PCB mount connector for NI USB 6008

I am looking for a Right Angle connector that can mate with the NI USB 6008 module...
Could you please provide me the connector P/N
Chandra

You're aware they make an OEM flavor that's designed to be board-mounted?

  • 16 pin PCB Mount connector for NI USB-6212

I have the scew-terminated NI USB-6212 and am looking for a connector that will allow me to plug in an external PCB.  If anyone could provide a part number it would be greatly appreciated.

Poke around on Digikey and see what they have that suits your needs.  It's a 3.81mm-pitch connector, Phoenix Contact makes a bunch in their Combicon line.
NI also offers an OEM-flavored 6212 that has a standard 0.1"-pitch header on it.  For interfacing to a custom PCB, this is very much a better way to go.
DAQ mates right up to that 50-pin connector on my board.  (I'm using a 6211 with one 50-pin header on this product.)

  • Signal transfer for ni usb 6008

I am trying to send signals through NIUSB 6008 to an instruments.
I have a VI which might do the same but i am not sure as the VI has a browse switch (tasks/ ports being used), where i can select the ports (digital ports) of the NI USB. I am able to select the signals but when i run the VI the signals dont get treansferred through the NIUSB 6008.
I am sure that the hardware connections are connected properly as i have tested the NIUSB 6008 by self testing the device and also through test panels provided in the measurement and automation software.
I understand that it might be simple but i am new to Labview and i am still learning.
    Thank you all

    Hi Dee,
Good examples to look at in LabView Example Finder are: Hardware Input and Output >> DAQmx >> Digital Generation >> Write Digital Port.vi or Hardware Input and Output >> DAQmx >> Digital Measurements >> Read Digital Port.vi

  • Are USB-6008 drivers available that make it compatible with LabVIEW 6.1?

I'm using a USB-6008 Multifunction DAQ, but it is not compatable with teh version of LabVIEW I'm using, 6.1. I may be able to upgrade to LabVIEW 7.1 to solve the problem, but I wanted to know what alternatives I have. Are there any available drivers or patches that allow the USB-6008 to be recognized by LabVIEW 6.1?

Unfortunately, no. The driver for the USB-6008, DAQmx Base 1.5 is only compatible with LabVIEW 7.0 or newer.

  • I have LabView Student Edition, how can I make work a USB 6008?

The Student edition it doesnot have many Vi's that there are necesary to work with a USB 6008, I would like to know how can I make work the Usb 6008 with LabView Student Edition

    Hello Jorge,
When you say "NI-DAQmx configuration" do you mean the NI-DAQmx Base Configuration Utility?  Are you using NI-DAQmx or NI-DAQmx Base to communicate with the 6008?
NI-DAQmx 7.5 added support for the USB-6008.  Therefore, you can use either NI-DAQmx or NI-DAQmx Base to control this device.  Make sure that you are setting the USB-6008 to NI-DAQmx before trying to use the NI-DAQmx VIs in LabVIEW.  To do this, Open Measurement and Automation Explorer (MAX) and select Tools >> NI-DAQmx Configuration >> NI-DAQmx USB Driver Selector.  Your USB-6008 should appear in this window, indicating which driver your device is configured for.  Make sure it is set to NI-DAQmx before trying to use the NI-DAQmx VIs.
When your 6008 is set to NI-DAQmx, you cannot use NI-DAQmx Base or any of the DAQmx Base examples.  Likewise, when the 6008 is set to NI-DAQmx Base, you cannot use any NI-DAQmx VIs.
If you would like to use NI-DAQmx with your USB-6008, please set the driver by following the steps above and verify that "USB-6008" is listed under "Devices and Interfaces >> NI-DAQmx Devices" in MAX.
I hope this helps.  Please let me know if you continue having trouble with your USB-6008.

    Sean C.

  • Communication card usb 6008

    Hi,
I'm currently facing some troubles that might come from a usb card 6008. A testing machine monitored with this card and a sofware developped in LabVIEW do not wotk anymore.
However, on another testing machine, no problem with the same configuration, usb card 6008 and a sofware developped in LabVIEW.
I searched some differences between both configurations and found this one : in MAX, on the testing machine that do not work anymore, the usb card is not "identified" in the same way, the name of the card can not be seen (see photo).
whereas on the testing machine where everything is fine, it is (see photo)
As you can see, the screens are not similar and I can't modify anything on the card of the 1st screen. As the name of the card is setted up in my LabVIEW software and as the card doesn't seem to have a name, can it be the reason of my trouble?
If yes, do you know how to handle it?
Thanks for your help and best regards,
    Sylvain

    Hello Sylvain,
I think that you have connected your device to the computer before having installed DAQmx the first time. Since, it uses the bad driver. I suggest you to open the Device Manager and update the 6008's driver software. Choose to search for a driver on your computer among the two options and then choose the "Let me pick among a list of device drivers on my computer" option. Do you see something like "NI USB-6008" in the list?
Don't hesitate to post screenshots of the information contained in your Device Manager like this view (but for your USB-6008) :
(Sorry, my computer is in French )
Another solution should be to follow those steps in this specific order :
    1) Disconnect your 6008 device
    2) Reset MAX Database
    3) Uninstall DAQmx driver
    4) Reboot your computer
    5) Reinstall DAQmx (still with the device disconnected)
    6) Plug your device and check if it appears correctly in MAX

  • USB-6008 How to move an executable to a different computer.

