PC Suite and Windows rights management

I have trouble connecting my N80 to get sync'ed properly and have been browsing this discussion. It seems like many of the issues are linked to the same: rights management for Windows users. Maybe Nokia developers are a bit unfamiliar too this? If you test the sw on a single station with no networking and policy, you will not get a result reflecing the world of the user.
At least suply an .exe package for installation enabling us to "run as" under Windows for installing for users WITHOUT local admin rights (common corporate practise).
Furtermore I wonder where the "clean-up" application went? Uninstalling PC Suite leaves a lot residue in registry.

seraphim. You have missed the point.
As a general policy, windows users should not run their machine logged on as a user with administration rights. This is good security practice and this policy will be enforced in Vista.
The Nokia PC Suite can only be installed by an administrative user, it writes to the registry for that user and that user only. If the same person (ie:me) then logs back in in normal (user) mode, the software won't work.
Normally there is a workaround. You log in as a normal user with user rights. Choose the installation executable and select (by right-clicking) 'run as ..' This allows the package to be run with administrative privileges - the username and password for an administrator is required before the action completes - but in the *context* of the normal user account, so the registry changes apply to the normal account.
Because PC Suite is distributed as an .msi file, this workaround is not available.
The proposal to use active directory to distribute software which will only be of relevance to people with a particular gadget is unrealistic. This is precisely the case where standalone installs by trusted administrators should be used.
The real problem is that PC Suite does not install properly and is confused by a change of user identity. This just needs fixing. A workaround using 'run as ..' would be useful however.
No one is proposing that the software should be installed by just anyone. 'run as ..' prevents this by requiring administrative credentials. At present even a fully qualified network administrator with full local rights *cannot* install PC Suite for a normal user.
This is not right. Being rude to prolie_no will not make it so.

Do you have windows mobile device center installed(WMDC)? If not download it from here http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/en-us/downloads/microsoft/device-center-download.mspx
Be sure you download the correct version for your PC. If you have 32bit OS or 64bit OS. To find this out, right click on Computer under start and select properties. Near the middle it should say 32bit or 64bit. If you know you have the correct software. Open up the control panel and go to sync settings. Right click on the partnership you have setup and select delete. On your device go to Start-->Programs-->Activesync-->Menu-->Options tap on Windows PC and select Delete. Then once both are done resetup your partnership. But this time uncheck everything. Then once it is done syncing. Go to Mobile device settings and change content sync settings and select Contact. Click save and let it sync. Do the same for calendar, tasks, and notes but leave the last item checked. So when Contacts are done syncing you go and check Calendar and leave Contacts

  • Adobe Reader for iOS and Android & Rights Management

This week's release of Reader for iOS and Android devices incorporates support for accessing files secured by Adobe LiveCycle Rights Management.
As you are probably familiar, LiveCycle Rights Management protects sensitive documents by encrypting them with industry-standard AES encryption and enabling central management of their access permissions. Protections persist even when documents are accidentally distributed via email, the cloud, or saved on a lost mobile device.
Many of the core capabilities that you are used to on the desktop versions of Acrobat and Reader are now supported when you are on the go on your tablet or mobile phone. We intend to incorporate additional functionality in future releases of these mobile devices and look forward to your feedback.
We've had several questions thus far about how this works. More information about the product, as well as a link to an FAQ can be found at:http://blogs.adobe.com/security/2011/10/just-released-adobe-reader-10- 1-for-ios-and-android.html

    Hello Jonathan,
is there an way to trigger iOS download to immediately open using "Adobe Reader"
instead of using the default Previewer (showing an plain empty white window) and then re-open it using "Open with" ?
Is there an MIME-Type to indicate IRM-protected PDF-files?

  • Livecycle ES3 - Opening and edit rights managed MS office document in SharePoint

As stated in the release note of LiveCycle Rights Management 9.5 Extension for Microsoft Office:
"After opening the protected document: When you open a protected document from SharePoint Server, all permissions on the document are disabled, regardless of the policy that was applied."
Current LC ES2/ ES2.5 does not cater the direct edit of MS office documents in SharePoint.
Is there any news that LC ES3 will resolve this to allow direct edit on the document?
    Thanks.

