PC Suite Browser & Contacts

I am using v. 6.84.10.3 of PC Suite and a Nokia 6120 connected via bluetooth. The phone browser is showing all of my contacts, but most of them appear as having no phone number. In particular, no mobile numbers appear, and yet almost all my contacts on my phone only have a mobile number. I have tried editing the label on the phone from "Telephone" to "Mobile" but the numbers still do not appear in the browser.
Any ideas??
Thanks
Al

Hi,
Thanks for the reply.
No, they can't be seen from the Contacts Editor. There I have four columns: Name, Mobile, Phone & E-mail. I would have thought that they should all appear under "Mobile". This is the problem I am facing...

  • Phone browser contacts do not update

    Hi,
I'm using Nokia PC Suite 6.83.14.1 on Windows XP professional SP2 and Outlook 2003 SP2.
I've noticed that the phone browser contact synchonisation does not work correctly. More specifically, when I update or add a contact in outlook, then synchronize with pc synch, everything is synchronized fine with my phone. But when I go to the phone browser and look at the contacts, no updates have been done. If i refresh the phone browser contacts at that point, the changes I made in outlook (and synched to the phone) get overwritten.
I've already tried deleting the phone browser db and then the contacts are displaying exactly like on the phone (since the db is rebuilt) but when I do a new edit in outlook and synch that, the same problem occurs in the phone browser. To me, it looks like the phone browser does not know how to deal with edits done outside of it.
Anyone have any idea how to solve this?

Right, that would potentially solve the problem on my XP pc, but I want to keep everything synchronized between my cell phone and my 2 computers.
Also, shouldn't the most recent version of a software normally have more functionality instead of less. I think this is some kind of bug in the latest version of PC suite.

  • Phone restarts during sync/browsing contacts in PC

Nokia 6267, PC-suite. Worked fine until lately when:
    - can not back up Contacts any more; just can not be copied and all
    - every now and then, when connected, phone starts 'syncing/sending contacts' by itself (i.e when new SMS arrives) and somewhere in the middle of it the phone restarts, restoring picture and connections after a minute or two.
    - the same sync and following crash appear when browsing contacts in PC suite or under windows explorer tree.
Syncing calendar or copying other data from phone to PC works fine.
Could there be something bizarre in my contact list that won't allow browsing and copying to continue? How to locate the bug then?
Also I can not add any number from the log to existing contact.

I too am having a sync problem Nokia 6230 connected with Bluetooth (TDK Systems). Communication seems fine, but the Nokia applications have problems.
I used v6.1 Data Suite, and although it reported the usage of both Phone (158) and SIM (10) memory, it did not pull a significant number of the phone contacts across. It did not seem to be because of the memory used.
I thought an upgrade to v6.7 would sort it, but find the application to be more limited. It seems that the Data Suite doesn't evolve, it just revolves !!
I now cannot see ANY sim contacts, and still several phone contacts are missing !! No stats are given in the new interface, which is more like an explorer Windows than an application. 152 in Contact Browser, 162 in actual phone (but not the new ones from Outlook yet)
Entries from Outlook were brought in and an & (ampersand) prefix added (although this shows in the summary pane to the left as an underscore)
What is required is for Data SUite to pull ALL the contacts to the PC, allow the user to edit them, allow the user to change the storage(phone/SIM), or even BULK move between storage areas (so you can pull off one phone, and push to another), and to sync with the user's PIM, without loss or skipping of entries. Not much to ask this many generations on - other programs can do it !

When i try to access the "contacts" directory through the nokia phone browser i get and error: "Failed to start update" followed by: "The operation could not be completed"

I now have 100% proof it is a Nokia software fault on the Vista? Office 2007 platform.
As my XDA finally went deaf in the earpiece receiver I had to rely on the Nokia, without contacts or diary on the road the tool was useless for a mobile business worker.
In desparation I fired up an XP laptop on our office network, created a new user account and opened a new Outlook 2003 profile.
I then deleted the pst file.
Copied a backup of my Outlook 2007 pst from the Vista machine across the network to My Docs on the XP laptop.
Next I opened Outlook 2003 and when it could not find the default pst, directed it to the copied one in My Docs.
Now I installed Nokia PC Suite 6.85 on the XP laptop.
Connected the Nokia 6300 when asked.
EUREKA!!!!! when the Settings button on the Sync menu was pressed THE WIZARD APPEARED
...and the Sync worked flawlessly, 386 contacts copied from Outlook to the phone and many diary appointments and Notes.
All these function properly in the phone itself as well
BUT...this is a right pain in the a... for me to have to boot up the laptop every time I want to Sync and copy the latest OL 2007 file from the Vista pc to the laptop.
I dont even dare want to plug the phone back into the Vista pc, or should I - what would happen?
Does this not give a clue to the Nokia programmers of how/where to fix this for Vista/Office 2007
    Regards

  • PC suite caching contacts

Can anyone tell me how I stop PC Suite fom caching the last view it had of my contacts list?
I've been editing my Nokia N95 contacts list from 2 PC's via bluetooth, and both PC's always show me the contacts list as it was when I last viewed it from that PC.
Only random refreshes of browser views, switching both phone and PC's off repreated times eventually gives me a view of what's actually on the phone.
Rather than these random attempts at getting the current view of the phone, how do I force a refresh from the start?

PC Suite is 6.84.10.3 on both PC's. I always connect via bluetooth over an authorised paired link.
One PC is XP Pro, don't know what the BT stack version is, but it'll be a Microsoft setup. The other is toshiba BT stack v5.10.12(T) running under Vista Ultimate.
Both machines always open up with the last view they had when I suspended the connection on that machine.
The Vista Ultimate and Toshiba combination is worse, in that I can't delete contacts, only edit them. I always get some kind of 'could not connect to phone' style message on a delete.
    Any ideas?
    Cheers.

