windows 7 and itunes 10.4 will not recognize iphone 4.  iphone does not show up in device list in iTunes

Found my answer by sifting through all itunes questions.  (I tried earlier, but apparently chose the wrong key words.  In my successful search I just searched through everything itunes related.) There was a posting where someone indicated they could not open alternative libraries using the option key method, precisely my situation.  They stated that they solved the problem by appending a ".itl" at the end of the library file.  I tried this myself and sure enough, it worked.  Hopefully it will also work for all others who are suffering from this scenario.

iTunes 11.1.0.126 (Win7/64) will not recognize iPhone 5 (neither iOS 6 nor iOS 7).
Windows can see the USB-connected iPhone.

  • Itunes 10.5 will not recognize iphone

Just updated to 10.5 itunes - now it will not recognize my iphone 4.3.5.  Suggestions?

I am having this problem, but on my Macbook Pro running OS X 10.8.2 and iTunes 10.7.  Both my iPhone 5 and my wifes iPhone 5 are not recognized in iTunes.  Both our old iPhone 4S's come up just fine.  Any other work arounds?
I have reinstalled iTunes, restarted both phones, and Mac.  Still not recognizable.
    EDIT:
Just tried the other cable from my iPhone 5 box, and it works fine.  I then tried plugging the faulty cable straight into the wall, and it gets no charge.  Faulty cable.

  • ITunes 11.1.4 will not recognize iPhone, iPad after Dell BIOS update

I suspect the problems everyone is having are related to the BIOS.  I am running a Dell XPS i7-3770 CPU @ 3.40 GHz 3.4 GHz with 24 GB RAM, 64 bit OS x64 based processor.  OS is Windows 8.1
I just updated my BIOS as suggested by Dell.  Now iTunes 11.1.4 will not recognize my iPhone or iPad.
My computer accesses the iPhone or iPad, but iTunes does not recognize them.
This was not a problem prior to updating BIOS.
Is there a fix or patch?
I have to sync my devices for work.
Please no baby-steps replies.  Have tried everything including removing devices from device manager and reconnecting to force driver update and try to force iTunes recognition.  None of that works.
    Thanks!

Here is the fix from Waldo-E3 elsewhere in this forum.
Like I said, no baby steps answers please!
    Kudos to Waldo-E3!
      RESOLVED...
Found these steps posted elsewhere by another and the solution worked for me...
    1. Go to Windows 8.1 Control Panel.
    2. Go to Hardware and Sound; Devices and Printers; Unspecified (look for Apple Mobile Device USB Driver)
    3. Right-click, then select properties on the menu list.
    4. Select the "Hardware" tab at the top  When the properties dialog box opens, once more select properties on the lower right hand button.
    5. Under the "Driver" tab menu, the update driver button will be grey and unselectable here. So you need to select and click "Change Settings" button located near the lower left corner.
    6. Now you can click the "Driver" tab menu near the top, so you can see the "Update Driver" button.
    7. Select "Update Driver".
    8. Select and click "Browse my computer for driver software".
    9. For Windows 8.1 64 bit, it should be located in the folder: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers.
    10. Click Next, and let the driver re-install.
    11. iTunes  11.1.4.62 should open automatically if your iphone is connected already

  • Just started. iphoto will not recognize iphone as a camera

frustrated here. All of a sudden, IPhoto will not recognize my iPhone as a camera and therefore will not upload photos taken on the phone. No settings have been changed. Not sure what to do here.

Got any photos in your camera roll that were emailed to you or saved through safari? If so, try deleting them or emailing them to yourself & then deleting them from your camera roll. See if iphoto will then see your phone.

  • IMac 10.6.8 will not recognize iPhone v.4.12.09 with iOS 7.1.1

I cannot get photos from my iPhone version 4.12.09 with iOS 7.1.1 to appear on the desktop of my iMac running 10.6.8.
It will not open iPhoto nor will preview recognize the iPhone as being connected. No way to get newly taken photos to iPhoto.

Have you just tried opening iPhoto manually to see if your iPhone will show up that way?
Have you tried shutting down your Mac and doing a PRAM reset?
    Resetting NVRAM / PRAM
    Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.
After resetting NVRAM or PRAM, you may need to reconfigure your settings for speaker volume, screen resolution, startup disk selection, and time zone.

