PC Suite back up/restore problems on N95

Hi all. I have just updated the sofware version of my N95 today. I backed up my phone's details: messages, photos, contacts etc via PC Suite. Unfortunately, when I have gone to restore my details after the software update the restore seems to crash at 55% of full backup and my old messages and contacts have not been restored. How do I restore these? It will be hell if I have lost them! Thanks.

Yes,
every backup is created on separate file.
When you click restore PC Suite will select most suitable backup from it's base. When no file matches exactly connected phone you will have an option to select one.

  • IMovie 6 back up restoration  Problem

I backed up all my IMovie Projects to my LACie External hard drive using Back Up 3 Software.
Now I want to have a look at a project and I only seem to be able to open all the projects at once and there is no where near enough space to do this on my HD. Is there a way of looking at individual projects and restore them one at a time or even store them on a DVD. Have tried that but still tells me that I am missing about 20 GB on my HD.
As you can see I am very basic with computers and need to know that I will be able to look at my projects again.

Hi Malu - .."I only seem to be able to open all the projects at once.."
That should certainly not be the case, Malu. Why are you unable to open an individual project? Can you tell us exactly what is preventing that?
You should be able to view and edit a project from your external drive, without needing to import it back to your internal drive.
Are the projects still on that internal drive?
Unless your projects are fairly small, the DVD storage option is not very practicable.
Note also: your external drive must be formatted for Macintosh machines, not Windows systems - Control-Click the external drive's icon, and select 'Get Info' to see the formatting - it should be Mac OS Extended.

You have to restore the device within iTunes. You want to use the same computer that you always sync with so that you can restore your app data and settings. You can restore with any other computer, but you will lose everything on the iPod.
Take special note of the article about using recovery mode. Many times, that is the only way to bypass the pass code and restore the device.

  • PC Suite fails to restore calendar.

I originally noticed this problem when I recently backed up my phone, updated it's firmware and then restored the backup.
I have seen other users complaining about this within these forums and on other forums and complain that the problem occurs on various N-Series and E-Series phones although I can only document my personal scenario. Noone from nokia appears willing to acknowledge there is any problem.
Full description as applies to me:
This problem applies to PC Suite 7.0.8.2 and at least the 2 previous versions.
I am running Windows Vista SP1. Full updated.
My phone is an Nokia N95 firmware 20.0.015
    1) I backed up my phone using the latest version of PC Suite.
    2) I updated the phone firmware.
    3) I restored the backup and all appeared fine.
    4) A few days later my wifes birthday arrived without a reminder from my phone. - At this point I discovered that the calendar had not restored!!
    5) I panicked after discovering just in time that it was my wifes birthday and spent a small fortune on emergency measures to keep her from finding out I had forgotten.
I subsequently tried to restore only the calendar entries from that backup. It spent it's time restoring, it claimed success but FAILED to restore a single calendar entry!
I tried to restore the calendar entries from much earlier backups made from the N95 going all the way back to sep 2007. In all instances it spent it's time restoring, it claimed success but FAILED to restore a single calendar entry!
I downloaded and installed a 3rd party application (Noki Explorer v1.6) to check the integrity of my backups and ensure that the calendar data was intact. It was! All calendar data is cantained within the backup files its just PC Suite fails to restore the data.
**** As a basic test to ensure that it is not a format compatibility between firmwares I performed a basic test. I created multiple test entries within my calendar, backed up my phone, deleted all calendar entries and restored the backup. It still FAILED to restore a single entry! (The calendar data was present within the backup file just not restored to the phone) ****
My calendar has traveled with me over my last 5 nokia phones constantly being updated and added to. In all instances I have managed to transfer my data from one phone to the next. This is the main reason I have stuck with nokia over all these years. If I cant even maintain and restore a backup from the same phone with the same software how can i have any confidence in my ability to move to my next phone? In fact what is the point in me backing up my phone at all if the backup can't be restored?
As a final last ditch attempt to restore anything I could I tried an even older backup from my old 6600. The calendar entries from the 6600 backup file restored perfectly!! So I now have some of my anniversary entries back but none of my up-to-date calendar.
So the way it looks is that PC Suite can restore a backup from an old phone but cannot restore a backup you have made with your current phone.
Any solutions before I pick my next phone would be appreciated.

