PC to Mac song transfer problem

I've looked through tutorials on this, but haven't found a good answer, one that is specific to my situation.
I have an iPod Classic which is currently synced with a Windows computer; itt has 60GB worth of songs on it. I want to transfer all of those songs to a Mac, which already has a large amount of music on it -- which I absolutely need to keep intact. From that point on, I want to have the iPod sync with the Mac.
This is sort of a two-part question:
-How do I do this?
-How do I do this if I don't have access to the PC that the iPod is currently synced with? (Most of the tutorials cover this situation -- where I can go back, rearrange the music library, put the iPod in disk mode, etc. But still -- even those tutorials don't cover my specific situation, as mentioned above.)
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

when i was trying to transfer stuff from my pc to my mac, when i tried to initiate it on the mac, it was REALLY slow. when i initiated it on the pc, it went very quick. i did mine via firewire but was surprised that speed seemed to depend on which computer the transfer was initiated on. maybe try starting the transfer from the mac and see what happens?

  • Mac video transfer problems..

I've scrolled the forums but most people that are having my problem appear to be Windows users and also having little success by the looks of it. Therefore I wondered if maybe my problem was answered a little easier by Mac users. I have endless music video's/videos on disc and a few on the computer. I've managed to use the iTunes converter to get a couple on my iPod but only in video, not with sound. The sound is lost in the conversion because the converted copy iTunes also has no sound. I've looked at settings in iTunes and the iPod but it hasn't made a difference. Any suggestions welcome!

    Nevermind..."handbrake" sorted it out.
thanks to the person who wrote of it!

Okay, Transfer files from one to another mac via BlueTooth File Exchange . the grouping of files were 80gb of mp3 files being pulled from a external drive being sent to my other mac's external drive as it prepared the file it ran for a period of time after a while it said out of space although it never even sent one file to the other computer it filled my hard drive of the computer hosting the external drive of files now i can't locate the source of nearly 40+ gb of wasted space can someone help?

Hi, Michael. Why not just connect both external drives to the same Mac and forget about BlueTooth?

  • Song transfer problem

I'm having trouble transferring a song from iTunes into Garage Band.  After following the instructions, I see the song in the Garage Band documents window in iTunes, but it does not show up in Garageband "Copy from iTunes" after a sync.  It's an m4a file. So then I created a song in GarageBand, and exported it to iTunes.  I see it there in the Garage Band documents window.  But when I look in Garage Band on the iPad and try to copy it back in, it does not appear in the Copy from iTunes window.  I'm using iTunes on Windows.

I tried WAV and it didn't work either.  Searching more deeply, I found another thread on the same subject. It seems that the method given in the help file for importing from iTunes to GarageBand on iPad is actually not implemented.  See https://discussions.apple.com/message/13228478#13228478 Some workarounds can be found there.  The easiest thing seems to be to just record analog using either an iRig or just play the song from your computer speakers into the iPad mic.  Of course, that's pretty slow, but for making a short loop it's ok.

  • Moved from PC to Mac cannot transfer songs to ipod

I have a 20GB Click Wheel ipod which I have been using on a PC with XP. I have now moved to a Mac G4. I have downloaded itunes 7 and loaded my songs via back up discs on the Mac and sorted my playlists. When I try to synch my ipod no playlists or songs transfer although itunes does find my ipod. My ipod is formatted for Windows but apparently that should not make difference.
On reading I have seen that anything bigger than 4GB's won't transfer. I have 1,503 tunes in various playlists totalling 6.03GB. If I compress my library as suggested it will not only take forever but I will then have 2 copies of each track plus I am not sure if it will compress it enough to synch.
I have tried restoreing my ipod to factory settings but get a message saying: 'cannot be restored because it contains files that are in use by another application'.
Short of buying an new ipod which I cannot afford has anyone any ideas how I can synce my ipod?

Hope the following helps, otherwise, it can be a bad hard drive
    For Mac computer
    1. Open the disk utility, hope your iPod appears there (left hand side), highlight it
    2. Go to Tab “Partition”, click either “Delete” or “Partition”, if fails, skip this step and go to 3
    3. Go to Tab “Erase” , choose Volume Format as “MAC OS Extended (Journaled), and click Erase, again if fails, skip it and go to 4
    4. Same as step 3, but open the “Security Options....” and choose “Zero Out Data” before click Erase. It will take 1 to 2 hours to complete.
    5. Eject your iPod and do a Reset
    6. Open the iTunes 7 and click “Restore”

When I put a burned cd from one Mac into another Mac, song titles do not show up! I have to enter them manually! My CD player reads the titles that i on the cd; how can I get my Mac to do so?

