PCI IDE Sil680(a) Controller Cards.

I have a Sun Blade 100. I want to add faster/larger capacity disks. After a little research and a man page (man uata), I determined sil680(a) based controller cards will work. The HCL has not been much help.
Which cards has anyone got to work?

I have a Sun Blade 100. I want to add faster/larger capacity disks.
Unfortunately even with Sil680A based cards the capacity is still limited to 137GB.
Martin_Rosenau did investigate on the issue (LBA48 for SPARC and Sil680A). He mentioned in another forum that Solaris 10 SPARC support for the Sil680A was added with patch 120197-01. The capacity is limited by the driver. On comp.unix.solaris Casper Dik (the author of the Solaris 2.x FAQ) confirmed that Solaris 10 x86 supports LBA48, while SPARC doesn't. Maybe the uata driver has been updated/enhanced in the meantime (the information is from January 2006).
The HCL has not been much help.
That's true, because it doesn't apply to SPARC, only to x86/x64.
Merry Christmas !

  • K9vgm-v problem with pci ide controller card

My problem is with a promise ultra100 tx2 pci ide controller card that I got with a western digital hard drive a year or 2 back. I can plug the card in with no hard drives attached to it, boot into windows, update the drivers, etc. but when I plug either of my hard drives into the card, it goes to a black screen directly after the screen the promise controller brings up after the main msi bios screen.
It's my understanding that this problem is caused because the ide controller card can't inject its bios into the option rom of the motherboard. I've tried disabling as many other features that I can in the bios to clear up some space in the option rom, but so far no luck. I made sure I have the latest MSI bios, but I am 1 or 2 revisions behind on the promise controller card bios, because I don't have a floppy drive and I can't get any bootable cds to work.
If need be, I can get a new ide controller card, but I would rather not, because this one works just fine, and I am pretty short on cash. I am also worried that this same problem will happen with other controller cards that I pick up. Any advice on how to get this thing working?
P.S. - is there any way to get this board to boot from a USB key? My only options in the bios for booting to USB are USB-FDD, USB-ZIP, and USB-CDROM.

  • 975X and a PCI Controller Card

I am trying to install another SATA controller card to I can flash my firmware on my 360. But for what ever reason this board (975X) isn't allowing me to ever boot to the PCI card.
Any ideas on what settings I need to pick to do it?
    Thanks!

I think I have tried that and nothing worked. The card is seen in Windows but just not while booting. I'll try it again here once my computer is done doing some things to where I can reboot. I wanted to make sure I was doing it right and it sounds like I am.

  • KEC 7002 IDE Controller card

Yes i have windows 7 with a DC7800 CMT and i put in a IDE controller card The IDE Controller card..i put it in my PCI slot and hooked up the ide card to the card and my hard drive and put the 4 pin power cord into the hard drive..i know the hard drive is getting power but it is not showing up in the hard drive secotion of my computer..i have the jumper set to slave since i have a main SATA hard drive as the main hard drive..im using the IDE as a slave for more space..anyone can help that would be great! Thanks

Why IDE hard drive would be my first question, but your needs might outweigh me asking. There is no Master with SATA. A single EIDE/IDE drive is a Master on the cabling. Here is a link to the proper master/slave issue and the location of such drives on the cabling.

  • Additional PCI IDE controller does not work

I have an on-board IDE controller but I have several disks. So I bought an additional PCI IDE controller. However, Solaris 10 does not recognize it and doesn't see any disks on it. (reports "driver not attached "for the device).
Is there a way to make the external PCI controller work?

Hi, I'm having a similar problem and hope there is a solution. In my case, I bought one of the "reported to work" IDE controllers - the adaptec ASH-1233.
The board is not being recognized by Solaris. Running Nevada build 27a.
I followed the directions that Juergen Keil posted, and the directions on bigadmin associated with the card. That includes adding a line to devicedb/master:
pci1095,680 pci-ide msd pci ata.bef "Silicon Image 680 PATA Controller"
Then touching /reconfigure and doing a reboot.
The device is not found and reported in /var/adm/messages. It is shown by prtconv -pv though, with the matching identifier (pci1095,680).
So the device exists but isn't found by Solaris Nevada b27a. Thanks for any advice...