  • Computer will not recognize iPhone, not even to charge

My computer has stopped recognizing my iPhone as being connected, and will not bring it up in iTunes or charge it. I've tried three different iPhone cables and three different USB ports, and none of them will connect. I know that the USB ports are working correctly, and the iphone will connect to AC power with the three cables. Basically, I know that every component is working separately, but when I put them together they will not work! The Apple device driver is not located in Device Manager, not even as a USB storage device. I expect the driver to install when I connect my phone, but instead my computer just ignores it! I ran diagnostics on iTunes, and this is what came up:

  • IMAC, iMovie, iPhoto will not recognize iPhone, won't charge either

    Hello All:
I just took some video with my iPhoto 3GS, and connected my iPhone to my iMac only to find that:
iPhone is not recognized by either iTunes, iPhoto or iMovie and what's more it won't charge. That is, my iMAC can't detect iPhone as a connected device. I went to the Apple support page and ran through all of the troubleshooting steps (except clean uninstall and reinstall of iTunes.)
As a control, I connected iPhone to my MacBook and all fine: it charges, iTunes recognizes it as a connected device, as do iPhoto and iMovie.
This is a new thing, as when I got the iPhone a month or so ago, I used my iMac to initialize it.
All software up to date, all USB ports on iMAC work, cable is fine.
The ONLY new software I have loaded since I last used iPhone and iMAC together is Snapz Pro X (trial), so I did a thorough (and I mean thorough) uninstall of that...no change.
I live in Spain, so my closest Genius Bar is London, and I'm not flying up with a 24"iMAC under my arm!
    Any help?
    Steve

Isn't it always the last place you look for something is where you'll find it?
Last night when I made the post I was just too tired to delete iTunes and go through the Libraries to scrub out the files.
This morning, with a Cappuccino I did it.
Reloaded a fresh copy of iTunes...all better now.
Perhaps Apple support on this topic should change "on rare occasions you will need to reinstall iTunes" to "you will need to reinstall".
    Anyway, better now.
BTW: the reason all this happened is because I wanted to transfer iPhone videos to my Mac to work on them in iMovie. iMovie won't recognise the iPhone, but, Image Capture does!! Just offloaded the 10 vids from iPhone in .mov format. I'm good to go.
Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night!

  • ITunes 8.2 will not recognize iPhone 3GS on Windows XP Pro

Hi guys. I just got a new iPhone 3GS and I'm having problems getting it to sync up to my PC. I have an HP NC6400 PC notebook with Win XP Pro SP2. I installed the latest iTunes 8.2 and connected my iPhone, but nothing happens. The iPhone doesn't show up under devices and it doesn't ask to install drivers. I did several days of research on the net and tried a few different things. I booted up the iPhone in recovery mode, and it then asked to install a driver, but couldn't find any valid drivers. I found on a post somewhere that the iPhone uses a driver called USBAAPL.SYS under C:\Windows\System32\Drivers, but that file is nowhere to be found. I tried removing and reinstalling iTunes, and even tried iTunes v8.1, but no luck. I even found a link to download the file and tried to install that driver for the device, but it didn't recognize it as a valid driver. I tried connecting my iPhone to a friend's computer (Dell desktop PC also with XP SP2) and it worked perfectly, but on my own PC, no luck. There's something wrong with my PC.
There's another symptom that I noticed and I'm not sure if it's directly related or not. When I load iTunes, I get this message:
"Warning! The registry settings used by the iTunes drivers for importing and burning CDs and DVDs are missing. This can happen as a result of installing other CD burning software. Please reinstall iTunes."
I found a post referring to this on Apple's support site here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2372?viewlocale=en_US
I followed those instructions, and it seems the error message went away. Still though, no iPhone!
Can anyone please help me? Are there more diagnostics I can run? Is there a way to REALLY be sure iTunes has been completely uninstalled? Is there a way to see if some other software may be interfering with the installation of the drivers? My iPhone works fine on other PCs, but not mine! Thanks for your help!
    Eric

Hey guys. Ok it looks like I figured it out for myself.
I opened the iTunesSetup.exe file with WinRar, and it allowed me to extract the individual .msi files for the various iTunes components. This included AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi, AppleSoftwareUpdate.msi, Bonjour.msi, iTunes.msi, MobileMe.msi, and QuickTime.msi. I then ran each .msi individually and Removed each component. Once this was finished, I ran iTunesSetup.exe again and installed from scratch, and it worked! It looks like there was something wrong with an old installation and it never completely uninstalled. Now it's detecting my iPhone and working fine!

  • Finder will not recognize iPhone

I have just upgraded to Lion, and I noticed that when i plug in the iPhone, it won't show up on the Finder sidebar or the Desktop. I have already checked "CDs, DVDs, and iPods" to be shown (as well as "External Disks"). I am unable to find it through Disk Utility. HOWEVER, iPhoto and iTunes were able to recognize and read the iPhone.
How can I make it show up?
I've already force quit/restarted Finder after applying the settings, i have tried resetting the phone, and i have installed the iTunes( and restarting the computer)

you use iTunes, iCloud or the iTunes app store to add or remove media and data. If you set iPhoto to load your phone's pictures upon connection, that will interact with the camera side of your device and it will also start to download the pictures when you connect the iphone. this is similar to cameras if you choose for a camera to automatically load it's content into iphoto when connected.
you were never able to see the iDevice unless you put it into disk mode and I don't think you can do that with an iphone. I think that was only for the iPod.
check out more about icloud and how you can sync your device untethered to your computer, leaving your a usb port free to use for another device.