The problem is that I burned these CD's myself from music that I added from my personal collection to iTunes. The INFO is ON the CD's (it appears perfectly when I put the CD in my Numark mixer...so I know the info is on the CD), but for some reason, my MAC PRO will NOT read the info on the burned CD when I place the CD into the MAC PRO. The CD was burned on a MAC that I no longer own. But there HAS to be a way to transfer songs from a burned CD with the INFO that is on the CD burned with iTunes.
    PLEASE HELP!

IMOVIE/IPHOTO TRANSFER PROBLEM QUESTION... HELP HELP HELP!!!
much like the email above, i am having trouble importing movies --all taken with my same nikon camera and uploaded to iphoto-- from iphoto08 to imovie08. i did a software update today and half the movies i wanted from iphoto, somehow, ended up on imovie. not the half i need to work with, by the way. just came back from christmas with the family. the first time my dad has seen my son. the first time my wife has seen my dad. lots of pictures. my dad wants copies. i got great ideas about making him a DVD... in imovie, i choose, "import movies", follow the steps, create a new event AND... no movie clips show up in my new event... BUT, when i click "mac HD" on my desktop and go the "imovie events", i see the movies is just supposedly imported to imovie as files and can watch them. doesn't help me much when trying to create a movie to send to my dad. no video is played in imovie. HELP HELP HELP!!! i went so far as to trash my 15 movies from iphoto because i thought perhaps the computer was seeing them as photos and not movies. right now my vacation movies are on my desktop. how can i get them to show up in imovie and start my project? HELP HELP HELP!!!

I think you have set your iPod to an option which everytime you connect it to itunes, it will delete all songs on it and replace it with songs currently in your library. What you need to do is click on the ipod on the sidebar, and on the bottem of the new page click the tick box that says "Manually manage music and video". That way you can delete old songs from your computer and they will stay on your ipod everytime you connect it. Hope that helps ^_^

  • Mac Media Transfer Error 208

    Hello,
I just got an N95 which I have updated to the latest firmware. I have a 2GB SanDisk card inside.
I've used the Mac Media Transfer software to browse my device and copy to iPhoto.
Things get strange when using the music sync. It's worked on only a couple of occassions. Most of the time it thinks about it 'preparing to transfer' and then stops with an error 208!!
I was wondering what this meant?
If there is no memory card it will sync fine so I think it may be the card.
I've formated the memory card and Nokia Maps runs fine from it.
I keep all my media on an external hard disk but iTunes has no problem playing from here and the n95 transfers to iPhoto fine through this.
    I've got an iBook G4 Mac OS X 10.4.10 (8R218)
    N95-1 firmware 12.0.013
    Any ideas??

Sounds like a bad file that's being hit by the transcoding process, but not without the memory card because the file wouldn't fit on the device in that case.
I can suggest you to upgrade to NMT 1.3 Beta(if you are using old version) otherwise you have to try finding the bad file.
Start tranfer with 1 file, then add more and more until it breaks again.
Please THANK me by clicking on the ****WHITE STAR** ( Giving KUDOS) the big GREEN BOX to your LEFT .
It will help me to serve you better !!!!!
    Thanking You