    Hi swisslorenz,
as far as I know, this forum is not actively followed by nokia support.
This is why I wrote Nokia through this form: http://www.nokia.co.uk/A4222232
today they asked for more details and we'll see what they will tell me.
The workaround I read on this forum is to buy Noki, export all calendar in outlook and sync the phone with outlook. Of course, I don't like the idea to buy something else for a problem with pc suite. But it's a question of how much you value your time and your calendar...
the other workaround I found is to do a restore using the "My Nokia" service: http://www.nokia.com/mynokia
It's free, the only thing is that you need to have done a backup BEFORE using that service, to be able to restore...
so if you are new to the service, it won't help you.
It allows you to do a backup over the air of contacts, notes and calendar. I put a weekly reminder, so anywhere I am I can do it and I never forget backup any more. Handy.
    hope this helps,

  • Ovi Suite will not restore my Contacts

Installed Ovi Suite, backed everything up using Tools -> Backup, updated the phone software, Restored the backup and everything is back with exception of all contacts that were stored on the Phone Memory.  I can see these contacts in the backup file when I pas it into a hex editor and search them to verify they are the ones I would expect to see restored to my phone but no such luck.  I see others have had similar problems.
How do I recover this vital information?

  • E72 or similar - Pc Suite Back Up tools

    Hi,
Is somebody know if the back Up PC suite tool save all include parameters setting and the device OS ?
In the same way, if I want restore a full backup, can I expected that the Os will restore with all the parameters setting ?
This an important question for me, because I receive an SMS explaining that I can upgarde my device to the 022.007 version and I want be sure that I can return on the old version if the upgrade don't run as well as I expected.
    Thank for any answer
    Best regards

    Hello,
    Thanks for your answer.
My idea is that nothing is perfect and the best is the version which give for your (or better my) personal use the best result. So my idea is to upgrade but if the result is good for most of thing but not for my, may be, I will prefered made a back level restore and keep the previous version. If I can't restore the OS I will wait other problem and check if it's good idea (for my use) to ake the upgrade.
Thanks for every and enjoy with your smartphone
Ps : I don't have big problem with my E72. It's run fine and have good battery life (between 3 and 5 days). For me, it's good device with good response time. I am aware to keep less application running at the same time and close most of that I don't use immédiately.
    Good choice.

Yesterday i've update my iPhone os to 5. My problem is that itunes restored only half of my apps and settings. How i can fix this?
    Thanks,
    MM

Try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on your router
.- Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
    - iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections

    - iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
    - Restore from backup. See:

  • Nokia 5800 (Backup Restore Problem)

    Hi!
Yesterday I made a Full phone backup with  PC Suite.
After that I was going thru all my message (approx 940 of them) in PC Suite, its much eaiser to go thru all with that.
And suddenly all messages dissapeared, I tried to reload but no message showed up....
I checked the inbox in my phone and everything was gone there to, even my GMAIL message and account information....
So I tried to restore the recently created backup BUT it said:
     Unable to restore : Messages
I unhooked the phone and clicked into the inbox and got this message:
"The selected memory isnt avaible, new messages will be saved in the phone memory"
So I tried to restore an backup from 21st December... same **bleep**.. unable to restore messages....
I had to go to a backup from 19th december, but now im missing several messages that I need..
Why isnt the 2 recently created backups working, is there something I can do to fix it ?
The difference was that on the 20th december I changed the message memory from phone to memory card.
And the phone moved everything to the memory card.. and it worked fine, I made an backup the day after.
and the 25th (today) and none of those 2 can be restored....
Only the backups with the message on the phone memory.. (everything else on the memory card works, pictures, movies, music etc etc. so the card is working..)
So PLEASE help me, I really want my messages back again.
    Best Regards, Dan Norberg

    Hi again (sorry for spamming)
Just finnished up formatting memorycard and soft reset of phone.
I have restored everything but my messages, The inbox says 974 messages.
But There is only arount half of that restored and in the inbox (only half showing in PC Suite)
Tried to restore the backup from yesterday with all my messages, but when I have done that (only messages/textmessages) and restart the phone it says: "The memory you are trying to use isnt avaible, messages will be saved in phone memory"
The strange thing is that I have opened the .nbu file with ABC Amber NBU and in that program I can see all messages until the backup was made...
So why are the PC Suite not restoring the messages correctly into the phone ?
I have the 8GB card that came with the phone inserted now instead of my 16GB Sandisk one.. (seems like the sandisk 16gb isnt good at all, 2nd time I had to format it....)
So any ideas what todo now to restore the messages inside the backup from yesterday ?
Cause if ABC Amner NBU program can read all messages then it should be possible to restore them to right ?
ATM I have saved all messages on the phone instead of the memory card, I dont trust the cards anymore..
So Please help me, I really want my text messages back into my phone..

  • If I backed up with a newer version of iOS than the phone I am trying to backup to.. Is there any way to bypass the setup assistant in order to download the new iOS on the new phone then go back and restore from my old phone?

