PC Suite 6.86.9.0 ate 2.2GB of PC memory

Just installed new version of PC Suite (XP SP2) - everythign worked fine until I used the XP facility to switch to a different users (leaving the first user logged in). When I did this, the PC then started a mega disc thrash and became unusable. I left the machine about 30 mins and came back and it was usable but sluggish.
I fired up ProcessExplorer and checked memory usage to find that I was using 3.3GB of memory! I checked which application was using the most and it was PC Suite. I closed it down - no change. But PC Suite remained as a running process. I killed this off and my memory usage dropped 2.2GB to 1.1GB which is my normal memory usage.
I swap users in this way all the time and have never seen this problem before with previous versions of PC Suite.
Has anybody seen anything similar?

  • Is the Memory Suite thread safe?

    Hi all,
Is the memory suite thread safe (at least when used from the Exporter context)?
I ask because I have many threads getting and freeing memory and I've found that I get back null sometimes. This, I suspect, is the problem that's all the talk in the user forum with CS6 crashing with CUDA enabled. I'm starting to suspect that there is a memory management problem when there is also a lot of memory allocation and freeing going on by the CUDA driver. It seems that the faster the nVidia card the more likely it is to crash. That would suggest the CUDA driver (ie the code that manages the scheduling of the CUDA kernels) is in some way coupled to the memory use by Adobe or by Windows alloc|free too.
I replaced the memory functions with _aligned_malloc|free and it seems far more reliable. Maybe it's because the OS malloc|free are thread safe or maybe it's because it's pulling from a different pool of memory (vs the Memory Suite's pool or the CUDA pool)

if you cant access thru "pc suite" mode..try "mass storage" mode...your memory card should be accessible from there...you just need to copy paste the file from pc to your mobile phone's memory card..it doesnt matter which folder you place it..but much better if you can copy it and paste it in the "music" folder where the other audio files were saved...hope this will help you...good luck....

  • Problem with parts of PC Suite

I have a 6103 that connects to my Laptop via a bluetooth dongle, the connection works fine.
The problem I've got is that I've recently formatted and re-installed the the software on my Laptop including PC Suite v6.81.13 which is the same version I had on my laptop beforehand. Syncronise and Backup\Restore work but nothing else does, the other applications come up with could not connect to your phones. All the applications worked before I re-formatted my laptop.
Also I've received back the phone from repair where the problem was that it was not charging the battery.
Am I missing something obvious or a setting on my phone or within PC suite?
    My laptop config is
    Windows XP SP2
    Gig memory
    All the latest hotfixes etc
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks

11 days ago I did an update to my 5800 music express for OVI Suite, PC suite and my 5800X
Of course I backed up my memory onto the memory card in the phone, another copy to backup with PC suite and the horrible OVI Siute....
now when I access my 5800X from my pc with OVI it says server can not log on, can not find server
with PC suite it now will not read the majority of stored phone numbers , and the sms/text messages come in without names, just phone numbers
this update stopped my Nokia maps from working too
3 hours I was in the Nokia flagship store in Moscow reloading programs one by one undoing the damage ....
BUT OVI SUITE still DOES NOT LOG ON !
whats up NOKIA ? are you asleep behind the wheel ?
I am sure I am not the only person with this problem, and I am sure that my 5800X is not the only Nokia models to be affected
I swear I will never  buy another NOKIA , all my friends have troubles , very similar troubles
We buy supposedly good phones , pay good money ... all we get is problems with the phones, then pay for servicing ,because it is NEVER Nokia's fault !
so called "free" applications  cost money to download , they only access the internet through the similar !
Then these "free" applications  only work if you click your Similar online !

  • Pc Suite Sync memory card folder

    Hello everybody,
Is there any way to change the default Briefcase folder of the memory card as a sync destination on the nokia PC suite.
    Cheers

    Hi mr_kobayashi
Are your "Messages" stored on phone memory or card memory, as on my N95 the memory card can't be accessed via PC Suite if the latter applies?

  • Nokia suite reports "there is no music on this mob...

It used to work, and now it doesn't.
I'm running Nokia Suite 3.4.40 on Windows 7, connected via BlueTooth with my 5310 XpressMusic.
Sync'ing messages and contacts works like a charm.
But Nokia Suite reports "Thre is no music on this mobile" which is plain wrong.
I've tried renaming the folder on the SD from "Music" to "Musique", to no avail.
How do I get Nokia Suite to "see" the music contents in my phone?

