PCI bus and memory ranges in Device Manager.

Hello,
I looked in device manager on my netbook that has no dedicated graphics card (so no dedicated VRAM) and uses shared system RAM as
it’s video buffer, the following memory ranges have been assigned to the on board card -
If I then change the view in device manager to ‘Resources by type’, Windows shows the following memory ranges to be on the PCI bus
Basically all the memory ranges that have been assigned to the card are shown to be also on the PCI bus. I would understand this with
a dedicated graphics card where data needs to be forwarded onto the PCI bus but I know my netbook is using system memory as the frame buffer which then I assume the card reads from there.
Do you know why these addresses are shown to be on the PCI bus, is it just because the card is a PCI device so it’s easier for Windows
just to display them as if they were on that bus, and anything written to these address will still go into system memory?
I know it’s a bit of a random question but I’ve been trying to find an answer online and can’t seem to find anything.
Any help would be appreciated,
Thanks.

Hi,
For your question: Do you know why these addresses are shown to be on the PCI bus, is it just because the card is a PCI device so it’s easier
for Windows just to display them as if they were on that bus, and anything written to these address will still go into system memory?
Yes.
You can check the hardware memory usage via Resource Monitor.

  • PCIe bus to memory access timeout

We make telecom network interface cards to use with our middleware software product. The PCIe variant of this card (which uses a PLX 8311 bridge chip) is reporting a timeout while trying to access memory via the PCIe bus on an M9000 server. The chip is trying to read a DMA descriptor from PCIe memory and is not granted access within 33 mSec. Does this sound familiar to anyone?

  • No "IEEE 1394 Bus host controllers" node in device manager

I have a new computer running Windows 7. It is functioning well, apart from the firewire card not being recognized. I can see that the BIOS does see the firewire card. Pages on the web offering advice on this kind of problems start their solutions with going
to the device manager and expanding the "IEEE 1394 Bus host controllers" node in the device tree. Only I don't have such a node. How can I get the "IEEE 1394 Bus host controllers" node to appear in the device manager?
Windows update reports that Windows is up to date.

This is one of many threads I came across googling roughly 'IEEE 1394 device not showing up in device manager'. After a lot of reading I never found a real solution - until I started piecing some things together. This is what I did and it works, seems very
simple, logical. Thought I should share it, hopefully save someone else the agony of searching and reading for hours.
Basically, what I think is or can be happening -- and I'm no expert at all -- is that there's miscommunication between the OS, the bus, and the device. The OS doesn't install the service for the bus unless the device is plugged in at startup (the external
hard drive, camera, or whatever), and sometimes it doesn't install the service even if the device is plugged in. Perhaps the device is supposed to send a message that starts the service - who knows. Maybe on older devices the driver isn't doing what it's supposed
to do, and perhaps you have no updated driver and can't get one.
In any event, I edited an entry in the registry that tells the 1394 bus host controller to start at OS startup instead of 'on demand'. After a restart, the bus host will load at startup, and when you plug your firewire device in, the bus host will detect
it and run normally... At least it works for me. Here's the instructions:
Go to search, regedit.exe, run program. This opens the registry.
Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurentControlSet\Services and find the folder that corresponds to the 1394 bus host you normally use or see in device manager. On my computer it's 1394ohci. You might have to do a little digging here to make sure you've got
the right service. There's actually 2 folders/entries in my registry that look similar. I used this one and it's working for me.
When I click on the 1394ohci folder it brings up a list of settings. For "Start," "REG_DWORD," the 'Data' value is probably going to be 0x00000003. That means 'start on demand'. I changed this to 2, which means 'start at startup'. To
modify value, right click on start, select modify, and type in 2. Here's a link to descriptions of this stuff:  http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc722564.aspx
That's it. Close the editor, restart, and the IEEE 1394 Bust Host controller\1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller should show up in device manager. And when you plug-in your device, it should be detected. Depending on what driver you're using for the bus
host controller, you might see an extra entry popup in device manager (if you're using the 'legacy' driver). Otherwise nothing else pops up when you plug in your device. I guess it might depend on the device though. That's the way it is for me with an older
    Acom external hard drive...
    Hope this helps...