    Excellent!
    Worked for me.
I am currently using Windows 8.1 Pro  and  Office365 ProPlus.
I got the same issue as stated by "Aki from Finland" after and decided to follow the steps outlined by "TylorWang". There were a few things I did differently due to the difference in product versions. Instead of going to the \14.0 folders,
I went to the \15.0 folders (both in the registry and under the \AppData folder).
I used PowerShell, running in Admin mode of course, to stop the MYOSYNC
    process with:
    kill -name msosync
Once I was done with the three steps, I restarted my computer. Once I logged in into my account, the usual Office Upload Center cache error did not occur and my files are now syncing without any problems.
Thank you very much "TylorWang" for your clear and precise solution and thank you TechNet for your continued support!
    Taylor.
Edit: I also run Lync 2013 on my system.

  • Co-existence of AD RMS On-Premises and Azure Rights Management

Recently, I was part of an internal IT project to implement AD RMS on-premises on top of Windows Server 2012 R2. We had created a template, assigned users to it and the template has been in use for about 2 months without any issues.
I was then reading about the Azure Rights Management Service which had been released and we were eligible for with our Office 365 subscription. I went through all the documentation and went ahead with implementing it yesterday not seeing any caveats based
on our current setup. Well, today, I received word from users that they were not able to see the original template they were using when trying to protect a document, only the new "Confidential" and "Confidential - View Only" templates that
I know are provided by the Azure Rights Management Service.
I have scoured the web and the Microsoft IT forums, but cannot find any information about restrictions on using on-premises AD RMS along with the Azure Rights Management Service at the same time. I really like the idea of using the Azure version as then
our corporate users can get their policies on all their devices and when outside the network as well as the great new sharing options for other users outside the organization. However, I also need to have some more granular control over at least one template
which I can do with the on-premises AD RMS.
My question is: can you have both rights management services running at the same time? At this point, I may have to disable the Azure Rights Management Service in order to restore the previous functionality that my users are relying on, but I'd like to have
both options available if possible and short of that, maybe migrate over to the Azure hosted version. In addition, is there any documentation that includes considerations for migrating from AD RMS to Azure RMS?

  • My Firefox continues to stall a lot and Window Task Manager shows that Firefox is using a lot of memory (600,000k +) What can I do to make this stop stalling?

I play Farmville or on Pogo and my computer keeps giving me the hour glass and when I look on my Windows Task Manager it shows that I am using over 600,000 k of memory. When it does that I can't do anything unless I just use the power button to shut the computer down or use the task manager to "End Process". I do not like to do either of these so I usually just sit and wait for it to fix itself then later it does it all over again.
Also when I was doing defrag on the file type tab it showed two Mozilla Firefox so I am wondering if this is the issue but I only see one in the control panel.

  • Problems with SpeedStep and Windows Power Management: SYSTEM FREEZES!

I am running an E6600 on my MSI 975X PUE-Mainboard @ 2,4 GHz.  I am experiencing a strange problem that seems to be related to EIST and/or Windows Power Management:
As soon as I set Windows Power Management to "Presentation" or any other mode that lets Windows throttle the CPU frequency the system freezes randomly: no bluescreens, no error messages...the only option is to hit the restart button...
However, if the Windows Power Management Option is set to "Desktop" the system runs just fine!
Has anyone else experienced similar problems?
    Any suggestions?

