PCI IRQ=9 for multiple PCI cards.

With NI's HPIB488 interface, third party ethernet, and acrnet cards installed, all plug and play, all PCI devices, IRQ=9 is always set. We have tried several PC's, Pentium Pro, Pentium II, etc. with Win2000. We must communicate between several different devices. I have seen other comments about IRQ=9 being set, but no final fixes. Has anyone information on how to overcome this problem.

What motherboard and BIOS are you using?
I think IRQ 9 is used for ACPI on some motherboards. Check
to see if "Plug and Play OS" is enabled in your BIOS. If you
are using Window NT, then it should be set to OFF.

  • Power Supply for multiple Graphics Cards

I recently purchased an X1900 G5 Mac card. I now have my original (NVIDIA GEForce 6600LE) plus this new one. If I purchase yet another X1900, how do I get power to it? There is only one power jack on the mother board.
What are my options? Can my power supply support more caards? How do I connect them to the power supply? ATI pointed me to Apple support

Slot 1 (bottom) is the only slot designed for a high powered card. It is also the only 16 lane PCI-Express slot. The other slots have a power limit of 25 watts. Slot 3 is 8 lane, 2 and 4 are only 4 lane.
    <http://developer.apple.com/documentation/Hardware/Conceptual/HWtechPCI/Articles/pci_implementation.html#//apple_ref/doc/uid/TP40003937-DontLinkElem entID64>
Put the 1900 in slot 1 (bottom), and the 6600 in slot 3. Even if there was enough power for a second 1900, it would not have the bus bandwidth because there is only one 16x slot.

  • Trouble configuring Xserver for multiple graphics cards

I suspect I have a fairly simple problem but am getting in over my head and need some help setting up a multihead X configuration.
I have a plain vanilla installation of Solaris 9 on an Ultra 60, 1.5GB, 2x450 MHz CPUs, originally configured with one Elite3D lite card in the 64 bit/66 MHz PCI slot as a single head installation. All ran fine.
I have now added a pair of Elite3D-m3 cards in the 2 UPA slots. At boot, the Elite3D in the first UPA slot comes up as the character mode console device and the OS boots normally up to the point of starting X/CDE desktop then defaults to the console login with " ...could not start X server..." error message .
I configured the Xservers file to include the two Elite as the default display :0.0 on /dev/fbs/afb0 and /dev/fbs/afb1, but on closer examination, found that the devices do not exist in /dev or /dev/fbs.
I do have a device /dev/fbs/ifb0 corresponding to the Expert3D lite card, known to function normally as a single headed machine.
    Here are the questions:
    1. How do I obtain and install the necessary device files, /dev/fbs/afb0 and /dev/fbs/afb1 to allow the two Elite3Ds to drive 2 monitors under X/CDE? What are the necessary packages needed to drive the Elite3Ds?
    2. In the meantime, how can I start the Xserver in the expert3D card? The Xserver will not start (gives errors) by simply defining :0.0 to be /dev/fbs/ifb0 (Expert3D lite) in /usr/dt/config/Xserver. This device is not the default Solaris character mode boot console device, so I am not sure how to set up the Xserver file to run the X session on this card **alone** to tide me over pending Elite3D's configured and running and the new monitors are delivered.
I recall that CDE and X require special consideration for this situation where the boot console device and the graphical device to run X are not identical. The Xservers file comments refer to this problem but I cannot seem to find sufficient documentation to figure out how to configure this situation.
I would like to avoid ripping out the two just installed cards to get back to the original configuration.
Thanks for the help in advance.

Please note the following erratum: The original configuration was with an Expert3D lite in the 64bit/66 MHz PCI slot, not an Elite3D. Thanks.

  • Support for multiple Cuda cards?

Just wondering. if I have more than one supported GTX 4XX cards in my box, does the acceleration benefit from both GPUs? or is it one or the other?

With After Effects, as long as they use the same driver, they should work together to improve your rendering.

  • VI Logger - use of multiple DAQ cards

How do I configure VI Logger to acquire data from multiple DAQ cards?
I have set up channels for two DAQ cards but the VI Logger Tasks seems only capable of acquiring from either DAQ card, not both.

    Hi Metronet,
VI Logger doesn't support acquiring data from multiple DAQ cards.
VI Logger was a free software tool that came with new DAQ cards up until the end of March. To get customers up and running and acquiring data in the quickest possible time.
VI Logger however is not LabVIEW, and as such cannot use more than 1 DAQ card at any one time. If you want to acquire from multiple cards then you will need to program in LabVIEW, CVI, Visual Basic or Visual C.
I am sorry that I have to inform you of this, but NI has no plans to release VI Logger with support for multiple DAQ cards.