  • PCI IDE Cards

I just got a good deal on a 320GB Seagate Barracuda HD. My only limitation is the 128GB limit my Mac sees it as.
    After looking here: http://lowendmac.com/macdan/05/1024.html
bI figured a PCI IDE card would be the best choice for my G3. So I could split it into 2 partitions with Panther on the first partition and 9 on the second.
My question is, are the PCI cards plug and play without drivers (like the hard drive) or do I need a "Mac-Specific" card or Mac drivers to use it with my hard drive?

The 128 GB limitation applies to the onboard IDE controller, and not to an ATA-133 controller card that supports 48-bit logical block addressing, which enables recognition of large drives. If connected to an ATA-133 controller card, partitioning the 320 GB drive is your choice, although I prefer to partition larger drives for the ease/speed of routine disk maintenance. The Acard AEC-6280M ATA-133 controller card for Macs is consistently priced lowest here.
Sonnet and SIIG also market Mac controller cards, but whichever brand that you choose to purchase, it must be the Mac version, because the PC versions of these cards aren't compatible. Bootable controller cards must be firmware-based and not driver-based. The card's ROM is read at boot, so that connected drive(s) are functional. If the controller card required a driver to be read from the hard drive, the sequence for doing so couldn't occur, because the hard drive isn't recognized until the controller card (to which it's connected) is recognized.

The controller card is a "no name" one. Though traceable as Titan with a Winbond chip, I'll get more info on that as well later. It's an Ultra ATA - 133 PCI Controller, and it seems to be working since the drivers installed correctly and the device is showing correctly.
For the PSU I will have to get back to you, don't have time to check that right now.

  • PCI USB2 Controller card conflicts with network card

I've installed a PCI USB2 controller card since my motherboard (IWill K266-R) only has support for USB1. However, the card seems to conflict with one of my network cards, because traffic on the internet-connected NIC is very slow, and often drops completely. Traffic to and from the other (local) NIC seems to work fine, though.
I have tried moving around all three cards in different PCI slots, I think I've tested almost every possible combination by now. I've also tried disabling as much as possible in BIOS, such as onboard sound, serial and parallel ports etc. I've tried lowering the FSB.
For now, I've removed the controller card, and is using the USB1 ports on the motherboard instead. This is very frustrating, though.
Does anyone have any suggestion on what I can try next? I've browsed forums, both this and others, but I haven't found any more hints on what to try. Could there be some setting in Arch that could affect these sorts of things?

"I guess the ATA100 card will work fine correct?"
If you mean large drive support, it may provide that or may require a firmware update to do so. You should check the manufacturer's web site for specifics. All ATA-133 cards do provide 48-bit LBA for large drive support. I'd return the Ultra ATA-66 card to the eBay seller, although many refuse to pay for return shipping, even when the mistake is their own, either through ignorance or deliberate misrepresentation. In cases such as this, it's sometimes more cost-effective to swallow the loss and keep the incorrect part.
"Will adding a jumper apply for a ATA100 card as well? I'll need a blue and gray ribbon correct?"
If you use an 80-conductor ribbon cable with color-keyed connectors, set the drive configuration jumper to CS and connect the drives to the cable as you wish (in terms of physical placement in the computer). If the ribbon cable doesn't have color-keyed connectors, set the jumper for the device connected to the end connector as Master and the drive (if any) connected to the middle connector as Slave.

I didn't find any solution after searching on Google, but it seems there are a few other people experiencing the same problem as me. I haven't actively tried anything yet.
I don't have much experience when it gets to this kind of things, so I hope there are some of you who can help me.
    Thank you!

In case someone else has the same problem, there's actually a package in the AUR that fixes the problem : https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/ricoh-e823-fix/
Install it and enables it with systemd and it should work correctly!

  • Calling dll of Leetro MPC08 PCI motion controller card problems.

