PC Stopped at Platinum Splash Screen

My K8N Neo2 Platinum system stopped responding while reinstalling Win2K.  I had finished installing Win2K from the CD and installed the drivers from the MSI CD.  I connected to the Internet and had run Windows Update twice.  Upon rebooting it stopped with the Platinum splash screen displayed.  It doesn’t respond to the keyboard or mouse, only to the reset or power keys.  I turned the system off and waited several minutes before turning it on, but it stopped in the same place.  I don’t know what to suspect since system had been running OK for several weeks.
Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks

Glad it worked . Some older cd/cdrw drives are slow to initialize (don't know about yours) compared to hd's .
And it also seems this motherboard sometimes have problems with two atapi devices on the same ide port , perhaps cause by to short ide init wait time in the bios , and it hangs when a drive is not initialized fast enough. So a workaround
seems to be to spread them on seperate ports .

There are three possible solutions to solve the situation:
    1) Install a processor supported by the current BIOS Version to be able to properly turn on your system and then update the BIOS to the latest Version to be able to use your E8400/E0 (update should be done from DOS only).
    2) Ask in a local computer shop or contact your reseller to do the same thing for you.
    3) Connect an internal floppy drive and a PS/2 Keyboard and then try to force the system into AMI BIOS Recovery Mode.  Instructions:
    Quote
Rename the desired AMI BIOS file to AMIBOOT.ROM and save it on a floppy disk. e.g. Rename A7345IMS.1xx to AMIBOOT.ROM
Insert this floppy disk in the floppy drive. Turn On the system and press and hold Ctrl-Home to force update. It will read the AMIBOOT.ROM file and recover the BIOS from the A drive.
When 4 beeps are heard you may remove the floppy disk and restart the computer.
Even though the AMI BIOS Recovery Procedure is the only chance you have to solve the situation without installing a different processor, it does not work in all cases.  However, as it is an easy procedure, it is at least worth a try.

  • Stalling on Platinum splash screen

I have Quick Boot enabled but when I power up, the Platinum splash screen just sits there for a full minute.  Then the boot sequence starts.  What is causing it to hang temporarily like that.  Anybody else have that problem and found a fix?
Otherwise, my system runs fine.  Windows has no problems yet.
I've got A64 on Neo2 Platinum, 1 gig Corsair 3200xl, 9800pro, floppy, NEC 3500a DVD burner, two 80 gb deskstars in RAID 0.  They all seem to run fine and the system seems pretty stable other than the hanging Platinum splash.

Thanks to rgreen for suggesting I pull everything out but essentials and start plugging them back in.  I know it's a common suggestion, but I might not have done it without your prodding.
It was one of my USB ports that didn't like my Canon i900d powered on at startup.  Seriously.  I've tested and retested and that's the conflict.  It works fine in all my other USB ports but that one when it's on at startup.
And this is the port.  Looking at the back panel, with the keyboard/mouse ports at the top, in the four port bank it's the port in the lower set on the left.  The port on the right of it doesn't care.  The ports above it don't care.
I can't tell you how relieved I am to have found the source of the problem.  Also, I'm amazed it could be something as trivial and arcane as a particular device on one particular USB port.
Now, knowing that even when it's using that port, it does eventually allow startup and works fine in windows, does anybody have any clue as to why that one USB port wouldn't like my printer powered on and cause BIOS sign-on to stall for a full minute?  What could be wrong with it?

  • Boot to Platinum splash screen then freeze

I'm suspecting the MB has gone south, but would like some assurances that I am on the right track and that I haven't missed something obvious.
    The system is fairly generic:
Antec Sonata Case w/stock 380W PW
    MSI MB
    A64 3200+  Stock HS&fan
    512Mb * 2   OZC RAM
    CDRW, DVD-rom
WD 120 SATA HD,  WD 40GB ATA
    SCSI card
    ATI 9800 Pro
Systems been running fine since July, today, needed to reboot after installing a printer driver and it froze on the reboot.
Before I cleared the BIOS it would come up with the BIOS version, and the processor description and then halt.  After clearing the BIOS, it comes up with the Platinum splash screen and halts there.  All the fans are going including the PS.
There is no response from the kybd, as in numlock/scrlock/capslock  don't respond (no lights on the kybd.)
I've tried the following in steps and trying to boot between each change:
     - reset BIOS
     - swapped out my memory sticks
     - disconnected the optical drives
     - disconnected the HDs, one at a time
     - removed the SCSI card
Have I thought of everything that I could try?  Does it sound like the MB is dead or is there a chance it could be the CPU? or something else?
    Thanks in advance,
    Zen.