  • Non Functional Wireless Adapter: Visible and Functional According to Device Manager Doesn't Appear in IPConfig

    Hi all,
This one has me completely lost. The user normally connects via a USB wireless adapter, which stopped working a few days ago apparently of its own accord. The device is detected and reported as working by both Device Manager, and the Network Connections
menu, however it doesn't appear at all in ipconfig- Not even to say that it isn't connected to anything. When I try to connect to a network, it reports no connections available as if it was out of range. However, I'm sitting right under a known working access
    point.
The device is enabled in devmgmt, there is no physical switch to disable it, and the adapter itself is tested as working both on different hardware running Windows 7 and 8, and the same hardware running Slax Linux. Wired connectivity to the affected machine
appears to be fully functional, which leads me to discount the TCP/IP stack.
I've tried the default PnP driver, the driver that came with the device on a mini-CD, and the latest driver from the manufacturer. I've also tried a completely separate USB wireless adapter, made by a different manufacturer, which proved to have the same
    problem with identical symptoms.
I've been through power settings, it is set to Maximum Performance as per the default. I've checked the WLAN autoconfig service, which is running and starting automatically as it always has. I've even checked registry settings suggested elsewhere on technet,
and those are fine. System restore produced no results. Virus scan came back clean.
The only two things that seem unusual are A) the fact that the adapter doesn't appear at all in ipconfig, and that Cisco AnyConnect VPN client begins complaining in the event viewer, error description "ROUTTABLE_ERROR_GETBESTROUTE_FAILED" - Presumably
due to the sudden lack of usable interfaces
With all this, I'm out of ideas. Thanks for reading, and any suggestions (even insane ones) would be much appreciated.

  • Dc/dvd drive not functioning and not recognized in device manager after installing Windows 7 OS

I have an HP Pavilion laptop, model # dv9617nr, which was originally loaded (from the factory) with Windows Vista.  I upgraded the OS to Windows 7 a few months ago, and initially, everything worked fine.  Within the last month, however, my DVD/CD ROM optical drive stopped working and is not recognized in Explorer, and does not show up in Device Manager.  I have tried a number of fixes from this forum and the Microsoft Windows 7 forums, with no positive effect.  I should note that upon inserting a disc in the drive, everything sounds normal (device spins and the external LED lights up) but nothing happens and the unit shuts down.
I have no idea if this is a software or a hardware issue.  I did check the HP website for software and driver updates for my model and the Windows7 OS, but HP has no update for this PC running this OS.  ANY help is greatly appreciated.

  • Ipad wont sync and exclamation point in device manager

I cannot get my ipad to sync with my new computer.  There is an exclamation point in the device manager by this device and I dont know what it means.  I do not want to uninstall itunes and reinstall as I am afraid I will lose all the music I have put in there......What does this message mean??
Windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required for this device.A recent hardware or software change might have installed a file that is signed incorrectly or damaged or that might be malicious software from an unknown source. (Code 52)

Thanks , for responding .I am using windows7 and I have uninstalled the dvd drive and restarted the pc numerous times .When i try to update the driver through windows it does'nt work.I have downloaded all the software for my toshiba L300 from the toshiba website and everything works fine, but Toshiba only provides firmware for the pioneer dvd rom not the driver .
I can't find the correct driver anywhere without having to pay for it .The problem is that my dvd rom was working fine and suddenly it showed the exclamation mark in device manager and shows it as cd instead of dvd ..

  • "Device Manager is running in read-only mode because you are running it on a remote computer" when local

Hello - since configuring a Windows Web Server 2008 R2 x64 to be hardened for an internet-facing deployment I receive this:
"Device Manager is running in read-only mode because you are running it on a remote computer."
    when entering Device Manager.
I have tried reversing the changes I have made, such as:
    - Re-adding Client for Microsoft Networks
    - Re-enabling NetBIOS over TCP-IP
    - Re-adding File and Printer Sharing
    - Disabling the Windows Firewall in all profiles (public, domain, private)
I get no joy. It looks like a Microsoft ballsup. I'll try and use Process Monitor to have a look. Google returns only 1 page for this error.
    Luke

    Got it.
After my changes to DHCP and static IPs the machine picked up the IP address of another server on my little home LAN. The hostname in IPCONFIG was different to the actual server computer name and so this led Device Manager to think the connection and the
    local machine were different.
What an odd and infuriating problem. My thoughts on this are that Microsoft should be more verbose with error messages and their causes. For example, displaying the values of the assertion would help diagnose a problem; "The host-name www02.farm.brand.com
that you are connecting from does not match the local host-name rest01.dev.farm.brand.com. Connections from remote computers can only use Device Manager in read-only mode; some options will be disabled."
When troubleshooting, the main thing on an engineer's mind is "what has led Windows to its [unexpected] conclusion?"

