PC to MAC switch

Good Morning!  I recently made the switch from PC to MAC.  I had the previous version of Light Room and now that I have a new computer I can not download the older version because there is a new version.  Anyone know how I can get the previous version??

ince updating my firefox browser whenever i click on an internet link in an email it does not open on firefox athough my mac switches to the firefox window as i have this set to be my default browser- what should i do?

I have the same problem, and I also wondered if Google toolbar has anything to do with it. There GMAIL was set as the default mail application at first. I have removed that setting, but Firefox 4.0.1 continues to use GMAIL instead of Outlook which is my selection for mailto handling.

  • Sapphire HD 7950-Start up screen missing.PC/MAc switch ??

Ive tried to save some dosh, by updating my a mac 3,1 with a new graphics card......
My mac is a 3,1... Ive put the card in and installed Maverick, up to date.
There is no start up screen, though the cards works, just black screen for 30 seconds and then your in....
There is a PC/mac switch on teh card to sellect PC or MAc use...
It doesnt make any differance which its set , it still works and it still doesnt give a start up screen.
I know on the Sapphire site its says MAc 4,1 upwords....but Im sure lots of people are using in their Mac 3,1.?????
    Any help much apprecited....

    +1
I have the 2009 MP and recently installed the Sapphire HD 7950. This card shows the unpleasant behaviour of letting the monitor black until the user selection appears. If I try to select the startup disk (pressing "option" upon start), the screen stays black and I cannot select any boot volume.
OK, fine, this wouldn't be too big a problem, if I wouldn't need to switch to my bootcamp drive from time to time.
Does anybody know how to solve this conundrum?

  • Mac Switches Off (Is this a battery problem)

My Mac switches off automatically, even if my battary has 68% power left. I can only use my Mac if I have the Power Adapter plugged in.
If I turn my Mac on without the Power Adapter it shuts down before the Apple logo appears. Could this be a battery problem.

Same (identical problem) problem here. A few days ago it was not so evident, I felt like I was taking crazy pills: putting the book to stop and, when back, off.
Anyway now the mbp refuses to be turned on if the power cord is not plugged. Bad.
I'm gonna call for a replace tomorrow. (Little note, this is my third macbook pro. The first had broken isight and the second was a pit of panics.... speechless)

  • First macbook: pc to mac switch

    Hello,
I am making the switch this week. I will be purchasing my first mac this week (15" macbook pro). When I purchase the mac, does the staff there offer any sort of pc-mac file transfer service for new mac users? I'm not interested in any long term membership sorta deal, just a once and done kind of thing.
    Thanks

bring your pc into a retail store when you buy your Mac and an Apple Genius transfers over the files for free. Welcome to the family btw ^^

  • Mac Pro2,1 (2008) Speed Issues Please help recent PC to Mac switcher HELP??

I decided to switch my PC to a Mac a year ago -sick of viruses etc. I bought MacPro, 2 30" cinemas and a few months later Macbook Pro. I run a financial trading business - Filemaker, Quantrix (financial modeling), and Excel and Firefox all day. However, I've never seen the throughput and speed that I expected. 40% of my commands produce the pinwheel - often for a simple search command in firefox. I've spent hours reading these forums with the understanding that anything nevative is delected by Apple. I have spent hours with Apple techs, who in most cases don't seem to know much about their own machines. I have a current clean install with all updates on the mac. No VM - Mac too slow to make it worthwhile.
Real question is how can such a highly touted machine be so slow in a workstation environment. I recently put together an Intel i7 920 machine with 6 GB Ram. I can be in Firefox on the mac, type in a google search & hit enter. Then go to the intel box, start Firefox, type in the same search, get the search results and click and be on the site - the speedy Mac Pro is still spinning pinwheels trying to do the search. Both machines connected to the same router going to the same IPS.
I know that the word slow is relative, but the secenerio above shows a 20-30 second difference between the 2 machines - Obviously, I ran the test multiple times. I know you folks love your Macs and believe me I did 6 months of research before taking the plunge, but it appears that I've made a $12,000 mistake.
The above is but one of the speed problems I'm seeing - financial modeling, spreadsheet - everything is slooooowww on the Mac. Any suggestions?

OK. Let's try to get some things straight. You have a 2007 model, not 2008, if indeed it's got the machine ID of 2,1. There's no i7 CPU in that model. There are no internal connectors for separate power, although there is a free drive power connector for a second optical drive. SATA SSDs can be installed in any of the drive trays. There are third-party products that enable mounting multiple SSDs in the trays to be used in RAID arrays (I can't give you a reference, but you can Google for it or perhaps someone else will pop in here with the information.) The only other motherboard connectors are the two for use by video cards for power and the additional SATA drive connectors.
Application slowness is frequently caused by too little RAM, but you haven't provided any information on just how much RAM everything you have running is consuming. Your 8 GBs may be too little. We also don't know how large your boot drive is nor how much free space is available. Also since you have a used computer we don't know if you've reinstalled everything or are using an operating system that came on the computer. All this information would be helpful to know.
You might start by downloading and installing AppleJack - VersionTracker or MacUpdate - and reading the documentation, then run the software. Select About this Mac from the Apple menu and verify your machine recognizes all 8 GBs of installed RAM. Open Activity Monitor in the Utilities folder, select All Processes from the Processes drop down menu, then click twice on the CPU column to display in descending order. Is there a process using a large amount of CPU time? If so the force quit the process to see if that helps improve overall performance.
I'm not really familiar with your router, but if you have an Airport Extreme Base Station I would suggest using it for compatibility. However, if you change routers, then suggest you first power off the modem, router, and computer. Wait at least one minute. Turn on the modem and wait for the status lights to indicate connection to your ISP. Next turn on the router and wait until the status light shows communication with the modem (the green light on the AEBS.) Last turn on the computer. Check Network preferences to be sure you are getting a valid IP address. I suggest turning IPv6 configuration to OFF. You also might try adding a different DNS address such as 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220. This is done in Network preferences for the Ethernet port. For best speed don't use wireless. Wireless is at best 1/3 as fast as Gigabit Ethernet.

