PC wont recognize iphone4 after restore failure trying to upgrade to OS5

After trying to upgrade to OS5, I received a failure notice on the restore and it said to update my Windows7 and restart. Now my PC will not recognize the iphone as a device in MyComputer or in iTunes.  The phone just displays the illustration screen asking to USB connect to iTunes.  I've tried a hard reset on the phone but it doesn't help.  It's not the computer's USB port, I've tested that...  Help?

Did you see the very end of this about not having enough space left on your computer specific to therror code 3014?
Errors 3000-3999 (3004, 3013, 3014, 3018, 3164, 3194, and so on): Error codes in the 3000 range generally mean that iTunes cannot contact the update server (gs.apple.com) on ports 80 or 443.
Update to the latest version of iTunes.
Verify the computer's date and time are accurate.
Check that your security or firewall software is not interfering with ports 80 or 443, or with the server gs.apple.com.
Follow Troubleshooting security software. Often, uninstalling third-party security software will resolve these errors.
An entry in your hosts file may be redirecting requests to gs.apple.com (see "Unable to contact the iOS software update server gs.apple.com" above).
Internet proxy settings can cause this issue. If you are using a proxy, try without using one.
Test restoring while connected to a known-good network.
Error 3002: If you experience this error while updating an iPod touch (2nd generation) or iPhone 3G, please use the standard update or restore process in iTunes (click Update or Restore).
Error 3014 may indicate that you need to free up more disk space on the computer before trying to restore again.

  • MBP wont recognize drives after replacing SATA cable

Background:  I decided to replace my existing drive with a SSD.  While in the process of replacing the drive, like a morron, I picked up the drive too fast and ripped the SATA cable.  Stupid, I know.  So I ordered a replacement.  Hooked up the replacement without any trouble, fired it up, the computer wont recognize any drives, formatted or not, SSD or HDD.  So I thought "great, terrible luck, I must have gotten a bad cable."  So I contacted the seller and they were kind enough to overnight me a new one.  Hooked up the new one, same **** problem.
What on earth is going on here?  The computer worked great before I ripped that cable, and now it's like it's just given up on reading drives all together.  Is there anything I can try?
    Please help!  :/
(MBP is a mid 2010 if relevant)

Ok then you either have bad cables or you are not installing it correctly. Like not seating it properly on the logic board.
There is also a piece of foam on the top of the part that connects to the logic board. If you did not move that foam from the original to the replacements it could be shorting to the bootom case.

  • Ipod touch wont sync music after restore/update

i recently came back from the apple store after trying to update my ipod to 4.2 and running across many errors. finally, my ipod is working again however as it had to be restored i have to sync everything back onto it. The apps, photos and videos synced fine but when it tries to sync music, itunes freezes right away. it will say syncing whatever song and it just stops. First, the number of songs and what song it syncs first seems to change every time i sync it. Sometimes it says 1 of 1 sometimes 168 out of 168, when it should be at least over 500 songs. Second, after i let the computer with the frozen itunes sit for a while, it came up with 2 error messages; one saying the song could not be synced because of error -20 i think, the second saying the data couldn't be written onto the ipod and then it froze forever on the finishing syncing bar. i've tried restarting my computer, disconnecting the internet and disabling my firewall. itunes is up to date and so is the ipod obviously. we use ca security center. please help i just want to be able to use my ipod again

the ca security people fixed my problem and its syncing fine. if anyone else has problems syncing while running ca security post on this forum and they will pm you the solution

  • Itunes 9.2 wont recognize iphone4

i have been battling itunes since I bought the iphone4 a few days ago. First, as soon as it noticed the new iphone, it requested i upgraded to 9.2, which I did. The iphone4 then disappeared - not recognized by itunes, not detected in My Computer. I followed the re-installation suggestions (twice) , rebooting, restarting of both iphone and laptop...i also deleted all temp files. Some of this worked very temporarily, because itunes did recognize the iphone 4 for 3 mintues, but it asked if I wanted to recover the old iphone backup data which I said yes. Once it rebooted itself after this, the iphone disappeared in both itunes and mycomputer. I have gone through the whole exercise again, but this time to no avail.
In the troubleshooting, it talks about getting into the Computer Management page and reset the Services - but I was not able to find this tool in my laptop (may be hidden or something)
Net, here I am 4 days later, very happy with the phone but very unhappy about the itunes situation.
    Any help would be appreciated.

