PC user w/ Audio wma files and Itunes MPEG-4 audio files in separate folder

My husband has an mp3 player that uses the wma format, so we have a lot of songs in the audio folder. Initially I simply transferred all of them into the itunes folder and they were converted to mpeg-4 format. Now as more files have been added to the audio folder, I would like to convert them to mpeg-4 and get them into my itunes folder. I can't seem to figure out how to find the ones that aren't already in the folder and just transfer those. It wants to transfer all of them and then I have duplicate songs. Anyone have any ideas?

Have had no trouble in the past but now it's everything I download.
So all these things used to play in Quicktime and iTunes and won't? Downloaded now and in the past?  Even previous mp4s? This is what I gather from your last statement.
Have you changed the file extensions to match those for mp4s iTunes will accept?
Have you updated any media related software on your computer since everything last worked?

I get a message the songs are in wma format and iTunes will convert them to AAC format - do I select Convert or Skip. I ripped new CDs I bought using Windows Media Player and they are saved on my C drive. I have done this before but cannot do it now.

If you want to play them in iTunes, choose "Convert."  This will allow iTunes to create new AAC versions and add those new versions to your iTunes library.
The original WMA files will still be in the folder(s) wherever they currently are.  iTunes will ignore the WMAs once it has the converted versions.  It is then up to you if you wish to keep or delete your WMA origninals.

  • Two User IDs with one iPhoto and iTune Library

I'd like to set up the user permissions on my MacBook so that two different users can have access to the same iPhoto and iTunes libraries. I've set up both users as administrators. I've tried moving the libraries to the SHARE folder, but that didn't work. In the GET INFO menu I set up both users with READ&WRITE access. This works for one user at a time, but I cant set it up so both users have access.

  • How to use automator to duplicate files into separate folder?

i am running the latest version of Yosemite just to clarify.
My question is, is it possible to use automator to automatically copy a file thats added to a folder to a separate folder?
to clarify, i have a drive account that has all my university work stored in a folder called university, i also have a folder on my HD called university.
When i work on something i open it from the university folder on my HD, and when im done working i have to copy the file manually into the drive folder.
Is there any way that i can use automator to detect when a file gets saved in a folder on my hard drive and automatically copy it to my drive folder?

    Hello,
I really don't have much of an idea, but since no one has replied yet, I'll offer this...
I wonder if it's a matter of having to clear browser caches & reloading the page?

  • OverDrive WMA Audiobook and iTunes?

Hey, I just joined this library audiobook service.  http://nwwanytime.lib.overdrive.com/3C976B44-8233-4FB1-BF03-31B0FF85F967/10/504/ en/Help-QuickStartGuide.htm  The books come in various formats including MP3, trouble is it seems every one in which I might be interested is marked "OverDrive WMA Audiobook."  It says they play on iPod but I don't see how, since I know regular WMA format is completely incompatible with iTunes, and if I can't get material into iTunes I don't see how to get it onto my iPod.  I joined NetLibrary through my local library and more than half the titles were completely useless being in WMA, including most of those I most wanted.  Someone here gave me the name of some program which converts WMA to MP3 but I haven't had time to mess with it yet.  Thing is, NetLibrary is free through my local library, so I can mess with those books anytime, but if Washington Library Anytime has something NetLibrary doesn't, is it worth my time trying to download titles in OverDrive WMA Audiobook?  Because I had to pay to join this other library and the card expires at a certain time.  If it's going to expend gallons of blood, sweat, toil, and tears to get the books to play, I'll have to give them the go-by, but if it's not too much of a struggle I wouldn't want to miss titles I could have otherwise obtained if I knew what was involved.  Is this some kind of special WMA or are they just misinformed or lying?  Is there something special I should do to make it work, or should I just give those books up as a bad job and concentrate on what I can actually make work?  Thanks.