Hello NI Forums!  Please bear with me as I am new to NI products as well as this forum.  Hope I'm posting in the correct board.  I am an electronic technician with over 30 years experience in a variety of hardware and software who is trying to move an executable from an older Windows XP computer to a new Win 8 machine.
First, I just moved the .exe file itself.   When executed, it produces an error dialog:  "Unable to locate the LabVIEW Run-Time engine"  "This executable requires a version 2011 (or compatible) LabVIEW Run-Time Engine."
Next, I ran the driver installation disk that came with the USB-6008 module.  Now the executable will start but it doesn't appear to communicate with the USB-6008 because it doesn't operate the digital I/O.
I can run NI MAX and see the USB module as well as test the analog and digital I/O so I know the hardware is working.
I have been surfing the knowledge base and have found references to .dll & .vi type support files but have no idea which ones to look for and where they might be.
Can this move be accomplished without having to recompile the exe?  I have no access to the source files.
    Thanks!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Again, thanks for all the advise, information ( and patience).  I  actually was referring to the module name as seen in MAX.  That wasn't made clear. I was at the end of a very long day.  But i have seen instances where the PC name is part of a network address, I just didn't know if that applied here.
Regarding dated drivers, I downloaded the current offering of RTE 2011 (what ithe app asking for) which includes win 8 drivers.   That appears to have satisfied the initial failure of the app to run (no error message, app opens and does it's splash - then nothing else).
The device name for the USB-6008 module is dev1 on both PCs.  I will go back today to look for support files I may have missed.
Regarding tasks and such running in MAX, when I opened MAX it appears this was the first time it had been used as I had to agree to the limited evaluation license on start-up.  It starts up with an empty project and there are no projects available to load.
I assume it's not possible to decompile an executable to make the adjustments for the new host computer?

  • Download just the USB-6008 driver (DAQmx) ?

    Hi
Is there a way to download only the driver for my USB-6008 application
? Which means that I don't have to downlaod the installer with MAX and
support for different programming enviroments ?
    Regards
    Daniel

    Hello Daniel,
When you install NI-DAQ, you are given the option to include support for multiple software programming environments, and MAX as well.  You do need to install MAX and support for the API that you will be using, like LabVIEW 7.1 for example, but you can choose not to install support for everything else, like LabVIEW 7.0, CVI/LabWindows, .NET, etc.

  • Will USB-6008 DAQ be able to power and record voltage for UMS T5 tensiometer at the same time?

I would like to use my NI USB-6008 to provide power to my UMS T5 tensiometer  (http://www.ums-muc.de/en/products/tensiometer/t5.html) as well as take readings from it, but I don't know if this is possible to do properly. The supply voltage for the instrument can be as low as 5V, which I can easily get from the dedicated +5V channel. I am able to power the instrument and connect it to an analog input on the 6008 and measure a voltage in differential mode. However, while reading the support literature for the instrument, I find the following:
"Potential data acquisition pitfalls: Because the pressure transducer is configured in a Wheatstone full bridge, the input voltage and signal mV output cannot be connected to the same reference (ground). Hence, the signal mV output can only be measured using a differential voltage measurement. Therefore, do not attempt to make a single-ended measurement of the pressure transducer mV output."  (http://www.decagon.com/assets/Uploads/MeasuringUMSTensiometerswithnon-UMSControlandDataAcquisitionSystems.pdf)
My understanding is that the 6008 can take a differential measurement if I attach the signal "+" and signal "-" to the positive and negative analog input terminals. However, it seems that all of the Ground ports on the 6008 are grounded to the same reference, which would make my voltage measurement invalid according to the paragraph above. So my real questions is: if I attempt to record the voltage using one of the analog inputs on the 6008 in this way, is the measurement valid? Or do I need to find a separate power supply with a different reference ground to ensure that the measurement is accurate?

The specification sheet for that device is very poor. The manual is not much better. Companies which want to sell scientific equipment should publish decent data sheets or get out of business.
In section 3.4.3 General requirements the device is described as a "non-amplified bridge circuit."  This information along with the bridge impedance should be in the specifications because it is essential to applying the device under any circumstances other than the nominal behavior at 10.6 V.
The answer to your question is this:
You can use it with the USB-6008.  The 5 V power supply will result in output voltages slightly less than half (5/10.6) the voltages specified under nominal conditions. You can use the differential input mode on the USB-6008.  The absolute input voltages will be about 2.5 V with the 5 V supply. That voltage is within the working range of the device. The differences will probably be less than 100 mV. The resolution of the USB-6008 on the +/-1 V range is about 0.5 mV so your pressure resolution will be around 1 % of full scale. The input impedance and termination voltage of the USB-6008 will introduce some errors.  These may be on the order of 5-10%. I cannot predict much better without the missing bridge impedance specification.  Those errors should be systematic and relatively constant. A calibration of the whole system - sensor and DAQ device together should allow you to compensate for much of that error.

