PCI-8331 MXI-4 Interface stops PC from booting

Hello
I’ve recently purchased a NI PCI-8331 MXI-4 Interface card and have installed it in a PC. The PC boots OK and the card and drivers seem to be OK. If I then attach it to a PXI rack, the PC no longer boots. Some details:
PC is a Dell Optiplex380
PC OS is Windows XP Pro v2002 Service Pack 2
I am powering up the PXI rack prior to the PC
The Pw and Lk lights on the PCI card light
I’ve tried the PCI-8331 card in another PC and it seems to work OK and connects to the PXI rack. Both PCs have been configured in a similar manner. Anyone come across this before?

I have had this issue previously on Dell computers and the MXI-3 interface cards.
If the computer never makes it past the BIOS screens then you have a hardware conflict with something in the PXI chassis and one of the resources on the motherboard of the computer.
1) Power down and remove all PXI cards from the chassis (leave the MXI-4 cards connected at both ends)
2) Reboot and ensure the system will boot.
3) Power down and install the first PXI card.
4) Repeat step 2 and 3 for all cards in the chassis.
I found that when you connect a loaded PXI chassis, the computer seems to have a bit of a mental breakdown and often times fails to boot. Adding the cards one at a time has resolved this issue for me in the past. It is a real pain to continually have to install, boot, shutdown, install boot, shutdown.......
If you find that you can't get the system to boot using this procedure, move the MXI card to another PCI slot within the computer and start adding cards over again. If I recall correctly, moving the card further out on the PCI slots may resolve the issue as it may put the card on the other side of one of PCI bridges on the motherboard.

PXI-8331 MXI-4 interface connection error

I am using the PXI-8331, PCI-8331 MXI-4 to control chassis PXI-1042. I installed the cards, software and connect chassis to the desktop. MAX window recognizes the chassis but on the chassis status under General tab, a message of "The MXI- connection to this chassis timed out" appears. For this reason, I could not see other modules on the chassis.
How do I solve this problem?

Stop iPhoto from booting external drive

Anyone have a terminal command to stop my exteral from spinning up when I launch iPhoto? This wasn't happening before my upgrade from Lion to ML.

1. can I move over only certain albums from iPhoto to the hard drive, or does it have to be the entire library?
It doesn’t have to be the entire Library, but the albums must be in an iPhoto Library if you want to
...access them through iPhoto again to view, manipulate, make albums, etc?
It’s common for folks to have two Libraries. We often see folks have a full library on an external disk and a smaller one on the internal disk of their laptops, for instance.
Here’s how you can do that:
1. Quit iPhoto
2. Copy the iPhoto Library to the External Disk. - Now you have two full Libraries.
3. In the Internal disk, remove any pics that you don’t want: Put them in the iPhoto trash and empty it. (Hint: iPhoto will baulk at trashing too many pics at one go. So, trash and empty the trash every 100 pics or so.)
Now you have a Full Library on the External, and a smaller subset on the Internal.
To choose between them: Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library'
Managing Multiple Libraries - including moving pics/albums/rolls and metadata between them - is greatly facilitated by using iPhoto Library Manager

Ram issues stopping MBP from booting up

I recently bought a MBP with 2GB of RAM. I installed another 1GB and at first everything was fine. However, after a week or so i found that when i boot it up the light stays on but the screen is black and the machine won't start up.
After reading various posts about swapping the boards around etc... i tried this and hey presto, it worked. Literally another week later and the problem started again.
Basically I've tried every permutation; the 2GB on it's own, the 1 GB on it's own, each in different slots, opposite slots etc..etc.. and have concluded that both boards work fine independently in the bottom slot but neither will work in the top. The minute i put any thing in the top slot it won't boot.
I work with Logic using a lots of virtual instruments. I NEED 3GB of RAM MINIMUM! Is this something i can fix or is it a 'back to the factory' job????

If the original 2 x 1GB RAM works then your problem is the 2GB SODIMM you bought. Otherwise, your slots have been damaged through your upgrade 9though not necessarily your fault) so in this case you need to call AppleCare.