  • New to MacBook - slow LAN file transfer problem

My new MacBook is painfully slow when wifi-ing to my house LAN.
I turned in my old G4 iBook for a MacBook (2GHz C2D, 2GB, 10.4.9, all updates). I have a LAN that consists of a wired 1G Ethernet backbone (a Mini and a Powermac G5 are wired in) and a Snow AEB that provides 802.11g wifi access to the LAN. The wired LAN connects to a D-Link GB Ethernet switch so the wired systems can exchange files fast. The switch connects to a D-Link EBR2310 router that connects to a cable modem to ComCast. The router has the latest firmware (1.05, it's an 'A' version router).
The Mini, G5, and MB are static IPs on the LAN. The D-Link router passes out DHCP addresses >100, with addresses <101 reserved for static LAN IPs. I use static IPs for network reliability when recovering from power outages and other unforeseen glitches. The LAN has worked very well in this configuration, with fast file transfers among machines and good stability.
With my old 802.11g G4 iBook, I was able to watch DVDs that are stored on an external FW drive connected to the Mini. No stalls, no pauses, no dropouts - MenuMeters showed an average throughput of about 700KBytes/sec on the iBook when viewing a DVD. I used both VLC and DVD Player with good results.
With my new MacBook, I can't view my DVD files. 802.11g network transfer rates to the MB (indicated by MenuMeters and by Activity Monitor) vary rapidly from a high of about 1.1 MBytes/sec to 20 KBytes/sec. Movies stall, skip, etc.
Simple file copies from one system to another are also much slower with the MacBook - an average of ~100KBytes/sec vs. ~ 1.5 MBytes/sec with my old iBook. In short, the MacBook is dog-slow in file transfers from the other machines compared with my old iBook when using the wifi connection, with no change to the network infrastructure in going from the old laptop to the new. I would like to fix this.
My AEB is set up in bridge mode (simple access point) with WPA2 security. All three Macs are completely current with latest updates, as is the Snow AEB. The MB has 4 bars of signal strength. Slow file transfer problem does not change when moving the MB to or from the AEB.
Curiously, when I download a large file (like the Intel 10.4.9 combo update), the MB shows a steady ~800KBytes/sec download speed, with none of the speed variation it shows with file transfers from either the Mini or the G5. File transfers to/from the MB to either of the other Macs are very slow.
Both the Mini and the G5 have Airport cards: when I switch them from wired Ethernet LAN to wifi LAN, they transfer files between each other at ~ 2MBytes/sec - about what you'd expect from an 802.11g protocol. So the slow file transfer doesn't seem to be due to the AEB, it seems to be specific to the MacBook. When I connect the MB using its hardware Ethernet port, files transfer just as fast as the other systems.
I have tried these measures, without effect on the problem:
    - power off/restart of every component in the system;
    - changing the AEB to an open network mode;
    - changing the MB from static IP to DHCP;
    - toggling IPv6 on/off;
    - running no applications other than Finder on all systems;
Activity Monitor on the MB doesn't show anything sucking up CPU cycles during file transfers. I have plenty of RAM. The only thing I've changed in the network is the swap of the iBook for the MacBook.
Can anyone suggest what else I can try to make acquisition of this nice shiny MacBook a step forward, rather than a step back? Thank you!

    Hi,
Did you want to use the Live Migrations for that?
We recommend that you configure separate dedicated networks with gigabit or faster speed for live migration traffic and cluster communication, and these networks should be separate from the network used by the management operating system, and from the network
    used by the virtual machines.

  • Can someone help with my itunes song skipping problem?

I just got a new laptop and transfered all the songs successfully, downloaded the newest itunes and bought more songs from the itunes store and two days later, my songs started skipping. They aren't skipping as bad as i've read on the messages boards of other people, maybe one small skip in various songs.
    But...
Once I plug in my ipod to the usb port, will the skipping songs transfer onto my ipod and start making them skip as well? I checked my ipod and all the songs are ok, but I haven't attached my ipod since the songs started skipping.
Oh yeah...I've set Quicktime to safemode, I've read on these boards about switching to safemode...but nothing changed.
    What do you guys think?

Unless the problem is with the songs themselves, moving the songs to your iPod will not make them skip there. Before you sync the files in question you should play them with another medium (ie. "Windows Media Player"). This will help you pinpoint where the problem is.

  • Tiger Mail Transfer Problem to Leopard Mail

Using Tiger I was able to transfer my Mail account details (folders, e-mails, preferences, etc) to a secondary computer by simply copying the (home/library/preferences/com.apple.mail.plist) and (home/library/Mail folder) and it everything was exactly the same. Now that I have upgraded to Leopard, this is no longer possible. I am currently using Tiger Mail as my primary software and want to know if there is a way to export these settings to the Leopard Mail software?

You can copy mail preference file
    ~/library/preferences/com.apple.mail.plist
from the old to the new Mac without any problem.
If copying the old Mail folder into ~/Library/ doesn't work, copy that folder on the desktop. Open Mail, select import mailbox then Mail for OSX, choose the path ~/Desktop/Mail wait until the process is finished.

