression when I realized that I forgot to start sshd, and didn't reboot the box.
I would like a way to use another box at school to reboot the arch box. I removed the default deny all in hosts.deny, and installed some stuff. I didn't reboot the box or start the daemons. Everything I need to start is in rc.conf, so a reboot is all that should be necessary.
Is there a security hole that I can use in the default install that will allow me to reboot the box?
School's out for summer break and I can't get back to the server room for a while.

You will have to use the social conditioning security hole for this one.  Call up the secretary/janitor/security person and ask them to power cycle the box.

  • After rebooting my Windows Vista 64 bit system, could not access iTunes; after uninstalling I tried reinstalling, but it has been running for more than 24 hrs. Should I cancel installation?

I had been updating my Windows Vista 64 bit system and as a result of a problem, had to reboot my system. Afterwards, I was no longer able to access iTunes.  I got a message stating that there was a problem with some of the files associated with the application.  A phone rep at Apple's Customer Service provided me with emails linking instructions on completely uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes. I did the uninstall, then checked for lingering iTunes files and couldn't completely remove some, but tried intalling the latest version of iTunes. It has been running for roughly 24 hours.  The status bar is green all the way across, and when I try to cancel, I get the following message: "Are you sure you want to cancel iTunes installation?"  I keep hitting "no," but am staring to wonder if there is a problem with the install.  Should it take this long if I have roughly 134 gigs of music?  I can still see the music in my computer's C drive, so I am worried that there is an error, perhpas because I didn't clear out all the lingering C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\ and all the lingering C:\Program Files\iTunes\.  Any thoughts?

It is not just the HP. I have 3 HP computes and 2 Dell computers. 2 of the HP and 1 Dell suffer the iTunes internet block. Took me a while to figure it out also. But, the one thing that is different on the Dell, is that I can leave iTunes installed and not open it and everything works. As soon as I open it, internet access goes down. BUT secure sites (https:) works fine.

  • AirPort Extreme extends my network and has worked well for three months. Now it can no longer extend the network and flashes Amber. I have restored to factory settings moved it closer to time capsule and rebooted the system without luck

i have a blinking Amber on my extreme now and it cannot extend the network.  It was working fine and nothing has changed. I have restored to factory settings moved it to another room and rebooted the system without luck. Any suggestions

    What OS are you running?
Please give me a screenshot of the current AE setup..
I strongly recommend if you have issues.. take control of all the variables. Apple routers have too much auto..
Here is a list that I use for setups when using Yosemite.. but it relates to any OS.
You will need to factory reset again to get going.
    Factory reset universal
Power off the AE.. ie pull the power cord or power off at the wall.. wait 10sec.. hold in the reset button.. be gentle.. power on again still holding in reset.. and keep holding it in for another 10sec. You may need some help as it is hard to both hold in reset and apply power. It will show success by rapidly blinking the front led. Release the reset.. and wait a couple of min for the AE to reset and come back with factory settings. If the front LED doesn’t blink rapidly you missed it and simply try again. The reset is fairly fragile in these.. press it so you feel it just click and no more.. I have seen people bend the lever or even break it. I use a toothpick as tool.
Then redo the setup from the computer with Yosemite or whatever you are using.
    1. Use very short names.. NOT APPLE RECOMMENDED names. No spaces and pure alphanumerics.
    eg AEgen5 for basestation.
Use AE24ghz and AE5ghz for wireless on each band, with fixed channels as this also seems to help stop the nonsense.
    2. Use all passwords that also comply but can be a bit longer. ie 8-20 characters mixed case and numbers.. no non-alphanumerics.
    3. Ensure the AE always takes the same IP address.. this is not a problem for router but if the AE is bridged you can have trouble.. Try using the static IP method or control it via the main router dhcp reservations.
    4. Check your share name on the computer/s is not changing.. make sure it also complies with the above.. short no spaces and pure alphanumeric..
    5. Make sure IPv6 is set to link-local only in the computer. For example wireless open the network preferences, wireless and advanced / TCP/IP.. and fix the IPv6. to link-local only.
    6. Set up the extend to the Express using 2.4ghz and then see how good or bad the connection is.. this is better in the old v5 utility but if you hover your mouse over where it shows connection an extra chunk of info comes up.
I have specifically used 5ghz to make the extend.. because by testing it works better.. but do not be fooled.. this good connection is poor.. the RSSI.. which is difference signal .. at -79dbm is down the bottom of the stable.. and it drops out on a daily basis.. you want to see that signal around -60dbm at min.
There is a lot more jiggery pokery you can try but the above is a good start.. if you find it still unreliable.. don't be surprised.

  • TS1363 Updated to iTunes to latest version 11.1.4.62 on my Windows 8 machine.  iTunes no longer recognizes my 5th Gen Ipod.  It does however recognize my 80gb Ipod Video.  I've uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes as directed (twice) & rebooted pc. no luck.

