PC2100 and PC2700

I have read many threads regarding this topic, but I am still in doubt. My iBook G4 is a late 2004 model, 12", 1.2Ghz with 256MB RAM onboard. The removable 256MB RAM has a "DDR 333, PC2700" label on it. This shipped with the machine I ordered direct from Apple. But I checked the user's guide and it says DDR 266 PC2100 RAM modules are used. It seems to me that DDR 333, PC2700 is compatible but runs at DDR 266, PC2100. But then, why did Apple ship me DDR 333, PC2700 in the first place? Recently I had the module replaced. The shopkeeper gave me a 1GB DDR333 PC2700, saying it's compatible with all iBooks and PowerBooks. The 1GB module works fine, but I still don't understand why no DDR266 PC2100 is available. By the way, is DDR333 PC2700 more expensive than DDR PC2100?

Hi,
When you bought your iBook chances are that PC2700 was less expensive (as it is now...more is produced) so Apple installed PC2700. PC2700 supplanted PC2100 soon after PC2100 was introduced so of course PC2700's use is more wide spread and is backward compatible with PC2100.

  • RAM for iBook G4 (early 2004) - PC2100 or PC2700??

    Hi,
    i want to add 1GB RAM in my iBook G4 (early 2004) 1.2GHz 14''.
Which i found out can handle PC2100 (and is PC2700 compatible) according to this doc.
Which one you recommend, PC2100 or PC2700? Any diference?
So can i buy any RAM with the following specification?
    1GB RAM PC2700 (or PC2100) - DDR 333 SO-DIMM - 200pin
    thanks in advance
    iBook G4 1.2GHz 14'' (early 2004)   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   256RAM - 60 GB

    Hi,
    Welcome to the Discussions.
Both will work. There's no advantage to using PC2700 as it will run at PC2100 speed. Go with the least expensive of the two.

  • [VIA] Can PC2100 and PC3200 modules be mixed on a KM4M-L?

I couldn't get a new PC2100 module but the shop said a PC3200 module was backwards-compatible.  Added the new PC3200 256MB module (existing one is PC2100 and also 256MB) but only 256MB is shown at boot.  Swapped modules round, same result.  Tried fitting the PC3200 module on its own and it works fine.  Is there an issue with mixing the two types in that only one or the other can be detected?
I have tried flashing the BIOS to v1.6 but it hasn't helped.
    Thanks for any help

    a PC2100 module and a PC3200 module
    who makes them?
mixing memories generally isn't a good idea. the system wants the memory to run at the same speed and timings, reading the SPD data from the stick in slot 1. if the other stick doesn't like being run at those settings, you get problems like these.
why not buy another PC3200 of the same type you already bought, and then sell the PC2100?

  • Pc2100 or pc2700

    Hello!
I am thinking of buying 2x256mb of crucial ram for my nforce.
    But should i buy,
    2x   PC2100 256MB CL2.5
    OR
    2x  PC2700 256MB CL2.5
Crucial dont have any CL2 :(
The price difference is only about £1, PC2700 costing the most.
    Suggestions please  )
    Thanks

    Tango,
I agree with Noby on this.  With AMD coming out with the 333Mhz FSB will make the PC-2100 RAM go the way of the PC-100 and PC-133 very soon.
    Take Care,

  • MS 6787 v2 and pc2700 ddr 333

help me please !!! canI use pc2700 DDR 333MHZ sticks in my mobo ? ms 6787 v2
and if so,  what settings do i need 2 apply ??

You have to try to findout. Most probably should work, but with reduced 266 memory Frequency.(PC2100)
"what settings do i need 2 apply ??"
Just leave settings to Auto, if those sticks are properly SPD programmed they shall be configured automatically to correct settings.

  • Pc2100 vs pc2700 on kt3-ultra2

    Hi,
could any one tell me if my pc would get an extra boost if i upgrade my system from pc2100 (@fsb133) to pc2700 memory (@fsb133+33).
My cpu is an 2100+ Athlon
    thanx

if you run your FSB at 266 and memory at 333 you will get about 1-3% more speed. How ever if you up the FSB to 333 then you will see ~10%.

  • K7t266 Pro2 And Pc2700 Ddr Ram?

Does anybody here know if a k7t266 pro2 mobo will support pc2700 ddr ram?  COMPUSA Has a great deal on PNY right now--512mb pc2700 ddr for 50 bucks after rebates....As far as I have read, the documentation says pc1600 or pc2100.  But we all know that rules are meant to be broken.......
Thanks for any help I receive!!!
My specs are in my signature!

You can use pc2700 ram but without any benefit against pc2100, speed will be the same.
Be aware that it's normally no good idea to mix different ram type, this can cause trouble.

  • PT880 and PC2700 (333) RAM

    Hello All,
just bought a PT880 Neo and have just a question about the RAMs. I will add a P4 with 400 FSB. As i can see on page 2-3 in the manual, FSB 400 and DDR 333 is not available. Does that mean, the Memory is not working at all, or is it working but only on DDR 266 speed ?
    Thanks
    Bruno

I have tried it and it does work. the memory just slows down. It is very similar to adding PC2700 in a board that only supports 2100

  • 3.06 533fsb pc2100 or pc2700 ?

Does anyone have a 3.06 533fsb cpu with the 875p Neo ? I have a friend who is going to take my old 875p and put in his 3.06 and I was wondering what speed of memory I should use. Any performance diffrences with the memory running at 333 ? Will it force the fsb to run at 667 mhz ? Thanks to any help or suggestions

well you should go with the pc2700 you could then run the memory 1:1 to a higher fsb.  166x4 that would be 664 total.  but that more depends on the cpu than anything id say.

