PC won't boot after BIOS flash

Hi
A few months back I flashed my BIOS to v2.5. Ever scince, the PC has not been as stable, so when upgrading my gfx card, and pc would crash all the time, I decided to revert back to v2.4.
When I re-flashed to v2.4, it flashed OK, but when I rebooted, the D-LED's showd 4 red's. According to the manual, this means that the CPU is either damaged or not installed properly.
The CPU works perfectly, as I tried it in a friends pc, but everytime I turn the power on I get 4 red LED's from the D-Bracket and the machine refuses to boot.
Does this mean the flash went bad? If so, is there anyway to revive a dead BIOS or do I now have a dead motherboard?
Thanks!

Thanks for the reply Maesus.
I tried the BIOS Recovery Feature, but it did not work. I will try to send it to a place that can recover corrupted BIOS's, otherwise if that does not work, I guess I need a new board then.

  • Help - No Boot after bios flash - p7N SLI Plat.

OK - I have a new P7NSLI Plat that I updated the bios to A738NMS.120.
I however did this using a floppy ie ran the amifud from the floppy and the bios file was on the floppy (this is how I usually do BIOS updates) .. It was only after this and the fact the computer now does nothing after the reboot I found the bit that says do not update from a floppy.
So basically I have a machine that doesnt do anything - you push the power switch and the fans light up and the leds go on but nothing else - no beeps from the graphics card and no POST.
The only thing I can find is a bit in the read me that says if machine won't boot use BIOS recovery method - but it doesnt say what that is.
    Help

Please provide full system specs.  Read the >>Posting Guide<< first.
Try to boot in barebone configuration:
    - no hard drives
    - no optical drives
    - no peripheral USB Devices
    - no card readers
    - no add-on cards:
    just:
    - CPU
    - video card
    - one stick of memory in first slot
    - power connectors
    - PS/2 keyboard
Unplug the A/C power connectors from your PSU, then remove the CMOS Battery and let the system rest for while (10-15 minutes), then hit the clear CMOS button at the back panel again, put the battery back in and try to boot.

  • Neo2 not booting after BIOS flash

    Darn - after upgrading to v1.3 BIOS, my Neo2 FIS2R won't boot.
I got a brand new set of components - new CPU, Neo2 FIS2R, and 1GB of Kingston HyperX PC3200 memory (22261T).  I put everything in my system (Antec case, 400W P/S) and it booted fine with the v1.0 BIOS and I was able to install WinXP to my new 120GB SATA drive and my ATI9700Pro.  Great - I know all my components work.
I install LiveBios and it shows me that v1.3 is out and enables MAT and DOT - the two features I bought the mobo for.  So I download the latest via LiveBios, build the floppy (my system uses NTFS to boot) and reboot.
The BIOS flash process goes smoothly and I wait all the way to the end.  I shut off the system and reboot - nothing, just a blank screen.  So I shut it off, clear CMOS, and reboot again - still nothing.  I try several more times, still nothing.  However, recovery mode works so I reflash 1.3 a couple times to see if that will help, but it does not.
Finally, I build a floppy with v1.2 BIOS as the recovery BIOS and use recovery mode to load that.  Still no go.
It is at this point that I discover and plug in those diags LEDs (I was using the onboard USB header to bring the USB ports to the front of the case) and find that it is stopping almost immediately at the 'early chipset identification' phase.  Ouch.  Oh, and at this point the BIOS recovery mode no longer works.  Ouch.
Any thoughts?  At this point I got an RMA number from the vendor and I'm thinking I'm just sending it back.

Unfortunately I can't even get to that phase - the system won't show the post splash screen or post at all.  It just sits there blank (I know I wasn't clear on where the boot process was stopping - it doesn't even allow me to enter rom-based setup.)
So I'd love to set vdimm to something else, but I can't.

  • K8N NEO v2.0 won't boot after BIOS Update

Like a fool I just updated my BIOS using Live Update. Now my computer stalls just after "Verifying DMI Pool Data" I get a flashing cursor in upper left hand corner. I can enter the BIOS and have tried numerous settings. I have unplugged the computer and used the Clear CMOS jumper, but to no avail. Naturally MSI won't let me download a new BIOS file so I can reflash using a floppy disk.
My board has version 3.0 stamped on it.
What can I do? I need to get this computer working. Please help!!!