  • Buying OSX App store on my imac and mounting it on a USB for my old MBP legal?

I want to buy OSX mountain lion in the App store on my imac and mount it on a USB to update my old MBP (running leopard so I can't use the app store.)
If I am using the same apple id for both computers is this legal or will the app store think I am putting it on extra computers, and shut me down or something?

Just to be clear the OSX mountain lion installer will not open even from a clean install, because the laptop is running 10.5.8
(My imac is running the latest mountain lion and the app store is already installed, I am not installing the appstore as the subject of this thread is a little confusing i realise now.)

  • Amplifying Type K Thermocouple for high temp reading with USB 6008

I am attempting to amplify a type K thermocouple so that the signal can be read somewhat accurately by a USB-6008. I have looked at the AD595 chip but it states a maximum useful temperature of 100 C and I am going to need to be reading up to 700 C.
Is there another amplifier chip that would work up to this temperature, or should I resign myself to using the signal unamplified and getting a very inaccurate (~30 C/division) reading for temperature?

  • Making another counter VI for usb-6008 using Labview 8.5

I want to create another counter for usb-6008 using Labview 8.5 as it is needed to calculate two speeds simultaneously.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

The best way to do this is to use the counter.  The counter counts
signals without having to interrupt the system or use the USB bus.
When you request the number of ticks that the counter has seen, a
request is thrown from the CPU to the USB line to the 6008, which then
asks the counter "How many ticks have you seen?"  That number is
returned over the USB bus, goes to the CPU, and then displays on your
screen.  Since the DIO lines on the 6008 are software timed, there is
no way to guarantee that the data returning to the CPU is
deterministic.  The conceptual difference between software-controlled
DIO (which nondeterministically returns an entire data stream) and a
software-tick-request-controlled counter (which returns a single number
with the number of ticks) prevents us from using the DIO lines on the
6008.  The cheapest way to count more edges is to purchase more 6008s.
Another possibility would be to purchase a PCI counter board such as
the PCI-6602, which has 8 counters. The most counters we offer in the
USB form factor is 2 per device.

  • DIO for USB 6008

    Hello there folks,
I just need suggestions from everyone.  have 5 digital signals and am using USB 6008 to measure using DAQ assistant express VI ( not DAQmx ), and use the digital binary values from the 5 channels to select a case statements. Attached is the word document .
     Kindly confirm:
    1)  if the PIN numbers are correct
    2) the labview part will work with DAQ assistant express VI
    3) any other example installed in labview which you can suggest to read more about , so that i can program in labview ??

    Hi Miaa,
The best examples for programming your application without the DAQ Assistant are "Read Dig Chan.vi" and "Read Dig Port.vi" (located under Hardware Input and Output » DAQmx » Digital Measurements in the Example Finder).
The "Chan" VI reads each line as a true/false value and returns an array of booleans, and the "Port" VI reads the entire port and returns an integer. You can use both of these data types to drive your case structure, but I think the integer format will make the programming easier.

  • Separate Analog Input/Output Tasks for Multiple USB-Daq 6008

Hello, In my application I'm using two separate USB-6008 DAQ devices, they are to be used simultaneously,
i.e both tasks will start in a same loop, there are both writing to some channels and sampling some data from
some channels, the problem is, when I'm trying to define a task, via Daqmx base Configuration Utility, I
sucseed at defining the task, for the first Device, but unable to define nearly same task but for the
different Device, since the OK button is grayed out (Disable).
    I'm using Labview 7.1 and a NI-Daqmx base ver. 2.0
Following attachment shows what I'm talking about.

Actually it is not the easiest to use the full version of daqmx is easier, It is also very easy to set this up in MAX (measurement and automation explorer) What version of labview are you using. have you made sure that the device is recognised in MAX and that the device number is correct. i have a couple of 6008 and have run them alot without any trouble so it must be the way you have things setup. Could you post a section of the code that gives  you the error. also try running each device in max with the test panels for each one and see if it works there.

  • Cable for usb 6008

    Hi friends,
What is the properties of cable which used to connect  Analog I/O or Digital I/O of USB 6008? How must be selected a cable?
    have a nice work

For most general applications, basic wires will do the trick.  We dont really have any specified wires to use specifically for most of our modules as it is based off the application (current, circuit length, etc.) but if you want to do a more specific choice, there are a lot of resources online and equations to calculate the necessary wire gauge.  Some links to those are here:
