PC will not autenticate to 10.5 shares

Hi,
I have a server running 10.5.4. Let me state from the beginning I am a newbie to Mac Servers so I hope I don't sound to stupid here.
I have file sharing set up on the server.
The server is not at my location so I am accessing everything from outside the internal IP.
I am able to access sharepoint with no problem from my Mac with apple K.
The issue arises when I am trying to access a sharepoint from my Windows XP machine running XP Pro.
I have smb enabled and have even disabled the firewall and nothing I do will get my PC to authenticate on the server.
If I type in the servers ip in run it connects to the server with some default shares that I can not even access. No matter what I try I can not get a log in screen or anything that will authenticate to my folders.
I hope I have done something really small and stupid.
If there is any one out there that can help me it would be greatly appreciated.
Thank You in Advanced.

After removing my Boot Camp partition with Boot Camp Assistant, my 2.0 GHz iMac will not boot directly to 10.5.5, I receive the message "no bootable device found".
I must hold down the option key and select and choose Mac OS X, 10.5.5 on Macintosh HD, even though no other choice is available.
Welcome to Apple Discussions:
That is normal after removing the bc partition.
What you do after you are in Leopard, is change the Startup Disk in system preferences to Mac OS X, the first icon in the list.

I cannot find the eMac install disk, and I haven't been able to get it to start up from my 10.3 CDRm (holding down option or c), though I read something somewhere about these not being able to start up from system folders earlier than those they shipped with. I've dealt with this sort of thing several times before, and it always seemed to work to simply use target disk mode.
It definitely won't start up fromt the 10.5 DVD-R, and I'm pretty sure I tried putting the MBP into TM to use its optical drive as well, but it didn't work. But it's worth trying again, and I appreciate your input greatly.

  • Dual Ethernet will not connect if set to share Single IP address

The subject says it all. My trusty old Dual Ethernet will not connect if set to share Single IP address.
I cannot get anything but a self assigned IP address with it set to share a single IP address.
Before about Tuesday of last week I had connected to it a Mac mini, iMac, Dell Desktop, Dell Laptop, and PS3 all working fine. I think Comcast or Apple updated their system or Airport software and now the old dual Ethernet will not share a single IP address.

So far as I know, there has been no recent change in Apple's software affecting the Snow (a/k/a Dual Ethernet) base station. About 2-1/2 weeks ago, Apple distributed an update to AirPort software for Intel Macs running Tiger, but it would not have affected the base station.
Your topic implies that when the Snow is not set to share a single IP address (i.e., presumably, when "Distribute IP addresses" is unchecked in the Network pane of AirPort Admin Utility for Graphite and Snow), one of the computers is connecting to the Internet through the base station. I also imagine that the self assigned IP address you mention is the IP address of that computer, rather than of the base station, and that that computer obtains an IP address from Comcast when the Snow is not distributing IP addresses.
Assuming that that computer is connecting wirelessly, then whatever settings that computer is using for TCP/IP and PPPoE in the AirPort part of System Preferences, while the computer connects to the Internet, should be the ones used for the base station, in the Internet pane of AirPort Admin Utility for Graphite and Snow. (Most likely, it is simply "Using DHCP.") The IP address obtained from Comcast should be received by the base station, when it is set to distribute IP addresses in the Network pane, and the IP address should show up in the Internet pane. (When the Snow is distributing IP addresses, it has two IP addresses itself, a WAN IP address obtained from Comcast and a LAN IP address, 10.0.1.1, visible only to devices in your network.)
Even when the settings are correct, the Snow might not be able to obtain an IP address if your cable modem remembers the computer, which had been receiving the IP address previously. You'll probably need to shut down the computers and unplug power to the base station and cable modem. After waiting 5 minutes, restore power to the modem, then after another 5 minutes, restore power to the base station, then after another 5 minutes, start up a computer.

  • Wrt400n will not connect to sites that share a common gateway

I just added a wrt400n to my network. The computers using this router can go most places on the internet just fine. However - I have 2 servers that exist just beyond that device. The computers connected to the wrt400n cannot communicate with those servers. I have verified that the servers are reachable from other places.
    any suggestions?
    My layout is:
                     Cable Modem w/ 4 ports
                    /          |         \
         Server 1     Server 2  wrt400n
                                       /         |       \
                                    pc1      pc2   priner

Thanks but this isn't quite my problem. Looking back, I didn't explane my issue clearly.
I recently replaced my Linksys G router with a Dual Band N+  router, I did not change any of the physical layout or settings on individual machines.
    My layout looks like this:
Internet Modem w/ 4 wired network ports
                        |
          |                        |                      |
Server 1            Server 2             Linksys device
                                                             |
                                           |             |             |            |
                                       pc 1         pc2        VOIP      Printer
Using the controls for the Linksys device, I cannot ping or tracert to server 1 or 2. The pc's attached to the Linksys cannot see Server 1 or 2. But I can see anything else on the Internet with no trouble. The IP addresses for Server 1 and 2 both resolve so DNS is working correctly. Usually the response is a connection time out.
Also I can usually get a connection for a breif few minutes after I make and save changes on the Linksys, but the connection is usually gone within 10 minutes.
I have attempted to disable the firewall on the Linksys device. The PCs are not using a fire wall program at this time.

  • When I replaced my PC desktop with a Mac Mini and hooked up my HP printer to it, I discovered my other computers on the Wi-Fi network could no longer access the printer.  The manual says Maverick OS will not allow PC's to access the printer. Any thoughts?

When I replaced my PC desktop with a Mac Mini and hooked up my HP printer to it, I discovered that my other computers on the Wi-Fi network could no longer access the printer.  The manual says Maverick OS will not allow PC's to share the printer. Does anyone else have this problem?  My printer does not have on-board Wi-Fi but, otherwise, works fine.  I shouldn't have to buy a new one.  Is there a OS patch out there that would open the printer port for my PC computers?

I'm assuming that on the Mac, the System Preferences -> Sharing -> Printer Sharing -> [X] HP printer -> Everyone can print is selected?  That is to say, the Mac will allow anyone to print using the printer, and that you did not try to restrict who can print.
How is your network configured?  Bonjour as a protocol will NOT cross a router boundary.  If you have 2 or more subnets active with the PCs on one subnet and the Mac on another, that would block the PCs from seeing the Mac.
You could have multiple subnets if you have more than one router, such as an ISP provided broadband modem/router and another WiFi Router.  If the PCs are talking to one router and the Mac is talking to another, that could be a 2 subnet situation.  The additional routers must be put into bridge mode, which is done differently depending on the router.  But the basics are to diable DHCP and NAT services on the secondary router(s) having just one active router on the network.
Also, using Bonjour Browser on my Mac, it is showing me that the printer is being advertised as using Internet Printing Protocol, so if that is something selectable on Windows, maybe you can bypass Bonjour on Windows.

  • IMovie 6 will not Share/Export

I have successfully imported clips from my Sony HD camera. BUT iMovie 6 will NOT export nor share. Tried all possible options (even select clips only, reduced clip size down to 6 seconds). No luck. Any ideas what to do next? My computer is a new G5 Powermac desktop with 2 GB RAM. iLife 5 worked fine

If you open preferences, and select Play Movie Through Camera, you can export withut using Share. I have succeeded to export iMovie HD 6 projects this way. Before doing so, restart your computer, to give iMovie a clean start. I can playback my project through a Canopus converter this way without using Share.
I hope this helps. If iMovie HD 6 ever crashes, simply Restart your computer and try again.
    Good luck and best wishes,
    Gavin Bantock

I got some more info that may help.
I put a cd on my laptop, and was able to share it to my computer... So the problem is only from my computer to my laptop. I tried the firewall thing and it did not help. I read the rest of the trouble shooting page, and nothing else applies. iTunes is an execption and already was. I can not think of anything else being my problem. Do you think I should re-install iTunes or would that be a waste of time? At this point I am about to just call Apple for some help because I am getting to stressed over this.
    Thanks

It is almost as if the program does not exist on my computer. If I search for it, the only thing that comes up is the installer. I cannot find it anywhere despite the fact I have installed it numerous times, uninstalled it and conducted a fresh install, and the Adobe website checks says that it is installed.