I just updated iTunes to the 11.1.4.62 (as the pop up directed me to) on my Windows 8 machine. As a result iTunes will no longer recognize my 5th generation Ipod Nano (yes two).   I receive a pop up saying "Ipod has been detected but could not be identified properly"   I've followed the recommendations seveal times: a) disconnected and reconnected. b) rebooted computer c) unistalled and reinstalled iTunes d) tried different cables e) tried different USB porst f) rebooted Ipod.... the window keeps popping up like a middle finger (you get the point)
iTUnes WILL however,  recognize my 4th gen Nano and my 80gb Video (classic) without problem
Needless to say, I'm frustrated and ticked off over all of this wasted time.
    Anyone solved this issue yet?
    Any good suggestions?
    Please advise
    Kindest regards,

    c) unistalled and reinstalled iTunes
Doublechecking. Have you also tried a complete uninstall of both iTunes and all the other related software components and then a reinstall? If not, try the instructions from the following document:
Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8

Your graphic card is damaged. This could be related to extensions, but the kernel panic gives you the message that your graphic card has failed.
You can only make a backup of your files with Time Machine or Disk Utility's Restore feature, and take the iMac to an Apple Store or reseller. Your computer has got the graphic card soldered into the logic board, so this will be a very expensive repair

  • Windows 8.0 Volume License machines reboot and windows 8.1 is installed??

We are a small private university with 484 computers running Windows 8.0 with MAK key.
This week we have had 2 Windows 8.0 computers spontaneously upgrade to Windows 8.1.
Since we do have a windows 8.1 MAK key all we had to do was enter the correct key and the computers were fine but everything I am reading about Volume Licensing says that this is not an upgrade path for Windows 8.1.
Is Microsoft pushing out Windows 8.1 slowly to volume licensed computers on Windows 8.0, or is this just some sort of anomaly that may happen occasionally.
One of our operators reported that the usual blue banner prompting upgrade appeared the day before but did not have an option on the banner to deny the upgrade.  The next morning when she booted the computer, Windows 8.1 installed and we had to enter
the 8.1 MAK key and all appears to be well.
This is not really a complaint, just that we were VERY surprised when it happened, hoping it was not some sort of hack by a third party.

    Hi,
I don't know how useful this information will be for that many machines. This was also observed on 8.1 Pro, not Enterprise, but here is what I found while doing multiple different upgrades... just so I could figure out how to stop them...
Windows Update KB2973544 triggers Win 8.1 to automatically install.
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2973544
In addition, KB3008273 appeared in Nov. 2014, which is also related to the automatic installation of Win 8.1...  It actually replaces KB2973544.
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/3008273
Windows Update KB2871389 makes Win 8.1 available in the Store, and is a prerequisite for  KB2973544 and\or KB3008273. You might uninstall it also.
    https://support.microsoft.com/kb/2871389/en-us
I have found that the installation of KB2973544 and\or KB3008273 create Scheduled Tasks in Task Scheduler under *** Microsoft \ Windows \Setup***
They are...** 8.1 Auto Install Ping** and **8.1 Auto Install V2**. They are scheduled for 8pm Daily.
I clicked on both and selected "RUN", as I didn't want to wait several hours to see what happened... A download started immediately.
After downloading for about an hour, I restarted the machine to see what would happen... The download resumed quickly after the restart.
After the download started again, there were two more Scheduled Tasks added to the same location....   **Windows AutoUpdate Setup Resume Task**... which was running, and
**Windows AutoUpdate Setup Store Resume Task**... which is *Ready*, but has NEVER run.      There was a Service *Modern Setup Host* running in Taskmanager.
***I have found that the only way to stop the installation of Win 8.1 once the Scheculed Task ....   **Windows AutoUpdate Setup Resume Task** is indicating "At Logon" for it's Trigger,
is to end all the tasks showing, starting with that one, and then the ** 8.1 Auto Install Ping** and **8.1 Auto Install V2**.
After Ending the tasks Delete them...
After deleting the Tasks, I had to go to C:\ $Windows.~BT, which is a Hidden File, and delete anything that has a recent date... especially the .esd file (Install.esd) of 2.67GB..
I deleted anything that was newer than one week. You could probably delete everything inside the *Sources*, *Support*, and *Drivers* folders...
Also uninstall the mentioned KB's, starting with the newest, and doing the KB2871389 last, as it requires a reboot.
Any attempt to reboot the machine before doing this results in the installation of Win 8.1 starting...
If you were to End the tasks and disable or delete them while the **Windows AutoUpdate Setup Resume Task** is still showing a
Date and Time for it's trigger, deleting the $Windows.~BT files may not be necessary.
The biggest issue with this process is that you may be denied access to the $Windows.~BT folder. If that is the case, you will need to take Ownership of it.
If you disable and delete the Scheduled Tasks, and uninstall the previously mentioned KB's shortly after selecting *Remind Me Later*
THE FIRST TIME, the process will be stopped, and it won't be necessary to delete anything in the $Windows.~BT folder.
You should have about 24 hours to do this.
After uninstalling the KB's and deleting the scheduled tasks, a new scheduled task has appeared.
It is *Pre-Staged GDR Notification*, and is scheduled to run at  *8PM of Every Thursday of Every Week*. My guess was that this is to remind you to install the Win 8.1 Update.
It actually causes another task to be created... *Windows Upgrade Notification Task*... It runs at the *Log On of Any User*
I couldn't get this task to show a notification. The task ran when I did it manually, but generated an error message in the log... *Specified Module Could Not Be Found  (0x8007007E)  Windows Upgrade Notification*
This is most likely because the KB's have been uninstalled.
I'm sure they can be disabled as well, if you want to stop\prevent the reminders.
I know that once Win 8.1 Update actually installs, those scheduled tasks no longer exist. In fact, the entire SETUP folder disappears.

