PC Won't boot now! D bracket showing all 4 leds red!

Ok this has got me stumped, on top of all my fan speed problems now that I have installed Windows 7 Ultimate x64, last night I found that my PC now WON'T BOOT AT ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!! ? The D bracket is now showing all red leds, which according to the manual, it means either the CPU is damaged or CPU is not seated correctly. But how can this be? I haven't even touched the CPU!?
Anyway, I have already tried removing the heat sink and reseating the cpu but it is still showing all 4 red leds.
This morning I tried booting it again but now I noticed that it is showing 2 red and 2 orange leds. What does the orange colour indicate?
I've also tried clearing the CMOS - no change.
I am completely at a loss now as to how my PC can all of a sudden just become totally unusable!? Is it the fault of Windows 7? Does Windows 7 somehow require more power to the CPU which may have fried it?
What can I do now?

Have you tried another processor?  With your fan issues it concerns me the processor my have gotten too hot.
Yes, this is certainly a possibility and I haven't ruled this out yet. However the problem is trying to find someone with another socket 939 cpu and mobo. I know someone who has a Shuttle PC but he majorly cbfed taking it apart and trying my cpu out.
But even if the processor got too hot, why is the D Bracket showing 2 red and 2 orange leds. Shouldn't it be showing all 4 as red? That's why I still believe the BIOS maybe corrupted as well.
Anyway, I'm getting in a technician today so hopefully he will be able to try it out somehow.

I called Apple and spoke with a customer service representative regarding this issue. I was given the two things to try, and if they don't work, I was told I can call back in:
    1. Go to iCloud.com and look at the advanced options. Since Photos can be deleted here, the representative thought there may be an option to remove songs here as well.
    2. Go into the library that has the songs that were deleted and click Update iTunes match.
I tried #1--this didn't resolve the issue, as there is no option to remove songs this way. I can't try #2 right now since I'm at work, but if anybody else with this issue can try that step it can help us get the ball rolling on it. After I try that, I'll call Apple back to discuss this further.

  • Oh, shoot! My MacBook won't boot! Silver screen is all I see!

Oh, shoot! My MacBook won't boot! Silver screen is all I see

    Try a PRAM reset:
    Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.
Any unusual noises coming from it?

  • New K8T Neo won't boot. D-Bracket LEDs show nothing.

I just bought my first AMD based system, maybe I forgot to do something? I've read the manual but I don't feel that I've missed anything.
Anyway I've connected the ATX 12V & the ATX 20-Pin Power Connectors. I also connected that D-Bracket thingy, a GeForce2MX and one 512MB Ram in DDRslot 1. I have no harddrives or anything else connected, I just want to see if my system works.
When I try to boot the FANs go on but that's it.
The leds on the D-Bracket shows nothing.
I get nothing on my monitor.
I can only turn the computer off by disconnecting the power cable.
I've tried to unplug->plug it back together. No luck.   I've also tried it with no RAM at all = no difference.

Is my PSU too weak or may something be broken?

UPDATE: My MB was offically defective

My manual says Release Date: September 2003.
I have IDE info @ 2-21 in my manual. Power LED flashing info in "Front Panel Connectors: JFP1 & JFP2" section.
    What the grey power-led-flash-box says:
    "MSI Reminds You...
If the Power LED on the front panel flashes every two seconds, this signal tells you that one of the power connection has been protected; if the Power LED flashes every one second, it tells you the CPU has been protected due to overheating. To refresh the system, please disconnect the power cable from the computer, and then reconnect the power cable to the computer again in at least five seconds."
D-Bracked shows no lights at all. There's two ways to connect the D-Bracked and I tried them both. My fans works perfectly everytime I boot.   Too bad they are the only things that work though

  • TS1367 my mac pro won't boot up, it keeps showing the circle but then shuts off.  I've disconnected everything and it keeps doing the same thing.

I have a mac pro desktop and it won't boot up, it keeps freezing at the circle and then appears to be loading and then it shuts off.  I've turned it off and disconnected everything and reconnect and it does the same thing.

