PCI Express and Soundblast

I just got a new machine that has PCI Express card slots in it. I am new to this technology so I have a total noob question. Can you use soundblaster cards in a PCI Express slot? And on a larger scheme, can you use PCI cards in PCI Express slots?
Thanks,
-murk

As everybody said... No. PCI-express and PCI are not really compatible.
And I'd like to reply on the posts regarding PCI-express soundcards. If any card like that would be produced, I guess we'd need mainboards with more PCI-E slots than we have now. Now it's all PCI-E on GPU's and 2 PCI-E slots for crossfire/SLI setu
ps.
Gi'ven I want to have a decent gaming machine in the foreseeable future, I'd need atleast 3 if not 4 PCI-E slots. Something like a Physics processing unit comes to mind, 2 GPU's and a soundcard... which would also conclude in a lot of users should be upgrading their systems to a higher substandard then now. Upgrading is fun and all, but if they people can't afford to upgrade that often, most companies would stay pretty low.
That's just my 2 cents. But seeing the developments running wild regarding computers I wouldn't be too surprised if we'd see it happen soon.

*X-Fi Titanium PCI Express and DVD-A Playerg Hi Guys
Can anyone tell me if the Creative Mediasource DVD-A player works with the X-Fi Titanium PCI-E card under Windows 7, or indeed, at all. I've just bought a Titanium card and when I try to install the DVD-A player (latest version....) I get a message, 'Set up can't find any supported product...' That wouild be a bummer as I have a fair number of DVD-A discs and I would like to play them on my PC. I know that Power DVD 8 Ultra will play them but does it downmix the audio streams or something like that. I have a Pioneer DVD-A player but it is more convenient to play them this way if it is possible. I laso have Windows Vista so if it's only a problem with the OS that would be a start.
Anyway, any help would be much appreciated.
    Thank you in anticipation
    Best Regards

    Hi Guys
Many, many thanks for all your help with this.....NOT!!!!
I really hate it when you come to forum to ask for help and everybody fecking ignores you....was the question too hard for you. I thought it was really simple, does the DVD-A player work with this card under this OS or not. I at least thought some of the Creative mods might help, I've just spent my hard earned cash on this card after all. As it is an X-Fi card I thought the DVD-A player would work okay but it doesn't so maybe I'm doing something wrong but I don't know because I didn't get an answer.
    Thanks a whole bunch guys

  • SoundBlaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio PCI-Express and XFX 9800GT graphics c

    Hi
I have just bought a SoundBlaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio PCI-Express card and looked at the motherboard where I have a XFX 9800GT graphics card installed and noticed the PCI-E slot where it attatches to the motherboard is right next to the graphics card and I am concerned it may cause air flow ventilation problems for the fan on the graphics card. The gap is about 2 mm.
.Does anyone think think this may cause the graphics card problems?
    2. Is there an adapter/extention?lead that can be?connected to the PCI-E slot so I can attatch?the X-Fi Extreme card so I can move it away from the graphics card ?
Any ideas on this much appreciated.
    Mack

The only way your going to know the answer to is by measuring the cards tempds before and after installing the sound card.
Graphic cards run with certain temp limits, and I guess there must be one for yours.
No idea on 2...all google throws up is "PCI Express to PCI Adapter".

  • Enable both PCI-Express and onboard video on Ultra 20 M2?

I don't see any bios options to enable the onboard video if I have a video card installed in the PCI-Express 16 slot. Is this possible? I'd like to run the workstation dual-head.

The board will detect a video card in the pci-e 16x slot and auto-disable the onboard video to avoid conflicts. Apparently , there is no way to manually enable the onboard video while a card is present.

    and
    X-Fi I/O Dri've Upgrade Kit
    http://pl.europe.creative.com/shop/product_bundles.asp?category=4&subcategory=0&produ ct=2&page=
    compatible with each other?
If not which other X-Fi Titanium PCI-E Cards are compatible with this I/O Dri've?
Maybe X-Fi Titanium Fatalty Pro Seriies or X-Fi Xtreme Audio PCI-E?
Please help me, and thank you?

That I/O Dri've upgrade kit is not compatabile with any Titanium series card.
The Titanium Championship series has its own front bay, but it has slightly different functionality.
The Xtreme Audio PCI-E isn't a Titanium and I would recommend staying away from it in general; it doesn't have the hardware audio processing of the other 'real' X-Fi cards.

  • X58 pro i7 pci express 2.0 issue with sata controller

    hello
i installed rosewill rc-225 (marvell controller) pci express 2.0 x1 card. my crucial m4 ssd maxes out at 271MB/s
it is installed in the x16 slot. i tried gen 1 x1 slot i was getting pathetic 130MB/s what is going... on new egg people with this drive and the controller are getting more than 400MB/s
btw i overclocked pci express and it improved the speed i dont get it what is going on...