How do you stop IPhone from booting image program ON PC?

On my PC (not Mac), my image program boots up every time I connect the IPhone. I know it does this if there are photos, but it is annoying. I can't find anything on Itunes or its help.

Linksys WMP300N not being detected and keeping from booting.

My PowerMac G5 needs wireless from this point forward. I installed a Linksys WMP300N in the PCI slot and it keeps the G5 from booting. I plug it back in after intitial booting and it isnt detected. I think it is a power issue and this is verified working, both the PCI slot and the card. I would really like some help friends. Thanks!

Scb-68 and PCI-8331 what is converting my analog sgnal into digital%3F

Long ago, around 7 years ago, I worked on a project in which I interface photodetector to my computer through SCB-68 kit. The SCB-68 kit was connected to computer using PCI-8331 card.
Now, my input was analog signal from photodetector but at programming interface I was getting digital values for computation. Now my confusion about the conversion task done by which part of this connection?
SCB-68 was converting the input signal and supplying digital output? or PCI-8331 was doing digitization before delivering information to computer? or labview itself was doing it after getting signal from PCI-8331?
can anyone please clear me?

The scb-68 is just a dumb terminal block. The pci-8331 is http://sine.ni.com/nips/cds/view/p/lang/en/nid/13179 and does not connect to photodetectors so your memory is flawed about the part number. An actual DAQ card would have done the conversion.

How do I stop Firefox from automatically placing the cursor in a text box? On certain pages such as Google.com the cursor will be moved to the search text box automatically after a couple seconds from the page loading. So I'll be typing in the address bar or something and then half of what I am typing in the address bar becomes cut off and starts being entered in the Google.com text box for search. The same happens on Facebook.com and the cursor is automatically moved to the Status Update text box. I assume this is a built in "feature" of the web page, but it's damn annoying. Especially when I start typing in my status update box on Facebook before the page completely loads and then halfway through typing (once the page is done loading) my cursor is moved to the starting position of the text area and my text is cut off.
Just the be clear the actual mouse pointer isn't being moved, just the prompt for entering text.
How can this be stopped?

How can I stop iCloud from uploading my iCal & Address Book: Help!

I just made all the updates for my iMac and iPhone. All of them.
Then I (un)checked everything but "Find my Mac/iPhone"
Dispite my settings, I can still find replicas of my iCal and Address Book in iCloud through its Safari interface.
How can I delete my iCal and Address Book from the cloud and stop iCloud from mirroring them in the cloud.

How to stop vdbench from external applications? What are the impacts?

I am using vdbench to test following scenario:
1) Start vdbench - do read/write (I use poweshell start-process to start vdbench which returns me the process object )
2) Poll for particualr system event(my test condtion). When the event happens stop read/write ASAP(To stop the process I use powershell Stop-process and pass process object as the argument. This actually stops IO as seen task manger)
3) Continue testing
I want to understand
1) Are the steps followed correct?
2) What is the correct method to stop vdbench from external application?

An other thought, that maybe is of interest to you, coming in the next version of Vdbench.
A conversation with one of my internal users:
It does not make sense to look at current Vdbench output trying to figure out what is happening when.
This locks us in to tricks and guessing and prevents me from make changes to the output.
Monday I will create a new file in Vdbench: status.html
This file will only be there for any kind of wrappers to see what is going on.
I'll make sure that the file contents are flushed to the file system as soon as a line of text has been written.

How do I stop iPhoto from launching every time I sync my iPhone?

I have looked for something in Preferences on both my iPhone's PHOTOS tab as well as in iPhoto but cannot find where to tell whatever I need to tell to stop iPhoto from launching automatically every time I hook up my iPhone to my Mac to sync. This is really annoying and I'd so much rather just handle anything like that via the iTunes interface vs. another window/program that has to operate to deal with stuff on the iPhone. It's INelegant at best and just simply a pain in the arse at worst.

