Pc2100 DDR or pc2700 DDR??

I have MSI K7N2L with 2100+ XP.  I am currently using PC2100 DDR RAM.  I think buying some PC2700 DDR to replace the PC2100.  Will I see the different in performance with this change?????
Thanks

It depends on what you're running your FSB at. If you're running at 266 on your 2100+ you won't likely notice a positive difference, as you may even run into WORSE performance. It is best to keep your FSB and RAM speed in sync (ex: 266/266 or 333/333). Only get the higher RAM if you are planning to get a faster CPU or overclock your current one's FSB.

  • K7t266 Pro2 And Pc2700 Ddr Ram?

Does anybody here know if a k7t266 pro2 mobo will support pc2700 ddr ram?  COMPUSA Has a great deal on PNY right now--512mb pc2700 ddr for 50 bucks after rebates....As far as I have read, the documentation says pc1600 or pc2100.  But we all know that rules are meant to be broken.......
Thanks for any help I receive!!!
My specs are in my signature!

You can use pc2700 ram but without any benefit against pc2100, speed will be the same.
Be aware that it's normally no good idea to mix different ram type, this can cause trouble.

  • MS 6787 v2 and pc2700 ddr 333

help me please !!! canI use pc2700 DDR 333MHZ sticks in my mobo ? ms 6787 v2
and if so,  what settings do i need 2 apply ??

You have to try to findout. Most probably should work, but with reduced 266 memory Frequency.(PC2100)
"what settings do i need 2 apply ??"
Just leave settings to Auto, if those sticks are properly SPD programmed they shall be configured automatically to correct settings.

  • Installedl pc2700 ddr but read pc3200

    Hi, I' m using
    Model Name: PowerBook G4 15"
    Model Identifier: PowerBook5,6
    Processor Name: PowerPC G4 (1.2)
    Processor Speed: 1.67 GHz
I have 512mb ram that come with powerbook and I just installed 1G pc2700 ddr ram.
Now in "About this Mac:" it reads 1.5 gb memory but the memory seems to display a different speed
    Size: 512 MB
    Type: DDR SDRAM
    Speed: PC2700U-25330
    Status: OK
    and
    Size: 1 GB
    Type: DDR SDRAM
    Speed: PC3200U-30330
    Status: OK
I ran a hardware test and the memory passed. I just wonder why would it display differently when I got the right part, I use OWC memery. And will there be any problem?
    thank you

All DDR RAM is multi-speed, capable of running both faster and slower than it is designated so this will not be a problem at all.
Also note that the latency on the new stick is different but the RAM running speed is reported as the same.
DDR latency is less critical than older RAM types as it also adjusts to the bus speed, the given rating is at the speed of the stick at it's original rating not at its current speed so, although your CL3 RAM is theorectically slower at PC3200 it will actually be running at a rated CL2.5 at PC2700 speeds.
In essence, ignoring the techie bits, you'll be fine!

  • PC2700 DDR 333 Problem

I have an MSI 6712 KT4V motherboard with 2 x 256Mb PC2700 333.  When i put a third matched 256mb PC2700 333 RAM into the socket I get an error message saying that system memory is low and Norton Internet security may not operate and then the PC hangs.
I have tried all 3 RAM cards in divferent slots etc and so long as there is only 2 cards in everything works fine.  Put the third in and it hangs.
Could anyone please help with this problem.  Maybe there is a bios setting I have wrong but the motherboard manual doesn't say anything.
    Many thanks

The 3rd stick of RAM is OK as all the ram works in any combination of 2.  So illiminated bad ram and a bad slot.  Problem is when I fill all three slots.  I will get the other info asap. I got the RAM from the same place to match it up so all the 3 sticks are Aries.
    I bought the motherboard as a fully tested kit (lazy)from watford electronics with the following;
    AMD Athlon XP2600+ (2.08GHz) Processor
Aries PC2700 DDR 333 184 pin already on board
    Radeon 9200 128MB DDR + DVI + TV

it should work without any issues, it's the same as PC2100, only spec'ed to run faster.  Same as installing PC133 in a PC100 motherboard.

  • My 645 ultra doesn't read PC2700 DDR

assaf or anyone please help. I have had my board for a while and I originally bought some OZ pc2700 ram and it turned out that people read that it was pc2100 that runs at 333. So I figured that is why bios was reading it by speed as 266. I bought some Samsung true PC2700 and installed it and it still reads it in bios as 266.  I am keeping it overclocked to 333 but still why is it not reading it right. I would like to OC my ram some and it doesn't even read it right in bios.  Please help, I put it in my cousins EPOX board and it read it as 333.