I wasn't aware PRAM batteries did any charging
Apple has used rechargeable batteries for volatile storage for some time.
and just 'held' information in NVRAM and PRAM when needed and there was no power coming in
I can't see data held in NVRAM/PRAM doing something like keeping time without some power. One can't assume a permanent Internet connection to update it when the system is turned on now can we?
I assume it is on a 1000VA UPS that has good battery and fully charged too, and didn't discharge during the vacation
If the UPS was turned off it's as good as being totally unplugged so it may well have still been at 100% upon return. There's no power delivery when the UPS is off remember.

  • Macbook Pro won't boot from any partition, at all

I tried updating an Early 2008 Intel-based Macbook pro to a clean install of Mavericks with a bootable USB drive, once in the startup manager, it would show the USB as an "EFI BOOT". and trying to access the EFI BOOT just gives me a prohibited sign
The boot copy of Mavericks was installed with Disk Utility, so it shouldn't have had any problems.
So I thought, "I'll completely erase the HD and try again". Did that, and still, "EFI BOOT".
Next thing I did was ditch the USB method, and go for brute force, booted the Mac in Target Disk Mode, and through firewire I was able to install Mavericks into the HD of that Mac, using my brother's Early 2008 intel-based Macbook pro. The clean install worked, it made the recovery partition with no problem. Next thing I know, upon booting the laptop, after restarting it from Target Disk Mode, the darn computer decides to give me the "no boot device found" dreaded Question-Mark-on-a-folder sign. So I restarted the thing to the Startup Manager, and both partitions showed up, I tried both partitions, and no luck, same Question Mark Sign-Thing, not even the recovery booted.
So on target disk mode again, I made 2 partitions, one with a bootable mavericks EDM, and the other one, free space, Mac OS Journaled, ready for the OS installation. So that it would install it by itself, to itself. Upon restarting and accessing the Startup Manager, the bootable partition I had created, was seen, but clicking on it would just give me the question mark.
I shrank the partition on the other macbook to make a bootable firewire device on the other mac, and that partition also said "EFI BOOT" when clicked on.
I burned a recovery DVD to boot from it, and it won't boot from it. Every time I try to boot from something, all I get is the question-mark-on-a-folder-sign.
I disassembled the laptop, got the HD out, tried installing straight into it via USB, and was not able to access it using an external HD case, the power light comes on, and right back off.
PRAM and SMC have been Reset.
    any ideas?

When I removed it, it was to install mavericks into it, via usb, with the other macbook, through disk utility, but disk utility was unable to read it then.
And yes, I am able to boot from that HD, on the other macbook, either through firewire or USB... I've verified that it is working fine, no sounds, no clicks, no scratching noises.

  • Need some help, system won't boot now.

Yesterday, I was having trouble getting WinXP installed on my SATA drive...after I tried some stuff to no avail, I decided to call it a night.  When I got up, I went to boot up the system and now all that happens is the 1 LED light flashes and the CD-ROM LED light flashes(and even these don't happen all the time).  Nothing else happens, fans don't start etc.  So I need some help on troubleshooting this prob.  When I do start it up, the D-bracket LEDs flash 4 red also, just flash like the other LED lights.  My first guess would be that the PSU is dead?  My PSU is a Antec Truepower 380W.  Any help is much appreciated.