    Hi nounours,
Nokia Suite does not seem to be able to access data on your SD card. If you want your music library to be recognised by Nokia Suite, you can try this:
Access your phone in mass memory (or USB) mode (direct access to the phone drives) / plug in your SD card
Copy your music folder on the computer and add it to Nokia Suite
Connect your phone in Nokia Suite mode and sync the music library
Also, check that your music folder name is identical to the one your phone memory. Alternatively, you can manage your SD card music library in mass memory (or USB) mode.
Let us know if this helps,

  • Why isn't ovi suite syncing the msgs on my memory ...

I have an E5 and everytime i try to sync my phone with my laptop the messages on my memory card dont show. I dont have a problem with the music, pictures and videos that are on my memory card, they sync just fine but none of the messages show.  I have many important messages that i need to keep. Can anyone help me please?

Ovi suite only tends to sync properly with contacts in phone memory C, try transferring messages to C and see if it ayncs ok ? Messaging>Options>Settings>Other>Memory in use, change to C Phone memory, and you should be offered the option to move messages. Hope that helps.

  • Nokia Suite Photo sync problem

    Good evening everyone!
I have a small problem with the new Nokia Suite.
I have a Nokia C6-00 and after I connect it, it syncs without problem (or so it says). But no matter how much I sync photos, the new ones do not appear in nokia suite. If I browse for them manually in the memory card, I can find them, but it's unpleasant!
If any of you has a solution, I would be grateful!
    Thank you!
    Luke

    Hi Farby,
Yes, I am refering to the Nokia Suite software. Hope I am using the right one.
I am trying it from the individual folders (Inbox and Sent etc). What my understanding is that since my phone message are not in the conversation message text, so it would be right if I copy the message from individual folders (Inbox and Sent etc). Also, I have used the newer version of Nokia phone and tried copying back the messages but still the same message is appearing there also.
Anyways, I tried also from the Conversation folder as well but it doesn't work.
As you have suggested copying the messages from the conversation folder to the Phone icon also does not work. It still gives me the same error message.
Yes, I am tried again despite getting the error message but unfortunately, it did not work.
The steps and the process that I have followed is exactly what you gentlemen have pointed out but I dont know I am not understanding what is the issue and where is the problem.
Kindly help if you have the answer
    Regards,

  • Ovi Suite terribly slow with my N97

Comparing with Nokia PC Suite, the Ovi Suite's syncronisation of contacts and calendar details is terribly slow. It also demands enormous amounts of memory when running.
Can anyone help me out? I have 1200 + contacts, and quite a lot of appointments in my calendar, but normally, PC suite would use max 1 minute to syncronise when just a few changes - Ovi will use 5 min + on this, and during those minutes, it will slow down all other processes on the maschine.
Any tips? I still have PC suite, but I find that Ovi Suite has other advantages, and believe I've got to get used to it?

This is not an issue with Ovi Suite per se, it is always slow to access mass memory, it was the same with PC Suite, and the N97 has a large mass memory which is why backing up takes a long time.

  • Caught in the Adobe information labyrinth and unable to find my way out

I am a native English speaker and live in France. (Already, I prefer English but in Adobe's zeal for optimization, they impose the use of French, or an additional ten minutes of research time to find how and where to customize the language interface.)
    Anyway...
Yesterday I purchased a copy of Photoshop elements 13 because i needed a photo handling and resizing tool that offered a minimum of layering options. The retailer had no idea what he was selling so that the entire discussion finally settled around the question of price.
On the assumption that I was buying some part of Photoshop functionality I agreed to spend 100€ to purchase the software via a "carte de telechargement du Logiciel" (a plastic card with a serial number that leads to a product license.)
First off, this morning I found that the webpage handling these serial numbers (www.adobe.com/go/getserial) returns a 404 error, does not work!  Then I found that for me to download and install Elements 13 I would have to buy a new machine, incidentally, a machine with a minimum processing equivalent to or below what I am currently using (a Dell Inspiron Duo-core with 2GB of live memory) running a Vista platform (perfectly adapted to my needs). One might think Abode was promote sales of Windows 7 and 8?
At this point I realize I am caught in an information maze (yes, the labyrinth metaphor) with 9 open Adobe tabs in my Chrome browser (including this one), and no earthly idea where to find the basic services I was looking for (layering functionality with photo resizing capabilities). So I look for a contact. I find approximately what I am looking for and "start a discussion" on the support forum.
The fact is I am looking for basic functionality, not space age technology: again, layering functionality with photo resizing capabilities. I do not know whether the Photoshop Elements 13 serial number I purchased for 100€ does what I hope it will do, and I find I need to buy a new machine to even attempt at finding my own answer.
    My question to forum contributors:
    1) is there a work-around to the minimum site requirements? (Can you even appreciate the kafkaesque absurdity of your reading my machine metadata and deciding for me that I cannot run your latest version because "you no longer support it", even if my machine meets your minimum requirement?
    2) Can I purchase and download a basic version of Photoshop for personal, non-professional use? The version I learned photoshop on was V7.0. This was more than satisfactory. Even the Crerative Suite versions (at least up to CS3) were accessible. Can I purchase an older version for personal use?
    3) why hasn't anybody figured out that there are far more everyday applications and practitioners than there are power users? Why haven't the adapts at "versioning" figured out and adapted a version in the 100 to 150€ range, rather than focus on "milking" the market as Adobe always (always!) has. Perhaps Adobe  has finally achieved the market power it has always sought, and has, in fact, outgrown their social utility.
    Thank-you.