I ran the memory benchmark 3 different times.  The first time was by speed. Second time when I OC'd to 333.  The third time was with the Timing set to ULTRA with being at 333.
    By speed (266):
    Int ALU/Ram Bandwidth 986 MB/s
    Float FPU/Ram Bandwidth 1016 MB/s
3:4 Ratio which makes it 333:
    Int ALU/Ram Bandwidth 1151 MB/s
    Float FPU/Ram Bandwidth 1182 MB/s
3:4 Ratio (333) with ULTRA Timing setting:
    Int ALU/Ram Bandwidth 1246 MB/s
    Float FPU/Ram Bandwidth 1261 MB/s

    k8n neo2 plat bios ver 1.3
    3200 winchester
2x512 ballistix pc 4000 ddr sdram in slots 1+3
    Hi
Im hoping someone will be able to help. I cannot get this memory to run at anything more than a ddr clock of 107 (214 ddr) when i set the timing to 'auto' on the memlock. Cpu-z says this speed but also has '256 clocks' in the 'dram idle timer' in its memory tab (meant to be 16 clocks im sure).
Ive messed around with it for ages trying to get it to work and have just received various error sounds and messages causing me to have to reset the cmos numerous times just to be able to get back in.
I can get it to work if i lock the memlock at 200 but this is causing it to run at only pc3200 (ddr 400) speed, not to mention giving me the inability to overclock it at all. Timings are set at what the memory is meant to run ddr 500 at - 2.5-4-8-4 (but im only sticking 2.7 volts through it, from stated 2.8, as it's running slower).
The crucial tool said it would work fine, the spec of the memory and board indicate that they're compatible with each other, and several people in the thread on this site are using it (1 person @ 235 fsb) - so i seem to think that i may be missing something.
Also, each stick of the memory works fine on it's own, got it to ddr 440 without flinching (220 fsb... ), and stable, no crashes or nothing - hours of use and numerous benchmarking. But 2 sticks just sends the ddr clock back to 107 unless i lock the memlock.
I've run memtest whilst locking the memlock at 200 and it showed no errors. Im going to do the same thing overnight tonight with the ddr clock knackered at 107 - see what shows up.
My other memory works fine - 2x512 2700 kingstonX.
    Can anyone help? Much thanks

    Try a BIOS upgrade.
Maybe it's no coincidence that my OCZ 3500EB was also limited to 214 mhz on my K8N Neo (not Neo2) with BIOS 1.4. Both sets of RAM use ICs made by Micron so perhaps it's no coincidence (not to say they're exactly the same.  They're not.)
Upping to beta BIOS 1.52, 1.55, or 1.56 fixes things for me.
Maybe for the Neo2 you should try beta 1.36 or 1.37 then? Worth a try.  I believe that K8N Neo BIOS 1.4 and K8N Neo2 BIOS 1.3 are total clunkers.
    Good luck...

Hi can you please take a look at this topic about overclocking and tell me if it would work
    Thanks

    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=86055.0

As NovJoe mentioned jumping from 133 to 200 is really fast jump. I was able to go from 166 on my processor to 200, but I had an aftermarket HSF. My temps still rose about 8C. The best recommendation is a NovJoe mentioned in going with small increments. As with checking to make sure the system is stable with running a CPU intensive program, also make sure you keep an eye on temps. Under load I would rather see no processor get above 55C. Obviously the lower the better. The other thing to keep in mind is whether or not your other hard ware is up to it. Namely your memory. If it is rated as PC3200 (DDR400) then there should be no issues there, but if it is PC2100 (DDR266) or PC2700 (DDR 333) then going to 400 may not fly with the memory.
One thing I did after I got to my overclock, to verify it was stable and the temps would remain where I wanted them, is to run the SiSoft Burn-in wizard. You can set it so it will shut down the burn-in if the CPU or motherboard temp reaches a certain point. It will also record the max, min, and avg CPU and system temps. I ran mine for a full 12 hours @ 100% CPU utilization, to verify things would be where I want them. When you do this, make sure you select only CPU and memory benchmarks, because if you do the network, hard drive etc, it will give your CPU some time to cool down and won't give you accurate results.
    Good Luck

  • Advice badly needed on 845 ultra DDRs

    hi ppl ... greetings !
I have a pair of PC2100 (266mhz) DDR 128mb memory in my PC now.
I have been given a pair of PC3100 (333mhz) 256mb DDR ... but not sure if I can put it in my PC (because the manual said it only support PC2100 & PC1600).
Will putting the 333mhz DDRs work ?  (or worse, kill my PC ??)  I was told that it will still work but at 266mhz if I mix it with the (266mhz) 128mb DDRs ?  Is this true ?

