PC Surround sound no center or rear speakers sound output

Ok so i just bought a 5 peice Acoustic Authority 5.1 speakers and i had to buy a 5.1 sound card along, because the one i had did not support the speakers i had. Problem is, i plugged all 5 speakers in including the subwoofer but only my two front work. My front two are operating of the green jack in the back, my center is orange, and the rears the black jack. I tried to change the computer formatting and but i found out they were already set at 5.1. I have no idea as far as th e problem and i don't think it's the sound card because my front two work fine, and i tried all the others on a cd play and they worked just fine. anyone have any idea what i could do? is this a driver update problem? i have been lookin for new drivers, if anyone has any can you please give me the link or something.
any help appreciated..thanks!

  • Inpire P5800 : No sound from center and rear speakers

I have just bought the Inspire P5800 speakers system (5.1) and only the two front speakers and the buffer produce sound. The problem may come from the fact I have an single output audio card (RealTek AC'97). Is there anything to do to have the sound coming out from the 5 speakers (expect buying a 5.1 audio card) ? I read my audio files with winamp and WMP.

    Hi Guys,
I would really appreciate if somebody could reply to my query. Its been very frustating here.
In the meanwhile I have done the following troubleshooting more :
    1) Took a head set and connected to all ports at the back of the sound card. Sound is coming from there.
    2) Went ahead and removed the creative drive and the application.
    3) did a search in the registry with the keyword as "Creative". Removed all entries that were found.
    4) Reinstaled the latest drivers and the application.
    5) Tried he card ina different PCI slot.
But everything has been to no avail. There is still no sound from the rear and front center speakers. Its really driving me nuts.
It seems as if the souncard is passing the signal to the sub woofer but it is not directing it to both these channels.
Any help would be deeply appreciated.
    Regards,
    Amit

  • 5.1 Digital Surround Sound Output

So what I need is to learn if AA3 has the ability for me to play only those First Violins (Rear Left), Second Violins, Piccolo, Oboe, Clarinet (Front Left), Brass Section & Cymbals (Front Right), Woodwind section (Center), Pipe Organ 16' bass, Timpani & Percussion etc (Sub-woofer), Double Bass (right rear), Violas, Keyboards, Organs, etc (Front Right).
Does anyone know how I can do this?
I need to experience what an Orchestra Conductor hears by digitizing through Multi-Track the ability to hear what he hears, but extended almost 360 degrees. My source material is mono-aural John Phillip Souza's marches recorded in the 1960s through Reader's Digest, who have given their permission for this type of work to be done.
I want to have the resulting tracks using MixDown back to 2 channel stereo in .WAV format but in 5.1 digital output in MP3 or MP4 format for all our cellphones that have MP3 players. If I can come up with my own arrangements of my own compositions, or my own arrangements of others' compositions that I have helped to "orchestrate", then this is the sound I need. Anyone with a digital home theatre system will appreciate the forethought gone into creating something of this magnitude.

    Hi Ian,
this system has the design feature of discarding standard usenet quotes and
anything thereafter, but not writing usenet style would be confusing to any
other user of the miserable, bodged, offline feature of this here
re-invented messaging system. Consequently I'll try to beat the design issue
with a different quoting prefix ... just in case I'll re-iterate the main
point made up here: you can not uncook a stew.

  • Surround sound output from Y-adapter

    Hey guys,
I am going to be setting up a Mac mini media centre. I know the mini has an analog/digital out. The receiver I am hooking it up to unfortunately does not have Toslink, just composite. Is it still possible for me to get 5.1 from an analog y-adapter?
Anyone done this? I figure it'd work, but I want to try and figure out any issues prior to purchase.
    Thanks.

In addition, a Y-adapter would have no practical use in that scenario. It would only split the stereo signal to dual stereo signals, not give you more "channels."

  • How to get Surround Sound 7.1 output out of all speakers?

