PC system recommendations

I'm currently running the Adobe Creative Suite Production
Studio Premium on an IBM ThinkPad T42. I'm also hoping to add a 3D
application soon - so obviously my current hardware set up is 'less
than ideal.' I'm used to working on a G5 dual 1.8, however
everything at this company is PC based so I'm trying to put
together a system recommendation that can handle the workload
(again, knowing very little about PCs.) Any
recommendations/thoughts/suggestions?

Any current machine will handle it.
A dual-core CPU is certainly best these days, either an Intel
Core-Duo,
a Core2-Duo, or an AMD X2 Dual-Core. My new home machine has
an AMD
64-bit X2 Dual-Core, though the 64-bit is fairly useless as I
don't
believe any applications I use are 64-bit native.
Anything 2 ghz or above should be fine, even though the chip
makers are
trying to pull away from such ratings.
Definitely get at least 1gb of RAM if not more. The more, the
better.
2gb of RAM should be sufficient these days. A lot depends on
the OS too.
I wouldn't get Vista yet if you can avoid it, not only due to
its
'newness' but because of the much larger system specs it
requires. Plus,
not sure what Adobe's status on their product compatibility
with Vista
may be. I know Captivate 2 has problems.
A video card with at least 128mb of RAM. 256+ preferred.
Watch
'integrated' cards as I'm not sure how much RAM they can
address in the
main system, and whatever RAM they can access is removed from
the pool
available to the OS itself. OTOH, if you get a system with
2gb of RAM,
an integrate card may work just fine.

  • System recommendations logs

    Hi Experts,
In our landscape System recommendations has implemented recently.
The Job will run every Wednesday. we are checking the logs from SLG1.
But we are unable to point out those warnings.
can some one please help us on this, how to resolve the below warnings.

    Hi Lee,
Does it happen for new data (new logs) as well ? Or does it happen just for the older logs which were there until unicode conversion ?
We worked on a similar problem (however that was not related to or was not there as a result of unicode conversion) where we were facing same issues related to central logs/remote system logs in sm21. Issue was only in production where apart from CI we had several apps server.  We referred some notes as well but right now I wasn't able to find out that troubleshooting folder I had saved.
In the meantime, you try to search sap notes or can try to open a ticket with sap too.
    Thanks

  • Change Management - System Recommendations

    Hello experts,
I've installed Support Package 27 on SAP Solution Manager 7.0 EhP1. This version provides the function "System Recommendations", it's a part of Change Management. If I choose in System Recommendations the Solution Manager itself, it works fine and shows me all important notes. But if I choose another system, the following message appears:
"Currently no data specific to this technical system has been calculated. You can add it to the automatic check by pressing the Settings link and you can also press the Refresh link for an immediate result."
Pressing the button "Refresh" has only the effect, that the sand clock appears ... nothing else happens
Any idea or a solution for this problem?
    Thanks and best regards,
    Max Power

In the meantime I found the following error:

  • Final cut studio system recommendations

i cant find the system recommendations for final cut studio, only final cut studio 2.
i have a 1.6ghz single-core Powermac G5 with 768mb memory that works well enough with final cut studio. i wouldn't mind making it as fast as possible and was wondering where i can get good but cheap memory and how i could further boost my machine.
    help anyone?

RAM can be had from Crucial.com
Don't know anything about processor accelerators. You might check over in the hardware section of the forum. Lots of smart people over there to offer advice.

  • System Recommendation for PC "Newbie"

    Hello:
I'm currently taking the 9i OCA/OCP course and thought that I could use my OS X Mac at home to run the developer version. I see that it only runs on OS X Server, so now I need to purchase a PC...
Any minimum system recommendations or things to watch out for? Would I be able to run it on a portable or would that be foolish?
    Thanks.

As a Windows person, I like Windows 2000. You might like the XP Pro interface as it is a little more graphical than the Windows 2000 interface. Don't forget you'd need Windows XP Pro Edition, not Home Edition.
Windows NT is probably a little old is probably next in line to be desupported by Oracle and Microsoft.

