PCI Card Slot - Wireless LAN Card Problems - Help!

Help.
I'm having problems getting my board to recognize both:
Linksys WMP11 Wireless LAN card; and
Netgear WG311T Wireless LAN card
(returned the Linksys card, but the Netgear card had the same problem).
Neither card is being picked up by Windows (XP Home), although both the "power" and "link" LED lights up when inserted.  I've tried every PCI slot, same issue.  Nothing shows up in the device manager, and no new hardware is detected.  The Netgear software tells me that the card has not been installed.
Am left thinking I need to RMA the board.  Any suggestions woudl be much appreciated.

My roommate has a similar setup as you and I am having the same problem getting a pci wifi card to work in the machine.  I have tried both a Linksys WMP54G and a Netgear WG311. Both cards will scan for networks bit will never connect my router (Linksys WRT54G). Just to get them to recognise the network, I have to turn off WEP, and turn on ESSID broadcast.  Both of these cards work prefect in other computers. I know it not a signal problem because I can take my laptop and set it in the same location and it gets excellent signal.
I have tried changing slots in the machine, the wifi cards were the only PCI cards in the machine and an GeForce 6800 GT in the AGP slot. I have no idea what the problem could be. But I'm leaning towards the mobo at this point.

Receiving a pop up saying that there is an update to ralink 802.11n wireless lan card. Is this crucial?Bad past experience with updating things that weren't crucial.  Thanks!

Hello , Welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience! To help you get the most out of the HP Forums I would like to direct your attention to the HP Forums Guide First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More. I have read your post on how your desktop computer displays a pop-up message prompting you to update the wireless card installed. I would be happy to assist you in this matter! If you are not experiencing any difficulties connecting to a wireless network on your computer, I would not count the update as crucial. If your computer is having trouble connecting to the network, even if the problem is intermittent, it may be a good idea to install the update. I hope this helps, and if you have any other questions or concerns feel free to post back! Cheers

  • Windows xp on te2000 cant detect wireless lan card

I have a te2000 laptop the wireless lan card is detected as PCMCIA MTD-0002.
I downloaded the drivers but even after I install windows wont use it. I get error code 10.
How do I make it work ?
The wireless port is enabled but it has an orange light (not green) any ideas why ?
    Thanks in advance
    Ken.

    Thnks Joao for the response.
I downloaded the drivers here but even if I install them Windows doesnt let me use it and there is the yellow question mark in device manger & status is T'his device cannot start. (Code 10)'
If I remove the driver and let windows search for it manually it doesnt get it, so it installs it as pcmcia-mtd-0002.
How do I tell if it's Orinoco or not ?
At the bottom the wireless lan has a number 00022d 366fed if that is any help.
Notice hot the timestamps on this board are off :)
    Cheers

  • Need Wireless lan card for L100-179

Hi guys can any one advise me where to buy a wireless lan card and any advise and installing one please

    Hello
In my opinion the first step is your local dealer where you have bought the unit. This unit is not known to me but I presume unit is WLAN ready and upgrade with mini PCI WLAN card is possible.
Other way to find out which WLAN card is compatible with your unit is to contact service partner in your country.

  • P43 Neo - PCI wireless LAN performance problems

    Hi,
i recently installed the Neo P43 Board. Everything runs fine so far, except PCI wireless LAN (maybe more, it's the only PCI card I use). I already updated the BIOS to 1.6 but it doesnt fix it.
I tried 2 different WLAN cards (1 Realtek and 1 Ralink). Both of them basicly work, but the transfer rates are painfully slow although the connection quality is reported as good enough.
    Anyone else having issues?

How low are the transfer rates?
It varies a bit but most of the time very low (as low as 1kbps or sometimes not working at all)
What are you connected to (Router?, What kind of Router)?
Connected to a router. It's a "Speedport" router, I think they are manufactured by Siemens.
When you talk about the transfer rate, do you mean the transfer rate that you get when you try to copy files to another system in a Wireless network?
I mean downloading files from the Internet over the router, or generally the connection to the router (like status page).
The Ralink card used to work just fine in my older PC with an Athlon XP / Nforce Chipset (and several other PCs), but on the Neo P43 makes problems with both, the Ralink and the Realtek card.
I'm not absolutely sure it is the board that makes these problems, but I can't think of any other source for this problem anymore.

  • JDS fails to detect wireless LAN Card

I've installed JDS on my Dell laptop (Latitude C840). The network works fine with my wired LAN card - 3COM 3C920-TX. However, JDS fails to detect my wireless card - "True Mobile 1150". Any idea?

    Winston:
I would appreciate any info you can provide on how you got the 3com network card to work.
    I have a 3com 3c940 in my ASUS p4p800 and the
    JDS doesn't install it.
3com say the 3c940 is compatible with Linux 2.4 kernel and SuSE, so theoritically Sun should have installed it correctly, not so.
ASUS says I need kernel source installed in
/usr/src/linux - there is no such directory.
The nonexistent manual in Java Desktop certainly doesn't help.
    Any help would be appreciated.
Can I install the latest GCC compiler or do I need to recompile a pile of programs to use it.
I believe the ATI video card needs files and compilers installed, which the default install did not do.
Thanks in advance for all and any help.
New to Linux, like the JDS all except the network issues. Wireless doesn't work and realize it is because a huge company like Cisco, the grand daddy of networking which brought Linksys are not supporting the broadcom chipset. ARGH!!