  • Win-Mac Switcher: can I use my QT Pro registration code on my new mac?

I switched. On my PC I allready bought a registration for Quicktime Pro and used it. Can I use the same registration for Quicktime on my new mac? I allready tried but it said: invalid registration. What to do?

And if it did work it would violate the licence, one licence per computer.

  • Will iMac be efficient for Video Production Work Flow? PC to MAC switch.

Hi, I'm a long time Windows user editing in Sony Vegas for my video production work. I've been toying with the idea of seriously switching to Mac and Final Cut for about a year now. I may take the plunge this weekend. I don't think I want to go above $2k. I've been looking at the iMac 24inch, 2.8GHz model for a while now in the store, playing with footage. Nevetheless, I'm certainly nervous about making such a switch! I've been working with Sony Vegas for a couple of years now editing movies.
I do independent video production work, pretty seriously, but not for a huge movie house or anything. Will this iMac with Final Cut Studio work for me? Also should the fact that you can't upgrade specs on the iMac worry me? Will this computer be obsolete by next year.
I'm mainly interested in speed, efficient work flow, rendering times, etc. for video editing. Everything else I've seen on the mac I love.

hey there monaya & welcome to Discussions,
the iMac you're considering will certainly run FCS2. Tara Timpone edited "The TV Set", starring David Duchovny on her iMac @ home, see this: http://www.apple.com/pro/profiles/kasdan/
i still do some editing on a 17" imac G4 w/ 512 MB, RAM(top of the line 5 1/2 years ago) & it shows no sign of not doing what need. it won't run FCS 2, but i'm still rolling on the home video to DVD part of my video biz w/ it-so it just got repurposed & has been online wirelessly for most of that time(so i can check e-mail, listen to radio for a break). it will run previous versions of FCE, which is how i got into using a pro-style editing app.
render speed will depend on footage format/codec, FX & transitions, RAM, etc..., but once you get used to the suite, establish a workflow, keyboard & interface layout that works for you, you should be okay.
    good luck.

  • Mini Mac Switches Off.

    *Wits End,*
My mac mini 2009 model has recently started switching off I have tried the SMU reset with no success, the unit is stubborn to switch back on and I have to hold the on button in for sometime, it may then stay on for 5 mins or 2 hrs but switches off again I have removed the outer case and dusted the unit but I don't think its a overheat/fan problem.
It seems since I used an external hard drive the problem began, has anybody experienced a similar problem could it be software problems.

I'm sure something is overheating. Could be an accumulation of dust, or a malfunctioning part. I would make an appointment with an apple genius bar at your local apple store.

  • My Mac switches itself back on!!!

Hi, I have a 17" powerbook which has started switching itself on when it feels like it!! At around 2am this morning I heard the start-up chime and the sound of TV coming via eyeTV. I got up, powered down and thought - strange. When I got up this morning - the Mac was on and eyeTV was running. (eyeTV launches itself when the mac is on - so I can't really call it the culprit - it did not have any scheduled recordings). I am unsure how this can happen - once Shutdown (and it was Shutdown not sleep) can an application turn the Mac on? If not - any ideas!! Thanks.

Yes - forgot to mention that - I checked to see whether I had inadvertenly ticked something here - but everything is unchecked as it should be. I can't think what would cause my mac to power up. It seems now that it will power up any time. I have just returned after a day-out, and the power book was on again. So this is twice during the night, and once during the day. It does not happen immediately though. No new applications have been installed recently, and I don't know of any applications that can powerup a mac. Thanks for your reply.

  • Blogger usage question for recent Mac switcher

I was wondering , as a recent switcher, is there a way to transfer pictures onto blogger.com like hello/picasa? From the PC, picasa would basically load all pictures from my HD and send what I wanted to the Blogspot for publishing on my page. Is there a similar app for macs, either for the free blogger.com or a way to post pictures? Thanks, Pete

  • Mac Pro will not boot, power light flashes once and then Mac switches off

One of our Mac Pro's will not boot. When pressing the power button the light will come on briefly and the Mac will just turn off again.
I have unplugged the power cable and held down the power button for 10 seconds but this did not help.
Any suggestions for me before I call up Apple?

Most indications from flashing power lights are telling you that there is not enough working memory to start up.
