PC to Mac conversion

I changed from a PC to a Mac and the only songs that moved over into itunes are those that I copied from a CD. All of the songs that I purchased are not available now on my Ipod. Is the iPod video only going to work with the original PC to get those songs?

To authorize the songs just play them for a few seconds (in iTunes). iTunes should ask for your iTunes account information. Type that in an listen to a few songs for a few songs each. Now sync your songs.

  • Mac Conversion for CS5 Nightmare

After seeing the FCP Supermeet at NAB this year I decided to make the switch to CS5.5
I took the following Mac and made these changes to upgrade the Mac in prep for CS5.5:
Intel Mac 3,1 Quad Core 2008
    3Ghz
    Up'ed the Ram to 32Gb DDR2
Clean Install (Erase/Reformat) 320Gb 7200RPM Operating System Drive and installed 64 bit Snow Leopard
Installed updates to make Snow Leopard 10.6.7 version
Installed base driver for new Quadro 4000 for the Mac graphics card (because of Apple partial support you have to use an older graphics card to install this driver BEFORE you install the Quadro 4000 physically)
    Physically installed the Quadro 4000
    Installed the Cuda driver
Updated the Cuda driver to current driver using the Cuda Panel interface
Installed CS5.5 from DVD disc set
Have separate 750Gb 7200RPM media drives
Have an external 600mbps read/write dual channed 0 Raid array for media as well
    NIGHTMARE!
Can barely play 1 track of h.264 video/audio on an HDSLR timeline preset
Can barely play 1 track fo video/audio on XDCAM EX 720p 24fps that comes with Adobe CS5 Classroom in a Book
Playback stutters and drops frames, audio glitches even when Playback Resolution is dropped down to 1/2 and 1/4 resolution
I have used both the Playback with Mercury and GPU acceleration and Mercury Engine Software only - same resulting stuttering playback
Watching graphical CPU usage  when playing back single track and there seems to be plenty of headroom
Media is stored on drive and raid separate from operating system drive. Scratch drive is on drive separate from Op Sys drive
The only out of spec component with this Mac is I am missing "Core Audio sound card"
But I have seen all sorts of Mac laptops running multiple tracks of HD with all kinds of effects applied and they played/scrubbed through the composition like butter.
Any idea - this MacPro tower with 32Gb and Quadro 4000 cuda card should tear it up with CS5.5

All our other edit bays are still at 32bit Leopard and are on jobs.
We pulled this one and did the noted conversion that we are having the problems with.
I guess your testing is both good news - the 3,1 model CAN be converted over and do a decent job.
I assume your co-worker's 3,1 had a Quadro 4000 for the Mac graphics card?
No choppy dropped frames at 1/2 or 1/4 playback resolution?
Bad news is the only idea I have left is start all over again and see if that changes it.
One new item to note, this morning on boot-up, when opening the "About this Mac" panel, the internal bong sound starts going off repeatedly (as if you are holding down a keyboard key continuously. And the scroll bars could not be used - when you drag one down and let go, they pop back up to the top. The only way to stop this all was to re-boot.
Yesterday I re-installed FCP and that gave me back the codec for nanoFlash XDCAMHD 422 files (and probably a lot of other missing codecs).
I then opened up a matching sequence in Premiere CS5.5 and was able to import one of these files now - so your advice on the missing codec helped here.
But when I placed this file on the timeline - video only - no audio, it stuttered and dropped frames no matter what resolution used for playback,
Then, here is the most telling thing, I rendered the "entire workspace" (1 clip of video only - 20 secs in length) it took 2mins/52 seconds with all 8 cores maxing out to render it.
I then got the green line above the video in the timeline - AND STILL THE VIDEO PLAYED BACK STUTTERING AND DROPPING FRAMES EVEN THOUGH RENDERED!!
That seems to indicate I either have something wrong with the video card or it's drivers? And maybe this morning's boot up demonstrates that as well?
    What do you folks think?
Thank you so much Todd for making the extra effort to help with my problem.
So anyone following this issue, it appears to not be a CS5.5 issue - but an issue with my individual machine - or graphics card or driver. Would be interested to know what graphics card and drivers you folks were using for this test.

  • Q: If you never initiate iBooks for Mac conversion...

can you keep using (latest) iTunes under Mavericks to manage your ebook/pdf collections?
Reason I am asking is that I have also experienced the problems with new, standalone iBooks described here and elesewhere. I have since reverted back to Mountain Lion, but eventually I would like to use Mavericks until Apple fixes the iBooks for Mac. Never initiating iBooks conversion seems like the cleanest solution (if it works).
    Thanks!