  • Wife's Computer Keeps Periodically Rebooting Plus Can't Install HP Print Drivers

    Motherboard: Gateway, SX2370
Antivirus: Norton Internet Security, Updated and Enabled
First, please excuse me if I've posted in the wrong forum and hopefully someone will direct me to the right one. I also apologize for the length of this but I've spent the last 5 days dealing with HP support and getting help from TechGuy.org. HP hasn't been
particularly helpful. Through TechGuy.org, we've eliminated the possibility that the problem I'm about to describe is related to a virus or malware.
As this is my wife's computer, I have no idea when this started happening, but at random intervals the computer would sometimes display the message "Windows has encountered a critical problem and will restart automatically in one minute. Please save
your work." Sometimes this error code accompanies the message "Error 1722 RPC Server is unavailable". Other times there is no warning and the system just reboots. At the same time, my wife began having problems with our HP Photosmart C410A printer.
In checking I saw that there was a new driver. When I attempted to install just the basic driver, the installation would stop and indicate that the Windows Firewall must be running. I disabled all of Norton Internet Services setting an tried to activate the
firewall. I would then get this error message: "Windows Firewall can't change some of your settings. Error code 0x800706d9".
HP suggested I uninstall Norton Internet Security, use the HP Driver Uninstall Utility and try a reinstallation using their complete software package while activation the Windows Firewall. I could get the firewall activated nor could I get the drivers installed.
I then removed all the HP software using their installer. However there still seems to be bits "floating" about. I reinstalled NIS.
TechGuy.org suggested that there might be a BIOS issue and there are two updates available. They also suggested I may have to wipe the drive and do a clean reinstallation of Windows 7. That just didn't sound right.
In checking the Event Viewer the following error show up repeatedly at random times, which also correspond, usually, with a reboot. Here is a partial copy of the log:

    Hi Doc,
Yes you need to do a firmware driver update.
Here is the KB article regarding Event ID 12:
How to troubleshoot Event ID 12 with source Microsoft-Windows-HAL
    Follow the user action part.
You may follow the article below to check the update driver:
Update a driver for hardware that isn't working properly
    For Event ID 7034, check:
    Event ID 7034: Service Terminated
Another thing is please check Windows Update settings, make sure you have Windows stay up-to-date.

  • I have a late 2012 iMac running osx 10.8.5.  I keep losing access to my internal hard drive.  I can reboot and regain access and it will last for a few minutes or hours.  Disk utility does not seems to help.

I have a late 2012 iMac with an I5 precessor running OSX 10.8.5 and a 1tb internal hard drive.  I keep losing access to the internal hard drive/startup disk.
I can reboot and everything operates as normal for a few minutes or hours but then I lose all access again to anything on the hard drive.  The computer is still up and running but no files can be accessed and certain websites cannot be acessed even though internet access appears to be normal.  Disk utility can only find permission errors related to iTunes which can be repaired only to come back at the next scan (I would not think permission errors would have anything to do with the hard drive crashing).  It does not seem to matter what program I am using at the time access is lost and it can lose access sometimes right after reboot when no program is running.

You will need to boot into the Recovery Volume (command - R on a restart or hold down the option/alt key during restart and select it) to run Disk Utility/Disk Repair.

  • In updating FF, message says to restart to complete previous upgrade. I reboot, with same message. Attempted to uninstall. Same message, even in Safe Mode.

I tried to update Firefox and repeatedly get this message: "Your computer must be restarted to complete a previous upgrade of Firefox. Do you want to reboot now? " If I click no, nothing happens. If I click yes, it reboots, and I get the same message all over again. I have tried to uninstall the program and get the same message, even in Safe Mode. I tried to start with a previous system configuration, but the computer would not give me any previous configuration dates. I am using XP, and I deleted Internet Explorer, so I cannot access the Internet on that computer. I have tried to install the update by downloading the upgrade on a different computer and transfer it on a flash drive, but I got the same results. If I go to Control Panel/Add or Remove Programs, it says I have Firefox Version 13.0.1. For approximately 6 months previous to this incident, I have been getting a message when I load Firefox, that says that it could not install an attempted update. If I clicked okay, at least it would still run the old version. Now it won't even do that.

Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