Hi all...   I moved my system from Ubuntu recently and am having one small issue that I haven't been able to solve; everything else is working great and I'm about ready to move all of my other systems to Arch also, once I've solved this.  :-)
The one nagging issue I'm having is with sound.  This is a fiber digital connection that was working on the ubuntu install and a couple other distros I play with, but I haven't been able to find the issue in Arch.  Sound comes out of only the front-left and front-right speakers.  When I do the sound test, it lists all of the other 7.1 speakers, but no sound out of anything other than the front 2 speakers.  I noticed that I don't have an asound.conf, so I was wondering if that might help or if it's not needed with Arch?
    sound.conf contains the following:
    alias snd-card-0 snd-hda-intel
    alias sound-slot-0 snd-hda-intel
    /proc/asound/cards contains:
    0 [Intel ]: HDA-Intel - HDA Intel
HDA Intel at 0xf9cf4000 irq 22
    arecord -L shows:
    default:CARD=Intel
    HDA Intel, ALC1200 Analog
    Default Audio Device
    front:CARD=Intel,DEV=0
    HDA Intel, ALC1200 Analog
    Front speakers
    surround40:CARD=Intel,DEV=0
    HDA Intel, ALC1200 Analog
4.0 Surround output to Front and Rear speakers
    surround41:CARD=Intel,DEV=0

    HDA Intel, ALC1200 Digital
    IEC958 (S/PDIF) Digital Audio Output
    null
Discard all samples (playback) or generate zero samples (capture)
If anyone has any pointers, it would really be appreciated.  I'm begging for help.  ;-)

Thanks!  - those were 2 of the url's I've been looking through (in addition to the alsa faq, some stuff on the ubuntu, gentoo and xbmc forums).
I've setup an asound.conf and am about to give that a test.
    --edit--
Well, that didn't solve it.  I'll have to keep trying.  :-(
If anyone has managed to get surround sound working out of more than just the front 2 speakers, I'd love to hear how you did it.  ;-)
Mine is connected via digital, so it's beginning to look like I need to set spdif up somehow.
But... Now that I think about it, it 'should' be pretty easy since all I basically need is for it to force all raw audio out the fiber digital connection since the receiver actually handles all of the decoding (dang....it worked great in Ubuntu, now if I can just figure it out in Arch). LOL
    Thanks!!

  • Laptop rear speakers muted. Not showing up in alsamixer.

This is my second time around with Arch.  I had this same problem before but I was able to Google the issue no problem, but I can't for the life of me find the right combination of keywords this time around.  I'm sure someone will come in here and take 3 seconds to find it...
Anyways, like the title says.  My rear speakers aren't playing any noise.  Last time I am pretty sure that I just had to type in some command and then go into alsamixer to turn the volume up on the rear speakers, but when I use the 'alsamixer' command I can only see the "master" channel.  I also installed pulseaudio but found nothing in the settings.
HP pavilion computer, using ALSA and and pulseaudio.  I'm not sure what other information would be needed.  If I there is some command I need to type in to list some info about my hardware/drivers please let me know and I will do that for you.  I know this is an easy fix, and I did try to Google it myself before coming here.  I just couldn't find anything that fixed my issue this time around.
    Thank you.

  • Can't get Surround Sound to Work [Xonar DS]!

My speakers and such work fine by themselves, but only the front left and front right speakers will work in Premiere Pro when I have them set to surround sound.
I've checked in Windows Control Panel and the speakers are set up and work as 5.1.
I've been through all the settings in the "Xonar DS Audio Center" control panel and everything is set up the same.
The Xonar ASIO settings are at 32-bit with a 10ms latency.
    [specs]
    Windows 7 Ultimate
    Premiere Pro CS6 (Creative Cloud)
    ASUS Xonar 7.1 24-bit 192kHz Sound Card
Under Preferences | Audio Hardware, Default Device only lists "Premiere Pro WDM Sound."
The ASIO Settings button shows my output speakers checked as "Speakers (ASUS Xonar DS Audio Device)."
I've tried the "Device 32-bit Playback" button checked and unchecked.
Under Preferences | Audio Output Mapping, it lists only two speakers as left and right: "Speakers (ASUS Xonar DS Audio Device) - 1" and "Speakers (ASUS Xonar DS Audio Device) - 2."
The sequence is properly set up as 5.1.
When playing audio, I can pan left and right, but nothing comes from the center or rear speakers. If I drag the little puck in the Audio Mixer to one of the rear speakers, it properly lowers the volume for the front speakers, but still I hear nothing from the rear.
    Help! Thanks!