Believe Bas; As he is 100% Correct, as even 18 Amps is not anywhere enough on the +12V Rail nowadays, I mean I think the New "Minimum" Should be No Less than 25 Amps on the +12V Rail, With these new Powerful Vidio Cards, that Require thier own "Molex" Power Supply Connected to them (As most of these Top Nvidia FX, and ATI Pro's) Need and they can demand up to 6 Amps themselves, I mean, these Cards Have 400 and 550MHZ GPU's on them with over 100 Million Transistors, Not to mention the Extra 256MB of High Speed Graphics memory, Add this with a New 64BIT CPU, and a Sound Card, and a Couple of S-ATA's in RAID, And the 1GIG of High Speed System RAM, and you Are At or Over 18 Amps Already , And we are not even talking CD and DVD's or the At least 4 Fans that you should have ...Yep I for one say the Day's of the 18 Amp Min. Rating for the +12V Rail are Gone Forever...Why do you think that all the Really Good PSu's have At Least 30 Amp Ratings on thier +12V Rails......And in the Case of Enermax, They even went as Far to Start Building thier PSU's With 2 (Dual) +12V Rails ...Thats right, Now they have a +12V-1, and a +12V-2 , Now the CPU gets it's OWN Dedicated +12V Rail, and the System Gets the +12V-2 Rail.......I just got the new Enermax for my 3RD Rig that I'm Building (Dual Opteron 248) Rig , with Bas's Help of Coarse.....But For $99.00 US  It was the Best Money spent yet, so much, for a little Price, as the Antec Units are More expensive...And I hear that they are doing a little Cheating on thier Amp Ratings these Days ..Ask "Wonk" he will tell you...  ..............Sean REILLY875

  • Out of nowhere logic application won't BOOT now - can't see my XSKEY?

running an imac G5 - just put 10.4.6 on it (maybe that has something to do with it).
logic has been working fine until now. went to double click on the boot icon and i get the "Welcome to Logic Pro 7" dialogue box that asks me if i want to run it in demo mode or quit. there is no demo mode.
i checked my USB ports and they work fine. my computer has no problem seeing my iLok key for my waves authorizations.
i have some critical deadlines for audio work coming up fast and i can't open the application.
why is this happening? what do i do? aside from the new operating system nothing has changed on my computer. has this happened to anyone else?
    thanks for your help
    graham

    thanks for the help, everybody!
still no luck. i've tried various ports, which i don't think is the issue, as my iLok key reads perfectly for the waves authorization in, say, ableton live or any other app...
how do i reauthorize the xskey dongle again? i remember a website... has oneone done this before with good results? what's the process involve?
also, is there an actual phone number to speak to a real live human (ideally, a logic pro specialist) about this problem. i can't find anything on the apple site or my logic books... ever since emagic was dissolved the customer service (logic specific - not justy some generic apple help line) has gone with it...
    thanks again

  • Won't boot from anything and shows flashing ? and Finder/Folder icon

What do I do to fix this? Thank you guys!

I'm trying to help but your answers and the information you've given isn't clear at all. If the answers to these questions weren't necessary I wouldn't ask them. If you're trying to boot with an older OS it won't work and that's not a hardware issue.
Yes, you have a hardware issue but since you don't want to supply any information neither I or anyone else can help you troubleshoot it.
    Good luck.

  • MBP Stutter, Screen Freeze, Won't Boot Now

Today when using my MBP, the screen stuttered and then froze.  I rebooted and it worked fine for the next 4 hours. I got to my hotel, it booted fine and did the stutter again. Now when I reboot it has a hundred really thin horizontal lines on the logo screen and when it tried to load past that, it just stays a white screen. Currently out traveling for work so can't take it into a store. Does anyone have any tips or advice to fix this or know what's going bad?

Horizontal lines then white screen? Logic board, monitor cable.
Have you done a SMC reset yet? however does it default to white screen now permanently?
    Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
That is likely either the monitor cable, or logic board, possible GPU fault, or the monitor itself.
Yes, you will need an appt. with Apple store for diagnosis specifics as to actual fault.
You have a 1 year warr. on your Air for factory faults / defects due to normal use, ..is it a recent purchase?
Nobody here can give you a cost...if out of warranty, if merely the monitor cable, then it is rather a cheap fix,..... if logic board or monitor, rather costly indeed.

