PC won't recognize both my iPhone 4s

I have two iPhone 4s and both are no longer recognized by my HP desktop. I was able to do a back up on both last month but now when I go to the Device Manager they aren't even listed. There is no error or any sign that they are connected. I am connecting to a USB on the back of the desktop with the original cord and have tried all the troubleshooting listed here http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1495.  I am at a total loss of where to go from here.

Try resetting all settings/ restore the phone. But be sure to backup. These steps are the usual resolutions. I don't really know anything else that would solve this issue. I'm trying to look for an article for this but it didn't help. Maybe you can try searching youtube forums.

    Hi TakesTwo2Tango,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.  It sounds like you should definitely be seeing a plus sign after tapping Edit, so I would try a couple relatively easy things (closing the Music app, resetting the iPhone):

  • ITunes won't recognize that my iPhone is plugged in

I hadn't used my MacBook Pro in a month or so, so I thought I'd check iTunes for updates and update/sync my iPhone. However, when I plugged the USB cable into my Mac, nothing ever popped up in iTunes recognizing that anything was plugged in. I tried the other USB ports with the same result.
Does anyone have any hints or suggestions? I'd greatly appreciate it!

Ditto-here. All of a sudden, iphone is not recognized. I did the latest update of itunes and still not recognized. Any help is appreciated.

  • ITunes won't recognize ipod or iphone

I have reinstalled itunes 9.2.1 a number of times on my macbook to correct the issue as per the support suggestions but after a few connects and disconnects it stops working again. iTunes will not load up any device. I reinstalled 10.6.4 from scratch and it still drops the devices after a couple of sync attempts and I have to reinstall iTunes.
Is this a known bug or does anyone have a suggestion
    Thank

  • ITunes won't recognize either my iPhone nor iPod Touch

... But my computer does. USB works fine in everything else(other computers to charge, wall plug in, car), tried a different port, uninstalled iTunes and re-installed, even reset my iPod to factory settings but it still won't connect. I checked my download history between the period of when it was last working to now to make sure there wasn't anything weird in it, and there's nothing. I have Windows 8.
I just ran a 'program compatibility troubleshooter' test and it says that the issue is an 'incompatible program'. When I click for detailed information, it says that iTunes is the incompatible program.

iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
    - I would start with
Removing and Reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows XP
    or
Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
However, after your remove the Apple software components also remove the iCloud Control Panel via Windows Programs and Features app in the Window Control Panel. Then reinstall all the Apple software components
    - New cable and different USB port
    - Run this and see if the results help with determine the cause

  • ITunes & iPhoto suddenly won't recognize my iPhone 4S

I've made some purchases recently both in and out of iTunes, so I decided I wanted to download them to my phone this morning. I plugged in my iPhone 4S (v7.1.2) and opened iTunes (v11.3), but iTunes wouldn't recognize the phone, even after I rebooted the phone, checked the cable, rebooted and reinstalled iTunes, etc.
My phone is charging, so my MacBook (which is running Mavericks OS 10.9.4) is definitely connecting to it.
But when I tried iPhoto, it won't recognize my phone, either. I rechecked the cable. It seems to be fine. I even tried a new cable. No dice.
What's going on? Anyone else experience this? It's the first time since I first starting using iPhones in 2008 that I've ever had this kind of problem.
    Thanks in advance!

What do you mean OS X won't allow you to uninstall iTunes?
Very rarely is needing to uninstall iTunes on a Mac before reinstalling required as is required with the spagetti code involved with Windoze.

See the chart below to determine whether you can upgrade your device and what you can upgrade to. If you do not have a Software Update option present on your iDevice, then you are trying to upgrade to iOS 5 or higher. You will have to connect your device to your computer and open iTunes in order to upgrade.

iTunes 11.3 won't recognize either of my iphones.  Need help!

    Hi rickthegolfer123,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I know it can be frustrating when your iPhone is not recognized in iTunes. There are some good troubleshooting steps however to help you get this resolved. The steps may be different depending if you are using an Apple computer or a Windows computer so I will include both articles.

  • Itunes 8.2.1 won't recognize my 3.0 iPhone

Version 8.2.1 is buggy. I am not the only user who is finding that this version of iTunes no longer recognizes my 3.0 iPhone. Occasionally it won't recognize my iPod Classic until I restart my iMac (circa 2007). My iPhone software is up to date (version 8.0.4 released on 06/30/2009).
    I have:
    Deleted iTunes 8.2.1
    Shut off iTunes helper.
As per an Apple Document on this issue (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1747)
    I have deleted AppleMobileDevice.kext and
    I have deleted AppleMobileDeviceSupport.pkg
    I have emptied the trash
    Then restarted the iMac
    Then reinstalled iTunes 8.2.1
It did not recognize my iPhone
    restarted the iMac again
It did not recognize my iPhone
Apple, where can I get a copy of iTunes 8.2.0. Everything worked with that one.

Thank you, Matt. Actually I did turn up that site in my initial search. Thing is the old itune versions are for Windows and Vista. I'm on an iMac. Have not found an old version for OSX.
Anyhow, I did solve my problem. I had connected to the iMac through a USB hub. When I connected the iPhone and iPod classic directly to the iMac itself, itunes recognized the devices. Oddly, it did not detect them on the more modern USB cable that came with the iPhone 3.0, but with an older, larger cable that came with the iPod classic. Go figure.
The recent software update for the iPhone, supposedly to fix an issue with texting, has returned both iPhone and iPod to their former state and I am able again to connect through a hub (after a couple of iMac restarts -- what else in new!)
Thanks for the reply. My question seems not to be a popular one. I wonder if the connection problem is as widespread as I thought.
