Pc software onto a mac?

Can you install pc software onto a mac??

Software simply doesn't work that way.
The software is "PC" software because it makes use of elements and services of the Windows operating system. While most of the functionality of the Windows and OS X environments are shared, how they operate is completely different. You cannot effectively convert an application from one to the other.
HOWEVER, you can use software that creates an environment on OS X where Windows software will operate. Your options are:
1. Use Crossover Mac. This software provides an application that will run Windows programs by providing a utility that translates the instructions in Windows executables into OS X instructions and library calls. It does this through some clever software tricks and reverse-engineering of the Windows software libraries. Some applications work, some don't. Some will perform better, many will be more buggy.
2. Use Parallels Desktop or VMWare Fusion. These are virtual machines. An entire computer, hardware and all, is simulated in software. You can use the product to create a virtual computer, install your operating system of choice on it (for example, Windows), and then run it as a sort of "second computer in a Window". You can install any Windows software you want in the virtual machine, share hardware and network resources between the virtual computer and OS X, etc. You can even halt a running Windows environment, copy it to a disk or over a network, and then resume running the program on a different physical computer (which could be running Mac OS X, Windows, or Linux). You can also keep several copies of Windows installed with different configurations and call them up when you need them. The only problem with this approach is that it requires you to have a copy of Windows to install on the virtual machine -- other than that, it's ideal.
3. Lastly, there's Bootcamp. OS X Leopard comes with a utility that permits you to partition your hard disk so that when you boot the computer, you can select which partition to boot from, and one of those can have a copy of Windows running on it. This means that you can only run one environment at a time (unlike the other two, where you run Windows and OS X programs at the same time). However, Bootcamp gives Windows unfettered access to the Mac hardware -- so there's a performance advantage.
I'd suggest 2, if you can afford it (Windows is expensive, the VM software is cheaper). Not only is the performance quite good, but it's rock-solid, 100% compatible with Windows software, and unimaginably flexible.

  • So i am new to the Mac world, and just purchase a Macbook pro. I have a new Sony camera that i wanted to upload the software onto my Mac. Its a CD of the Sony editing picture program. I put the cd in the side slot, but how do i download and use it?

I need to figure out how to put this Sony cd picture program onto my Mac for my new camera. Im used to a PC, where it pops up and you download and can just click the icon and open the program. I have no idea where to find it or how to download it to my mac! help!

First, find out if the disc contains software for Mac OS X also, or only for Windows. This should be indicated in the camera user guide, or on the disc label. If it doesn't explicitly say it's for Mac OS X, then you have nothing to install (except possibly the camera's user guide in PDF format). You may try Sony's tech support site to find out if there is any Mac OS X software you can download. The camera's user guide or 'Get Started' doc should have this info also.

  • Remotely Deploying software onto the Mac (not installing the OS)

My company develops client-server network security software. Our client side software runs on the OS X 10.x. We're seeing out open-source or commercial software that can do a mass deployment of our software. Installing our software is rather simple - it's comparable to installing LogMeIn for the Mac or VNC. It has it's own installer (if you're locally on the machine - click next, select your drive, next, next, done - that's pretty much it). We're just looking for a way to install our software, remotely (internal to the network - from a server to the clients) to many clients at once. Does anyone have any suggestions or can point me in the right direction? Thank you in advance.

Have you tried Apple Remote Desktop?

  • Can I install old G5 software onto my Mac Pro

    Hi all,
I have a Mac 8 Core Pro running Snow Leopard and Logic Pro 9.
I have slowly but surely been moving the software from my dual core G5 (OS X Tiger) to the Mac Pro.
I have a few software programs that I need advice on whether I can install them on the new Mac Pro.
Absynth 4 - Has Universal Binary but is for OSX 10.4
Trilogy Bass - Early Copy for OS9
DFH Superior - Early copy for Mac OS 10.2
Can the above be installed to my new Mac Pro or should I just forget it and not bother??
    Thanks in advance

Absynth 4 runs OK with the latest versions from NI (download the updaters using Service Center)
Trilogy.... Forget it... can run using a Wrapper, but it's really bad. (Does work though! Downloads from Spectrasonics. Much better to get the new Trilian instead.

  • I have a MS Office for Mac CD, how do I install the software onto my MacBook Pro (Retina Display)?

I have a MS Office for Mac CD, how do I install the software onto my MacBook Pro (Retina Display)? It does not have a CD drive.

If all else fails, try this.  i used to do it all the time before. might or might not work with the new office.
if you have access to another computer with a cd/dvd rom, copy the entire contents of the cd on a thumb drive.
insert the thumb drive in your MB and do the install from there.
However, if you have the newer version of MS Office, Bandit's suggestion is much better.

  • Upload GPS software onto Moto A925 on Mac OS X ?

