PC won't recognise iPod but Dock will

Hi There
I've tried to sync my iPod recently but none of my PCs seem to recognise it, the iPod just stays as it would be if you hadn't plugged it in. Where as, if I put it in my docking station, it's fine. It charges and plays music as usual. Does anyone know why?
Thanks

Could it be due to the recent iTunes update as I've just updated it and since then my iPod hasn't been working? :S

When I plug in my iPod a Windows folder comes up, showing the folders within the iPod, but iTunes doesn't recognize that it is connected. I have the latest iTunes(5.0) and iPod software. What's going on here?

  • Itunes won't recognize ipod, but computer will

my ipod recently crashed, and I lost all my songs. At first, whenever I plugged it in, it would be super slow, and it would show up on the computer as this white thing, i'm not sure what it is, but not the ipod icon. Now, after I set my ipod on disk mode, it shows up on the computer as my ipod, but still it does not appear under the devices in itunes. Usually, when you plug in an ipod, itunes automatically comes up, but it took a really long time for it finally to appear.
    Any ideas?
    help would be greatly appreciated!

  • ITunes does recognise iPod, but...

Well, I got an iPod Click Wheel (4th generation). Recently I've intalled the new iTunes 7.0.2, and when I connect my iPod to the computer, the comp. does recognise iPod, but my iTunes just freeze. Only when I unplug the iPod (even though there's still the warnin' 'Do not disconnect'), there's this message from iTunes
"iTunes cannot read the contents of the iPod. Go to the Summary tab in iPod preferences and click Restore to restore the iPod to factory settings."
There is indeed an iPod tab in the iTunes, but that appear only after I've unplugged iPod.
When I click OK to the message above, the iPod tab also disappear, as there's no more iPod connected.
I tried to restore by the iPod updater, but there's always an 'error message', which means that I can't use it.
What should I do? I'm desperately wantin' to update many new songs to my iPod!

    CerealKiller:
It appears I have a hardware problem with my 2nd gen Nano that is compounding this issue, but in talking with Apple Support, they have suggested that I unplug my USB printer, reboot, then use the Nano and iTunes (once I get the new Nano.
I read with interest your suggestion that the drive designation for the iPod be changed. If, once I get the new Nano and my PC recognizes it, will changing the drive designation eliminate the need to unplug the printer and reboot every time I want to sync the Nano, in your opinion?
I also use USB connections for an external hard drive for back up, and flash card reader for my camera. Are you aware of any other USB related drive conflicts? THANKS!

I can start my iPod but it will only stay on the Apple icon screen for 5 minutes and then shuts off, what do I do to fix this problem?

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • I spilled a little bit of soda on my keyboard ( more like big drops) and my computer won't turn on but it will still charge.  After i spilled it it kept trying to turn on and off by itself until i finally just shut it down

I spilled a little bit of soda on my keyboard ( more like big drops) and my computer won't turn on but it will still charge.  After i spilled it it kept trying to turn on and off by itself until i finally just shut it down.  Today i tried to turn it back on ( i spilled it last night) and now it won't turn on but when i plug it in the orange light comes on so it still charges.

TBF: You may have been lucky enough not to cripple your MBP immediately with your spill, but a spill such as you describe will have left obvious traces if you ever need to take your machine in for a repair of any kind. And as soon as evidence of the spill is found, any chance of the necessary repairs being performed under warranty will be gone.
Taking the machine in now to be cleaned and have the greasy parts replaced will be expensive, but doing so may save whatever remains of your warranty. For a price, Apple will restore the machine to like-new condition, and at the very least, you will then have a 90-day repair warranty on it. If you have significantly more time than that remaining on your original one-year warranty, and especially if you've bought the extended AppleCare Protection Plan, it would probably be worth taking the machine in to a Genius Bar for a look-over. Ask whether, if you have Apple clean and repair the machine now, your new-computer warranty and AppleCare plan will be reinstated afterward or whether all you'll have is the short repair warranty from now on. If the spill will negate your warranty and AppleCare even if you have Apple clean it, then the cleaning probably isn't worth paying for. But if paying for the cleaning will get your warranty and AppleCare reinstated, it may be worth doing.

  • Car won't recognise ipod

Have had my 30gb ipod in my Audi S3 for nearly 2 years now with no problem. But since i connected it to my pc to add some new music and it autoupdated the software, the car won't recognise it when i connect it. The car recognises my daugher's nano OK but its only got miley cyrus & the jonas brothers on it so i'd rather drive with a knitting needle up by a* than listen to that!
Can any of you boffins help me out please??
    Thanks in advance, Dave

The Shuffle doesn't offer audio output through USB. It only has the four conductors needed for either USB (charge and sync) *or* headphone audio+controls, and can't do both functions at the same time. You would need a Nano, Classic or Touch (with a lightning port or dock connector) to get that feature.
Or, if your stereo also offers an AUX audio input, you could connect your Shuffle using an audio cable with e "headphone" plug at both ends. Note that this will not charge the iPod at all,

  • Itunes won't recognise Ipod touch 5G

So this is for my friend who has a 5G, but her Itunes won't recognise the ipod touch 5G, but windows can recognise it, Itunes says to reset the Ipod touch, and she has done this before, and now again it won't recognise it, so she has to reset it, and this is quite annoying her, as resetting takes a long time. my friend had a 4G before, and had no problems with this, she sold the 4G to get the 5G. She has a window 7 laptop. I've tried several ways but it hasn't solved it.
What can we do to solve it ?

iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Mac OS X
    or
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
You need iTunes 11.1 or later on the computer.

  • HT4235 Bought an ipod but it will not sync with itunes.  Diagnostics passes everything but the sync test says "no ipod found" even though the computer shows it and itunes shows it but is still doesn't sync.

I purchased an ipod shuffle (5th generation I think).  It is recognized by the computer and recognized by itunes but will not sync with itunes.  Ran diagnostics and all passed but when it got to the sync test, it says "ipod touch, iphone, or ipad found".  When I put on earphones, it tells me to sync with itunes.  But it will not.  What a person to do?

  • Itunes for mac won't recognize ipod but iTunes on parallels will

Just upgraded itunes to 10.5 and purchased a new ipod classic (160gb). All my music is on my old macbook, but itunes won't recognize that the ipod is attached. Finder will, but iTunes won't. However, when I run iTunes in parallels desktop on the same mac, it recognizes the iPod and asks to sync. How do I get the mac itunes to recognize the ipod?

Sorry for the late response. I realised my notifications are off. I've tried that. All my software is up to date, setting for wifi sync are all checked off. I spent 1 hour on the phone with Apple with no results. Most threads are about Windows PC. I run a a MacBook. Variables could be my Linksys router but i/ve played with the firewall settings and nothing. I have a range extender but all devices are using the same network. Any final ideas?

  • My apple account won't  accept my credit card on the ipod but it will on the computer , PLEASE help!!!

please help my ipod will accept the credit card on the computer but not on the ipod touch now i cant download apps or anything please help, thanks!

Make sure that the account that you are using on the iPod Touch is indeed the same as on your computer. Check Settings > Store and see that the Apple IDs are the same. If you are using different accounts you may have different credit card information on the two accounts.
If you can't figure this out contact the Apple Store. See Apple Store Customer Service on this web page: http://www.apple.com/contact/