Quote from: brasstech on 12-September-11, 09:33:56
Running Windows 7 Ultimate 64Bit, Video card is EVGA GTX295, Marvell 91xx Sata 6G Controller Driver is 1.0.0.1034.
    Oh wow that is crazy.
So there are only 2 explanations left since I only have GTX260.
    1. I have some fluke Rev 0 motherboard.
    2. Marvell chip doesn't like Crucial SSDs. Which I did hear kind of on Crucial forum. (I am thinking this).
To finally conclude it is Crucial SSD, can you take me which revision/model of motherboard you have? I think i seen it on a corner of the motherboard printed. Or in the bios.
I'll get mine from the BIOS tonight.
Also I wonder if overclocking the CPU increase the speed.... I asked brasstech if he overclocked... I hope he did, that would explain things.

  • Can Any one please help me find a compatible Wireless N MINI PCI Express Card for my HP G50-133us?

I have a HP G50-133US notebook, it currently has a Atheros AR5007 802.11b/g WiFi Adapter. I am looking to upgrade it to a B/G/NWiFi Card. I can find plenty of Mini Pci-Express Wireless N cards but not sure if they are compatible. Does anyone know if as long as it is Mini PCI-Express and have the correct drivers this would work? Or does anyone know if a known working upgrade that would work? Any help would be appreciated!! Thank you!.

You MUST get an HP branded wi-fi card AND it has to be on the "white list" for your computer in the BIOS or the card will block the computer from booting with an error message. Here is a link to your Manual:
    Manual
Page 19 starts the list of known compatible wifi cards.
You can search eBay by part number for the card and likely find one at a decent price.

  • Poor performance of PCI express storage options

Does anyone know if there's anything lacking in the performance of disk off of PCI express in the mac pro?
e.g. I get better performance straight from a SATA connection with the same disk than I do via eSata via PCI express.
RAID 0 a couple disks off of PCI express and it is also no better than one of the disks connected via SATA.
I thought PCI express would have higher throughput; actually it does on other systems.
Anyone with a PCI express board that actually delivers better performance?

    Hi,
If you desire great RAID performance with a Mac Pro PCIe controller, I would suggest the FirmTek SeriTek/2ME4-E. You can view its RAID performance with up to four OWC SSD's here:
    http://www.firmtek.com/seritek/seritek-2me4-e/perform/
With dual SeriTek/2ME4-E controllers, the four drive RAID provided 850MB/s Write and 995MB/s Read.
    Hope that helps,

  • PCI to PCI express converters...

    Hi,
Just wondering if there are converters for the G4 that you can plug into a free pci slot and give you a pci express interface... which will mean that you can then say install all those pci express cards that are out there into your mac... as long as they have mac drivers.
    thanks

There are adapters that let you plug a PCI card into a PCI-Express slot. These are useful if you buy a PCI-Express computer and need to use a card from your old PCI computer (or need a function that is only available in a PCI card), and don't need to close the case (the adapter will make the card poke up).
There is not much use for an adapter to use a PCI-Express card in a PCI slot. Any function of a PCI-Express card should be available in a PCI card, unless you need the extra speed of PCI-Express, and you wouldn't get that extra speed if you are going through a PCI bus.

  • SoundFX suddenly not working with PCI-Express SB Titanium and Windows 7 HP 64

    Hi guys,
I bought myself a PCI-Express Sounblaster Titanium bulk last friday.
I downloaded some drivers (sorry, I have no idea what Version?) and an Update to the latest official Version (2.7.0007). When I first tried tu use VoiceFX it worked and I was astonished. Its seemed a real cool gimmick.
Strangely, when I tried it again the next day the VoiceFX buttons where still there under the Audio Config thingie, but my voice did not change anymore when I chose for ex. Robot or Ork. It did not matter what I chose, my voice always stayed normal.
Since then I've deen doing nothing else than to deinstall, reinstall drivers, deleting driver traces, trying again. My worst case was that the VoiceFX did not show at all anymore, my best case was as described above.
I even treid the new beta Drivers.
    Does anyone have a solution?
If not, can anyone tell me what dependancies VoiceFX has? Is it enough to install only the drivers or does it need something else as well?
With which Driver Version does it definitely work under Win 7 64?
Oh yeah, I have I microphone which I can switch to Mono or Stereo, does it only work with one of the two? Mine was mostly in Stereo mode. (It comes from a company (dunno which one) thats got nothing to do with computers, games or creative, it's one of those Microphones you connect to your tie).
    Thanks@all

Weird... I changed nothing and yeterday it worked...
I just understand this, but what the hell?