    @Vaniireg
Thanks for your reply, but I cannot agree.  Windows Power Management is needed in order to use Speedstep:
    http://www.intel.com/cd/channel/reseller/asmo-na/eng/203838.htm
    Intel clearly states that:
"An OS that supports Enhanced Intel SpeedStep technology is required. Current supporting OSs include:, Microsoft Windows* XP SP2 includes native support for Enhanced Intel SpeedStep® technology."
    and further:
"Finally Enhanced Intel SpeedStep technology must be turned on in the OS. Currently, for Windows* XP SP2 operating systems Enhanced Intel SpeedStep technology by default is off. To turn it on do the following: Under Control Panel – open Power Options Under the Power Schemes pull down menu To turn Enhanced Intel SpeedStep technology ON select, “Minimal Power Management,” power scheme.  To turn Enhanced Intel SpeedStep technology OFF select, “Always On,” power scheme."
If I select the "Minimal Power Management" power scheme, the CPU frequency will drop to about 1,6 GHz and the Voltage (CPU-Z) to 1,136-1,144 V.  Whenever I do that the system will eventuelly freeze.  Skipping through a video file in Media Player Classic is sometimes enough to cause the system to hang.
If I select the "Always On" power scheme the system will run stable, no freezes will occur, but the CPU will ALWAYS run @2,4 GHz and the voltage WILL NOT be reduced to 1.14 V.
    @batcook09:
Unfortunately, a clean re-install of Windows XP Pro did not take care of my problem.  I've already tried that.  The system is not overclocked and is running with default settings.  Speedstep is enabled.
It is interesting to notice, that Dual Core Center always causes my system to freeze, even though Windows Power Management Options are set to "Always On".  I read a lot of bad things about this program and that is one more reason for me to avoid using it.
Well, I have forwarded my problem to Intel and MSI Support, maybe they will come up with any solution.
Until then, further suggestions are very welcome...

  • Nokia PC suite and Windows Vista business

Has anybody tried installing PC suite on Vista business. One of my friend claims he is unable to sync his E90 with his laptop.
    Here's what he mailed me
"• The installation gets completed and does not get completed at the last stage when there is a message that installation is completed successfully .
    • after pressing OK button next window pops up as follow.
    • welcome to get connected wizard which says please have your mobile phone and connectivity accessories at hand and click next , after conecting phone suddenly a message comes up saying that thereis no available connection type therefore the connection to the phone can not be established. the wizard will exit , I have to press okay as thereis no other button available, once I press okay the whole window disappears ."

I was able to fix my problem by completely uninstalling PC Suite and artifacts of its install using the PC Suite Cleaner app (Extras in the software section)
    To Nokia:
It appears that when i chose to 'never show this window again' when the Get Connected wizard first starts up, that in subsequent attempts to Get Connected, some mission-critical initialization and discovery failed to occur.
I'd surmise that this was a registry key change, but as a user I should be able to un-do this action, to be able to see this Wizard start-up page again.

  • C7 OVI Suite and Windows 7 Home 64bit - no way to ...

Hello everybody, I've just bought my C7 smartphone and I'm trying to synchronize my Outlook contacts.
I've installed Ovi Suite and tried to connect C7 via USB and bluetooth. It seems it doesn't recognize the connection properly. in fact, Ovi Suite shows the message: "the device is not in USB PC Suite mode. try to disconnect and reconnect the device". Checking my C7, it automatically selects the Nokia Ovi Suite connection (so, it should work properly!).
    Some tips:
    - the Ovi Suite window shows the generic "Nokia Device", it seems it doesn't recognize C7.
    - I tried also with Microsoft XP 32bit and everything works fine.
It seems to me maybe there's a problem with Windows7 Home - 64bit?
    Could anyone help me?
    Thanks

    Could you please try this?
    1. Unplug the phone from your computer.
    2. Uninstall all Nokia related applications. These applications include Nokia OVI / PC Suite, Nokia Cable Drivers, and PC Connectivity solution.
    3. Restart your computer.
    4. This step is necessary only in a few cases. If you do not have one already, install a registry cleaning application. My recommendation is CCleaner along with Registry Mechanic. Clean your registry using these applications.
    5. Restart your computer.
    6. Install Nokia OVI Suite or PC Suite, whichever is your preference. Make sure that you have the latest setup file.
    7. Download the Nokia Cable Drivers setup files from your region’s official Nokia website.
    8. Install the Nokia Cable Drivers setup file.
    9. Restart your computer.
    10. Plug in your phone and wait while its drivers are installed by Windows.
    11. Restart your computer.
    12. Run Nokia OVI / PC Suite. Your phone will now be detected by the application.
Hopefully it will help you to solve your problem

ThanksYou can't do that in Java. But, there are some tools that wraps your java programs in a executable
format, some of them even includes the entire/partial JRE so you can run your Java program on any
    Windows machine.
After you do the wrapping you can use other tools meant for Microsoft PE/NE executable (.exe, .com, etc files)
in order to make then undetectable in the process list.
    But you loose portability.

