PCI-GPIB not showing in MAX or correctly in Device Manager.

I am having an issue with the PCI-GBIP working correctly for our setup. I have removed NI 488.2, and all associated software from the computer and have done new installs of NI 488.2 v1.7 and GPIB software.
Configuration for the software allows me to choose the board type, and configure the board.
When I test the board using diagnostics, I get the board as passed.
When I open device manager, it sees the board as PCI Simple Communications Controller. MAX Does not read the card at all.
I am using this to control an ICP-OES using WinLab32, and can get a connection, but am getting a Status Command Failed when attempting to light the plasma. There is communication, but I don't believe that it is all there.
I have tried reinstalling multiple times, but to no avail. There is no NI-VISA on the computer, but I didn't uninstall this either. I attempted to install NI-VISA 4.2 and it stopped communicating entirely.
Any help is greatly appreciated as I am stumped.

Hi Joplrw10,
Which PCI-GPIB card are you using? What OS? It sounds like you may have a driver issue. I would recommend uninstalling all the driver and reinstall according to the below links.

  • My Hitachi external drive does not show up in my Dell Lapto Device Manager

I have a Dell external drive which is Hitachi Model 72323. I was happy with it until I used bit locker to add a password on it. After that it worked a couple of times then my computer will not recognize the drive again. It does not even show up in my device
manager. I plugged the device into many other computers and it is recognized promptly. However, another Dell that I have will only recognize it once in a while. I don't understand why it is not showing up in the device manager. Please help.

    Hi,
I suggest you first install latest Windows Updates for your pc.
    Reinstall USB controllers.
Click Start, then type device manager in the Search box, then click
    Device Manager.
Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers. Right click a device and click
    Uninstall. Repeat for each device.
Once complete, restart your computer. Your USB controllers will automatically install.
Update the BIOS, install your motherboard's latest chipset drivers. you need to view the manufacture website and the user manual
Meanwhile, please refer to the following article if you need some more information:

  • Dv9913cl Notebook not showing DVD drive in system or Device manager, and more

I recently reinstalled the operating system on my stepfathers Pavillion dv9913cl notebook because it was slow and old. After I reinstalled windows I installed all of the drivers from HP's website, and made sure windows was completly up to date. I checked to make sure things on the computer worked, but I forgot to check the DVD drive.
So today when he went to put in a DVD it did not work. I was not present when he and my mom first tried using it, but this is what they passed on:
After putting in a DVD it took a few seconds and then something(I couldn't get them to tell me what) popped up saying something about the DVD region. I couln't get a clear answer on what it told them. My mother said something about it being the wrong region and something about selecting things like US English, and I don't know how what actually popped up for them. I also don't know were this path took them and ended.
Next apparently my mother went searching online. She found a Ask Yahoo that I couldn't relocate that told her to go into help, about windows media player. Then to go to Organize, then layout and show menu bar. Then step two she wrote down is About Windows Media Player -> tech.supportinfo. Specific File to determin codec. Right click file in Library - Properties on file tab - Audio Codec/Video Codec. (I don't know what she was attempting to do here and couldn't get a straight answer. I think the ask yahoo post told her she couldn't play the type of file because of a missing codec, but I dont think that is the problem, I inlcuded what she did though incase somehow it did something bad)
She did some other searching and tried to get into device manager I think to see what it said about the DVD device, but I am not 100%.
**So this is the poiny where I come home. I sit at the computer and pull up device manager.  The DVD device is not listed. I looked at every single entry in device manager, nothing has an exclamation point, and nothing says DVD/CD device or anything close.
I went to HP driver website and pulled up the drivers for this laptop. There was not a particular driver there for the DVD player.
I resarted and went into the BIOS and went to the boot order options. The DVD drive does show up there. (I made no changes)
When I insert a DVD or CD nothing happens. I can hear the drive spinning, but nothing happens on the OS. nothing pops up. It doesnt show up in my computer, and I can't find the DVD or CD to play through any program.
I found this support article. https://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060
I tried all 5 of the resolutions. For resolution 3 I got to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}, but in the right pane there was nothing that said either UpperFilters or LowerFilters. When I did some searching I found some other people who had similar problems and fixed it by doing what is suggested in resolution 3 and deleting the entries for UpperFilters and LowerFilters, but they were never there for me to begin with.
Now I am at a loss on what to do next. It seems like when he first put the DVD in the computer it was recognizing the DVD since it said something about DVD region it must have known a DVD was in there, but I never saw that screen. By the time I got to the computer nothing happens when I put any DVD or CD in.
I apologize for the long post, and thank you for any help that can be provided. (Also I don't use Windows, so please try and explain things as layman as possible.)