Well, it previously had only "Premiere Pro WDM Sound" or "Adobe DV" listed, the former being chosen.
However, after updating my driver from 7.12.8.1792 (packaged) to 7.12.8.1794, the option "Xonar DS ASIO(64)" appears. Success, I think. Not so much.
[This adds options for 8 channels (L,R,Ls,Rs,C,Sub,Lb,Rb), of which all but the last two have area selections. The first two, L and R, have left and right button selections as well.]
Unfortunately, whenever I choose the Xonar option and click OK, nothing changes. I go back to Audio Output Mapping and it's defaulted back to "Premiere Pro WDM Sound." Ideas?
    Thanks.

  • No Surround Sound out the optical port to my receiver?

    In lieu of this post:
    http://forums.creative.com/creativelabs/board/message?board.id=soundblaster&thread.id=270
What to people do that want a 5. experience out of a game, but don't want to go buy an entire second set of speakers to plug into all those mini-jacks in the back of the card to get 5. game sound? Is there some other layer or 3rd party drivers that took upon the task of converting the EAX stuff to the optical audio jack? Obviously it can support it, as I can fire up a DVD and play it in Windows Media Player and it sends a 5. signal out the optical jack to my receiver. It's just the games which fail heinously.
I'm using the "XFTI_W7DRVBETA_US_2_7_0007" driver currently. I've tried flipping things on and off, but never get a surround sound output out of that optical jack. I find it hard to believe I'm the only one that 'only' wants to use the optical out to a receiver as my sole source of sound. I was wondering what solutions were available?
Edit: I suppose it would be helpful to know I have an X-Fi Titanium.

Thanks much. I downloaded the 2 apps for future use.
Now I'm stuck on the fact that it will 'not' let me install drivers anymore. It keeps telling me I don't have a supported device. I do have a supported device, and I 'did' have the drivers successfully installed and working at one point, but now it won't let me install them. That doesn't make 'any' sense to me at all.

  • Cannot get 5.1 Surround Sound with optic fiber cable (Mini Toslink)

I have a Macbook Pro (Early 2011 Model) and after spending lot of time I figured out that the best way to get 5.1 surround sound output is to connect the MBP to the AV Receiver with the optic fiber cable (Via Mini Toslink Adapter). So after reading all the articles and forums on it, I went and purchased the cable and adapter and hooked up my MBP to my AVR 142 Harman / Kardon receiver.
But now I’m still not able to not get Digital 5.1 surround sound!! Additionally, in Audio MIDI Setup (under Utilities), I can only select Stereo from the drop down menu, as "5.1 Surround" and every other option, such as 7.1 surround are grayed out.
Is there anything that I have missed out in the setup? or do I have to try some other method to get the surround sound??
    Please Help!!

ATV definitely supports AC3 DD 5.1... etc, but definately not through AirPlay, only streamed through the inet.
I also found, in the case of Netflix, that the AC3 is preserved in the highest bandwidth mode but not available in the lowest. (frankly i did not test the intermediate bandwidth)
I was quite pleased with the sound and picture from Netflix.
I am not so patiently waiting for AirPlay to support AC3 DD or DDPlus because I record my home video in %.1 surround (AVCHD) and can preserve it through Final Cut Pro and DVD or Red Laser, but cannot use the intended cable replacement (AirPlay) to play them.
    Bummer..
I think/hope if more people request surround sound via AirPlay Apple may then follow through on this otherwise good idea.

