Try using the Software Update on your iPhone by going to Settings > General > Software Update. One thing to keep in mind if you are trying it on the computer is to make sure that you are not pressing any keys down when checking for updates as that may bring up a pop up window to find the update file.

Chris CA, I am having the same problem. I actually just purchased a brand new laptop (w/ Windows 8 already installed) and had to download itunes latest version (ver. 11) and am having the same problems. As my itunes seems compatible with my Windows 8, my itouch device can not be recognized by itunes or in the "my computer" folder.
perhaps this more of a windows 8 issue and not an itunes issue?
PS, i have OS4 on my itouch, could this be a problem as well?

windows 8 has been out long enough to have fixed this issue you would think Its bad enough my last computer hard drive went out and i lost all on it but now i cant backup my phone so if I lose it or something happens to it Ill be in bad shape lol PLEASE fix this issue!!! Update: my PC USB hub was connected to a USB 3 port, I connected the 30 pin cable directly to my PC, And the restore worked just fine. Restored phone from iCloud backup and seems to be working fine.

MacBook and iTunes won't detect my iPhone 3G

I have the iPhone 3G and it is synced to my PC with windows 7. I just bought a MacBook and want to sync my phone to my MacBook without losing all my contacts and everything on my iPhone, because I plan on selling my PC. The problem is, when I plug my iPhone into my new MacBook the computer and iTunes does not detect my iPhone at all. When I plug it in to the USB port, it charges my phone but it does not detect it on the computer or in the iTunes device list. Yet when I plug my iPod nano into the new MacBook the computer and iTunes detected it immediately. Help! How can I get my MacBook to detect my iPhone so I can use it with my new Mac and not my old pc!?

I have been using iPod touch and iTunes with Windows XP - no problems. I now have a new computer with Windows 7 Home Premium. When I try to sync the iPod with Windows 7 and iTunes it will not transfer all my photographs. What can I do?

When I tried to sync my iPod Touch with my new computer none of the photographs were synced. I use Adobe Photoshop Elements 10. When I did it the first time the photographs were all muddled up in their albums. When I tried to sync again the photographs were all removed. On the third try I received an error message something like 'Unable to sync photographs program cannot be found.' Can anyone help. (It may be to do with Windows 7 and Libraries??)

Ok sorry for the post in the wrong folder.
Im getting frustraded with my ipod.
I open up my Itunes for my ipod nano in windows xp and get this message.....
"The ipod "data" cannot be updated. you do not have enough access prvileges for this operation."
It just shows the word data next to my Ipod in Itunes.
It usually say's Steve's Ipod. PLEASE HELP!

From your description, it sounds like you are prompted to "link missing files" when attempting to modify/move certain items. iTunes has lost track of the actual song file that is on your computer, and we'll need to instruct iTunes on where this file is located. Syncing with Windows XP and iTunes 9.1 slow,stalled, hanging

I am attempting to sync my iPad with a Windows XP - based laptop having the latest and greatest iTunes. This process is barely moving. The device was left overnight and it is still attempting to sync. I am afraid to interrupt the process but I can't tell if the machine is hung up or wedged or what. The progress bar during the backup phase barely progresses.
Any ideas on how to unwed this?

The backup/sync process should never take that long...something seems to have gone wrong... You can try to force quit or end task for iTunes...
Depending on where in the process it got stuck you may or may not need to restore iPad.

Unfortunately iTunes refuses to pick-up my iTunes library from the external hard disk drive where I keep it (to protetct her from computer crashes or theft).

Yes I thought if I backed it up to this huge drive I would be safe but have lost all of my TV shows I bought, several movies I bought and some music.
I had crashed my laptop in 2009 and they helped me recover it all and they used file extensions for the ones not located back then.
It looks like the system better organized now but everytime I try to bring it old stuff it duplicating music not the TV or movies I bought.

I purchased a new computer which now has windows 7, I am having a problem with iTunes sync my iPod. I have installed iTunes 3 different times and it still wont sync my iPod touch. I have the first version of the iPod touch, I am out of solutions on what to do I don't want to have to lose all my music, pics and apps.. Any suggestions on what to do and how to fix this problem thank you!

Have you tried transferring all of your purchases?
To do this, plug in your iPod with iTunes open. (if it starts to sync, let it). Once it's done syncing, keep your iPod plugged in. Go to "File" at the top of iTunes and find "Transfer Purchases from iPod". Click that. It should start transferring everything from your iPod into iTunes. Once it's done transferring, sync your iPod again (just to be safe). Once it's done syncing, unplus your iPod and check each tab on the navigation bar to see if your stuff has transferred and synced (For example, if you transferred music, click the "Music" tab on the left navigation bar, for apps, click "Apps", etc.)
This worked for me when I couldn't figure out why my stuff wasn't transferring from my iPhone to iTunes by just syncing. I have to transfer purchases every time I download a new app, song, book, etc. Hope this helps!