    Hello RonFishing,
Welcome to the HP Forums! I hope you enjoy your experience!
I understand the computer appears to be unable to play DVDs, and the required driver in Device Manager is not found. My response will not be as long as your post, but I will do what I can to assist you!
I do not know what Windows operating system you are running. This will be important in resolving the issue. In the meantime, I welcome you to try the steps in this HP document: Resolving DVD and Blu-ray Movie Problems (Windows 7)
Even though the document is for Windows 7, the steps are similar amongst all versions of Windows. Please try the steps and let me know the results.
Thanks for choosing the HP Forums. Have a great day!

  • Iphone 4 makes an continuous intermittent vibration/buzzing sound when plugged into any of computer's 3 usb ports; does not show in itunes or Windows Vista device manager. No problem charging the phone with other power sources. What's going on?

This problem happened intermittently in the past but now happens every time I plug in the phone. I suspect it might be a problem with my computer, an Acer Aspire 4530, perhaps with it's charging function via usb ports? The phone makes the same buzzing sound twice when I connect to other power sources, but continues when connected to computer. I have this issue even when the phone is 100% charged.

  • Ipod nano 4gb not showing in itunes or recognized as device

Out of the blue my nano is not detected as a device with my Windows XP. First I tested my USB port to see if that was the issue. I connected a mouse which was recognized and worked fine. I then got another sync cord thinking maybe my cord went bad and that is not working either. When I used my old cord I received an error message that I exceeded the power limit on my hub port. Which is why I thought my cord was bad. With the second cord I get no such errow however the ipod is charging but doing nothing else. I've gone out to my device list to see if there were any visible errors or anything diabled and its not showing any. But its also not showing an ipod or mass hub device like it normally would. Any thoughts on the issue would be greatly appreciated!

My ipod is doing the same thing. could you please tell me how you fixed it?

  • PCI-7344 not found in MAX 3.1.1 after installing NI-Motion 7.0

    Hi,
I updated my PCI-7344 + LabView 7.0 system with the newest NI-Motion 7.0. After the update the card was not anymore detected in MAX. There was a "broken" device PCI-7344 under NI Motion Devices, which status said something like "This device has been removed or could not be detected" and the Reset command said something like "Could not communicate with the device. Power cycle the computer..". I removed the device from the "Devices and interfaces" list and since that, MAX hasn't had a clue about the card. I've tried the "Create new.." function, but it doesn't show any NI Motion Devices or PCI-7344 anywhere else. I've also tried the Tools/Install legacy driver support, but MAX only notifies that the updates are OK. I've also tried removing the physical device, starting the computer and MAX, reinstalling the device and restarting MAX, but nothing changes. The device is recognised by BIOS as "Unknown device"; in Windows 2000 Pro, the device is well recognised as National Instruments PCI-7344.
One thing that could cause the problem is that I also have LabView 6i installed on the system, although I'm not currently using it for any purpose. Anyway, this seems to prevent the MAX from detecting the correct updates needed when using the "National Instruments Product Updates.." from Tools menu. Perhaps I need some driver software to correct this problem?
I also tried to uninstall the NI-Motion 7.0 and to install the NI-Motion 6.1.5, but after this, the MAX did not work correctly. For example, none of the branches in the configuration tree would expand and the MAX locked up when trying to use the Create New.. / NI Motion Device. Is there a way to uninstall the NI-Motion 7.0 and to replace it with NI-Motion 6.1.5 without removing all NI software from the system?
Before the update, with NI-Motion 6.1.5, the PCI-7344 card was correctly found in MAX and well usable in LabView 7.0.