  • ISE 1.2 VM file system recommendation

    Hi,
According to http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/security/ise/1.2/installation_guide/ise_vmware.html#wp1056074, tabl 4-1 discusses storage requirement for ISE 1.2 in VM environment.  It recommends VMFS.
What are the implications when using NFS instead?  Is this just a recommendation or an actual requirement?
At the moment, we use Netapp array which uses NFS for all vApps.  It will be difficult to justify a creation an additional FC HBA just for this one vApp.  Please explain.
    TIA,
    Byung

    If you refer to
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/security/ise/1.2/installation_guide/ise_vmware.html
    It says :
    Storage
    •File System—VMFS
We recommend that you use VMFS for storage. Other storage protocols are not tested and might result in some file system errors.
    •Internal Storage—SCSI/SAS
    •External Storage—iSCSI/SAN
We do not recommend the use of NFS storage.

  • New system recommendations and suggestions

I am in the market (finally) for a new system, and even though I had issues with my old MSI 975X Platinum PUE at the end, it served me well for over 6 years, so I'm pretty much sold by MSI.
This is what I am looking at right now, but I would like to know if there are known issues with the compatibility/functionality of these components:
    -MSI Z87 MPower MAX
    -Intel i7-4770K CPU
    -Corsair Vengeance 16G (2x8G) RAM - (I may bump this to 32G)
    -MSI GeForce GTX 760 2G DDR5 Video
    -UltraX4 Extreme PSU
    -Win7 Ulitmate 64Bit
I will also be getting another smaller (500GB) HD to use just for the OS and my VMWare items in addition to the 1.5T and 1T drives I have now.
Another question I have is that the CPU comes with a stock fan.  Will this be sufficient or should I be looking at something else?
And being that my budget is around $1000 - $1200, is there something better you can recommend that will match the performance of what I selected?
    Thank you

For your needs, I see no reason for 32GB of RAM. You don't want to mix two kits anyway even if they have the exact same part numbers. They may be from different batches or even have different chips on them. On my Z87, I am only using 8GB of RAM and having no problems.
Great choice on that CPU cooler! All my rigs have 9900's on them. They do outstanding and have helped me attain some impressive OC's using them.
The Corsair HX850W is what I use as well. Excellent PSU!
Probably one port is DVI-s and the other is DVI-d? The BIOS will probably recognize the discrete card is installed and set the graphics automatically to PEG mode.
A word of caution though. The GTX 760 may need a Legacy VBIOS to work right out of the box. If that happens, a UEFI/BIOS update may help or the VBIOS will need to be flashed. The onboard graphics can be used in the meantime to get the flashing done and the GTX 760 taken care of if it needs it. That is why some of us recommended the GTX 6xx series. They usually don't have any problems out of the box.

    Hi,
Please identify what are the activities that were taking place which was consuming your space so rapidly.
Analyze if the same activities are going to be performed in future, if so for how many months.
Based on the comparision of present growth trend you can predict future trend and decide. Also analyze which table/tablespace is growing fast and what were its related data files and where are they located, you need to increase that file system to high level rather increasing all file systems sapdata1...4.
Based on gathered inputs you can easily predict future growth trends and accordingly increase your size with additional space of 10%.
You can increase your file system there is no limitation such, but you will face performance related problems. For this you need to create a separate tablespace and move the heavily growing table data files into that table space with proper index build.
    Regards.

  • I need audio system recommendations for my iMac.

I have a large iTunes library on my iMac and currently listen to it through a Yamaha receiver with two Cerwin-Vega speakers and an Infinity sub. Although the receiver is designed for surround sound, I just use the stereo mode for music. It puts out 130 watts per channel although I use it in a small 12 x 14 office in my home. I would like to upgrade my sound system for the Mac if there is something available that is just killer for this application.

