I'm trying to use the Content Copier to back-up my phone data to a PC'. I've done this a few times in the past without problems, but now when I try it only 50 phonebook entries (though there are over 200 in my phone memory) are being copied, and no calendar entries at all. I've tried it with two different 6210 phones, and I've tried both the 'Copy data from a phone to a PC' and the 'Copy data from one phone to another' options, but each time the results are the same - 50 phonebook and 0 calendar entries. The same thing happens

Thanks for that. It would seem that this is what it would be.I saved them all to sim bar a few when I got this phone due to this very problem... losing contacts! and having to enter them manually on a new phone. I would've thought being a phone that your contacts are the most important. Strange Nokia idea.

Sync not copying all Phonebook entries

Hi, my current configuration is:
Windows Vista
PC Suite 6.84.10.3
Cable Connection
Nokia 9500
I tried to sync my contacts info with Vista contacts, but it only copied 59 contacts into Vista. My phone has over 300 contacts.
I restarted the communicator and tried to sync again, but no new contacts were updated to the Vista contacts.

YOu have to force slow sync (slow sync means same as "first time ever sync between 2 devices") because then everything will be read from both devices and synchronised.
Also always use sync on both directions.
Connect phone to PC, open PC Sync, select Settings - Create new settings - run through the wizard of selections to force slow sync.

Do not create a new iTunes account... accounts cannot be merged.
Install iTunes on the new computer.
Syncing of iDevices does not import content to a computer, the sync is one way from computer to iDevice.

Why does iphoto not copy all photos when transfering

Hi peeps.
why does iPhoto not copy all photos from an event when im copy/pasting to an external folder on my mac(for later transfer). All softwares are up to date and ive only just realised it happens, but when i copy all pics in an event then paste in a folder, the pic count is substantially different. for example i select all pictures in an event called 'new1', the count of files is 188. i then copy/ paste to a folder, select all files and check 'info' and it says 141 files???
all i can see painstakingly going through to compare which images are in each place is that the ones that arent in my new folder , seem to be the ones ive edited in iPhoto?? conincidence? or am I missing something fundamental here? Ive only just realised this is occuring. The trouble is, after moving images to folders/hard drives I subsequently delete them from iphoto to keep my macbook airs HDD with some space. So basically all of the versions of pictures I want, i.e, the new edited and adjusted versions are no longer! NOT HANDY!

We've seen a few reports of this in the past while and no one is sure of the cause.
Use the File -> Export command. See this User Tip

means you are losing quality, metadata and the version of control. If you don't want these why use iPhoto at all?
You could just move the whole Library to an external:
Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
1. Quit iPhoto
2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.

Using the copy music command does not copy all the music

When I used the copy folder command in Itunes, it only copied either the even or odd numbered tracks from each album....
It does not copy all the tracks from each album!

How do you ensure people can not copy your materials and steal your ideas.

We have a number of training manuals and we just print them for our participants. A number of participants every year ask for e-copies. Its a great idea but how do I ensure they can not copy the materials and re-purpose it for their own use. In worse case scenerio they could copy huge chunks of the manuals and become competitors.
The searchable feature is one reason sited by clients for e-copies. This kind of shuts down the scan -OCR approach. To make it searchable would be a sizable task.
Some approach to limit easy copying;
bi-column writing columns
Waterwarks
encrypted passwords - however this still may allow it to be passed around to wider audiences.
I feel like I'm asking futile question in the modern e-era, how do i lock down my materials allow for ease of use and distribution and yet ensure our IP is not distributed beyond the intended audience.

Staying on paper provides only the perception of "protection".
It is trivial to prep a hardcopy source, scan the paper, OCR and have it all in PDF.
While Acrobat's OCR will do an adequate job one can step up to something more robust if desired.
Once PDFs with OCR output are in hand it is, again, trivial to export the textual content.
Going to TXT, RTF, DOC or DOCX lets one clean up, edit, etc.
Go digital. Apply appropriate copyright information to metadata and elsewhere.
Monitor your field of endeavor. At the end of the day it really is a limit field of play with limited players in a very big world.
Should you come across the baddies have the lawyers tree 'em eh.
If you've a end-user friendly, usable product you will get more "end-users".

Also, if you downloaded earlier in the week, make sure you have the 37.0.1 updated that was released on Friday (I think).