You mean I can use this Image Capture thing for moving stuff from scanners as well?
You bet. Some don't prefer using iPhoto to store all imported digital camera photos or any such application (not sure why but to each his/her own) so Image Capture can be used instead which is a simple import/transfer application. Using Image Capture, you can download some or all, remove photos from the camera after the download process, select a default download location or create a new folder in the location of choice and use a chosen automatic task such as crop to a 4' x 6' which occurs after the download process is complete.
A nice simple little application which has some juice for those who don't like using iPhoto or similar type application.
I'm in the habit of rooting around the applications folder and utilities folder with a new Mac purchase so I was aware of Image Capture but I've always preferred using iPhoto for my digital camera import process.

I want to edit etc/cups/printers.conf to change printer IP addresses in Snow Leopard. I edit after "sudo killall -9 cupsd". cupsd restarts before I can finish the edit. How can I stop cupsd from restarting until I finish editing printer.conf?

Interfacing with vb from java

How to stop iCloud from signing back on

Because apps always crash when iCloud is on, I wanted to sign off iCloud. But there's a REAL problem.
iCloud keeps signing back in! Pages, SimpleText, Keynotes, et al won't load document windows at all with iCloud enabled but if I sign out, it signs out and I could open the app... but minutes later, iCloud just signs back and it gets to stop apps from opening!
Here's what I do.
Open System Preferences. Click on iCloud icon. Sign out. It will bring up dialogs asking me to delete or not. I delete them. I don't want iCloud because it's just not mature.. it makes too many mistakes in terms of user interface (which is a shock considering Apple should know better). It signs out and it shows two textboxes with Apple ID and Password as placeholders. If I leave it alone, I can open the apps and a blank document window (or theme chooser) appear.
Then I close the System Preference. I again open System Preferences and click on iCloud... it's BACK ON! I never signed in! And once again, apps won't open at all.
I've tried EVERYTHING without luck. I turned off iCloud account and it still doesn't do a thing.
How do I stop iCloud from signing in? And even better, is there a way to remove iCloud from Mac?

This does not work for me. It only hides the videos in the cloud I have not on my ipad air. The videos I already downloaded are still there, taking space. When I look at the TV shows in the itunes interface it does not even show that they are on my iPad. I tried adding them, syncing. Then it shows two copies (both run) of said videos. I delete the video and only the one added from itunes is deleted. The copy I downloaded and watched from iCloud is still there and not removable or deletable. I did not have this problem in iOS6. I could manually delete videos no mater what way I put them on the iPad within the itunes interface. This is a new iPad air that I setup as new, using the iCloud to populate the apps and settings, and then I added some stuff manually from cloud. It seems to be alot diffreent in how it operates though and I had this with my old ipad3 and iOS7 as well. Hiding the videos does not remove them...what do I do now?
Since it is a fresh, new ipad setup that took quite some time to get passwords and such setup or from cloud settings I hate to reset and start over, that is a pain.

Stopping Aperture from recognizing iPhone

Howdy.
Is it possible to stop Aperture from loading when an iPhone is connected, without turning off "use this application when camera is attached?" I don't use the camera on my iPhone, and everytime I connect my phone to my MBP to sync/charge, Aperture opens and it's a real pain in the rear.
Any suggestions?

Eric, I tried your suggestion of importing the photos into Aperture, but oddly it STILL pops up when I connect my iPhone, so I'm stumped. What version of Aperture are you using? I'm using A2, so I don't know if that makes a difference or what. I think at this point the best solution for me, is to disable camera recognition and mounting in Aperture and just open it manually... Imagine having Photoshop and Illustrator open, then absentmindedly docking the iPhone... not only does itunes pop up (which is open for music) but then Aperture wants to get in the way/throw me to another desktop. What makes it even more painful, is that my aplib is on an external FW drive. Thank goodness it's not on USB or NAS, or I'd be waiting a few.
I totally agree with you about customizing the applications to the user's specs, though, I do see the advantage to having a set interface across the board.... It wouldn't be so much fun to go somewhere and use another person's copy of Aperture only to get lost in their interface setup, though keeping panels open across edits shouldn't be a hack, just common sense.