Yes, a dedicated stereo integrated amplifier would have discrete electronic components, as opposed to the "chip" circuitry in your Yamaha surround receiver.  I myself use a Denon discrete integrated amplifier and it sounds far more lifelike and images far better than the Denon receiver it replaced.  There is a limit as to how far you can improve your sound though in that iTunes songs are recorded and played at less than CD quality and there is no way around that without directly ripping from CD's using a lossless format. So, to sum up, yes you have definite possibilities for improving your listening experience.  And I might recommend if you are interested in saving money that you research on http://www.audiogon.com for quality used components sold by other audiophiles who themselves are upgrading. I've purchased and sold on the site for years.  It's the eBay of audio only components.
And, Yes, to your Question 1.
    Hope this helps

  • Third Party POS System Recommendation For SAP IS-Retail

    Greetings All IS-Retail Guru,
Would appreciate your input on this. We are planning to implement SAP ( with  IS-Retail ) in our company and in the midst of replacing the legacy POS system.
Since we are in the lookout for a new POS system, we would like to get a 3rd system can integrate with SAP
( POS integration ) seamlessly with minimal effort/customization.
Appreciate if you can recommend potential vendors that fits the bill and if possible, the pros and cons of the vendors.
Looking forward to your input here.
    Many thanks in advance.

I will forward your posting to the responsible solution manager. He will get in conact with you and will give you an unbeatable offer for a POS solution.

    Yes, please look at

  • System Recommendations

    Hi Harm,
I've read this thread and have a few questions for a system I'm looking to build, please.
[Naturally, while I'm directing that towards Harm, I hugely appreciate advice from anyone else, too.]
I will mainly be running Premiere CS5 and the common related apps. My budget for everything excluding software is about $5,000 ($4,000 is okay too).
CASE: For a case, I'm not into contours, windows or lights. I like the clean, "business-like" look of the Lian Li PC-A77F you recommended, for instance -- though that's currently unavailable on NewEgg as I type this and I'm wondering if there's a reason -- such as it being discontinued for another model or something (or else I can just look elsewhere). It seems to provide plenty of cooling, and options for quieter fans. So, can we confirm this as the choice, please, or suggest a similar alternative? (Note that once I decide on the case, I may ask your advice on upgrading the cooling, including specifically for the GPU, which I notice the Lian Li PC-A77F supports.)
MOBO: ASUS P6X58D. I'm guessing that's a good choice that should require no further dialog.
CPU: i7, but then the question is 920, 930, 980x? I'm not an enthusiast and would normally never consider overclocking, but I see you recommend it. I will need you or someone to point me to how, but you say it's simple so that's fine. Just as long as I never risk it crashing and corrupting my OS. (Note that I read somewhere that overclocking requires slowing down the memory and it becomes almost a wash, but I don't know the details or how reliable that was.) As to cost, well, it becomes a question of where it hits the point of diminishing returns. If there really is a significant time difference when encoding, I'll pay for it. The time it saves me will be worth it. I'm not going to begin to try to guess how to quantify this, or figure this one out without your advice.
GPU: That will be the GTX-470, thank-you-very-much.
RAM: What I'm currently looking at is "Kingston HyperX 12GB (3 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) XMP Desktop Memory Model KHX1600C9D3K3/12GX Intel XMP Ready." I'll go with whatever you suggest, and will appreciate your advice on generally ballparking the performance difference between 12 GB vs 24 GB.
HARD DISK DRIVES: At your suggestion, I did a lot of reading and chose the Samsung SpinPoint F3 for my choice for hard drive. I will go with a total of five hard drives: one for OS/apps, one for swap, and three in a RAID-5 array for data.
RAID CONTROLLER: I have gotten unanimous advice not to use the on-board RAID, but don't yet have any suggestions for the controller card to get. I have had used LSI before and am told it's one of the best. I'd appreciate your advice.
PSU: I know I need "plenty." Would you care to make a recommendation? (If using the Lian Li PC-A77F, I believe mounting the PSU in the bottom is preferred. Would you agree?)
COOLING: Once the choice for case and mobo is made, I'd appreciate your advice on an aftermarket CPU fan if any and extra GPU cooling if any. I don't know that you'd suggest getting into water cooling for this system, and I assume I can handle quieter aftermarket case fans on my own.
BURNER: I'm planning on burning DVDs and CDs, and have not even begun to explore Blue-ray at all yet. I'm strictly producing business presentations. Do you suggest I get a BR burner, or just a standard DVD/CD burner? And would you care to suggest one?
    Thanks so much!
    Jay
[Note: I've edited this post to clarify at the top what my budget is "excluding software." -- Jay]