    Hi,
I have been trying to develop an application using Labview 8.5.  I need to control a motorized linear stage which uses the Leetro MPC08 PCI motion controller card.  The manufacturer gave me example VIs which I configure to call "c:\windows\system32\MPC08.dll".  About four months ago, I remembered that i tested them and they seemed to work somehow (but I did not finish the full test since i was busy doing other things).  Nevertheless, when I got back to continue my development a few days ago, i just could not get the same old VIs to work.  I could only get one library function of the card to work which is the "auto_set" which returns "4" which is the number of axes that the card can control.  The next function I need to call is "init_board" but this one keeps returning "-3".  The manual indicates that any negative number returned means there has been something wrong.  I would guess it is "PCI initialization fails" but honestly do not know for sure.  Can anyone help?  My computer is a PC running windows XP.
Thanks in advance for any kind help offered.

    Hi,
Wrapped VISA call means that the SubVI contains a set of VISA calls.
If you are calling the VI's individually it is possible that the VI's need to pass a reference to each other, so they might not work if run individually.  Hard to know without the DLL docs, so to speak.  It could be possible that there is no need to pass references between subVI's.
Direct VISA calls are probably not necessary if the device runs with the vendors software.  The main goal was to verify functionality with either VISA or vendor app.
Ok I was looking at the Leetro web site, you can forget the VISA stuff as it is a PCI card, duh... you said that at the begining. :-)
The manual says Win2000 or XP.  is this being run on two different systems?

  • PCI ATA 133 RAID Card VS. PCI ATA 133 Controller Card

    Hello,
I just bought a 300gb HD to put into my QS. I know I need to add another ATA card, but I noticed in stores there is a PCI ATA 133 RAID and a PCI ATA 133 Controller card.
What is the difference? The ATA 133 Raid card I saw is considerably cheaper. Can I use it to run my 300Gb drive as my startup drive (iDVD issues!)?
    Thanks for your help.

Additional question: I have seen that there are a number of issues with SATA II drives in the early G5. Can you recommend a drive in the 500 GB range that would work well in the Dual 1.8 GHz? A SATA II would be a good option for the future... Thanks!

Otherwise, you'll be better off with a ExpressPCI UL4D or UL4S. I have run a UL4D in my G4 MDD for years with absolutely no problem. You could get one from ebay for cheap.

  • Serial ATA Controller Card for bigger hard drives on 8600/300

    Hi again,
Can a Serial ATA Controller Card work on the PowerMac 8600/300 as well as on the G4 tower?
How can I tell if the PCI slots are the same?
    Thanks
    web dude

According to the specs listed for Sonnet's Tempo Serial ATA controller card, it's compatible with the early PCI Macs - like the 8600, as well as newer G3s, G4s, etc. The FirmTek SeriTek 1S2 SATA controller card has gotten favorable feedback in the Forums. The 8600's PCI slots are probably PCI 2.0-compliant, whereas the G4 AGPs probably have PCI 2.1-compliant slots. Even though the FirmTek card specifies PCI 2.2-compliant slots, it's undoubtedly backward-compatible. If you just want to use larger IDE/EIDE drives in your 8600, the (now-discontinued) Acard Ultra ATA-66 PCI controller card is an inexpensive solution at $25. Unlike the Acard Ultra ATA-133 controller card, it has the 128 GB limit, so a 120 GB drive is the optimal choice for it. Newegg has a Seagate 120 GB ATA-100 (8 MB Cache) hard drive for $55. I've got (3) 8600/300s and they were one of Apple's better-designed towers, especially with the large cooling fan in the side panel. I installed a G3/266 MHz processor in one, along with a pair of 4 GB hard drives, an ATI Rage 128 graphics card, and FireWire and USB PCI cards. It runs so well and quietly, that I'm reluctant to part with it - in spite of the fact that I rarely use it anymore. With the hard drive mounting plate on the bottom of the chassis floor, it can accommodate more hard drives than the shortened version of the same mini-tower case, used for the beige G3s.