Do >>Clear CMOS Guide<< with power cord removed.
    then see how its goes

This sound strange, according to this the MSI Live Update flashed your BIOS to the same version.[or the Live Update is.. ]

  • Helix died on me, won't boot after BIOS update

I just did a BIOS update the other day. No idea what version it is. When I booted it said it "detection error on HDD...". I have since reset the BIOS options to default, and now it boots to a DOS-like boot screen that shows the ATA HDD0 drive. But selecting it and hitting enter just flashes the screen and nothing happens.
When I attach a USB thumb drive with Linux, it shows up in the options on the DOS-like boot screen, but selecting it won't boot from it.
The laptop is now totally uselss and I'm losing days of time and it's a major problem. What to do?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Hello. Assuming that you have not clean installed a new operating system, and you've got the
original Win8 installation on your Helix.
Enter your BIOS setup by pressing F1 when the Lenovo logo appears.
Go to Security - Secure Boot and set it to Disabled if you want to boot any other OS than Win8.
If you're happy with just running Windows 8 on it, then I recommend Secure Boot to be set to ON.
Go to Startup - Boot - and on top should be Windows Boot Manager.
With Secure Boot set to on, UEFI/Legacy Boot is greyed out and set to UEFI Only.
With Secure Boot set to off, and you want to boot other OS, like Linux, it should be set to both.
Check these settings and see if your machine boots.

  • NEO4 Plat Sli SIL3231 Raid problem - Can't boot after BIOS Flash!

Hi, I have and Neo4 Platinum SLI. I had "the problem" a while back with the nVida raid where there was a hang on shutdown. I then created a RAID0 using my two Rators on the SIL3132 controller, and have three hitachi drives hooked up to SATA1 - SATA3. Back then, I had trouble getting my SIL3132 array to be the main boot volume. I could boot when no other drives were attached, but as soon as I attached them, I get the boot disk error after post. Somehow I got it to work, but not think this time, I flashed the BIOS and ran into the same problems, as the BIOS got reset.
First, I went in and re-enabled RAID on the sil3132 controller, and change the boot order to have the RAID voluime be the first boot device, and my other drivers be the next on down the line. Upon rebooting, my system hangs after verifying DMI pool at a blanksscreen for 5 - 10 minutes then gives my the "missing HAL.dll error". if I go back into the BIOS and disable SATA1/SATA2 and SATA3/SATA4 my computer boots just fine. I even completley disconnected my three drives an my system boots just fine. I have searched these forums and could not find anything close to my issue and wondered if it is something I am just missing in the setup. I will say that at POST my IDE devices has always read:
    IDE Primary Master [None]
    IDE Secondary Master [None]
IDE Primary Slave (my first DVD/R drive)
IDE Secondary Slave (My second DVD/R drive)
IDE Third Master (a 250gb drive)
IDE Fourth Master (a 250gb drive)
IDE Fifth Master (a 250gb drive)
    IDE Sixth Master [None]
Is this normal? all my hard drives are SATA. the raptors and three SATAII drives.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Since the Nvida raid problem seems to have been fixed (as far as I read) I would like to go back to using the nVidia raid controller. I just need to back up my system first!
    Thanks in advance.

    Jkmet,
I have noted the same problem, with a USB Pen drive.
If I leave it plugged in and shut down, the next time I cold boot it tries to boot for the pen drive.  What I found out the any time you add a drive before booting the BIOS places it at the top of the Hard Drive Priority list making it the boot drive.  Same thing happens when I plug in a new SATA and does not mater where it is connected.  So, what I have to do any time you add a drive with the power off you have to boot to BIOS reset the Hard drive priority list, then save, exit and reboot to boot from you windows drive.
I am sure this is a BIOS Bug, but MSI states that the way it should would work.

Got a bit of a problem now after a bios flash on my P67 GD80

And sure there was a diference beacause now it shows the 98 post error all the time.
    Same problem as this guy.

    98 error and black screen.
I know that this board has dual bios and it can swith between the two if one of them goes wrong. It have done that before then i was benching but now i can't get it to work...
Is my board just a paper weight now or is there something i can try to get it to switch to number 2 bios?