    Harm, Jay,
Thanks for the advice. Now I understand (at least I think, I do) the issues with the raid. (And I mistook the number of SATA drive limitation by the case with the limitation by the board .) I am not going to go for an external RAID enclosure this time, instead I will use the 5 HD solution (one for system, 4 for storage in a RAID 5 configuration) suggested originally by Harm.
    Thanks again,
    - Laci.
    Addendum:
Harm, My already purchased P6X58D MOBO has 6 SATA 3.0 and 2 SATA 6.0 ports. This is exactly enough for 2 burners, 1 eSATA port and 5 internal SATA HD (which I also have by now) - as you suggested earlier. This setup would work fine with the board (with the ICH10R chip).
In one of our earlier discussions, I was asking what (software/hardware) to use for RAID: Laci: "...I do not need any extra hardware for RAID 5 - the OS will do it for me..." Harm: "...No, use the on-board ICHR10 chip for that..."
At that point, I assumed that this chip would 'do everything related to RAID' (and not the OS or the CPU). However, in one of your recent postings, you wrote: "...But using the ICHR10 carries a penalty in terms of CPU load, which especially with AVCHD material, you want to avoid. That is where a dedicated hardware controller comes in (at a price). However, with the limited number of SATA ports on the motherboard, some of which are used by the burners, the OS disk and the eSATA port, you may no longer have a choice..."  Does that mean that
         1. even with the ICH10R chip, we would still lose CPU power?
         2. How severe is this load on the CPU?
And this is just a question to educate myself (I do not want to buy a RAID card at this point):
         3. Why are you saying that  "...you may no longer have a choice..."? Wouldn't a RAID card support more than my 4 HDs? Could they be internal HDs?
    Thank you again,
    - Laci.

  • Network management system recommendations

I have been looking at some network management systems such as SolarWinds, but I would like to kick the question back to the community to see what you guys recommend.
I am looking for a powerful, uniform, monitoring system that includes the following:
    1. Network device management (syslog, configuration management, inventory, device tracker [like CW CampusManager], etc.)
    2. Application monitoring (checking if hyperlinks are working, availability, etc.)
    3. Database monitoring (SQL query response times, etc.)
    4. QoS monitoring (jitter, delay, SLA, etc.)
    5. Alerts
Anything beyond this would be a plus.
I am looking for the "best" solution out there in terms of performance and features ...

NetFlow and IPSLA are different technologies.
Cisco NetFlow captures header information from actual IP traffic passing through router interfaces and reports on traffic usage, applications used, souce and destination of traffic, port and protocol used, ToS, DSCP, next hop and so on. Using NetFlow you can see who is using your bandwidth, what application is being used, etc.
Cisco IPSLA is a feature from Cisco that lets you measure the performance of a link using simulated packets and reports on jitter, latency, packet loss, Round-Trip time, packet loss, link availability, etc.
In short, NetFlow is used for bandwidth monitoring and traffic analysis of actual IP traffic that is passing through a link and IPSLA is used to measure how a link will perform when traffic passes through it.
Cisco supports both features - NetFlow and IPSLA.
IPSLA needs Cisco devices with IPSLA support at the source and destination ends with atleast IOS 12.3(14)T
NetFlow is exported as UDP packets to a flow analyzer tool - many tools use 9996 or 2055 for NetFlow export
IPSLA requires routers with Cisco IPSLA capability and IPSLA stats is collected via SNMP.
There are tools in the market which can monitor both. We at ManageEngine have NetFlow Analyzer, which supports NetFlow and IPSLA in addition to many more monitoring technologies like Cisco NBAR, WAAS monitoring, Cisco Medianet, etc.
Cisco NBAR is a deep packet inspection technology which analyzes data packets to report on application usage. NBAR can detect applications hiding behind well know ports or using random ports and you can also further use NBAR to define your QoS polcies.
If you need to know more on the software that can monitor these technologies, you can contact ManageEngine NetFlow Analyzer support at netflowanalyzer-support 'at' manageengine. com

  • Buying a new system - Recommendation?