    Hi there,
This is mainly a question to A925 users.
I am plannnng to buy Motorola A925.
I don't care of it is compatible with isync or not.
Main purpose of it would be the GPS function.
Would I be able to install the GPS software onto A925 although isync does not recognise A025?
    Thank you.
    Tom

Actually, there is a program that will do this, and a lot more. It's called Keynote. You can import your PowerPoint files, then you can trash PowerPoint, because you'll find Keynote does everything PowerPoint does better, and it does a lot more. Including exporting your presentations in Flash, PDF, QuickTime, or back to PowerPoint, if you must.

  • My license is for PC I now have a Mac, how can I download the software onto my new Mac?

I purchased the Adobe Creative Suite 5.5 for windows. I was given a disc to download it onto my computer. Recenlty my computer died so I purchased a new Mac. How can I download my Adobe Suite license onto my new Mac?

To get a Windows versions of CS5.5 onto a Mac you would have to try using a Windows emulator such as Bootcamp.  CS5.5 does not qualify for a platform swap, so you will not be able to acquire a Mac version of it unless you find someone selling it.

  • Can I use windows software on my mac?

May seem like a silly question, but when I purchased my macbook, I was told that I could reserve a portion of the harddrive to run windows software. I need to run Quickbooks Pro that I have in windows form. How do I load it onto my macbook???

    Ok, several ways.
Apparently, there's a wine-like solution for Mac, so you can run windows software from within Mac OS X. Expect it to be somewhat buggy and imperfect though, and it might not run some software. It's coming out soon as far as I know. I saw in on MacRumors a while ago.
Then there's the Apple solution called Boot Camp. What it does is just allow you to dual boot. It means you will actually be running windows on the machine.
And then a new user favorite, is using machine emulation, it emulates a second machine inside the current machine allowing you to run Windows inside Mac OS X. It's very memory-hungry, though, and somewhat slower usually. Look into Parallels and QEMU.

  • The touchscreen of my iphone is not working, and I want to backup my most recent photos onto my mac, but I have a passcode that I have changed since my most recent backup around a month ago. What could I do to get my photos back?

    As the title says,
My iphone touchscreen stopped working around two days ago, so I cannot input my passcode. I am trying to backup my most recent photos as I have been on a trip abroad to phuket the past week, and got back home but did not have time to move my photos from that trip onto my mac before the touchscreen stopped working. I have a problem because I backed up my iphone last around a month ago, but have changed my passcode since so my iphone is not allowing me to back up onto my mac through itunes. I wish I at least hadn't changed the passcode, or had my photos on icloud, but I have so many photos that the icloud storage would cost so much for me to keep them updated.. I am so frustrated right now as it's not that I have forgot my passcode, or that I don't know it at all, but I know it. I wish there was a software that I could use on my mac to enter the passcode or something. Is there a way I could do something about it?!

So you are not using Photo Stream? If you are, then you can turn on Photo Stream on iCloud on your Mac, and then go to iPhoto or Aperture and the Photo Stream will show under "Web" in the sidebar.
You can also set up your iPhoto or Aperture preferences to automatically import your Photo Stream, so any photos you take with your iPhone camera will upload and import automatically and will show under events, broken into monthly groupings.
Photo Stream does not use any of your iCloud storage.
Here are the Preference Screens I'm referring to:
    iPhoto:
    Aperture:
One other thing concerning your Touch Screen. Have you tried resetting your device (nothing will be lost) to see if that will get your Touch Screen working again: Hold down the Home and Power buttons at the same time and continue to hold them down until the Apple appears (up to 30 seconds). Once the Home screen redisplays see if your Touch Screen is working.
    Best of luck,

About 3 years old...pretty dated now I guess.  Am thinking I may just need to have it upgraded by a Mac tech.
For what the Apple Store's charge you can buy almost buy a new computer.
Just for giggles I brought my old laptop in for a drive upgrade and asked, they wanted $600 for a drive that only cost $120 at the time and it was a slow 5,400 RPM drive. The new Mac's of a similar make were going for $1000.
I did the drive replacement myself, got a faster drive of better quality for $300 instead.
Then another time I asked for a RAM upgrade from 4GB to 8GB, they wanted to charge $400 + $35 for the labor.
The same RAM is on Crucial.com for $90 and all I need is a 00 micro phillips screwdriver.
So you see what's going on here.
I think what you should do, if your out of warranty/AppleCare, is to call up the local PC tech guy who also does Mac's and have them fix you right up.
They can offer more personalized care which you need. Clone your old drive to the new and everything.
With Apple they are overworked at the Genius Bar and just place roadblocks so you buy a new machine instead.
For instance, all new iMac's now have proprietary drive software installed on the hard drives for heat monitoring. So now the only choice a user has is to bring their iMac into a Apple Store for a very expensive drive upgrade, which a person then decides the money is better spent buying a new machine.