  • Does PC suite sync contact groups?

    Hi all,
Got the 6230i phone, and I use the Nokia PC suite to sync it with the PC. Now recently when my phone broke down and then replaced by  a similar one, I've notice that my contact groups weren't backed up, and I had to enter them again manually. So checked PC suite, and saw it wasn't aware of contact groups at all, although according to its help, contact groups were supposed to be supported. Can anyone help with this?
    Thanks,
    David.

     > - First, unlike what you say, my contact groups weren't safe. As I explained in my original message, contact groups weren't restored to the replaced phone I had got.
You can check if the contact group is correctly backuped using Noki. The problem you mentioned is usually occurred between S40 and S60 phones. They store contact group differently - S40 stores in a separate section and S60 stores contact group together with contact database (in the contacts.cdb file). These two format doesn't recognize each other very well.
What's the law of the jungle?

  • Problem with browsing Contacts!

I have the following problem: Whenever I try to browse my Contacts through Phone Browser, "Explorer.exe" hangs. I noticed that this happens when selecting Contacts for which I have specified an image on my phone. Browsing other Contacts works fine.
It is really frustrating, I have already installed PCSuite more than 10 times. Occasionally PCSuite will fail to detect the phone and the only way to get it working again is to reinstall (repair will not do).

  • PC Suite export arabic contact encoding

    Hi all,
I tried to export my contacts using PC suite last version, my contacts names contains arabic characters, i can browse it properly from PC suite and they are readable, but when I export from PC suite using contact > file > export to csv file, and when open it in excel or notepad, the Arabic names become " ????? ???",
i have tried to import the csv file with excel wizard and select eh Arabic windows encoding or Arabic ISO but it doesn't work too.
    Please help me,
    Thank you
    Regards

Please, try UTF-8 or UTF-16 as well. However, I experienced similar issues. Try to drag-and-drop them. That creates a vCard which you could parse yourself with a script or an existing app (which handles character encodings correctly).

  • Simm contacts on pc suite 6.8

    Hi,
it seems I can't copy simm contacts from my 7250i to pc suite 6.8 installed on my Windows XP HE SP2.
I connect the phone to pc suite, choose contacts icon, browse to contacts folder, click on the phone/arrow icon top-right, initialize phone-pc syncronization but at the end the contacts list remains empty, like it only reads the phone memory which is in fact empty.
Can someone please give a suggestion?
    Thanks all
    Mauro

Hi, I have the same issue (or at least is seems like).
Overall, the synchronization via Bluetooth and my 6230 is working fine, but when sychronizing conatacts, only 2 contacts (out of 200) appears in PC Suite´s list.
Phone indicates that synchronization is in process and successful.

  • Empty Nokia Phone Browser when using PC Suite

I have recently installed Nokia PC Suite v6.86.9.3 for use with my Nokia N95 8GB. I have also updated the firmware on my phone to version 20.0.016 so I should have all the latest versions.
Everything installed ok and i opened PC Suite as normwal. I can see my received messages in the bottom left corner of the Nokia PC Suite main screen but when I click on the envelope icon to create or send message it opens My Computer and nothing happens. The same problem occurs when I click on File manager or Contacts.
I have noticed in My Computer that I now have the Nokia Phone Browser. If I open this I can click on the icons positioned to the left of the window to create a new contact, create a new text message or refresh the folder, however the folder itself is empty.
I have read in the help files that you should be able to browse contact information & text messages along with the phone memory and memory card, but I'm getting no where.
Can anyone help me with this?

    Hi,
Can anybody confirm if this is still the way to solve the problem with phone browser not showing everything?
I used to work with PC suite for Nseries and could easily access my messages and contacts through phone browser. I recently did a firmware upgrade (to version V 31.0.015)  for my N95 8GB and installed Ovi suite (2.1.1.1.) and PC suite (7.1.55.0) since then I`ve had several problems among others with maps updater and map loader. For now I`ve solved the maps issue manually. I can make and restore back-ups etc. so it`s got me confused.
I tried on my XP (SP 3) pc in case of compatibility issue for Windows 7 64x but same problem, deleted connectivity cable, all ovi/nokia related stuff, reboot, then restart, pc did found new hardware, drivers added correctly but no messages or contacts in phone browser (the rest of the folders does appear!) and as soon I click on my phone in the tray pc suite shuts down but no way to remove hardware safely.
As my screen also seems to have trouble showing stability at startup since this upgrade, (it comes on, shows my personal picture on screen, takes some extra long seconds to get connected, rebuilds the screen completely, then disappears for half a minute and decides to pop back on again. But when I enter menu a long double line shows up on the right side screen -like opening a browser with a scroll downbar- then the bar disappears and the rest is working just fine! I actually never had any issues with my trusted and beloved phone before hence the long wait for firmware upgrade, if it wasn`t for the update to free maps.. (got a new N97 for a few days so I got excited about it )
The weirdest thing is I`ve already did some soft/hard resets-only with digits not with fingers-, also reinstalled the firmware update again so I`m a bit clueless to what to do next, so I want to try as suggested above but since that was posted 2 years ago...
    Any new or better suggestions?
    thanks!

I tried the option of Repair Sync, but was unable to fix it.

I tried re-installing my device software, which dint help me to fix the problem.
    My device is NOKIAE63.
OS on my System is Windows XP.

    Device software version: 500.21.009
Till now i was in a wrong assumption that, i might be going wrong somewhere in synchronizing my device contacts to OVI contacts, but now i strongly realise that, the OVI Software has got some problem, i have attached the screenshot of the error which i get, when i try sync my device contacts to OVI contacts. Please help me.
If i was aware of this problem from starting, i never would have choosen NOKIA, instead i would have opted for some other product.