Like you, I reverted back to Mountain Lion until a workaround was found.  It sounds like someone has done it now:
Re: Not impressed! No edit info, no library management!
I think this might work, but I'd be interested in hearing whether the simple step of stopping and deleting the bookstoreagent will work as a preventative measure.
Anyone willing to give it a try and share their experiences here?

  • Windows to Mac conversion of an IPOD

Can you convert a MS-Dos Ipod to Mac?

There is no such thing as windows formatted ipods anymore. All ipods are now HFS+; the ipod software in windows does a conversion for reading/writing to the HFS+ ipod.
For the older ipods, I think you can format them mac or windows. Use the ipod update software to do so.

  • Links in PDF don't work on Mac conversion?

I am working with Word 2011 on a Mac.
My document has linked TOC and many internal links and cross references.
When I convert to PDF, NONE of the work, whether I use "Save As PDF," Distiller, or Acrobat XI Pro...
    Is this a known limitation?
    Is there ANY workaround?
Or is Windows my only option to make the links in my PDF work the same as in my Word document?

If you use the MS add on for saving to PDF you might get the links. I use a PC, but as I understand it the PDF Maker that adds the links does not work on the MAC and never has. One MAC user (Phillip Jones) typically drops by and provides some insight into methods for getting the links, but I don't remember the solution (probably because I did not totally understand the solution as a PC user).

  • PC to Mac conversion problem on (older) ipod

My ipod was set up with a pc (about 1 1/2 years ago). Now that I'm running the latest OS on my ibook G-4, I want to erase it and reformat in mac. I also just bought a new nano. I plugged it into my ibook and everything works great. When I use the same cable to connect my older ipod (still running pc), I have the following problems:
The computer doesn't seem to "see" the old ipod.
I get a "do not disconnect message" on the old ipod. The battery doesn't charge with the cable (even though that same cable charges the new nano).
In fact, the battery on the Ipod seems to get depleted. I don't know if there is a cable compatibility issue, a port issue, the PC vs Mac issue, or all 3. I have a whole new audio library on my computer, so I'd be happy to dump the stuff on the Ipod, but how?
    Thanks,
    Mark

solved with help on another forum. OIder ipod requires older cable as well. Thanks all

  • PC to Mac conversion problem

Trying to help out a PC-to-Mac convert here. He has been using his iPhone with iTunes on a PC, which has since gone belly up. He just got a brand spanking new MacBook Pro! The problem happened when he hooked up his iPhone to his new laptop and the first thing that happened was his contacts on his iPhone were deleted. He does not want the same thing to happen to the rest of the contents on his iPhone. Any advice that I give this Mac newby?

Yes. He should use the backup from his PC to move the iTunes library to his Mac. That should contain all of the music, videos and apps he had previously been syncing to his PC.
This article may be helpful. http://www.macworld.com/article/146958/2010/03/moveitunes_windowsmac.html
If he did not make a backup of his PC and the drive from the original PC is unreadable, he may have a bit of a problem.

  • Maintaining keywords in PC to Mac conversion

I recently converted from PC to Mac; downloaded and installed LR4, and it quickly recognized my photos and photo folder structure.  Also, apparently each individual keyword has been imported.  However, 3 problems:
    1. no photos have keywords assigned to them
    2. the keyword nested structure (keywords within other keywords) did not transfer, so they are all listed alphbetically
    3. I don't see any history on the edited photos, so am not sure if I have originals (unedited) or edited.  If I have edited photos, can I go back and re-edit (non-destructive editing in LR)?

Did you transfer your catalog machine-to-machine or did you just reimport on the new machine? The former does what you want the latter would give you what you got...
Search your PC for the active and most recent LRCAT file and copy it to your Mac and open it. Depending upon where you store your images, you may have to repoint a few folders.

  • Quicken: PC to Mac conversion

It seems from many of the threads that the Mac version of Quicken is nothing like the PC version and that importing PC Quicken data into Mac version is problematic.
Looking for feedback on which scenario is preferable:
    1. Continue to run Quicken on PC through 12/31 then switch to a Mac friendly product;
    2. Purchase Quicken for Mac and import pre existing data.
All ideas welcome and thank you.

You are asking this in a forum about iWork Numbers so you may not get many responses.

  • PC to MAC conversions

To get right to the point, a cousin of mine has a MAC while I have a PC. I would like to send him files from Windows Word Processor, but he is having trouble opening them. Is there any way I can save my files in a different format so he can open them? Please, any help would be greatly appreciated.