    Contribute with some thoughts :
The board post bios logo , aka ' cpu works , gfx works . If not all would be dead.
    But it freeze :
This can be memory or memory slots e.g vdimm ref voltage to dimm slots duff(not in spec)
It can be parity check that bios post does on the memory.
It can be halt caused by "halt on all but keyboard" i.e PS2 , mouse , fdc controller .
When this cmos reset was done , was the board totally isolated , i.e
all devices removed including memory , gfx , cpu , drives , pci cards .
(if it's a bitch leave the cpu as the only item mounted)
I recommend clearing the motherboards cmos while it is totally bearbone
and also with the 20pin/4pin power connertors removed .
After it is cleared just connect 20pin/4pin power + cpu + speaker to it and the powerswitch (no mem , no gfx , no drives , no kb , no mouse ).
Fire up , and listen to the beep code , compare it to award beeps that its correct.
Shut down and add the mem .
Fire up , and listen to beep code , compare it to award beeps that its correct.
Shut down and add the gfx .
Fire up , and listen to beep code , compare it to award beeps that its correct.
Shut down and add the keyboard .
Fire up , and listen to beep code , compare it to award beeps that its correct.
Continue adding one item after the other .
    Codes:
    Repeating High/Low (siren):
CPU Either the CPU is not seated properly or the CPU is damaged. May also be due to excess heat. Check the CPU fan or BIOS settings for proper fan speed.
    Repeating (endless loop) :
Memory error Check for improperly seated or missing memory.
    1long, 3short :
No video card or bad video RAM Reseat or replace the video card.
    1long, 2 short :
Video adapter found but error .
Either video adapter is bad or is not seated properly.
    ..  , no luck here my guess is mobo gone bad .(if you are sure PSU still is delivering all voltages +3.3 ,+5 ,+12 , 5vsb , -5v , -12v and the PS_ON + pwr_good circuit/logic works)

  • Long Windows Splash screen hang. While XP/Splash screen is halfway loaded 5mins+

OK so I have been having a problem... I recently installed my Duel Core 4200 x2 939 and everything was good did a fresh install of Windows XP I installed the windows hotfix and then the AMD dual core optimizer and it seemed to slow me down a little so I re installed windows again and decided not to install the windows hotfix nor the AMD optimizer.....so the problem I am facing is when I power on the computer shows the Platinum start up Picture then goes to next screen but before it gets to the Windows XP splash/loading screen it it Pitch black for 4/5 minutes each time(timed it) .... what is causing this?  It did the same thing when I had the Dual Core optimizer and windows hot fix installed sooooo I donno..... Does the Dual core optimized and Windows Hot Fix really help ?

    Point taken Richard
    Anyway, as promised...
I never had any doubt that the enermax power supply wasn't working absolutely 110% perfectly.  Given the price of the thing new and the figures (in sig-hope I got it all ok, I followed instructions mostly!) it had to be alright right? Wrong.
I've just swapped out the PSU from my nix box.  Its only a 400w one so again scaled down this system, damn, works a treat.
Hope that helps you too gameboi or whatever you're crying ass name is.
I must thank aicjofs though for his post.  It gave a starting point to try and figure out what was happening and why.
With boot.ini edited to stop the windows splash screen showing I could see that a fraction of a second before XP starts to load the drivers, the last thing to be checked is nvram (as I understand it this could be both RAM and BIOS).  I just reckon that spinning 5 hdd's and 3 burners, my very power hungry RAM, with the graphics card is just about to come online and obviously the boards normal operation that the power drain at this point is incredibly high.  My PSU, unlike me, just hasn't improved with age! (This is all guessing though, but I really wanted to find some reasonable explaination as to why adding one hdd has slowed startup so much).  The reason the comp works ok after this is that the initial checks couples with the high power drain are done and dusted.  Again just guessing.
I would be genuinely interested on anyones views on that explaination-not here obviously otherwise they'll be handbags at dawn.
Laterz..I have a hot game of Spider Solitaire with my name on it.
Hope the above helps, sincerely.  Not my explaination or guess work, but just the fact that is was the age old problem of power.
    Balders
PS  Where should I start a rant about the appalling layout of this board Disregarding the constant reboots (PSU I'm hoping) and BIOS crashes, the badly thought out heat pipe (that does a fantastic job of heating up the GFX card though), the complete lack of 'Other boot device' in BIOS - one ide slot which has to have hdds on otherwise I suffer the 'delayed write error' (nvidia drivers, bless) so I have to swap cables over to the dvd burners so I can install windows!  Not forgetting the great positioning of PCI-e 1 x16 making the first PCI-e x1 slot unusable.  Flag ship MSI board?  I think not.  Half arsed money making venture...works a treat.  Oh, I already did it!  Thanks, feel much better now!!   I've used MSI boards exclusively in my own and the few other peoples builds I have done.  I will really have to rethink that in 4 or 5 years when I can afford another one after this abortion.
Oh, and what about Dual Core Center?  Again disregarding the spelling mistake on the GUI, a sure fire way to get my comp to lock up is to leave it set on 'Silent' (the only way I found to use cool 'n' quiet - yeah right) for a few hours.