  • PC2100 and PC2700

I have read many threads regarding this topic, but I am still in doubt. My iBook G4 is a late 2004 model, 12", 1.2Ghz with 256MB RAM onboard. The removable 256MB RAM has a "DDR 333, PC2700" label on it. This shipped with the machine I ordered direct from Apple. But I checked the user's guide and it says DDR 266 PC2100 RAM modules are used. It seems to me that DDR 333, PC2700 is compatible but runs at DDR 266, PC2100. But then, why did Apple ship me DDR 333, PC2700 in the first place? Recently I had the module replaced. The shopkeeper gave me a 1GB DDR333 PC2700, saying it's compatible with all iBooks and PowerBooks. The 1GB module works fine, but I still don't understand why no DDR266 PC2100 is available. By the way, is DDR333 PC2700 more expensive than DDR PC2100?

    Hi,
When you bought your iBook chances are that PC2700 was less expensive (as it is now...more is produced) so Apple installed PC2700. PC2700 supplanted PC2100 soon after PC2100 was introduced so of course PC2700's use is more wide spread and is backward compatible with PC2100.

  • RAM for iBook G4 (early 2004) - PC2100 or PC2700??

    Hi,
    i want to add 1GB RAM in my iBook G4 (early 2004) 1.2GHz 14''.
Which i found out can handle PC2100 (and is PC2700 compatible) according to this doc.
Which one you recommend, PC2100 or PC2700? Any diference?
So can i buy any RAM with the following specification?
    1GB RAM PC2700 (or PC2100) - DDR 333 SO-DIMM - 200pin
    thanks in advance
    iBook G4 1.2GHz 14'' (early 2004)   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   256RAM - 60 GB

    Hi,
    Welcome to the Discussions.
Both will work. There's no advantage to using PC2700 as it will run at PC2100 speed. Go with the least expensive of the two.

  • [865PE/G Neo2 Series] DDR Memory with 865PE Neo2-PFS Platinum

SYSTEM SPEC: 400w PSU, Pentium 4 3.2ghz 800mhz FSB (HT), Matrox Parhelia 128 8x AGP card, MSI Neo2 PFS Platinum motherboard.
Hi there. Im looking for some serious help with my computer. I have a MSI 865PE Neo2-PFS Platinum mobo and have been using 512mb DDR RAM with it- the ram is PC2700 (333mhz), non-ECC, ubuffered, non-parity, 184 pin. Now, I have just purchased a new DIMM. This one is
    1gb PC3200 (400mhz), non-ECC, Unbuffered, non-parity, HIGH DENSITY- DUAL IN LINE, 128 x 64, 184 pin
It doesnt work and my system refuses to boot up. I checked out the specs of the 865PE Neo2-PFS Platinum, and it says in the table that you can only use 400mhz DDR RAM with an 800mhz FSB processor (which I have). It says it supports 400mhz RAM, "DUAL CHANNEL", non-ECC, unbuffered memory, but no mention of "HIGH DENSITY" or "DUAL IN LINE". Is there a difference between "DUAL CHANNEL" and "DUAL IN-LINE". Also, does anyone know what the difference is between 128 x 4 and 128 x 64, they are both 1gb? SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!!! I have seen some RAM from the same dealer which is not "HIGH DENSITY" and has the 128 x 4 configuration, and is still a 1gb module. Is that safe to buy? What RAM do I need (in detail) for my motherboard. Thanks!

Always useful with a complete systemspec.including PSU and biosversion, so please make one.
Can´t see anything wrong with the basic RAM specification - it also matches the MoBo basic specifications:
    - Supports four unbuffered DIMM of 2.5V DDR SDRAM.
    - Supports up to 4GB memory size without ECC.
    - Supports Dual channel DDR266/333/400/433/466/500/533 MHz and up.
Have you tried removing the old RAM and booting only with the new 1GB stick alone ?
Using mixed RAM, sometimes works in "Single mode" (see mobo manual), but is not recommended.
Running Dual-channel ( 2x512 or 1024x2 ) is preferable and gives best performance, but then you need two identical sticks.
You may also need to increase RAM voltage some in bios (example 2.7v) to achieve best stability.
If you have some RAM compability issues with 1GB sticks - 2x512 RAM stick would be safer and give better performance, unless your aiming for more then 2GB in total.
    You can also read about the RAM testreport here;
    http://www.msi.com.tw/html/products/mainboard/testreport_pdf/6728v2.0/memory.pdf
About "Dual In line Memory Module" - I think it´s the long version for older DIMM description.
Just like "Double Data Rate" is the long version for DDR RAM.
DDR means Double Data Rate RAM (in opposition to the SDRAM or Single Data Rate). DDR RAM bends the transfer rate for clock cycle. It can go quicker because it executes 2 instructions for cycle of clock of the RAM instead of an only instruction like it is the case of the SDR.

The board does support ECC, just not ECC functionality.  I've never had a problem running ECC in either board, generics at that.  I'd try another brand.....