The most obvious question is what word processor apps are you both using?
I'll take a guess that you're using Microsoft Word. If that's the case:
The Mac does have a few bundled apps that can read Word .docs, but since Word is pretty full featured not all elements will come through, and when you get the document back you might lose some of them (I don't know the exact list but I could see things like headers, footers, indexes, etc. all getting munged).
For full document compatibility, Word is available for the Mac. This means spending money, of course, but it will give you the best integration of the two systems.
Lastly you could save the document in a more universal format such as .rtf.
.rtf is well supported on both platforms and has a good feature set, so you shouldn't lose formatting or document features.

  • PC to Mac conversion, why aren't my word documents transferring?

I have loaded up all my documents, almost all made with microsoft office products for windows and put them on an external hard drive.  All the files were visible then I tried to copy them over to mac.  The files were no longer appearing in the window for my external hard drive when viewing on the mac.  So I'm pretty sure they are still on the external hard drive, just not visible.  What do I do to copy them over or convert if need be?

  • More Windows - Mac Conversion questions

    1) I currently use DVD X Copy Platinum to backup my DVD movies. Is there a similar program out there for Macs?
    2) I currently use CCleaner to help clear the junk that can accumulate on Windows systems. Is this even necessary for Macs and if so, what do you use to accomplish this?
    3) I don't use Adobe Photoshop too often so I didn't want to pay for the Mac version again. Anything that's similar and cheaper? (or even free )
    Thanks for all the help!

    1) I currently use DVD X Copy Platinum to backup my DVD movies. Is there a similar program out there for Macs?
There aren't currently any packages sold legally in the US, if that's where you are, that can copy commercial (i.e. copy-protected) DVDs. Flip4Mac is working on a package called Drive-In that will legally copy copy-protected DVDs so a Mac. If you're outside of the US where backing up copy-protected DVDs is legal, just do a web search for "Mac OS X DVD Rip" and you should find a lot of information.
    2) I currently use CCleaner to help clear the junk that can accumulate on Windows systems. Is this even necessary for MacS
It's not necessary since there's no registry in Mac OS X as there is in Windows (the Windows registry is primarily what CCleaner works on).
    3) I don't use Adobe Photoshop too often so I didn't want to pay for the Mac version again. Anything that's similar and cheaper? (or even free )
There's Gimp, if you don't mind running X11.

  • Problems with CD Spin Doctor (Mac) conversions to iTunes 10.3

I have been converting all of my old vinyl to CDs for well over a year using CD Spin Doctor 6/Toast 10 to download, filter and edit the tracks.  Then I would "Send All Tracks to iTunes" in MP3 format.  Up until this week, I could play back each track in iTunes (10.3.1) exactly they way I had edited it.
Now, after the tunes are sent to iTunes and try to play them back, all I hear is the raw, unedited audio for the duration of the edited track time instead of the "correct" audio.
I have reinstalled both CD Spin Doctor 6/Toast 10 and iTunes 10.3, but the problem remains.  I want to try to download iTunes 10.2.8(?) for Mac, since I did not have the problem using that version, and I suspect that but I cannot find that old version download for macs.
I can hear the proper edited audio in Spin Doctor, but not in iTunes.
    Help!

I have Titanium 11 and the most recent Spin Doctor - as of yesterday (auto update), and a mb pro with Mountain Lion.
iTunes (most recent) was working great, no problems. Then I installed Toast Titanium 11 and began using Spin Doctor. The interface is great, and it imported my .aiff files fine....but when I saved my working file as the native Toast format....the file wasn't there! I tried twice - no file! when I save as an .aiff file the file is there but no song separations. Just the long .aiff file. And when I play the tracks the arrow doesn't move but the track keeps playing and I can't pause it, so it keeps going.
Then I got frustrated and quit SD, I booted iTunes and got the error 'The iTunes library (name) is locked and you don't have the permissions to change the files' or something like that! This didn't happen until I installed Roxio....for only one hour!
    Anyone else??

  • Preserving hyperlinks in Word to PDF Acrobat (MAC) conversion

Recently purchased Acrobat XI to convert rich text Word documents into PDF files that can contain live hyperlinks embedded in text.  Specifically, I want to be able to include a name of an organization in the PDF version of the file so that if a reader clicks on the group's name, a browser will open the embedded URL associated witht he group's name.  This feature worked fine the first day after purchasing Acrobat XI.  However, a few days later I received a notice to update Acrobat.  I just did so after discovering the feature described above was not working.  After completing the Acrobat update, the feature is still not working in the PDF version of the file.  What can I do to fix this?  Thank you.

    What is your Acrobat version?
    What exactly means "not working"?