  • My Photos app stopped working last week.  It opens to the welcome splash screen, but when i select get started, the wheel starts spinning and that's all that happens.  When I try to close it, it says it's creating a library, but never ends.

I have been using Photos since the update.  I had no problems until last week when it stopped working.  Despite the fact that I've been using it, it opens to the welcome splash screen with the "Get Started" button.  When I click it, the wheel starts spinning and that's all that happens until eventually force quit it using the apple menu.  Can anyone help?

OK, so apparently you have the MBW connected via the software equivelent of a crossover cable- ethernet frames but no routing.  Not sure what negative impact that has or doesn;t have. Certainly its not how the drive was intended to work - it would be far easier to just have a USB connection for that.
WD software in general has a very bad history. Note that some drives have been lost entirely due to incompatability with Mavericks - read the tips section here for mroe details, btu i would NOT use it.
I cant help you with WD software. But the first task is to access the drive and make sure you can communicate with it. I would go to the main drive to do that. From there you should be abke to remove the partition for the backup, and begin over with something less troublesome - such as Carbon Copy Cloner, Time MAchine ( i dont use it and did nt much like it) or , my preferred method, good old unix rsync.
In any event, your prpoblem is one of authorization. So first see if the drive is responding in general ( try to access it the normal way), then move to that particular volume.

  • **!! SOLVED !!** MSI P7N Platinum SLI Stuck on Splash Screen

Okay, so I got a bunch of new hardware for Christmas and finally the rest for my birthday this weekend and I am stumped.  I got all installed and when booting, I get the MSI splash screen with the spaceship and nothing else...just stays there on the splash.  Only one beep like my other MSI boarded PC and no more after that.  I have tried reseating all components including CPU, ram, graphics card and still no luck.  Also have tried with mainboard out of case on the box with all connectors plugged in.  My hardware is as follows:
    MSI P7N Platinum mainboard
    Intel E8400 Wolfdale
    Corsair DDR2 2 x 1gb
    nVidia PCI-E 260 fx card
I have all else unplugged to eliminate as much as possible.  PLEASE help me salvage this because I have to say its been the most disappointing birthday ever this year LOL. Thanks guys!!!!
P.S.  Also tried reseting CMOS many times including overnight unplugged and mainboard battery removed.

OK everyone...problem is fixed.  As u all thought, the S-Spec of my CPU was not supported my the BIOS version (1.1) that the Mainboard P7N comes with...so the way I remedied the situation was to find (and purchase) a cpu that is on the cpu support page for mainboard that is supported by bios version 1.1.  I also must note, do not go by just the model number, go only by S-Spec number.  Once my Intel Celeron D 3.3 came today, started pc with a botable floppy (made by windows on my other machine) and flashed bios the old fashioned way with floppy disk.  After flash to version 1.3, put my CPU back in and what do you know...IT WORKS!!!   So got Windows installed and have been stable for about 6 hours now.  Thanks all who contributed...I love you all!!!  LOL

  • Switched computer cases and now I hang at the MSI splash screen.