    Jouni,
A valid serial number is any number > 0. If you have multiple boards in you system, they must each have a unique serial number. This would be the case for any board coming out of manufacturing. The board Jochen had probably came from R&D and was a prototype board.
Your problem with downgrading from NI-Motion 7.0 to NI-Motion 6.1.5 was most likely due to the data stored in the MAX database. When you uninstall NI-Motion, the data in the MAX database remains. The NI-Motion 6.1.5 driver would not have been able to read the data correctly. The easiest way to "clear" this database is to delete the c:\Program Files\National Instruments\MAX\data folder. The only other way is to uninstall MAX, which requires that you uninstall everything. WARNING, Deleting the MAX data folder will delete all MAX settings and set them back to defaults for all NI hardware (uninstalling everything has this same affect, by the way). Downgrading is never as clean as upgrading.
The firmware on a Motion board can always be downgraded by forcing the download of firmware files. To do this, select the board in MAX under Devices and Interfaces. Click on the Firmware tab at the bottom on the window. Highlight "PCI-73XX Firmware" by clicking on it once. Right click on one of the items in the "Firmware name" column to the right. Select "Download All Files".
I do not have a good explaination for why NI-Motion 7.0 did not recognize your board. Do you have a second board you can try in the system? If not, could you ask your local sales representative if they have one you borrow for a quick test? Since the board is recognized by Windows 2000 Device Manager, I don't think there is an issue with the board, but it doesn't hurt verify this.
My best guess is that there was a confict during the installation process and your system did not get all of the required files. Though we do significant installer testing, there are rare occasions when a system is in such a state that the installation process does not function as expected. It is my experience that these rare instances do not occur on clean machines, but on machines that have had multiple products installed and uninstalled. If you do get a chance to try NI-Motion 7.0 again you may want to use these parameters to get the installer to create a log of the installation: "c:\setup.exe l*v c:\log.txt". This assumes that the setup.exe is in the c:\ directory. Go to start>>run and type this in without the quotes. The log file will be named log.txt in the c:\ directory.
Finally, you can technically use NI-Motion 7.0 in LabVIEW 6. You just need to copy the C:\Program Files\National Instruments\LabVIEW 7.0\vi.lib\Motion folder to the vi.lib folder of LabVIEW 6. Though this is not officially supported, there is no reason it shouldn't work.

  • Agilent PCI-GPIB not seen

I have an Agilent 82350A PCI-GPIB. The board is visible in the Control panel and it
seems that there is no conflict related to it, but NI-488.2 program does not see the boad, it gives the message that the GPIB board is not detected. I re-installed everything, the board and the program, and it still does not work. I would appreciate some help. Thank you!

The NI in NI-488 stands for National Instruments and not Agilent. The NI-488 functions will only work with an NI board. To use LabVIEW, you will have to use VISA. Install Agilent's version of VISA, make sure that you've got MAX installed and enable Tulip support.

  • ITunes Podcasts not showing iPhone 4 list correctly

I download The Mike OMeara Show podcast everyday to iTunes on my Win7 laptop everyday.  I then sync the podcast with my iPhone 4.  However, when I look at the iPhone Podcast in iTunes, it does not show all the podcasts that the iPhone actually has.  Any ideas on correcting this?  It is not a big problem, the iPhone shows the right available podcasts.  However, it is annoying.

  • Devices not showing in Max

I just tried to install a USB-6251 in my Laptop (Toshiba Tecra S2). The units is detected and the driver installs. It shows up in the device manager as a properly installed device. However, MAX does not show the device. The Laptop has WInXP-Pro, 2GB RAM and LV 8.20.
When I tried the same thing on my desktop, the 6251 installed in the same way, and then the option to run Test Panels showed up and the
    unit ran happily.
Incidentally, I have a minor problem with a PCMCIA 6024 which takes a long time to show up under DAQmx in Max,  and a PCMCIA -16E4 which insists on showing up under DAQmx as a 6024 (16E4 is not supported by DAQmx). Both show up promptly and work fine under traditional DAQ.
I suspect there is some problem in the device registration part of the WinXP - NI interface. These boards do not list under the add-remove hardware icon either.

    David,
Things have gone from bad to worse. I tried the upgrade in the Laptop with no success, and now the desktop is also playing up.
I have a ner full installation of the Academic Site License- PDS, RT, RIO ... (the works) on both my systems, as I am a regular user of cRIO for almost 1-1/2 years:
    The Laptop story now:
    1. After upgrading to 8.50 (no problems in the install), MAX still not ssing anything.
    2. I tried to close the Configuration Manager it did not even do that. One process (I think mxssvr) did not close.
    3. Tried removing MAX. Removed a lot of other things, incl. LabVIEW.
    4. Removed the entire NI Install. Removed all NI directories in Program Files, Documents and settings > ... etc. Also, the FPGA directories in c:\ etc.
    5. Using Regedit cleaned up virtually all National Instruments entries in the Registry. In otehr words removed all traces of NI software I could.
    6. Reinstalled LabVIEW .....
    7. Reactivated everything.
    8. MAX (4.1) still not working
    9. Checked in Admin Tools > Services. Found Configuration Manager and nidevldu not active.
    10. Tried to start them. Config Manager does not start (Error 1067: The process terminated unexpectedly). nidevldu does start if started manually.
    The Desktop:
    1. Everything was fine.
    2. Upgraded to DAQmx 8.50 incl MAX 4.2.
    3. Now MAX does not work.
    4. Admin > Services shows both processes running.
    5. Still to try to shut down and manually try and clean up Data.
    6. I was looking at some examination solutions and was able to run code (LV legacy) in LV. Could not try out DAQmx as could not do the easy reset from MAX.
I may add that the Laptop has had LV 7.1 (also possibly 7.0), 8.0 (incl. beta), and 8.2! The desktop did not have the 8.0's.
Any ideas! What do I do now. I always have the option of reformatting drive C and starting from scratch, but am loathe to do so. Will take a full working day at least.
    Thanks
    Sanjay.