  • I opened and edited a pic from my Olympus camera onto my mac (not in iPhoto).  I zoomed in

I opened and edited a pic from my Olympus camera onto my mac (not in iPhoto).  I zoomed in and rotated the pictures and when I tried to click out of them, I got a message that the file was locked because I hadn't used it recently and "If you want to make changes to this document, click Unlock. To keep the file unchanged and work with a copy, click Duplicate."  I clicked "unlock" and then another message came up with the options of OK, Cancel, or Revert.  If I hit OK, I couldn't go back to my original picture.  I clicked OK.
Then later I tried to open the picture in iPhoto and it doesn't recognize it, even though it is still a JPEG file.  It still shows on my camera, but shows as a bland square in iPhoto.  Have I lost the ability to open it in iPhoto?  Will I be able to go to a store and print it out from my camera?

No one can answer that since you only provide problems and questions
we need to know exactly what you have, what you did and what happened including exact error messages

What software did you use and exactly what did you do and what exactly was the  error message? There is a good chance that you will need help for the support for the program you used. Where was the photos you were editing not using iPHoto?

What version of iPhoto  Had you imported the photo into iPhoto - iPhoto is not a photo viewer and can not open photos that have not been imported
as to how your camera and the store work - those are qestions for them -

  • I am trying to install final cut pro 6 onto my mac but a message keeps coming up saying its doesnt support a powerpc, anyone have any tips please?

I am trying to install final cut pro 6 onto my mac but a message keeps coming up saying its doesnt support a powerpc, anyone have any tips please?

If you have an Intel Mac and have recently upgraded to Lion or Mountain Lion; here is a post I made in another similar thread:
I do not have any experience with Final Cut, but if you have existing projects that you MUST access; then you are in need of a solution on your new iMac in Mountain Lion!
Unfortunately you got caught up in the minor miracle of Rosetta.  Originally licensed by Apple when it migrated from the PowerPC CPU platform that it had used from the mid-1990's until the Intel CPU platform in 2006, Rosetta allowed Mac users to continue to use their library of PPC software transparently in emulation.
However, Apple's license to continue to use this technology expired with new releases of OS X commencing with Lion (and now Mountain Lion).  While educational efforts have been made over the last 6 years, the fact is that Rosetta was SO successful that many users were caught unaware UNTIL they upgraded to Lion or Mountain Lion.
    Workarounds:
    1. If your Mac will support it, restore OS X Snow Leopard;
    2.  If your Mac will support it, partition your hard drive or add an external hard drive and install Snow Leopard into it and use the "dual-boot" method to choose between Final Cut Pro or Lion/Mt. Lion;
    3.  Purchase a used Mac that will run Snow Leopard (with the optional Rosetta installed) and continue to run FCE on that Mac (you can actually use Screen Sharing with a "headless" used Snow Leopard Mac Mini and use the screen from your other Mac to view and work FCP in the Mac Mini environment);
    2.  Upgrade to an Intel compatible version of FCP (such as FCP X) and hope it converts your existing projects to its newer format correctly.  There is much debate that the newer version of Final Cut are eliminating many needed features; for example Final Cut Pro X vs. Final Cut Pro 6 -- many users are staying with version 6;
    3.  Install Snow Leopard (with Rosetta) into Parallels and then install FCE in the Snow Leopard environment:
Full Snow Leopard installation instructions here:
    http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1365439
NOTE: STEP ONE of the instructions must currently be completed on a Snow Leopard or Lion Mac and the resulting modified Snow Leopard.cdr install file can then be moved over to your Mountain Lion Mac for completion of the remaining steps.
NOTE 2:  Computer games with complex, 3D or fast motion graphics make not work well or at all in virtualization.

  • Panasonic TM700 recording in 1080/50p (PAL) - how do I get onto a MAC?

    Hi
I have just purchased a Panasonic TM700 and recorded a few test shots in 1080/50p.... only to discover that neither I-movie or Final Cut Express can import the recordings.
The Panasonic software provided is only PC friendly (and I'm not going there!) so has anyone got any suggestions as to how I can get them onto my MAC...
    Many thanks
    Steve

There will be several qualifications to my answer, because I work with 60p NTSC, and I'm not sure if PAL is significantly different or not. The main issue I think will be if the native video files are .mts.
When you connect the camera you should be able to navigate to the native files with this path: Camera Mem/AVCHD/BDMV/Stream/.mts. Copy the .mts files.
I use a program called Clipwrap to convert these files to .mov files. A free version limited to 1 minute clips is available for download.
Once you have the .mov files, you can import them to iMovie.
The other way to get the files on to your computer is record a small bit of video with HA 1080i setting. With that small bit, along with your 1080p clips, iMovie will allow the function of "Archive All" which will get the camera memory contents on to your computer, but you still have to convert the mts files with Clipwrap, in order to work on them.