Hey guys. I've never had any problems with building my PC until yesterday on the simplest of tasks.
I decided to buy a new case and switch everything over but when I did it decided to hang on the MSI motherboard splash screen.
    Specs:
    * MEM 4Gx2|G.SKILL F3-12800CL9D-8GBXL + one more stick.
    * Processor = AMD Phenom II X6 1055T Thuban 2.8GHz Socket AM3 125W Six-Core Desktop Processor HDT55TFBGRBOX
    * Graphics Card = HD 7950
    * Motherboard = MB MSI| 880GM-E41 880G R
    * PSU = CORSAIR CX series CX500 500W ATX12V v2.3 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply
    * OS = Windows 7 64Bit
    * No overclocking.
So far I've done the following.
    * Removed battery/Jumped the bios.
    * Checked and rechecked each RAM stick.
    * Removed all connections.
    * Removed graphics card etc.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, Christmas has kind of killed my budget for a new build.
    Thanks!
These are as far as I can get before everything stops working.

    Really strange.
Have you made sure that there was will be/was no contact between mobo and case (apart from spots where the contact should be made) ? This could've break the motherboard.
Check ALL of the power supply cable connections between it and mobo.
Now something weird which doesn't seen to make any sense... Try to put your motherboard back to the old case.
That's all my suggestions, apart from that, if you're still able, then get it on a warranty and RMA it.
    Good luck.

  • After Effects CS5.5 - Lion: Crash on splash screen EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGABRT)

So one day, out of the blue, After Effects stops wanting to open. The worst part is, I can't think of any changes that would have caused this.
I am running After Effects CS5.5 (10.5.1) on my MacBook Pro 13" (Early 2011), which is running Mac OSX Lion. Here is my system profile (with some sections omitted).
Just a few weeks ago, I began to consistently receive this message during the AE splash screen:
    After Effects Alert
Last log message was: <140735295236448> <ASL.ResourceUtils.GetLanguageIDFromRegistry> <0> Unable to obtain the User 'Language' registry key at: Software\Adobe\After Effects\10.5.1\ Defaulting to 'en_US'.
    Here is a crash log.
    Any ideas?
    First attempt
I figured maybe I had a bad preference file, so I cleared my prefs. Nothing changed aside from a modified error message:
    After Effects Alert
    Last log message was: <140735295236448> <DynamicLink> <5> 0x114ee8418
    And a crash log.
Also, if I try opening AE again, after I cleared my prefs and opened it once, the error message returns to the "registry key" alert.
    Second, third, fourth attempt
So I uninstalled and reinstalled After Effects about 3 times. No change. I used the latest download from Adobe, and the original Master Collection image: no difference.
    Fifth attempt
I created a second admin account to see if this was an isolated issue. It isn't; same problem.
    Sixth attempt
I thought about QuickTime, so I opened up System Prefs, and uninstalled Perian. I left the prefpane there though.
Also, I have the latest version of Java.
Seventh attempt (Added 19 March 2012)
I used the Adobe Creative Suite Cleaner Tool to wipe out my entire Adobe installation. I still have the same problem after a reinstall. I'm going to try installing AE on my external drive next. This is really frustrating. Has anyone experienced this issue and found a resolution?
    Notes
Interestingly enough, all of the other Abobe CS5.5 apps I installed work fine:
    Bridge
    Photoshop
    Illustrator
    InDesign
    Premiere Pro
    OnLocation
    Extension Manager
    Added 1:54PM, 13 March 2012:
Also, opening up the render engine causes the same error message.

I just installed AE, have never used it, and am seeing it bail on startup with the same odd language registry key error. Please see my post on a related thread.
Any luck here? Would be nice to get AE to boot so I could evaluate it.

  • BLACK SCREEN on start up with 3 beeps, FREEZES when power unplugged, IF IT BOOTS splash screen freezes, OVERHEATING REQUIRED TO BOOT - 0x7B, Event 41 kernel-power