I can go in manually and give each folder within the home folder permission to access its self,
If you mean you are doing it by using "apply to enclosed items" button DON'T!
WARNING: NEVER use "apply to enclosed items" on ANY system created folders, your startup drive or the time machine drive. That includes folders like your Documents folder, your Desktop folder etc. use it only on folders you made yourself. system created folders often have hidden ACLs and using 'apply to enclosed items" on them will propagate those ACLs to everything inside and buy you a lot of trouble.
however this will take forever, it seems its not giving "useraccount" permission to access its self, I have to assign this through each folders individual permission setting

  • Windows 8.1 Installation On Mac - Got a Problem

Windows 8.1 Installation On Mac - Got a Problem
    Hi everyone,
I'v researched a lot about installing Win on Mac but I still got a problem when everything seems to be fine.
I got a Macbook Pro Retina, Late 2013 with OSX Mavericks and Bootcamp 5 installed on. And for installing windows, I already got an empty 8GB USB Drive formatted as MS-DOS (FAT32). And I've prepared Windows 8.1 ISO in my Downloads folder.
During my last effort, I opened Bootcamp Assist and then Chose the options: "Create Windows 7 or later version installation disk" and "Download the latest windows support software from Apple". Then I chose my Windows 8.1 ISO location and my destination. When it finished ,I was expecting it to run windows setup. But it closed and nothing happened
When I opened BootCamp again, only the first two options were available as before and "Install or remove Windows 7 or later" wasn't.
Now ,what do I have to do exactly? (NOTE: I'm not a professional. So please answer in a simple way. )
Should I restart the Mac and Hold OPTION while booting to run Windows setup? I was thinking about it but I thought I might screw it up all. So I decided to ask it here to be sure.
Any help will be appreciated by heart!

    Hi Alcatrax,
I would recommend following the steps in this link in order to help you complete your installation of Boot Camp:
Boot Camp Help: Install Windows on your Mac
    https://help.apple.com/bootcamp/mac/5.0/help/#apdecf0e4b6-b472-438d-881e-57c230b 1c250
    Prepare your Mac for Windows
Boot Camp Assistant helps prepare your Mac for Windows by creating a new partition for Windows and then starting the Windows installer. Optionally, you can install Windows using an external USB drive that contains a Windows ISO image downloaded from Microsoft and Windows support software.
Important: If you’re using a portable computer, connect the power adapter before continuing.
Insert an external drive into the USB port on your Mac and keep it inserted while you install Windows and Windows support software.
Open Boot Camp Assistant, located in the Other folder in Launchpad.
Select the option to install Windows, select other options you need, then click Continue.
Here are the other options you can choose:
If you want to install Windows from an external USB drive and you have a Windows ISO image, select the option to copy the image to an external USB drive. If this option isn’t available, your Mac doesn’t support installing Windows from an external USB drive.
If you haven’t already downloaded the Windows support software for your Mac, select the option to download it. In a later step, you’ll install the Windows support software on your Windows partition.
Follow the onscreen instructions for the options you selected.
When you’re asked to create a Windows partition, specify a partition size. If you have multiple hard drives in your computer, you can select a different hard drive and create a single partition on that drive, so that the drive is solely used for Windows.
Note: You can’t resize the partition later.
If you need help determining the best size for your Windows partition, refer to your Windows installer documentation. For Windows 8, create a partition that is at least 30 GB.
In a later step, you’ll format the Windows partition.
If you are using an installation disc for the 64-bit version of Windows, insert it into the optical drive in your Mac or the external optical drive. Otherwise, keep the external USB drive with the 64-bit version of Windows inserted.
    Click Install.
Boot Camp Assistant creates the Windows partition, restarts your Mac, then opens the Windows installer.
Thanks for being a part of the Apple Support Communities!
    Regards,

  • ITunes 7.2 Problem: Song Order Problem

    Equipment Specs:
    IPOD -- First Generation, 1 G size, Firmware ver # 1.1.5
    ITunes -- Ver # 7.2.0.34
    Problem
I recently updated to the above version of ITunes. I also recently reset/erased all my songs (no podcasts or nothing else)from my IPOD.
I then reloaded just songs to my pod using the drag and drop method from the music file. I then re-arranged the songs in my desired order.
I then disonnected the pod and exited ITunes.
When I later restarted ITunes with the pod connected, my song order had changed. With the pod still open in ITunes, I am no longer able to change the play order position. As say, move song #45 to position #2 and etc.
Has something changed as I was always able to do this prior to updating ITunes and the pod ?
Was this caused by updating ITunes to the newest version?
Is there a solution to be able to manage the order of your songs as before ?
Can I use a 6.0 version of Itunes inorder to regain this song order problem. I was always able to use this function in a previous version.
Wished I never would have updated to 7.2 from whatever I had. I really should have know better.
    Thx
    Arc

Solved my problem by reloading ITunes Version 7.1.1.5. Now I can accomplish what I want to do.