(a modest user living in the south of France... and working in English!!!)

    3) why hasn't anybody figured out that there are far more everyday applications and practitioners than there are power users?
Most "everyday practitioners" have better computers than some "power users"... You know, some reputable high-profile photographers working on really old Macs whereas some kids have high-performance (gaming) machines. Not a good argument IMO.
a machine with a minimum processing equivalent to or below what I am currently using (a Dell Inspiron Duo-core with 2GB of live memory) running a Vista platform (perfectly adapted to my needs). One might think Abode was promote sales of Windows 7 and 8?
Not supporting Vista is not because Adobe wants Microsoft to sell more Win 7/8 licenses, it's for hard practical reasons - programming tools and compilers change and some stuff is simply no longer supported. Conversely, third-party vendors have long stopped supporting Vista, so what would Adobe do when an app has specific graphics requirements and no fix to driver problems would even be possible? Again, it simply makes zero sense for a million quite rational and objective reasons. That being the case, those same hard facts prevent bypassing the minimum requirements - you cannot expect the program to run on your old processor when e.g. there may be a specific requirement due to some system DLL only existing for newer processors. Contemporary operating systems are full of such hidden dependencies. Also let's face it - your machine was not/ would not have been particularly powerful even 7 years ago when Vista was new.
As for your specific issues: You can always try to find a used PS license of an older version and run the license transfer. In fact you might even still find unopened retail packages of PSE 10 or 11 somewhere perfectly legally. Similarly, you could possibly find e.g. a heavily discounted older version of Corel Photopaint, buy PD Paint for 30 bucks or some other shareware software and ultimately GIMP is totally free and probably would run on Vista still.

  • Is the Illustrator SDK thread-safe?

After searching this forum and the Illustrator SDK documentation, I can't find any references to a discussion about threading issues using the Illustrator C++ SDK. There is only a reference in some header files as to whether menu text is threaded, without any explanation.
I take this to mean that probably the Illustrator SDK is not "thread-safe" (i.e., it is not safe to make API calls from arbitrary threads; you should only call the API from the thread that calls into your plug-in). Does anyone know this to be the case, or not?
If it is the case, the normal way I'd write a plug-in to respond to requests from other applications for drawing services would be through a mutex-protected queue. In other words, when Illustrator calls the plug-in at application startup time, the plug-in could set up a mutually exclusive lock (a mutex), start a thread that could respond to requests from other applications, and request periodic idle processing time from the application. When such a request arrived from another application at an arbitrary time, the thread could respond by locking the queue, adding a request to the queue for drawing services in some format that the plug-in would define, and unlocking the queue. The next time the application called the plugin with an idle event, the queue could be locked, pulled from, and unlocked. Whatever request had been pulled could then be serviced with Illustrator API calls. Does anyone know whether that is a workable strategy for Illustrator?
I assume it probably is, because that seems to be the way the ScriptingSupport.aip plug-in works. I did a simple test with three instances of a Visual Basic generated EXE file. All three were able to make overlapping requests to Illustrator, and each request was worked upon in turn, with intermediate results from each request arriving in turn. This was a simple test to add some "Hello, World" text and export some jpegs,
    repeatedly.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