Is the BIOS blue LED blinking or solid? If no BIOS LED at all, then there is hope. Try & force to POST from the secondary by removing all the RAM except for a stick in the primary blue dimm slot. With power cord removed from the PSU, remove the battery for ahwile, clear CMOS, & test. If you had the Auto BIOS Update enabled before the failure, it should flash the primary. If not enabled, first thing if you can get in to BIOS is to enable Auto Update, shut down & restart & hope for the best.

  • RD230 - Won't boot after BIOS - Server beeps and the screen is blank.

    Hi there,
I have a problem with one of our RD230.
The Server seems to be ok. No Errors in BIOS. SATA Raid configured and so on...
But the server simply won't boot from CD or USB Drive or HDD.
After the whole BIOS Process the server gives a permanent beep and the Digitron shows code 00. The Screen just shows a blinking cursor top left.
    Nothing happens.
Removing the RAID, CD Drive, Network Card doesn't help.
Does anyone have an Idea whats going on with this server?
Also setting the J45 Jumper doesn't help.
    Thanks in Advance,
    Cheers,
    Chris

2 Things that can typically fix this issue. Please reseat the memory and if that does not fix it, please reseat the processor.
    Questions
1 - Has this system worked prior to this or is this an out-of-box failure?
2 - If it has worked in the past, what changes were made just prior to this issue? (ie Windows Update, BIOS Update, firmware update, driver(s) update, etc.)

  • Board won't work after BIOS flash

    All,
I have K8T Neo MS-6702 Ver 1.0 mother board. I flashed the bios using this .zip file 6702v32.zip which i downloaded from the MSI site. While flashing from the floppy there were no errors. I used Windows XP. now after i flashed when i reboot, all the machine does is blinks the CDROM driver light continuesly & does nothing else.
From the MSI website, it say i can press Ctrl+Home to make it read AMIBIOS file from the floppy. But Ctrl+Home doesn't seem to do anything.
Can someone help me here as to how to get back my Bios.
    Thanks
    Pavan

OK.. i tried the Insert & delete keys nothing happens.
Now going on to the AMIBOOT.ROM file in the floppy.
It says put this file alone in the floppy & reboot the machine & press and hold Ctrl-Home.
I tried this, but the big question is for how long am i supposed to press & hold.
The link from "apple renegade" user suggests that it would take 4 minutes.
    i quote from that website.
    Quote
AMI: The AMI boot-block BIOS will look for a AMIBOOT.ROM file on a diskette. Copy and rename the correct BIOS file on the floppy and power up the PC. The floppy doesn't need to be bootable. You will see the PC read the floppy, after about 4 minutes you will hear 4 beeps, this means the transfer is done. Reboot the PC and modify the CMOS for your configuration.
Here there is no mention that i need to hold the Ctrl+Home key combination.
Also, when the floppy is being read, would the floppy LED be on. I don't see any indication of the floppy being read.
Also, from the Basic Troubleshoot link in the MSI website it suggested to try the JBAT1 jumper, move it to 1,2 & leave for 15 seconds & put it back 2,3 pins. Tried this but no change.
It was also suggested to pull the  VBAT1, the CMOS batter & keep it out & the system down for several minutes. Did this too & keep the system down for about 5-7 minutes. No change when i put back the battery & restart.
    Any other suggestions??
Probably a shift in topic, if i were to get a new motherboard, i would prefer to get the same motherboard, so to pull the CPU off & put it in the new mobo, how do i clean the thermal pad & how to re-apply a new one.
Thanks a million for all your help

  • HP Omni 10 5600 Tablet won't boot after BIOS update

The tablet is not loaded (boot) after update bios. The screen was dark during update bios in windows 8.1, there is vibration when you press the power button 5-10sec. Or vibration when you press the touch button Win.  Help please.
Tell me at least what type of BIOS
What is the shortcut key startup recovery Bios?

I had a similar issue. Hold the power button for approximatel 6-10 seconds and see if you see the anything on the screen. It worked for me. Also try and connect a usb keyboard if you have one.
I would do this with the power supply plugged in to the tablet as well. Good luck.

  • Laptop won't boot after BIOS Update

My laptop took an automatic BIOS update
Now when I try to turn on my computer it won't turn on:
    Screen is black
Power button and f12 button lights flash at 5 second intervals indefintiely
At the same interval a fan or hard drive can be heard spinning for a split second then stopping
I've tried the hard reset (Remove power and battery fo 5+ minutes, plug in power but no battery and turn on) but no affect.
The Windows key + B key with the power button for 1 second had no affect either.
I can't find any info with my exact problem (All other info seems to have blinking light codes while mine is just at a constant interval)
    Thanks!