Issue: One day I unplug the power, the screen freezes and I get frozen music sound. I shut down, start up, I get 3 beeps (1 short 2 long), which indicates a Video failure according to the Thinkpad Laptop beep code list.
How I solve the issue day-to-day: I turn the heat up - I disconnect the battery and hard drive and plug in the power then turn it on. I will wait until the underneath is searing hot with a blanket blocking the fan's flow of air, I mean way hot because any
cooler and it won't start. Plug stuff back in, Hard drive first, Battery second, turn off with power button hold, unplug power, replug power.
I turn it on, no beeps, it goes past the first Lenovo screen, then gives me a prompt because it "didn't shut down properly" and continue regular startup. What happens next is the Windows logo appears,
and just as the animated windows logo starts to move (you see 2 small colored dots on the screen), it freezes. I see this every time, I know naturally that it means that the laptop is still too hot to go past that point, so I shut it down and try again. After
about 5 - 10 tries it will go past the splash screen and into the login area, then it's all fine.
Sometimes when I unplug the power from the back by accident it will freeze. By accident I mean that the connector wiggles it's self out easily. This unplug freezing thing started happening about 1 week before the 3 beep black screen problem started rolling,
    so I'm putting 2 together.
           Errors:
I got a Blue Screen of Death the first time I started it up with the overheating ritual, but I never got it since. It was 0X7B.
I got another Blue Screen of Death about a week ago, but came as it was on already and I had been using it, and said something about disabling Cache or Shadowing in BIOS. I never got it since.
           Event Viewer events found:
    1. Kernel-Power, Summary page.
There are critical events for a few things like Kernel-Power, Event ID 41, Task Category (63). There are 19 of them, each day 1 or 2 of them but mostly 1, so this maybe corresponds to my daily ritual.
"The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly."
    2. Kernel-Processor-Power - Event ID 37, task category (7)
"The speed of processor 1 in group 0 is being limited by system firmware. The processor has been in this reduced performance state for 71 seconds since the last report."
    3. LMS - HCMI - Event ID 2, Task Category: none
"LMS Service cannot connect to HECI driver".
I came across a very sluggish performing control panel for Nvidia before and after this problem, and I tried installing a newer version, which I had to jump through a few hoops to do, like uninstalling first, not just updating. At first it said that the
driver wasnt for the system, which was wrong. I made it work somehow, but it was still sluggish. I rolled it back to an earlier driver, and now it works fine. No sluggish performance / slight freeze window thing going on.
MSCONFIG.exe, Boot Advanced Options: I have tried twice to change this 1 setting, check box "Number of processors" and change to 2 processors, because I do have 2 processors. I have been able to change
this in the past, but it does not save the setting now, and I believe this option was selected before I started having problems, and settings did not disappear then.
What could this be. The small round BIOS battery? The video card like everyone presumes? (I.E. the entire motherboard replacement), Software? The wiggly power input area? (Not enough power getting in?), Firmware of some sort? The BIOS software being wrong?

I installed my licensed copy of Adobe Photoshop CS3 Extended today as part of my install a bunch of software after a reinstall of Windows (due to viruses).  I did a completely fresh install of Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit.  I've used Photoshop CS3 Extended for quite a while now so I know what to expect on startup but it was previously installed under Windows XP Professional (32-bit). Figured I would give Windows 7 a chance this time around.
Google searches aren't turning up anything.  When I attempt to start the application, I get a window with the title "Adobe Photoshop CS3" (no "Extended" - I seem to recall the title changes later) and the toolbar appears.  However, no splash screen appears and no Product Activation wizard appears - the application simply freezes on an empty frame and a toolbar.  I've tried running Photoshop as Administrator (right-click, "Run As Administrator"), but nothing changed there.  I tried uninstalling and reinstalling.  I tried upgrading to CS3 10.0.1.  Nothing works.  The application simply freezes before it gets anywhere.
I tried calling Adobe Support since this technically falls under installation issues but their phone support systems are down today.  Go figure.
Edit:  I hooked into Photoshop with the Visual Studio debugger and every single thread is executing some variation of WaitForSingleObject() or WaitForMultipleObjects().  The main thread is "executing" somewhere in AdobeLM_libFNP.dll (at address 09619d81 - if I had debugging symbols for CS3, I could provide a function).  There are nine threads "running" at the point the freeze occurs - but all of them are technically suspended due to the functions they are executing - and one thread is in a suspended state.

And, according to the Event Viewer, the "Binary" data translates to a zero-terminated Unicode string of "Cross-thread".
My Visual Studio analysis was far more informative.  All threads are hung inside of WaitForSingleObject() and WaitForMultipleObjects() calls and the DLL in question appears to be FlexNet-related.  I did forget to mention that I also even manually started the FlexNet service in case, for some strange reason, Photoshop was waiting for it to start.  That also did not work.
(And there is nothing in the Action Center control panel either despite the message saying there might be more information there.)
Edit:  The timestamp above might be a little odd-looking.  I didn't originally see anything in Event Viewer until I clicked the first button to send an Error Report.  Mostly I just skipped that part of killing a process.