    Hey everyone,
I am currently running Photoshop CS3 on a Core 2 Duo with 4GB of ram. I mostly use Photoshop for web editing.
I am currently looking at THIS system from DELL. How do you think this will perform with an upgrade from CS3 to CS5? Anyone have any experience with Photoshop on this particular system?
    Dell XPS 15
    Windows® 7 Ultimate, 64bit
    Core™ i7-740QM
    6GB Memory
    750GB 7200 SATA HD
    NVIDIA GeForce GT 435M 2GB

You are correct. However, one can use the full compliment of RAM on a 64-bit OS, and PS will appreciate that. The same holds true for PrPro and AE, as well, in their 64-bit form. I would definitely try to purchase more than the minimum to run the OS. Win7-64 does use quite a bit. With our older 32-bit OS's and programs, there was the 4GB limit (actually less, but the 4GB was the max for most MoBo's). Now, more can be used easily, and the 64-bit OS will use up more than, say XP-Pro needed, just to run things smoothly.
Also, above a 2x physical HDD setup, one is just separating things like the program, the OS, the Page File (can probably be a smaller size with Win7-64, and lots of physical RAM), the media storage (less access needed with stills, than with Video), and the Scratch Disks. I still feel that a 2x HDD setup will be better, than a 1x, and then more is simply "gilding on the lily."
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • UPL Activated in Managed Systems - Now What?

    Hi All,
First post for me in the UPL SCN. I believe I have correctly activated UPL data collection in our managed ABAP Systems. (Followed this link to do so: https://websmp104.sap-ag.de/~sapidb1000358700000427102012E)
I can run the sa38 report /SDF/UPL_CONTROL and it shows that is in on and working. Also report /SDF/SHOW_UPL will show me a bunch of returned data when I click execute. (these are being ran on the abap systems themselves).
My question is, now what? Where do I go inside solution manager to begin seeing if this data is being stored in the SolMan BW? Any insight, work center locations, reports or anything else will help.
    Thanks,
    Zach

    Hi Zach,
activation of UPL in managed system directly is only a workaround and a quick view.
You sahll do this activation from a Solution Manager system. Only then the UPL data will be
    transfered to Solman.
Here the UPL data will be
    - saved in BW cubes
    - aggregated to weeks , months and years
    - queries and APIs available to extract data
    UPL data is used in
    - Custom Code management usage reporting to analyse last usage of given custom codes
    - used in SEA tool to generate semi dynamic TBOMs
    - used in System recommendation to validate the impact of notes on exdecuted code
    - Reverse Documentation to analyse business processes
    - and many more
What you have done is the initial technical validation and activation.
But NOW you have prepared the baseline for holistic transparency about usage.
The journey of analysis and data mining starts now.
So it is not the goald to activate UPL. It is more to think about whta is your task and is UPL able to help you.
    regards

  • SAP WebDispatcher - system requirements & general questions

    Hi all,
possibly we would like to use the SAP WebDispatcher as reverse proxy for
our SAP EP infrastructure. Our main goal is to secure accesses from the internet to the sap ep by installing the SAP WebDispatcher in a DMZ.
Could someone give me information about the hardware/system requirements
    of the SAP WebDispatcher?
(supported operating systems, recommended CPU / Ram size, is a database necessary (if yes, which is supported))
Is it possible to restrict the requests to the SAP WebDispatcher from only
    specific IPs or IP-Ranges?
Just for my curiosity: what's the implementation language of the SAP WebDispatcher.
Are there any important security vulnerabilities known?
    Any help is really appreciated
    Regards Karin

    Hello,
Did you make some research in help.sap.com and sapservice.sap.com and the find button on SDN ? Much of the answers for your questions are there waiting for you to read them !
    Anyway,
The supported OS are the same as Netweaver (Linux, Unixes and Windows), both 32 and 64 bit.
The hardware requirements are low, but depends obviously of the number of http requests to process per second. For instance we use a Linux x86 biprocessor blade with 2 GB ram, for a moderate load and the cpu load is lower than 3 %...
There is no database for the sap web dispatcher. what would be its use ??
Yes it is possible to filter IPs or IP-ranges. Check icm/HTTP/auth_xx parameter and    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04s/helpdata/en/b4/9aa8862e714e6db8e74e48e5d3283b/frameset.htm.
For the implementation language, the release information for a web dispatcher 7.0 running on Windows 2003 tells me  :
    compiled on NT 5.0 2195 Service Pack 4 x86 MS VC++ 13.10
So I guess the language shoul be C++.