  • 802.11 Ethernet wireless Lan card on ipaq

Yep it does. I have a 3630, and have a orinocco silver 802.11b pcmcia wireless card, which works fine (drivers can be obtained from orinocco's web site). And the usual java Sockets work fine.

FWIW that card can be purchased on eBay brand new for $40...and yes, a genuine one with a FRU...
I hate when I have to disagree with Mr. Bolton whose opinions and knowledge I hold in very high regard, but many people (myself included) have bricked their laptops using the aforementioned patch/hack/name it as you like it...

  • Sd card slot not reading card

I have a Pavilion dv5 1235dx running with Windows Vista. My sd car slot doesn't read the memory card anymore and if I explore to find the file myself it is not there.  But I know that the card is fine because other computers read it.  It worked in the past but has stopped working recently.  What should I do?

, Hello and thanks for posting on the HP support forums.  Here is a lint that should help you with the sd card reader issue. HP Notebook PCs - Using and Troubleshooting Memory Card Readers (Windows 7 and Vista) Please let me know how this goes.  Thanks again for posting and have a great day.

  • MX922 wireless LAN setup problems with iMac

I am trying to setup my new MX922 printer with a new imac. During the original setup phase, I got a message instructing me to press the "WPS" button on the "access point" for 3 seconds. Before I could figure out what the heck either a WPS button or an access point is, the setup screen on the printer disappeared. Now I will have to go back through the setup process again, but the instructions to do so include using the dosc. My imac does not have a disc drive. I know that the files can be downloaded on the canon website, however there are several drivers or software programs for the MX922 that can be downloaded, and it is not at all clear which I would need.

    Hi Toeknail,
To install the printer wirelessly, please click on the link below to go to the Drivers and Software page for the PIXMA MX922:
PIXMA MX922 Drivers and Software page
Once on the initial download page for your model, please do the following:
    1.  Verify that the operating system detected in the "OPERATING SYSTEM" drop-down menu is correct, and if it is not, please click the drop-down menu to select your operating system.
    2.  Next, please click on the red arrow next to the "RECOMMENDED FOR YOU" section and click on the CUPS driver file.  When you do, another page will appear giving details of the file you are about to download will appear.
    3.  Please scroll down on the Details page and agree to the terms of the disclaimer message to continue with the download process by clicking on the "I AGREE - BEGIN DOWNLOAD" button.  After clicking the "I AGREE - BEGIN DOWNLOAD" button, follow the instructions to download and install the driver.  The time for the download process may vary depending on the speed of your Internet connection and the size of the file being downloaded.
Once you have downloaded and installed the CUPS driver file from the website, please also install all other items from the Recommended for You section of the website.  Please also download and install the ICA drivers from the "DRIVERS" section, and all of the software from the SOFTWARE section of the page.
Since you plan on using the printer wirelessly, please be sure to install the Canon IJ Network Tool (found in the Recommended for You section) last after all other software has been installed.
Once all items have been downloaded, please double-click on each of the items on your Mac to install them.  Once all items have been installed, please restart your Mac and attempt to print.
    Hope this helps!

  • HT204384 SD card slot not recognizing card

I have inserted and reinserted and reinserted my SD card into my laptop. But it still isn't working. I have tried all the normal tricks. Blowing on it etc. I think it may have broken...is this possible? How much will it cost to fix it?

When you insert your SD Card, see if you can see it in Disk Utility.  If you can see it there, then format/erase that SD Card in MAC OS Extended Journaled if you're not using it for anything else or use FAT or exFat if you'll be using it with Windows.  FAT if you're using it for your Digital Camera.

  • Wireless Lan PCI card Ralink- System Preferences Network Configuration HELP

I just bought a PCI Wireless Lan Card for my G5 tower.
Specifically the card i bought is:
    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220500089785&ssPageName=STRK: MEWNX:IT
    It is a Ralink - www.Ralinktech.com
I installed the driver. Both the card and the driver show up in the System Profiler.
    BEYOND THIS I AM CLUELESS!

PCI Is at the top of the list. it says NOT CONNECTED next to it. But. Where it says status it says: "STATUS: Cable unplugged" ( and underneath) "The cable for PCI Ethernet Slot 4 is not Plugged In."
    What cable??
Configure is set to "Using DHCP"
As i said before. in system profiler it shows up in the correct slot and the driver is installed.
Ralink has its own software that pops up too called WirelessUtilityCardBusPCI. Without me doing anything, my router name shows up on its list so it does recognize it. But connecting to the internet i cannot do nor getting it to come up in System Prefs. Anybody Mess with WirelessUtilityCardBusPCI?