  • Mix of PC3200 and PC2700 RAM

Just looking for opinions / facts about a test I'm doing.
I have a MDD G4 1.25 GHz that has been struggling along with 512MB of PC2700 RAM with Tiger for a few weeks. I recently got a good deal on some used PC3200 RAM and have put one in the machine. ASP reports:
    DIMM0/J21:
    Size: 512 MB
    Type: DDR SDRAM
    Speed: PC2600U-25330
    Status: OK
    DIMM1/J22:
    Size: 512 MB
    Type: DDR SDRAM
    Speed: PC2600U-30330
    Status: OK
My question is, is it OK to mix this RAM? Given that ASP does not accurately identify the PC2700 and PC3200 type are the last digits accurate? Is it OK to run the 25330 with the 30330? Seems to be working fine in the first 10 minutes ...

    Hi-
The difference between the 25330 and the 30330 is the CAS latency- 2.5 and 3.0 respectively.
If you have no problems at boot, I would assume you will have no problems.
On a G4, typically, mixing latency is not a problem, as long as it is faster than required.

  • MSI K7T266Pro2 and PC2700 DDR

I plan to assemble a system with the K7T266Pro2 (MS-6380 version 2.0) with Samsung PC2700 256MB module. Will this DDR work with the KT266A chipset on this mobo?
    Thanks for a reply.

it should work without any issues, it's the same as PC2100, only spec'ed to run faster.  Same as installing PC133 in a PC100 motherboard.

  • Two memory modules

Hi, i have a K7T266 pro2, i use to have 256mb of pc2100. Now i bought another ram module a 256mb pc 2700. both from kingston. But my bios only shows 256 mb of ram, it does not read both modules at the same time. It accepts pc2700, so thats not the problem, but what is?.
Can this motherboard not accept when running pc2100 and pc2700 at the same time.(it can function, but it reads only 256)
    thanx!

yes, i have tried all combinations, and it has no problem with the 2700 stick, when i run them at the same time the bios says that the other two slots are empty. sometimes it says the slot with the pc2700 is empty, and if i change combination it would say that the slot with pc2100 is empty.
    so i dont now..

  • K7T266 Pro2 mixing memory ?!?

    Hi all,
I am having a problem with mixing memory.  The tech. at the computer shop say that a PC2100 and a PC2700 should work whitout problem, so I by one 512MB  PC2700 !!!
Here, on my mobo, the memory check pass at boot, but WindowsXP crash when it access the PC2700 memory...
In bios, I set CAS lentacy at 2.5 and force the memory clock to 133MHz...
Note that the PC2700 work fine, alone...
You have idea ?  Is PC2100 and PC2700 can be mixted ?
    thanks,

Also, I can tell you that this mobo, K7T266 Pro2, is very picky about memory sticks.
    Especially when mixing brands.

  • Time for an Upgrade, Question first

I have an older system and want to upgrade the AMD Athalon 2200 to a 2800 Sempron (preferably a 512k cache one =)), but question is I have not flashed the bios in about a year and 4 months or so. The last time I flashed I updated to a version 1.9. Would I need to up the ROM to the current version that MSI Live Monitor shows, 1.0C to put the Sempron in the socket A and have al work well?
And would a nVidia, preferably MSI 6200 or 6600 Video card work well on my KT4V?
Suggestions are welcome, and no I cannot afford a new mainboard and 64 bit cpu  so those two will have to do for now.
    Thanks in advance

Paulie, I would not recommend doing the video card if you are going to upgrade the mainboard.
Why?  The mainboard you currently have is AGP.  The current standard now is PCI-E with AGP being left behind.
That is the reason I recommended the RS480M2 board.
The RS480M2 does support PC2100 and PC2700 ram along with PC3200.

Those are the ones they tested, but most likely any decent PC2100 ram will work with the board.

  • ECN: RD(F)20020124083

    Hello All -
I am the proud new owner of a slightly used K7N420 Pro motherboard, cpu and ram.  Coming from a dual PIII setup, I must say.. WOW what a difference!!  At anyrate, I have a few questions.  First, I have two types of ram here, PC2100, and PC2700.
For this board, which should I use?  I mean, which is better/faster/the right choice?  Secondly, the cpu that came with the board is a XP 1800+, Now, I had to update the bios from 2.0 to 2.7, which wasn't a hastle at all.. but, I went to see just how fast a cpu I can stick in this puppy.. MSI's site say's upto a 2600+.. yippe!!
However, after quick check on AMD's web site, I turned up this message about this motherboard:
"ECN: RD(F)20020124083 required for Athlon XP 2100+ and higher.
For information or questions regarding ECNs please contact the motherboard vendor. "
So... how does one go about checking to see what ECN number their board is?
Thanks a lot, and I'm glad I found you guys :P
    crix0r

Ahh, I got the impression from their website that the ECN# was a revision number of some sort, so I got the feeling that it was fairly important.  But, like you say.. I'll just let it go.
Yeah, According to the chart on MSI's website, the board will do upto a 2600+, however, that seems self defeating to me, since I belive the 2400+ was the last to use a 266 Mhz FSB (which, my board supports
Ok, so the board is picky about it's ram type, which do you suggest?  Which always works?  Price really isn't an issue, I just want it to work.  Also, what CPU cooler is best for the 2400+ AND will fit on the board itself? :P
    Thanks again.