  • IMac G5 failed 10.5 update - won't boot now, spinning wheel

Please help, I bought my mom an iPad because she broke both ankles and is gonna be bed ridden for several weeks, and needed some way to get email, etc.
She has an iMac g5 2ghz non iSight. The iPad needs to be plugged into iTunes to work the first time, but her iMac had 10.4 on it. Well, iTunes requires 10.5 or higher. So i upgraded it and somewhere in the middle the update failed (I suspect a bad DVD). The computer wanted to restart, and since then, it will not boot, just a gray screen with apple logo, and the forever spinning wheel of frustration. I ran through the 10.5 installer again (this time using a different disk and it seemed to complete, and when it restarted at the end, same thing - spinning wheel, not happy.
So I boot off the OS x install DVD, run disk utilities, repair disk finds no errors, repair permissions says one minute remaining but never finishes, it ran all night long and I finally just gave up and turned it off this morning.
I have come to the conclusion that I will be formatting the HD tonight after work. But I need to get all her pictures, emails, and contact list off that drive first. I figure I'll use my old G4 (10.4 I think?) and put her iMac into target disk mode, and hopefully mount the drive to the G4 with the FireWire cable (I pray this works otherwise... Cry)
My main question, please help me out in locating her address book / contact list. She uses the Mac mail app for email. What files and/or folders do I need to copy so that once I format, I can (hopefully) just copy those folders back to the freshly installed OS 10.5, and theoretically make it seem like nothing happened.
Also, any suggestions anyone can offer me that don't involve formatting would be appreciated... But mostly, just need to figure what I need to backup.
Thanks so much, it's been a very difficult few days, and the added stress of this computer is just no good for the entire situation.

Copy her User (home) folder and Applications folder and you should have everything she needs.

  • 10.5.2 upgrade Macbook Pro won't boot now.

I upgraded to 10.5.2 last night on a new Macbook Pro that i bought a couple of months ago. When it boots up, i get the blue scree with the spinning indicator like its trying to do something. I left it on the screen all night, and nothing! What do i do to fix it so i can log back in?

I just installed 10.5.2 via software update on a Mac Mini here at work (a machine upgraded from 10.4.11).
After installing the update the computer rebooted itself 5 times before it eventually came back up. Scary to say the least.
If I were you I would try unplugging everything and booting up, or try booting up in safe mode (hold shift when you turn on the machine).

  • Mac won't boot now - no options work

I installed the latest updates for Lion this afternoon and then it said to restart - so I did. The screen went black and they a grey screen (with no apple) appeared for aboit 5 minutes, then the apple appeared and it spun for about 3 minutes and then I got the screen where you pick which language you want. I select english and it gives me the Mac OS X Utilities where my options are:
    restore from time machine backup
    reinstall mac os x
    get help online
    disk utility
I read everything in the get help document and tried all the options it said - reinstalling lion didn;t work because the only disk that was listed for reinstall was locked and could not be selected.
I don't have a time machine back up
when I trying reparing the drive with the disk utility the 750GB Apple HDD drive repairs fine but the partition labeled disk0s2 (which is just there - I did not create it) the first red message is
    Invalid B-tree node size
THe volume could not be verified completely
then Error: Disk utility can't repair this disk. Back up as many of your files as possible, reformat the disk, and restore your backed up files.
I can't back anything up because I can't get into the computer. It seems the update fried my hard drive maybe? I've online had this computer 5 months...HELP please!!

I'm having a similar problem too. After accepting the update my MacBook rebooted on its own and a blank gray screen came up with just a small wheel that spun clockwise (not the multi-colored wheel) and no Apple icon. It stayed on this blank screen for about 45 minutes. At which time I believed something was wrong. So I held down the power button to restart the Mac and the gray screen came back up, but this time with the Apple logo. I have a cursor (arrow) but there's nothing for me to click on.
What am I supposed to do from here? Did this latest update just mess up my entire computer? Is Apple following in the footsteps of Windows?

  • Iphoto library on external hard drive now does not show all the photos when i access it from macbook

i backed up iphoto library to an external hard drive.  Deleted photo library on the macbook.  After transferring some new photos to macbook from a camera, when i access the iphoto library on external hard drive only the new photos show up.  Originals are still in files, but don't appear when opening iphoto library on external hard drive.

Make a temporary, backup copy of your library if you don't already have one (Control-click on the library and select Duplicate from the contextual menu) and  apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.