  • PPC all of the sudden will not file share, what can I do?

I have a PPC G5 OSX 10.4.11 all of the sudden I went to connect to my MacBook Pro with file sharing and I can not. I can see the MacBook in my network area and when I hit connect it lets me put in my password and then I try to click on the folder to mount it and my finder freezes. I relaunch the finder but still get the spinning wheel of death over the network window. I have looked online and all the forums say I have to reinstall my OS but there has to be another way, can anyone help? I also try to open my "file share" option on my PPC but it will not do that either. Thanks in advance.

Hi skrilla, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, then move these files to the Desktop.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)

Need more information to help you, but I am providing some suggestions.  Sorry if you are past these type of basic things.  But didnt really have much to start with and understand your technical level to start with.
Have you got into Settings > Computers > Turned on Home Sharing (Note: You must use the some Apple ID used by the iTunes library on your MAC for them to see one another)
How is your MAC connected to the network vs the 720 ATV2?  Is one WiFi and the other Ethernet?  Have you tried switching the ATV2 to WiFi if Ethernet?
Has the MAC been restarted since this started happening?  Same with your Router and any other networking device being used?  Sometimes an IP conflict can arise in your networking and most consumer networking equipment does not know how to "self heal" without a reboot.
Make sure you have given those things a whirl and share back your results.  Any other information you can provide, such as how you connect to your network from each ATV and MAC.

  • Adobe Reader 11.0.9 will not open PDF's from network shares

Having an issue on computers running 11.0.8 that auto update to 11.0.9.  Opening a PDF from a network share that previously worked will no longer, giving the following error: "There was an error opening this document. The network path was not found".  I tried backing off to 11.0.8 again, as that's what get.adobe.com/reader is serving up, but it pops it right back to .9 after a few minutes as auto-updates are on.
Network path was put in the Security (Advanced) section, even turned Protected Mode off.
    Ideas?

Can you please send process monitor logs:
To take process monitor log follow the below steps:
    1) Download process monitor from http://technet.microsoft.com/en-in/sysinternals/bb896645.aspx
    2) Launch process monitor.
    3) Now try to open the PDF file at network share. It will not open with the network error so just cancel the error dialog.
    4) Save process monitor logs as a .pml file.
    5) Send it to me.
Try above workflows with Protected Mode checkbox checked.
    Thanks,

  • Why IPHOTO album will not keep the template format when share to IDVD.

Why IPHOTO album will not keep the template format when share to IDVD. Also, could be better if IPHOTO Album could access "inspector tool" with ability to change the slide duration time and apply a random "Transitions" to specific slide.

Are you sharing an album of photos or a slideshow to iDVD?  If it's an album then what you get in iDVD is just a slideshow with the photos in it where you have to set the transition and slide timing unless you add music and select fit to audio.
Don't know what you mean by the template format unless you're referring to the themes in a slideshow? If you share a slideshow the ss is converted to a Quicktime movie file and that is added to the iDVD menu window.  No changes are possible.

  • Ethernet wired desktop will not share with Apple TV.  Has anyone had this problem

I have an Apple TV.  It connected with my network with no problem.  Both my laptops and iPhones will share with no problem, however my desktop that is hard wired in will not show up on the Apple TV.  Can someone help please.  Apple support can't figure it out and Netgear wants to charge me for support.

I suspect the router creates seperate networks for the wired and wireless networks.
Check the router settings to confirm this.
The other thing that could be occurring is security software on the desktop blocking the connection, specifically firewall software.  Try disabling the software to see if the issue goes away.  If it does, then contact the company that supports that software to modify the settings to allow communication with the software turned on.