    @B1-17 ,
Thank you for posting back.  Now based on how you are explaining the response you are getting after doing what you have done so far the next step will be to try and get a response with removing some components and then see what kind or response you get.
Here are the steps you want to follow.
First remove your memory from you notebook.  Here is a link for the Maintenance Manual that will show you how to do this.
(When Removing Or Adding Any Part To Your Notebook. Remove Battery and Power Cord.)
    1) Remove bother Memory Modules.  Put the power cord back in only.
    2) Start your notebook and see if a new flash code or beep code happens.
    3) If yes place only one memory module back in to your notebook and try rebooting.
    4) If you boot up then we have a bad stick of memory.
    5) If you still have a flash or beep code. Remove the single memory module and try the other.
    6) If this lets you boot up.  Replace memory module that is not in the notebook.
    7) If you still have the original problem or a new beep code.  Power down again.
    8) Now remove power cord then the hard drive.   Use Maintenance and Service Guide for instructions.
    9) Try booting up again and see if this changes the original flash code or beep code.
    10) If yes then replace hard drive if no then contact phone support for repair options.
At this point if there is no change in the original flash or beep code you are looking at a repair.  For information on how to get your system repaired please contact our phone support.

  • Won't boot after bios update

My HP Envy 15 - j028TX did a bios update and when I turned the power on later would not boot. I can hear the fan, power button works but nothing comes on the screen at all. No beeps are heard, the caps lock button flashes twice and the f12 button stays on. I've done a hard reset, any suggestions.

Blink code indicated BIOS corruption. Try Roll back of BIOS:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=uk&lc=en&docname=c02693833
You have to try this many times, the timing of holding the keys together is very important 1-3 seconds.
If that doesn't work I'd probably affected your hardware, you may have to contact HP.

  • Edge 15 won't boot after BIOS upgrade

    Hi everyone.
I have a Lenovo Edge 15 and I recently (as in, this morning) tried to upgrade the Bios from the support site for the Haswell i5.
I downloaded the exe, let it run and received the notification that my computer would restart. I just it do it's thing, it goes into the BIOS and appears to be install the bios fine, and then I receive a notice my laptop would restart.
But, once it restarted, it set went into a boot menu. I select the HDD where my OS is installed but the screen goes blank and then (appearantly after restarting) goes back to the boot screen.
I can get into the BIOS fine but I cannot get past the boot menu.
I tried opening my laptop, disconnecting the battery and the CMOS battery (I think it's a CMOS battery), plugged/put them back in and I still have the same issue.
Any ideas as to what the issues is?

hey, i have run into the exactly same issue with my Omni 10 - Win 8. there was a BIOS update available in the HP Assistant app, i installed it and rebooted. Now no display on boot. On pressing the power button, i just get a usual small vibreation of the tablet switching on, and then nothing happens. the vibreation keeps repeating every 10-15 seconds. there is no display. i have tried with power+vol up and also power+ vol down button combos, but it just keeps vibrating every 10-15 seconds with no display. was a solution found for this?

  • T450s won't boot after bios update

Just got my new t450s yesterday.  Booted it up today and connected to the internet.  Lenovo widget popped up and told me there was an update.  It said there was a new bios update. I walked through the UI steps and it installed the new bios and then went to reboot the machine.  Machine did not post.  Any attempt to power on gets a blank screen and 2 short beeps, pause, 3 short beeps.  The Green light on the power button is currently gently pulsing.  pressing and holding the power button does nothing.  Tried unpluging and replugging both the battery and the AC adaptor and no change.  help?

Guys, I just faced the same issue. My T450s was delivered to me this afternoon. I got it home and plugged it in and was prompted for the BIOS update while I was updating Windows. Went through the UI and the machine did not come up after shutting down for the update. I found this post online and tried to factory reset but did not get a response again. Things were getting crazy and I decided to try and remove the external battery and let it drain down. But I just thought of trying the factory reset after the external battery was removed and it worked!! The machine has booted up and went straight into installing the Windows updates and I found that the BIOS has been successfully updated too. Really weird!  Seems to be running fine now. But a scary way to start off!