  • Info about "Server profile" in Device manager

I want to update my firmware via over the air to my mobile directly.
    I am using a N73 and N82.
In device manager of N73, there is a default profile named Nokia.
I can check for updates with it from my mobile directly.
But N82 needs to define a server profile. Need ifro for that.
    Please help
    thanks

T-Mobile  did the same on their custom firmware for N97  and now I find the same on N8
no server  profile   in the end on my N97 i got so fed up i  changed the product code and got rid off all the T-Mobile nonsense blote-wear and it got me the Server profile.
I Don't want to hack product code on my N8    in Nokia's online FAQ's is says how to set the server profile but it doesn't seem to work for N8.
I wish Nokia would stop allowing networks to have custom versions. (let them brand by a theme only)
Anyone know the Server Profile settings  for N8   ?

  • Monitors Showing 2 and 3 times in Asset Manager

All IBM's we have show 2 and 3 monitors in device manager. I believe it is
caused by the display adapter. There is no way to permanently delete the
monitors. The problem is that because of this all 3 monitors also show in
asset manager. Is there anyway to delete these in asset manager?

Are these monitors being detected with serial numbers?
If so, are they identical serail numbers or different ones?

    Hi,
Organizational Management is useful in a business transaction like activity, sales order etc. You can determine the org. structure or Business Partners (like employee responsible) for a business transaction.
Organization Model can be used for different functions like Sales, Service, Marketing (You can check this by clicking on "Function" tab in the Org Model screen). If you click Sales function and go to Attributes tab you will see particular set of attributes, while if you click service function you will see different set of attributes and also if you click marketing function you will see another different set of attributes. These attributes are helpful in determination of BPs based on these attributes through Organizational data determination.

  • [device manager] permanent show hidden devices

    Hi there
i would like to permanently enable the view of hidden devices.
Yes, i´ve already set the variable DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES and yes i know that i have only to click the View menu, and then select Show hidden devices.
But this selection is lost after every reboot.
    How to set it permanently?

    Hi,
From what I know you cant set the view, show hidden devices permanently. But you can set the DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES permanently.
You could open MMC and load in the Device manager snap in. Then select view --> Show hidden devices. Then save that MMC console. If you load that up it will always open with View -- Show hidden devices. A bit of a workaround but will solve the issue ;)
To set the DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES you need to add it to the enviroment variables.
"Setting the DEVMGR environment variable as described here affects only the instance of Device Manager launched from that Command Prompt window. If you want the change to be persistent, open Control Panel, open System, click Advanced System Settings, click
Environment Variables on the Advanced tab, and define a new variable for this setting. If you add the variable to the User Variables section, the setting will apply only to the current user. If you edit the System Variables section, the extra information will
be visible in Device Manager for all users of the current computer. "
    Hope this helps.

  • How to get rid of mobile device management?

So I upgraded my iPad to 8.1 and when it got done restoring and upgrading, during setup it said that this device was being setup by Schuyler Community School system and under the Mobile Device Management section there is a profile for Meraki Management.  How do I get rid of this?  It has all kinds of rights to remotely control my iPad.  I've tried restoring it again.  I deleted the downloaded iOS 8.1 upgrade from iTunes and had it download it again.  Same thing when the restore is complete.  Any ideas?
    THank you!

Sorry, but it sounds like you have received stolen property. Take a look at the back of the iPad and I bet you will see the Schuyler Community Schools tamper proof asset tag and also an engraving from Schuyler Community Schools. But there was a connection error.. so i did a bit searching on the net and went to (http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=KB00125)  which gave me a solution to install m\y driver.. But when i try to manually install my driver, it shows an error   "THE SERVICE CANNOT BE STARTED, EITHER BECAUSE IT IS DISABLED OR IT HAS NO ENABLED DEVICES ASSOCIATED WITH IT"  now the USB is working because my phone is being recognised by the laptop and moreover in the device manager od my Vista, Blackberry is being shown... I cn see in drivers that Drivers have been installed but the drive Information such as Version, date is not available and the driver is unsigned...
Can someone tell me what exactly might the problem?? any reply will be appreciated..

I encountered the same issue, Not sure if you'll have the same results, but all i did was enable windows updates, and did an automatic driver update from the web (as in from windows updates) and after a reboot, all was back to normal.