  • NI PCI 5102 not visible in MAX

    Hi all
I've got a problem on a testrig. I use a PCI 5102 high speed digitizer to acquire a signal. Since this morning, the acquisition and processing of this signal has slowed down and now it takes twice as long as before.
What could be the cause of this problem?
During searching for a solution on the system, I found that the device is not visible in MAX. Two weeks ago, I updated the testrig to LV8.0, which means that I made a single installer - more information to this can be found in this thread:
    http://forums.ni.com/ni/board/message?board.id=170&message.id=164285&view=by_date_ascending&page=1
As said, I installed this approximately two weeks ago and it ran without any problems until this morning. So I wanted to test the card in MAX so that I maybe find something, but firstly it took a relative long time to open the Items and Interfaces node and secondly there was no item in. No PCI 5102, no Fieldpoint modules, no serial ports - although I use these devices in this app.
Is this maybe related to my original problem of the massively slowed down acquisition?
Any fast answer that helps to solve the problem is really highly appreciated, as this testrig is part of a production line.

    Using LV8.0
Don't be afraid to rate a good answer...

    Thomas,
I'm not sure why your 5102 measurements are slowing down, but I do have
a likely solution to your issues with MAX.  Hopefully fixing MAX
    will remedy both problems.
    1) Browse to C:\Program Files\National Instruments\MAX.  There is
a folder named "Data" that has the configuration info for MAX.
    2) Delete the "Data" folder after making a copy on your desktop (it is
rare, but in some cases it may be useful to recover old
configurations).  If Windows won't let you delete the folder, try
ending the nimxs.exe process from task manager.  If you have any
tasks or scales saved in MAX, they will be deleted in this step.
    3) Reboot your computer and open up MAX.  This will force a
refresh of all configuration information for your system, and will most
likely clear up your problems with MAX.
Please let me know if this works for you, and if this fixes the issue
with your digitizer as well.  If this doesn't help, there are
other debugging steps that we can try.
    Thanks,
    Travis W

  • No Audio Device Detected (but it shows up correctly in device-manag

Well, I bought a new soundcard, since I was tired of my old integrated one, and wanted good surround-sound. The model is Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Gamer Fatalty, and my old integrated one is a Realtek-HD (doesn't say more than that).
Now to my problem, I removed the drivers from Realtek (even cleaned lots of it from the registry) and put in the new soundcard in a PCI-slot, as it's supposed to be done. I then started the computer, canceled the automatic installation and installed the drivers from the CD I got with the card (this is what it said I should do), now the card shows up in the device-manager as "Creative SB X-Fi" and it tells me it's working fine etc. The Creative-update software also detects it so that I can download the latest drivers.
However, I have no sound, and in the control-panel's "sound & sound devices" it says "No sound device" and I can't do anything. :/ (not sure if this is what it's called in english, I'm using the swedish version of Windows XP Professional), I can select the soundcard in creatives Volume Panel (where it says "select audio device") without any error-messages, but when I double click the application (to change the volume etc.) it says it can't find any supported soundcards.
I tried removing the drivers etc. for the SB-card and installed the Realtek ones again, but it's the same thing there, it shows up in the device manager (under sound - video & gaming-units) but windows still says it can't find an audio-device. My guess is that there's some kind of conflict between the Realtek-integrated card and the new one.
Anyone got any ideas of what to do? :/
Edit: Also, the computer keeps wanting to install the integrated soundcard, but I can't seem to find any way to turn it off in the BIOS :/ (I have an ABIT motherboard, don't know what type, can't seem to find the box for it). The BIOS is called "Phoenix - AwardBIOS v6.00PG"
I have ofcourse tried to fully remove and reinstall the SB-drivers aswell, but no luck there. :/

next time go into control panel click on sounds, click on record, right click any where in the record box and then put check marks in the boxes that say show disabled devices, and show disconnected devices. Those devices disappear when the boxes are not checked making your pc think there is no output sound.
