PC to MAC again...

I read on here that Adobe will assign a new serial # for people changing platforms. I called Adobe and was told that I couldn't get a serial # because it's the CS4 version that I would have to upgrade to CS5. Is this correct or did I just get a rep that doesn't know what she's talking about? I don't see what the big deal is besides Adobe trying to squeeze more money out of customers.

No, absolutely not.
What's more, the Windows serial number will be invalid to cross over to a Mac upgrade. You'll need a special serial number, rather than just buying a Mac upgrade. Call Adobe customer service in order to request a "cross-grade", which involves surrendering the Windows license altogether and destroying the Windows version.

That seems pretty clear to me, but if you were somehow misled, I'm sorry. Note that the OP clearly wanted to UPGRADE from CS3 Windows to the current CS5 Macintosh.
A Cross-Grade is different from a straight platform swap in that it involves having a qualifying upgradable version for one platform and paying for the upgrade to the current version in the other platform. Adobe Customer Service then gives you a new serial number to input as the previous qualifying version, as your Windows serial number is absolutely platform specific and will not work for the cross-grade.
If you are out of the upgrade loop, or if you just want to swap an obsolete version without upgrading, then in both cases you are Severely Out of Luck.

Open the Sharing pane in System Preferences. If the Computer Name is not set, enter a name. You may first have to click the lock icon in the lower left corner and authenticate to unlock the settings.

My first advice is "Back up the device, then have it replaced." Second item of advice, "Don't forget your passcode."
One of the purposes of the lock button is to recover from certain software failures. Without the lock button, such a recovery is nearly impossible. My advice would have served you best when the malfuction first developed, not after you forgot your passcode.

I still don't know which version of OSX you have but assuming it's 10.7 or 10.8 .....
You need to press command-R (at the sound of the chime) to get into recovery, try that, if it does not work try command-option-R for Internet Recovery.

ITunes 11.0.2 is forcing me to sync apps from my iPhone into my Mac AGAIN. This is the new version of iTunes so there is no option to uncheck syncing Apps- how do I stop it from copying apps into my Mac?

I'm using iTunes 11.0.2 on my Macbook Air running Lion, to sync with my iPhone 5. With this latest release of iTunes, there's no option to uncheck syncing of apps. For a while now, iTunes have been working fine- it didn't sync apps from my iPhone to my Mac... until this morning. I only have Podcasts sync checked and every day, I just plug in my iPhone and click Sync and it worked great- it only copied my podcasts to the phone.
Today, I did the same thing- downloaded new podcasts, plugged in my phone, and clicked Sync. It backed up my data, copied my podcasts, and THEN it starts to copy all the apps from my iPhone into my Mac. This is the first time it's doing this- I'm sure the team removed that feature from this latest iTunes and I think this is a bug. I unchecked the Apps checkbox from Library in Preferences- I click sync, and again it starts to sync all the apps, AND the Apps checkbox becomes checked again.
I've restarted iTunes many times and rebooted, didn't work.

I have the same problem on both my iPad and my iPhone and it also started with iTunes 10.0.2.

Dead Mac AGAIN after Apple Repairs.

I'm back again with the same problem as my previous posts. Once again I have had my computer back from apple for repairs, once again Its been working fine, but now mysteriously will not start up. (Kernel panics on start up with not prior warning or anything seeming strange). Once again I've followed the usual steps, safe booting, re installation of the operating system, a complete rebuild with disk warrior and resetting this and that. no joy.
This is all getting a bit of a joke now. The machine has been in for repairs three times and has failed again each time within a number of weeks. I can't think of anything else to do other than try for a replacement machine. They obviously cannot locate the problem (they have replaced the hard drive, logic board, ramx2, monitor and have carried out three sets of 'Hardware Repairs' costing more than a new machine itself!) Surely I must now qualify for a replacement? I'm tired of speaking to technical advisers suggesting they know whats wrong and would like to carry out repairs just to go through the whole process not even three weeks later.
Does anyone have any suggestions/advice?
Unfortunately being a recent design graduate I cannot afford a new mac or much time without a functional machine.

Neil, since Apple have had three goes at it, and the same problem keeps cropping up, I would suggest calling Apple Customer Relations at 800-767-2775 and gently, but firmly, suggesting that it may be time for Apple to replace your machine. If the first level of responder gives you no joy, asked to be moved up the ladder till you get someone who has the authority to permit a replacement.

Other people have been having similar problems with songs over a number of days.
Depending upon what country that you are in (music can't be re-downloaded in all countries) then try deleting the incomplete tracks from your iTunes library and redownload them via the Purchased link under Quick Links on the right-hand side of the iTunes store home page on your computer's iTunes : re-downloading.
If you aren't in a country where you can re-download music or if they re-download in the same state then try the 'report a problem' link from your purchase history : log into your account on your computer's iTunes via Store > View My Account and you should then see a Purchase History section with a 'see all' link to the right of it ; click on that and you should see a list of your purchases ; find those songs and use the 'Report a Problem' link.