I'm not sure if this is related to the installation problems but when I try and activate my iPhone (4g) the iTunes doesn't recognize the phone. It doesn't show up at all.
It could be related. A snarl-up in device filters in the registry can cause issues with both optical drives and USB connections (for example).
My suspicion here is that you've got damaged GEAR drivers for iTunes, and they are interfering with your attempts to install iTunes.
Perhaps try a manual uninstall of ther GEAR drivers (quit iTunes first):
    http://www.gearsoftware.com/wiki/index.php?title=DRIVERS:Windows_-_Updating%2C_removing%2C_64_bit_versions%2Cetc
... and then try reinstalling iTunes. Does the reinstall go through any better?

  • Computer wont recognize iphone4

I recentley purchased a new HP laptop with windows 7 on it. When i plug my iphone 4s into it, the computer wont recognized it, it just keeps making the noise like something is being plugged in over and over. When i plug in my girlfriends iphone 5 the computer recognizes it right away. I have tried all the usa ports on the laptop and multiple USB cords. any advice will help. thanks

Yes the latest version is installed. And when I plug my iphone 5 in iTunes will pop up and try and sync. But when I plug in an iPhone 4 or iPhone 4S the computer or iTunes will not recognize it. With different USB ports and different usb plugs.
    Thanks

does anybody have an idea ?? i'm leaving on holiday in a few hours and i really would like to take the ipod with me loaded with songs

    tx for this.
unfortunately it didn't help me... i tried the whole list.
even on another computer the ipod is not recognized.
the strange thing is that, 10min ago, i unplugged it and replugged it and it was recognized during 10 seconds !!! the "do not disconnect" screen appeared on the ipod and a new disk appeared too... but that was just for 10sec...

  • Imac wont start up after power failure

i moved the table my imac was on and i accidentally took off the power cable.the imac was on so when i took the cable off it shut off. then i put the cable back and tried to turn it on but nothing happened..it is like dead. any suggestions?

Also, there is a small battery or capacitor on the logic board that may need to be replaced, as this has been the cause of a similar issue over many generations of Mac computer hardware. Of course there are other causes of failure, and that is why the help of an expert to troubleshoot and diagnose issues to attempt to resolve them can take time.
And it may not be resolved after the first attempt if the actual problem is deeper than first best educated guess arrived by troubleshooting. Part of some repairs requires replacement of suspect parts, even if they may not be the cause, to eliminate their being within the realm of possibility. A good read is among the original Apple Technical Service Manuals, those aren't often available to the general public. I used one to self-troublehoot an iMac under AppleCare after the nearby 200+ miles one-way distant 'specialist' could not fix my new iMac, four times. So I am a bit cool on newer Macs; the way I see it one new headache lasting 10 months and requiring 3,000 miles travel, to not be resolved by experts (and under warranty, so I can't touch it!?!) is enough.
The best cure for main power failure, is to have a good high quality battery backup system in place with automatic voltage regulation, that also works as a power filter; and can step in to isolate the Mac from mains high-or-low power fluctuation. This can save many products from bad power sources; do not rely on these, either. Make copies of your work ahead of time. This saves your computer from issues you can prevent.
PS: my Macs seldom are shut off, for up to 11 months, some of mine only get to sleep when not in use. When the main power goes offline, during a storm or extended utility failure of their own making, I will have to shut them off as a choice. There is software in the UPS unit that can help shut down automatically, and that is a choice, too. I usually find their software problematic on occasion; and the battery backup is not very long in duration, so one with a few hours runtime and a method of rationing the power if you are present when the mains fail, is helpful in performing a normal shutdown after a power failure.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • My ipod keyboard wont work even after restoring it please help

    please help me!!

If you did not restore to factory defaults/new iPod do that. If yuo are still having problem then an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order. You likely have a hardware problem.
You are not addressing Apple here. We are just users like yourself.

  • Unable to restore when trying to upgrade to 4.3

When I try to upgrade to 4.3 iTunes (correct version) will not restore (error 1013). What to do?

Thought you folks would like to know that I finally fixed my iphone recovery mode 1013 error.  I learned that their are two gs.apple.com servers.  I found out which server I was connecting to and decided to try the other server.  I added the below entry in my hosts files.  I did a recovery and it worked.  NOW, what on earth is going on with apple gs.apple.com server 17.112.176.11?   gs.apple.com 17.151.36.30 worked for me.  Keep in mind, my phone is a normal stock phone with only apple store apps.  my phone is not gail broken and I do not use tiny umbrella or related utilities.Problems began with the release prior to the current one.