Try deleting your last backup by turning off iCloud Backup in Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup, then tap Manage Storage, swipe across your backup and tap Delete, then go back and turn iCloud Backup back on again.  If it still won't back up, you may have an app that is preventing the backup from succeeding.  To locate which one, go to Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup>Manage Storage, tap the name of your device under Backups, under Backup Options tap Show All Apps, then turn them all to Off (including camera roll) and try backing up again.  If it succeeds, then the camera roll and/or one of your apps is preventing the backup and you'll have to located by process of elimination. Turn the camera roll On and try backing up again.  If it succeeds, turn some of your apps to On and try backing up again.  If it succeeds again, turn some more apps to On then try again; repeat this process until it fails.  Eventually you'll be able to locate the problem app and exclude it from your backup.

  • Osx Lion Restore Problems

So I decided to restore my new 2011 21.5 inch imac back to osx lion, I decided this because apparently my macintosh hd wont let my partition it in anyway and i cant put windows on here unless I do a fresh install of lion, then I can do boot camp.
So I booted into the recovery manager option when you start up your computer and I clicked on restore osx lion.
It took about 6 hours to download, and then the computer rebooted, and now I dont know what to do, I went back to the restore lion option in that menu and it makes me download it all again.
Does anyone know what I can do?
Id  be happy if someone could help with my partitioning problem if they cant help with my restore problem.
    Thanks for the time,
    Dan

Lion Recovery Assistant should only take a few minutes to download unless you're on the slowest Internet connection known to man. Also OS X is NOT like MS Windows that has to be reinstalled at every hickup. It is INCREDIBLY stable. On the computer I'm using right now in the 4+ years I've owned it it has NEVER needed the OS reinstalled and is totally stable. I have upgraded it from Tiger to Leopard to Snow Leopard and now Lion. It has been through countless updates and still continues to work like it is a new machine.

  • My iPad mini is stuck on the Apple symbol. I tried a reset and it shut down. But when I turned it back on the problem persists thanks for any help

my iPad mini is stuck on the Apple symbol. I have tried a reset and it shut down. When I turned it back on, the problem persists. Thanks for any help.

If the reset doesn't help, the next step would be to restore the device to factory settings using iTunes on a computer. If you can backup the iPad first, do so and then restore to factory settings. If it all works out properly, you can restore the backup after you finish. If you didn't or can't backup, the iPad will be erased when you restore to factory settings.
Use iTunes to restore your iOS device to factory settings - Apple Support
IF you can't restore that way, the next step would be to try using recovery mode.

  • System Restore Problem - Time Machine

    Hello,
I erased my hard drive (after backing everything up, of course) to try to fix some problems I was having with general functionality. When I tried restoring my hard drive from Time Machine I was prompted with two backups to restore from. One was about 90GB and the other was about 60GB. So, naturally I chose the larger of the two.
The problem is that I think the backup was from October 2008 when I actually started backing up far before that (September 2007). Assuming I am correct, does this mean that I have lost everything from before October 2008? For example, since I have a small hard drive (110GB), and I have a lot of files (photos, videos, songs, etc.), I have to continuously backup, then delete files that I don't necessarily need on my internal hard drive. So, if I ever need to go back and restore them, I usually can with Time Machine.
But, since this recent recovery of my entire hard drive, I feel I have lost all the information prior to that October 2008 backup. Or does it mean that anything after October 2008 I lost? Does this make sense? I am still having a hard time understanding what it means to restore databases from a specific time.
Any advice would be most helpful!
    Thank you!

Was this before or after the hardware repair mentioned in your other post?

Do NOT depend on this. Time Machine is NOT like most "archival" backup systems. If you delete a file from your internal HD, TM will, eventually, delete it's copy. Depending on the circumstances, that may be in as little as 25 hours, or it may be months later.
One of TM's big advantages is, it will manage both it's space and backups for you, automatically. But that means, if you want to remove old files from your internal and archive them, you need to do it another way.
But, since this recent recovery of my entire hard drive, I feel I have lost all the information prior to that October 2008 backup. Or does it mean that anything after October 2008 I lost? Does this make sense? I am still having a hard time understanding what it means to restore databases from a specific time.
Again, TM is a bit different from other backup systems. If you restored from the most recent backup of your current set of backups (not one of the previous backup sets in your other post), then you should have everything.
For your current set of backups, assume you have the following:
    Full backup as of Monday
    Incremental backup as of Tuesday
    Incremental backup as of Wednesday
If you restore from Wednesday's backup, you get everything: Monday's full backup, plus Tuesday's changes, plus Wednesday's changes.
If you restore from Tuesday's backup, you get Monday's full backup plus Tuesday's changes.

    Hello Jai.
I'm not sure I understand your problem, but you may want to use different user accounts in your computer so different people may use Firefox without interfering with the others' work.
If that is not a possibility or you don't want to do that, you should use a Firefox profile for each user. Read this article to know how to:

Managing profiles will be made much easier with Firefox 4, and will be of of the new big things :)