  • Surround sound confusion

So what's the story with surround sound?
I have recently bought a Samsung HT-E5500 surround system and have connected the BT Vision box (black one) to it using HDMI. (I have an optical cable at home but haven't connected it.)
I have set the output to 'surround sound' in the BTV menu but I only hear output from two front channels (left and right) when watching TV. I haven't yet tried On Demand films.
I am aware that Freeview HD broadcasts do contain the required data for surround sound, but as BT Vision does not output Freeview HD, only SD, does BTV output the surround channels?
    So the questions are:
(give me the answers in simple terms)
Do TV programmes and films (i.e. On Demand films) watched through BT Vision support 5.1 surround sound output?
If not all channels/films are broadcast in surround, how do I know which ones ARE in surround and which ones are stereo only?
As I currently only have two channels working while watching BTV, what do I need to do to activate the other audio channels? ( I have already set up the option in the BTV menu). Do I need to use the optical cable from BTV box to surround system? Do I need to enable anything on the surround system?
    Thanks!
    Bob

Only HD movies contain a full 5.1 soundtrack depending on how long ago they were made. Note that the new software doesn't yet support 5.1, but if you  have a setting I'm guessing you're still using the old software.
Most SD content, whether that's movies or just standard Freeview, has surround sound encoded into the stereo soundtrack. This doesn't have the full range of proper 5.1, but it's not bad. In order to hear it you will need to enable the Prologic decoder on your surround system (assuming it has one, but it would be a rare beast that hasn't).
In terms of cabling, for full 5.1 you will need the optical, but Prologic surround can be sent over anything.

  • The rear speakers get surround sound but they sound like a pillow is over t

To start off I have a "Audigy 2 ZS"
After many hours of constant problems with my sound card I finally have got the Surround sound working on my games and machine though the rear speakers sound like, literally, their muffeled by pillows. I can get sound in to them finally but their so muffeled it just irratates me more then when the werent working originally. Yes I do have the updated drivers.
I thought this was my speakers at first, I have Logitech THX Z-5300e 280 Watts RMS 5. Speakers, so I returned them and exchanged them but the problem still exists.
Im at wits end and so far my experience with this sound card is rocky at best
If anyone has any ideas please help me out.
    Pentium Duron .2 ghz
    256 mgs of ram
    Geforce 2 Video card
    Audigy 2 ZS
    Windows XP

I fixed part of my problem.
I must have hit the rear wire or something because it was loose and I plugged it all the way back in and now my surround works how it should.
However the rear right speaker doesn't work right. I don't know why but it's like someone has the volume specifically turned down on it (like literally 98% down) only and the other speakers are normal.
However if I move the rear right speaker (on the subwoofer) an dplace another speaker in it's place, it will work fine. So it's not so much that speaker as it seems to be specifically the subwoofer connection for the rear right speaker.

For more information about 5.1 Surround Sound in iTunes, you may find the following article helpful (it is primarily aimed at Mac users, but the settings in Windows should be similar):

  • No sound from Rear Speakers - Center Channel Works F

I have a Windows Vista (brand new) system, with an X-Fi XtremeMusic card on board. Connected via the digital i/o dongle is an Onkyo TX SR-605 receiver, which in turn is hooked up to a 5. Polk Audio speaker setup. The 5. setup works fine?for all other components on the receiver. That said, it doesn't seem that there's much or any sound coming from the rear speakers when it's playing the computer setup. When I use the THX speaker setup utility it correctly identifies the right, left, center, and sub, but then announces that the front right and left speakers are the rear right and left speakers. Any idea how to fix this?

All the sudden I got the similar problem with Logitech Z-5500 with optical out...test with THX Consol and no sound coming out of rear Speakers instead front R and L.......update to latest driver but problem remains....

  • Adjusting volume for rear speakers in a 5.1 surround sound system

    Hi,
I have a basic Logitech X-540 5.1 sound system spakers. I am trying to point the rear speakers to where I'm sitting, but I cannot hear much from them except in certain songs or videos. I was wondering if there's any way that I can adjust the volume on the rear speakers so that I can hear them more?
    Thanks in advance.

Songs are stereo, so use the best upmixing method.
Notice the "1" for rear left & right - change that to e.g. 1.5, to be louder.