  • Problem with PC Suite and Windows 7 Home Edition 64-bit

I installed PC Suite on my desktop with Windows 7 Home Edition 64-bit installed.  I was able to eventually run PC Suite (granted it needed to run in XP SP2 compatibility mode) and sync my calendar on my W518a cell phone with PC Suite via Bluetooth communications.  After I turned off my computer and restarted it, I could no longer open up PC Suite...its icon appears in my system tray with a red X over it as if it can't find the program.
The SonyEricsson website indicates PC Suite can run with Windows 7.
What is causing the problem I am having?  How do I get this corrected?

I have downloaded and reinstalled the PC Suite software.  Although it is not working as well as it should, as long as I have my cell phone on with Bluetooth enabled prior to clicking on the icon to open the application, it seems to work OK.  Otherwise, when it opens, it just hangs and the only way you can close the program is to get into Task Manager and force it closed when its status is showing as "Not Responding".  I also have found that just "closing" the PC Suite window does not close the application...you have to click on the option to "Exit the Application" otherwise you continue to have it in your system tray with a red X over the icon.

    I am fed up!!!
Apparently Nokia is not listening to their customers and instead diverts them to a damn Nielsen forum to write down all their frustration and needs again and again.
Why is it so complicated to provide an easy syncing tool between Windows Live Mail calendar and the N8 and C7 or E52 phones i.e. their built-in calendars (e.g..). Yes Nokia, I have bought all three phones within a time span of 5 months and have NOW FINALLY DECIDED to end my Nokia-sympathy due to lack of listening support. It comes as a joke that the internet is full of grief towards this standard problem and that none seems capable to do something. Apparently none wants to do anything as the whole situation looks like a "friendly agreement" between Nokia and Microsoft. They call it Marketing, I call it short-term-wannabe-software- regulation-policy as an aim to support, e.g. Outlook!!!
Goodbye Nokia. I'll turn to Apple! Please excuse my frustration

  • T500: Access Connections and windows wifi management issue PostPosted: Fri Oct 29, 2010 2:31 pm

    Hello all,
This is my very first post here so please beare with me.
    My T500:
    Product: ThinkPad T500 2056-AK5
Operating system: Windows 7 Home Premium x64 (but same problem on Ultimate x64)
    Original description: Based 2056-4RG: T9400(2.53GHz), 3GB RAM, 160GB 7200rpm HD, 15.4in 1680x1050 LCD, 256MB ATI Radeon HD3650, CDRW/DVDRW, Intel 802.11agn wireless, Bluetooth, Modem, 1Gb Ether, UltraNav, Sec Chip, FPR, 9c Li-Ion, WinVista Business 32
The wifi NIC is Intel 5100 AGN, the gigabit is 82567LM. I bought also an Ericsson F3507g Mobile Broadband modem. All are working as supposed.
The win7 is freshly installed from recovery dvd's, all updates, both Lenovo and Micro$oft are up to date.
The problem: Access connections seems to be "behind" the automated wifi management of windows 7. I have two, three profiles saved for may home wifi network, my office wifi network and so on. My home network has settings like 192.168.7.xx, no encryption, only MAC registration, the office network has 192.168.4.xx, encryption WPA, therefore a switch is needed everyday between these.
The problem is that AC doesn't do that, eventually doesn't even switch between locations at all. In AC->Tools location switching is properly set up
The T500 connects let say at home, then when I starts in the office it connects to the office network but still using my home IP (192.168.7.xx) even if I saved in the profiles different IP numbers for both location. I have tried stopping the windows wifi connection service but then AC stop either.
This seems to me like windows try and force reconnect to the new network with the old settings, even before AC could interfere with its settings saved in profiles.
Only 2 things I can do:
    1. in windows' wireless network and sharing center I choose to start manually these networks, then start them manually from AC;
    2. Stop the network as connected automatically by windows (with wrong IP settings) then restart it from AC;
Both these are frustrating because my good old T60 running winXP did this automatically, without my inference.
Could anyone help me out of these, please?

I had similar problems with my T400.  AC would refuse to even show my access point most of the time.   I finally gave up and uninstalled AC.  The Windows 7 wifi management works just fine, but no profiles
Others on this forum smarter than me insist that AC works with Windows 7, just not for me.  It worked perfectly when running XP on this T and on my T61.
If you dump AC, do the basic wifi functions work for you?
