PC Suite:Restoring backup to new phone 6280

I've had a 6280 for ages, using it extensively, it developed a fault and was due to be replaced, so backed up via PC Suite (latest version 6.82). Now won't restore to new 6280 phone, even though it's clearly there as being backed up (approx. 9583kb).Starts going gets to about 20% on contacts then just freezes. Please help. I've looked at questions but can't see what to do. Thanks

Hi, Contacted ClubNokia, who sent me a link to: Contact Transfer application which should assist with extracting your contacts from the backup file.
Please note that this application requires PC Suite 6 .82 to be installed and will only restore contacts from the backup file, no other content type will be restored. The backup file must be located in the default location used by PC Suite which is as follows:
C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Application Data\Nokia\ContentCopier
This application does not delete any data from the handset before restoring the contacts from the backup file. If a contact that is present in the backup file is already on the handset it will be duplicated during the restore process. We would therefore advise you to delete any contacts that you know are included in the backup from the phone so that they are not duplicated. Only contacts from backup files of the type .nbu can be restored using this application.
PLEASE NOTE: ***The Contact Transfer application does not replace Nokia Content Copier and is not officially supported by Nokia***

Unfortunately you can't restore an incomplete backup.

Restoring from backup or new phone?

When doing a restore what is the difference between restoring from a backup or new phone? Is there an advantage one way or the other?

The backup for your iPhone that is created and maintained by iTunes, stores all your iPhone settings, SMS messages, recent calls, call favorites, notes created with the Notes application, alarms, cities tracked with the weather widget, stocks tracked with the stocks widget, Maps bookmarks, youtube bookmarks, etc., and photos captured by your iPhone - but I wouldn't depend on this one. Photos captured by your iPhone should be imported to your computer as with any other digital camera. Basically the backup stores all data not included with the iTunes sync process.
If you Restore as a new iPhone, or not from your iPhone's backup, you lose all settings, and all other data stored with the backup.
Your iPhone's backup is updated if needed as part of the sync process - the very first step during the sync process. If you want or need to restore your iPhone, and you want to do this from your iPhone's backup, you should sync immediately before restoring to update your iPhone's backup if needed.

Iphone 3GS was dropped and will not turn on or respond to USB connection. Is there any way to extract the data off when it is not responding so that I can restore to my new phone?

The phone is physically intact, but you can see the LCD is cracked behond the glass. I have tried plugging it in, tried putting it on the charger, and resetting it using the off and home buttons, bit response. I don't need the phone to work, but I do need to be bale to back it up in order to restore to the new phone. Is there any way to extract the data or back up the hard drive without repairing the phone? Just curious what my options are before I spend cash trying to fix the phone and find out there was another way to get the data. Im not going to be much help because I don't know of anything else to besides take it somewhere that fixes electronics and see if they can get it off some how maybe if you take it to an apple store they can do something to get your information.

Well, the obviously solution is to use separate Apple ID's for iCloud.

Finally got through to tech support and found someone who seemed to know what was going on, he walked me through and using appleid.applesupport got me to a point where i could get a new password for the apple id that kept showing up.

restoring as new does just that. It will wipe your phone clean just as if you just bought it.
If you've been using your iPhone as recommended, you've been synching your contacts to your computer to a contact manager such as Outlook or Address Book, or you've been synching your contacts with a cloud service like MobileMe or Google. Your contacts should be safe in one of those locations.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that you cannot use your Wi-Fi after the latest update to your iPhone 4s. I know you have already done some great troubleshooting by restoring with iTunes but the Wi-Fi becomes unavailable very quickly after you set it up. Go ahead and set up the iPhone so you can get into the Setting and then follow the steps provided in the attached article.

Resolution
Follow these steps to resolve the issue:
Restart your iOS device.
Make sure that airplane mode is off by tapping Settings > Airplane Mode.
Reset the network settings by tapping Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
This will reset all network settings, including Bluetooth pairing records, Wi-Fi passwords, VPN, and APN settings.
Make sure that your device is using the latest software. To do so, connect your device to your computer and check for updates in iTunes.
If you complete all of these steps and still are not able to access the Wi-Fi, it may be necessary to follow the link at the bottom of the page and contact Apple Support.

As stated in the System Requirements, an iPhone 5 runs iOS 6. In order to sync to a computer you must have OSX 10.6.8 or later and iTunes 11 on the computer. If you can upgrade your MacBook to OSX 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard) you can purchase this version of OSX in the Apple Store. Most intel macs can run at least OSX 10.6.8. If your MacBook is a power pc Mac you are at the end of the supported operating systems and will not be able to upgrade the OSX or sync your iPhone 5.

Trying to restore from icloud backup to new phone

I have just bought a new phone as old one was damaged. I am trying to restore from icloud backup. when it asks for a rescue email address it won't accept the address I am submitting even though it is not any of the addresses that are already registered with icloud as apple id, alternate or rescue emails. this has happened with two different email addresses now, neither of which icloud have a previous record of. not sure what to do now!

You actually have to go through extra steps of setting up your phone as new, updating and then erasing and restoring from that back up.

I've had blackberrys forever. About 50% of the time i got the latest phone becasue i damaged the previous one. I often did whole phone backups, but could never restore the backup to the new phone. I rarely got the chance to do the phone "switch/transfer" method. There's got to be a way to do this switch from the backup? In general all my email and contacts were from a BES server - so not a problem. -But media, apps, settings all had to be set or downloaded manually again.
Please tell me I've been missing something that exists.

With that description the problem could be anything from the computer wouldn't boot up to I can't find my BlackBerry.

Nokia Suite - restoring backup from .NBU but Text ...

I am having a problem with restoring of my Backup to my mobile C6-00 using nokia suite. I have taken backup (.NBU) file from my old C6-00 and restoring it on my new C6-00 every time I am getting error that all other things are restored like settings, contacts, notes but not my text massage......
As per my knowledge my old phone was having different firmware then my new phone.... Is that reason I m not able to restored my SMS .. Is there any fix for it ...

I found a solution guys. You can easily restore your txt messages. Follow the steps :
1. Download MS .NET update and install on your PC.
2. Download NBU Explorer 2.2, extract and run.
3. Browse open your backup .nbu file form which you want your sms to be restored, and wait to load.
4. Select Messages folder and export to desktop(or any other place as per your convenience).
5. Get Nokia PC Suit (I dont know if it works with Nokia Suit or Ovi Suit, you may try though, I did with PC Suit) according to your platform and install.
6. As usual connect your hand set and let the suit detect it.
7. Open Nokia Communication Centre(Messages) and select Message Folders / My Folders.
8. From Menu select File->Import and browse to the previously exported folder.
9. Select the folders/messages as oer your needs and click save.
10. Wait for the messages to be saved and you are DONE!!