Some find the mobile device transfer confusing.  To load or delete a WMA or MP3 book onto an Apple mobile device do the following.
    1. For Windows versions, you must first do a security update of Windows Media Player (even though you won't be using it) using Internet Explorer at http://drmlicense.one.microsoft.com/indivsite .
    2.  Open iTunes, plug the mobile device into the computer USB port and open the Overdrive Media Console.
    3. Highlight the mobile device in the left hand menu of iTunes and insure the "Manually manage music and videos" box is checked in the Summary Tab.
    4. Highlight the book you want to transfer in the Overdrive Media Console and click the Transfer Button.   A window opens permitting you to click the boxes for parts of the book you wish to transfer.
    5. After the book has been transfered, when you click the disclosure triangle (arrow) to the left of the iPod, iPhone, or iPad in the Device section of the left hand menu of iTunes, MP3 books will show up under the Music subsection and WMA books will show up in the Books subsection.  Once the mobile device is disconnected from iTunes, MP3 books will show up in the Songs list and WMA books will show up in the Books list.
    6. To remove a book from a mobile device plug the device into the USB port and open iTunes. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of your iPod, iPhone, or iPad in the Device section of the left hand menu of iTunes so that you can see the device’s subcontents. For an MP3 book select the Music subsection, right click on the book and choose Delete.  For a WMA book, select the Book subsection, right click on the book and choose Delete.

  • Samba 4: users unable to move files from compressed folder to Samba share

I have recently upgraded Samba 3.6.x from Centos 6.6 to Samba 4.1.12 on Centos 7.The shares were migrated in place. I reset permissions and Windows ACLs according to the Samba 4 Wiki.
When a user opens a compressed folder (a.k.a. Zip file) on Windows 7, then tries to copy the files into a shared folder on the Samba 4 server using drag & drop, only one to four files is actually copied, and the copy process silently fails. If the user waits about 2 minutes, then they can move all of the files without issues. Also, if the user is able to copy all files, when they try to delete the newly created folder they get an error: Thumbs.db cannot be deleted because it is open in Windows Explorer.
So, the root of the cause seems to be Windows Explorer locking files for too long. But I don't understand this enough to fix it.

  • HT204478 Photos for Mac and iTunes create significantly larger "iPod Photo Cache" folder compared to iPhoto and iTunes combo

When I used iPhoto, my iPod Photo Cache folder was like 4-5 GBs. After cleaning my library once upgrading to Photos (deleting about 1200 pics, yes I should have done this before..) my new iPod Photos Cache folder was 13 GBs!!! I am already low on disk space as it is and I haven't synced videos or anything. Any ideas? Bug?
I am going to try deleting the folder and resyncing.
    Some info:
    iPhoto 9.6.1
    Photos 1.0 on 10.10.3

This is not okay... I've never had the iPod Photo Cache folder go over 5 GBs with iPhoto.

  • Will not play WMA files, please help.....

I have the latest version of flip 4 mac and the Quicktime 7.4.1. Why can't any of these programs play WMA files?

What is the codec of the WMA?
    From Wikipedia:
Microsoft currently endorses the third-party Flip4Mac WMA, a QuickTime component which allows Macintosh users to play WMA files in any player that uses the QuickTime framework.[49] Flip4Mac however does not currently support the Windows Media Audio Voice codec.

    Hi Sasan,
These are the ACL's of IFS:
PRIVATE Grants no permissions to any other user. Other users cannot view, modify, or delete a user’s document in any way, unless changed by the owner.
PROTECTED For folders only. Enables other users to see the files in the folder, add documents and folders to the folder, and remove documents and folders they have created from the folder, but are not allowed to delete the folder itself.
PUBLIC Allows full access to the item. All users can make any changes that the owner can make.
PUBLISHED Allows other users to view the contents, but they are not allowed to modify or delete the document.
If you attach the ACL Public it must work!

I am a long time iTunes user but a new MacBook owner! I keep the majority of my music files on an external hard drive.   I'm trying to view all those files on my MacBook through iTunes.   With windows you would go to : File/Add To Library, and iTunes would add all your selected files to your music library BUT WOULD NOT COPY THEM TO YOUR HARD DRIVE.  In other words, if the external hard drive was connected, you could listen, drag/drop, and edit the files.   When I tried the same thing with my new MacBook... it actually started coping the files to my MacBook harddrive.  I don't want that, it's millions and millions of mp3's that I don't want to keep on my computer, only my external hard drive.   Can anyone help?    I'm sure it's something easy, I'm just so new to the Mac world.   Being an iPhone owner for many many years I'm picking up things fast, but this is getting the best of me!  Help !

In iTunes 11 uncheck the preferences setting in in the iTunes Preferences panel "Advanced > Copy Files to iTunes Media folder when adding to Library"
