PC wont recognize Ipod.

Specs:
Ipod Touch version 2
Pc, with windows 64 bit installed
At the moment I cannot get my Ipod Touch, itunes, and my pc to work coherently. Without Itunes installed, my Ipod shows up on my PC as an Apple Ipod Digital Camera under My computer. It shows up stating I have 14.3 Gb free of 28.6 (I dont know why its near 29, when its a 16 GB Ipod touch version?) Then there is a DCIM folder which is empty, as my Ipod has nothing on it at the moment.
The problem arises when I install Itunes, and plug in the Ipod. With Itunes installed, the PC doesn't recognise the Ipod anymore. Nothing shows up in my computer and Itunes comes up with 2 different errors.
1.  Error XE8000065
2. Ipod connectivity issues, unresolved conflict.
I have tried reinstalling Itunes to no avail. Any help on this matter would be much appreciated, because right now my Ipod is useless.

  • ITunes 7 wont recognize iPod(s) any more

    Hi there !
Since upgrading to iTunes 7 I've found that iTunes fails to recognize my iPods 90% of the time, and the 10% it does find it, it will disconnect after a few seconds and/or report an error with it. Generally this then causes the iPod to lock up and need a reset.
I have two iPods (2nd gen 20gb and 5th gen 80gb)and they both show similar symptoms on different machines (1 iPod is used exclusively by one PC and the same for the other one).
Initially the 80gb worked fine for a few days, but after fitting a USB mouse things started to go wrong (may be a coincedence but this was the only change I could see). I guess perhaps this caused devices to be reordered on the USB bus and iTunes 7 can't cope with this ?? Removing the mouse though has not fixed the issue.
The 2nd gen 20gb never really worked from the initial upgrade to iTunes 7. Random disconnects and hangs when syncing and generally not showing up in iTunes (could see it in Windows explorer and manually copy files across fine)
In desperation I removed iTunes 7 and went back to version 6 and everything is working fine again !!
Switching back to iTunes 6 just meant I had to wait whilst 60gb of music was rescanned into a library It also means I can't play games on my nice new 80gb iPod which is annoying but I can live with this for a little while...I just hope when all the bugs are ironed out I won't have to pay for the games again !
On the plus side, iTunes 6 is a lot faster than iTunes 7 so I guess in a small way I should be happy.
Has anyone had similar experiences with iTunes 7 not recognizing their iPod ?
    Cheers
    Ted
P.S. I've been through all the troubleshooting guides about resetting, restoring iPods, all cables are secure and have Terminal Services running in my services etc. so I'm 100% sure everything is setup fine. The problem is the fact that iTunes 7 or more acurately the new ipodserver.exe / ipodhelper.exe are junk.

  • Help... multi user accounts wont recognize ipod

I purchased the ipod nano for my husband as a present. We have one computer, running XP with multiple users. I installed the ipod under my user account and installed itunes6 fine. I was able to add music and pictures under my account. When my husband logs in under his user account. Itunes is there but the ipod does not show up under sources. It does show up in his account under my computer as a hard drive. How do I get itunes to recognize the ipod in his account?
Also I purhased additional ipods for my kids can we all use the same computer?

Tracy - I have the same arrangement as you do - I have 2 IPODs (wife's 5th gen 30Gb and my 4th gen 60Gb). You have to install the IPOD software and drivers (not ITunes) under BOTH user accounts and install the USB drivers and restart windows after it finds the new hardware and mass storage device.
XP is very user specific, so software and drivers loaded for your account do not all transfer to your husbands account on the PC. You will have to install the drivers / software for each IPOD for each new user individually.
After you get XP happy with the new hardware added, open ITunes, register the IPOD through ITunes, and point to where you want to store the library for each IPOD. If you intend to boh share the same library, point there and all should be happy.
Also note, if you have ITunes open in one account, and switch users and attempt to open ITunes again, it may give you some issues relating to library locations open from other users, etc. I would recommend that you log off each user, and use ITunes as a single user under your own log-in.
Hope this helps, and keep us posted...

  • Computer wont recognize ipod

I just got a new laptop and it will not recognize my ipod plugged in the usb. Went back and tried old desktop and it will not recognize either. Any ideas why?

When you plug it in, does the iPod's screen change to indicate that it is connected (and/or charging)?
The latest iTunes may hide the sidebar.  To show the sidebar, from the menau bar, under View, select Show Sidebar.
With the sidebar visible, when you connect the iPod, it does not appear under DEVICES in the sidebar?