Associate your mobile number with your Apple ID, if you haven't already done so.
Sign out of iMessage on the Mac:
          Messages ▹ Preferences ▹ Accounts ▹ Sign out
and on the iPhone:
          Settings ▹ Messages ▹ Send & Receive ▹ Apple ID ▹ Sign out
Then, on the phone, tap
          Use Your Apple ID for iMessage
Sign back into iMessage on both devices and test. If there's no change, you may have to wait for a change in network conditions.

If Windows doesn’t install properly
Verify that you’re using an original, full version of the 64-bit version of Windows 7 Home Premium, Windows 7 Professional, Windows 7 Ultimate, Windows 8, or Windows 8 Pro.
Restart your Mac and hold down the Option key until one or more disk icons appear on your screen. Insert the Windows installation disc into the optical drive or insert the USB flash drive with Windows into a USB port on your Mac. Select the Windows installation disk icon, then click the arrow beneath it. Quickly press any key on your keyboard to start the installer. Follow the onscreen instructions to repair or reinstall Windows.

Purchase of Pages and Numbers for Mac, again?

I upgraded to Lion last night, it failed, went to the Apple Store, they did a clean install for me, I re-installed backup copies of my software and expected to go logon to the App Store and download Pages and Numbers, which I had purchased about 3 months ago and installed on a MacBookPro which was subsequently stolen.
The only purchase the App Store has on record for me is Lion. I am quite sure I have had only 1 Apple account. Must I purchase Pages and Numbers again?

Holding down the option key seems to only change the status of Lion, which I have installed, from "Installed" to "Install" (ie "Installable"). I am afraid that the App Store has 2 accounts for me and I'm not sure I can conjure up the older one!

Wiggler broken in After Effects CS3 for Mac, again!

I am a having the same problem as listed in this forum: http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.3bc4ba61. When applying the wiggler to a parameter key frames are made, but nothing changes. I tried deleting preferences, but it still doesn't work. Can someone help?

Funny that this gets reported again every now and then... Well, if the tool doesn't work, why not simply use the wiggle() expression? Should give you all you want and you can convert it to keyframes at any time you like just as well.

Been using windows too long, getting use to mac again

I have graduated high school, went to get a new mac, I haven't used a mac for many years. I'm following my high school major for video production. I wanna know if I should work on my video editing on a mac since I use my windows computer to make the videos. I use hypercam 3 OR camstudio for screen recordings on my videos. I mostly make World of Warcraft videos and like I said, I haven't used a mac in years, so if anyone can, help me out please. I'm still using my HP Pavilion, Windows 7, g6t-2000 Notebook PC 64-bit for my recording and gonna use my MacBook Pro with Retina display, Mac OS X (10.7.1), Video Production for my video editing and posting.

Apple has been moving away more away from the professional use market for their machines and focusing more on the consumer market for smaller devices.
The MacPro has been pulled from Europe and hasn't seen a upgrade in ages which has caused many video pros to move to Avid on Windows 7 towers instead

Also Apple has now moved to a annual OS X release cycle, which wrecks even more havoc on established workflows as developers of Mac software now have to maintain so many different versions for each OS X version. Whereas on Windows 7, it's supported as is until 2020, (Windows versions usually last a decade on average)
Also like 3D gamers, the Windows towers are more configurable with more hardware options, not so on the Mac where you cant' harldy find video card upgrades anywhere.
Apple also has been sealing up their hardware more, the Retina is non-user serviceable , not upgrade-able, so your stuck with the RAM and storage that came with the machine.
So ideally the Mac isn't as good as a long term professional choice for video anymore, however a laptop isn't ideal for doing video production anyway due to it's limited cooling and processors, due to battery capability and thin design.
The Mac can be used on the road of course, but the main workhorse will be the office/home tower and better longterm value and the future is Avid on Windows now unfortunatly.
It seems you already have the MacBook Pro, so your stuck with it but you can install Windows 7 in bootcamp and thus use Avid there to some degree and also enjoy OS X for personal use.
Better hurry to get a Windows 7 Pro disk/license, Microsoft is bent on Windows 8 confusion.

How do I restart my system into Mac OS X again?

So I just Boot camped my OS X Imac into windows 8 (using windows 8 pro 32-bit install disc) and all is well (except for the network drivers). But now the default operating system is set to Windows 8, everytime I restart it it restarts in windows 8. I've tried holding down the Alt key, and the shift key for safe mode straight from restart. Its becoming quite a problem that I can't reboot back in Mac again, please help?

Reboot, at the sound of the chime hold the option key down, when the boot manager appears select OSX
Read the documentation for Boot Camp, if you didn't see that then you missed other things as well.