Is there a means to copy all incoming and outgoing email through the Apple Mail server to one inbox? As an example, Bob sends and email to Jeff and receives a reply. Right, I finally managed to get it sorted out.
iCloud only accept version 3.0 vcards, and the one I was using were version 2.1 so that's why it wasn't picking it up. So the easy way to get that sorted out is, use a gmail account.
I know you don't wanna do it because you think it's too much hassle and stuff, but trust me it only takes 5 minutes and that's it.
1. Create a Gmail Account.
2. Export your Old VCard files to the Gmail Account.
3. Now Import them from Gmail to your PC again.
And, that's it, that's just makes the new imported version in 1 file contains your all contacts in version 3.0. Now you can just upload that on icloud and then sync it with your iphone.
That's what I did and it worked, and I am sure if you wanna replace this file in the Contacts folder under your User Account in Windows and then try to sync Contacts in Tunes, it should work, but as I said, I did it with iCloud and it worked for me. So aye, that's pretty much it. Phewwww..
Been searching for it for the whole day and it took 5 minutes in the end, badass...
Anyway, don't lose hope and always Google for everything!

What does "I caught my phone 4" mean?
All contacts, calendars, photos etc should be on your computer as the iphone is designed to be synced to your computer.
Just sync them to your new iphone.

You'd have to think through this, but it seems like if you are using Outlook, and the items vanished from the Outlook client as well as the server,that you could re-populate Outlook using iTunes.

Why won't the copying action stop? How do i quit it so i can shut down? Items i tried to copy to either my hard drive or my USB memory are not copying - why? And now can't quit them either!

I have a Western Digital My Book hard drive which i use to store my media/data/back up. I tried to transfer some files on my desk top to it yestrday and it was taking forever so decided to stop it. Now it just shows under the Copying box, stopping but it isn't? I tried then to down load the same images t my USB memory stick and now that is doing the same. option discovered in preferences. Really this and any feature that moves deletes or edits a users data should as far as possible be OFF BY DEFAULT. It shouldn't by default and without the users specific say do this dangerous and unnecessary thing without even letting the user know what it's doing!!! And then cause me a few hours (as i'm new to mac) searching for the option so as to switch it off. If i hadn't noticed the status cage declaring that it was copying files then i might never have twigged that this insane thing was occurring. And if i hadn't of noticed i would have been left maintaining the contents of the folder i copied the files to, the folder which as far as i was informed and so believed was also the location of the music files i was playing. How does Apple justify this 'genius' piece of software non-design? Surely it will hurt no one if this was off by default for new users - overall at least i dare say it would cause a lot less distress in the future for the unsuspecting public at large. Eyedropper tool does not copy all attributes

Every document I've checked says that AI CS2's eyedropper tool will copy all appearance attributes. Yet it fails to copy the Align Stroke attribute.
It's not given as an option on preferences so I haven't inadvertently turned it off. All the others work ok. I gather from other documents in this forum that Align Stroke is new to CS2? Could Adobe have forgotten to add a line of code?

Yes, that is correct. Align Stroke is an effect, so like all other effects it does not appear specifically on the list. The transfer of effects with the Eyedropper is controlled by having the main Appearance checkbox checked. So checking all the items listed
underneath Appearance while leaving the Appearance checkbox itself unchecked means you want to transfer all aspects of Appearance
except Effects. (Brushes are another Effect that is applied through a palette instead of through the Effects menu.)
Since the behavior of Effects are dependent upon each other and upon the fills and strokes (for example, many of them are applied to a specific fill or stroke), they can only be transferred if the entire Appearance is transferred. That's why there is no Effects line. The Appearance checkbox itself means transfer the
entire appearance.
Is your Eyedropper tool transferring other kinds of effects such as Drop Shadow and Roughen?

I think it's odd too, and would consider it a bug. The Align Stroke item seems to have very conservative enabling rules. There are many other conditions under which it is disabled even though it is legal for the selection to carry aligned strokes. For example, it is disabled if you have a text object or a compound shape selected. Yet you can transfer outside or inside aligned strokes to compound shapes or text objects using the Eyedropper tool, and you can apply them to those objects by applying an appropriate Graphic Style, and you can apply them to those objects by dragging the Appearance indicator in the Layers palette.
My guess (I did not work on this feature so I don't know for sure) is that when it was first implemented it only worked on path objects, so the button was disabled for other kinds of selections, and then the implementation was beefed up to handle other kinds of objects, but the button enabling logic was never revised to reflect the new capabilities.