    See these troubleshooting articles.
    My iPod is sad.
What does this picture on my iPod mean?
Also, there is a pretty comprehensive post written by another forum member which is about the sad iPod icon. Be aware that it's quite involved and contains some info that will almost certainly void the warranty. If your iPod is still within the warranty period, you should use that option first.

My second generation 4GB iPod nano is not being recognized by Windows. I cannot reset it because the center select button is unresponsive. The other buttons and click wheel still work. Also, even when it is unplugged, it has the "Charged" screen, indicating that it does not recognize when it has been unplugged, therefore, it will not even turn off.

  • Updater stuck on "initializing", iTunes wont recognize Ipod anymore

    Hi,
Just got a new Ipod over a week ago, uploaded all my songs and everything seemed to be fine...until today - i've recharged it on my laptop and tried turning it on but it didn't work - went on the support site and finally restored the iPod to Factory Settings. When I connected my iPod again to the Laptop, iTunes didn't recognize my iPod. So I've downloaded the latest iTunes and tried updating the software.
Now, when i try to update with the iPod Updater 2006-03-23, it gets stuck on "initializing" and iTunes won't recognize my iPod either.
When I click on My Computer, it comes up as "Removable Disk E" and in Device Manager, it comes up under Disk Drives "Apple iPod USB Device"
When i switch on my iPod, it seems to be working fine...but i just cannot download any music on it coz my iTunes won't recognize it...
    Please help!!!!
I use Windows XP, Dell Inspiron 630m and iPod 30GB
    Thanks,
    Cornelia

    thanks, i'd appreciate that...
i went to the ipod store today and have been told that my ipod is fine but my software causes the issues. I'm supposed to delete everything and restore again. Trying to do that now but it's still not working yet. I had Tunebite installed to convert wma to mp3s as well, that might have caused all the trouble. there might probably still some hidden files i didnt get rid of because when i reinstall iTunes, my iPod is still not recognized... i keep u posted as well...

  • Latest iTunes version, wont recognize ipod content

OK. I was using older version of iTunes. I have a 30 gb ipod video with 20gb loaded on it. I used to be able to connect my ipod to my computer, itunes would fire up, and I could view all contents of the ipod on the itunes interface. Now, since I have upgraded, I can no longer view any of the contents from the ipod in itunes. So why did I upgrade? now nothing works right. Apple has some issues. I give up!

I am having the exact same problem. I hate the new version.. I can't see any of the music already on my iPod... plus the music in my library skips!

  • Computer wont recognize ipod in disk drive J!?

I recently recieved my Ipod Nano for my birthday, and everything was going as planned until I came back from vacation 2 weeks ago and tried to put more songs on my Ipod.
Once I put my ipod in the connecter which I had been using for the past 3 months, Itunes never came up so I clicked on it and my Ipod was not listed on the lefthand side.
I went to the apple websited and completed all of the 5 R's and still nothing.
I also went under "My Computer" and saw that disk drive J(the ipod drive) was said to be empty, but yet my ipod was plugged in and the screen on my ipod was blinking and said do not disconnect, like normal.
I checked the back of the connecter and the computer and i made sure everything was in tight, but still it claimed drive J, my ipod drive, was empty. Meanwhile all my songs were deleted somehow. I'm not sure how to fix this because I have uninstalled and reinstalled everything and yet nothing has helped!! Someone please help me out, i need my Ipod to work!! Thanks alot!

    Try changing the drive letter?

  • PC wont recognize ipod, lost drivers

I did a disk defragment on my windows xp dell inspiron laptop. Immediately following this procedure, when I plug my Ipod in the same usb port I've always used for it, I get an error message saying the device is unrecognized and that no drivers are available for it. I tried a system restore, but that didn't work. What to do? I've uninstalled and reloaded all the software that came on the disk with the ipod, and have shut down and restarted several times. Solutions anybody?

I checked for the USB drivers, they were there, but I reloaded them anyway. Still no luck. I can plug the iPod in a dozen times and it doesn't pop up in my iTunes list, but then once in a while it does appear. Virtually always I get an error pop-up box that says the USB device has failed and isn't recognized by the computer. I'm thinking I have a hardware problem with this iPod, which is only a few days old. I tried to use the Update tool in the iPod software and restore the settings, but the process doesn't complete. It says to leave the iPod connected until it says I can disconnect it, but it never says to disconnect it. I have uninstalled and reloaded both the iTunes and iPod software several times, and still no luck, so I'm thinking iPod hardware failure. Thoughts?