  • How to adjust IRQ for PCI card within BIOS - K7T Turbo

    Hello,
I have a new Diamond firewire external 160 Gb harddisk.
In spite I have upgraded the BIOS for my K7T Turbo board to version 3.6 (by specs at MSI at least I should use version 3.4 to run 160 Gb HD's), I get I/O errors after trying to copy lot of data to the harddisk.  ;( Afterwards I am losing contact to the device and get exclamation marks within the system configuration.
In searching for the errors, it could be the controller of the harddisk itself is not running proper, because I get NO fault by the firewire device within my PC, but just the Diamond controller + harddisk.
To make a last try if I can fix it, I want to give the internal firewire card an own IRQ number. Now with PnP options, many devices are sharing the same IRQ 11.
How can I set a fixed IRQ to the fourth (4e) PCI card within the BIOS?
Looking to the settings it seems I only can manage it when it is an ISA card, but those cards are not used any longer in modern mainboards.
Here are some screendumps of the errors.
    1.
No problems after a hard reboot.
    http://members.chello.nl/~l.obers/MSI/1_reboot_no_error_a.gif
    2. Closer look for the following devices.
The contents of the red boxe within the device system shall disappear after the error.. The blue ones do get exclamation marks
    http://members.chello.nl/~l.obers/MSI/2_reboot_no_error_b.gif
3+4. Error messages after a short while when trying to copy many data (above 4 Gb).
    http://members.chello.nl/~l.obers/MSI/3_Error_message.gif
    http://members.chello.nl/~l.obers/MSI/4_Error_message.gif
    5. Errors within the system configuration.
Input 1 do get an exclamation mark first, afterwards input 2
    http://members.chello.nl/~l.obers/MSI/5_many_data_error_b.gif
The input of the previuos mentioned red box "general volume" (one is of the Diamond controller), is lost.
Within the file explorer also the harddisk volumes are lost.
    6. The log files show a controller error of the disk at IRQ 11
    http://members.chello.nl/~l.obers/MSI/6_system_log.gif
Because no errors are found within the 1394 (firewire) device itself, I guess the problem is the Diamond controller of the harddisk.
But before going to the shop, I want to try to give the HD an own IRQ.
    Regards, Léon Obers

Mmm. I just see some other options.
The device called "1394 CF type II IEEE 1394 SBP2 device is an extrenal firewire Compact flash reader, not a Diamond controller. (It is connected, during the test, but not used for copying files).
In that case, it could be, that the firewire card itself is the troublesome device. First CF-card reader is lost from connection (exclamation mark), afterwards the Firewire harddisk.
    Regards, Léon Obers

  • Recommendations? USB 2.0 & Firewire PCI card for MDD Dual Boot G4 (1.25 Ghz

Can anyone recommend a good USB 2.0 and Firewire combo PCI card? (at least 3 USB 2.0 ports and 2 FW) for my G4 MDD Dual Boot- 1.25 Ghz)?
I have an Orangelink+ Micro USB 2.0/FW PCI card from the days of OS 9- that's supposed to be USB 2.0 under OS X, but isn't (it shows up as max 12/mbps in System Profiler). I'd like to get an external Hard Drive and most of them are USB 2.0 now.
    Another question:
Under system profiler, it shows that I have one USB 2.0 port. I'm assuming it's an internal port, because all of the external ports show transfer rates of 12mbps. Is this a correct assumption?
Thanks in advance for any help!

I have found a person who has a driver software to connect Labview with a general PCI card. But he says that i need to download a freeware software from NI website to configure the PCI card. But you have mentioned that freeware is for GPIB boards. Is it correct ?? Is there any other way out ??

I would ask the person who told you about the freeware software to help you find exactly where it is. I am not aware of any freeware software for configuring motion PCI cards but maybe the person you know might be able to help you locate it.

  • Upgrading the G3 /DT with USB PCI Card for Printer Connection

I would like to connect a Brother MFC-9160 laser printer to one of my Beige G3 /DT with Macintosh OS 9.2.2 installed.
There are two ways to do that: USB or Parallel. I don't know if Parallel adapters for Macintosh are available. This is the reason why I am favouring the solution of PCI USB upgrade.
The problem is that the few USB adapters I saw on sale on various French Mac warehouses were all USB 2.0 compliant, and required a Power Macintosh G3 /BW.
I suppose that a USB 2.0 compliant card is also de facto USB 1.1 compliant, but I am not sure. Besides the hardware issue, there is of course the problem of support on a Beige G3 for USB 1.1.
Could you please elaborate on the hardware which would run on a Beige G3? I am open to any friendly advice

By the way I wonder if it would be possible to
connect to the laser printer through electricity
network. No cables, here because the building in 400
years old and too large. Wireless, he he... Not even
    worth speaking about it....
I'm not sure about what kind of electrical wiring you have available over there, or if these kind of products are compatible, but there are some options in the US for using the electrical outlets in a house to create a LAN network. With this kind of network you could use keep the printer on the B&W and turn on USB printer sharing. Printing from OS 9 on the G3 might not work with all printers. That kind of networking equipment is more costly than just adding a USB PCI card to the G3 to use the printer directly, but you might also be able to share a single high-speed internet connection that way. It all depends on what your needs are.
Is this what you were asking about?

  • PCI Card for Analog output in the range of 10mv

    dear ni,
I want to know about the PCI card that can be generate analog output in the range of maximum 10mv. i  am going to use for caliberation of loadcell, strain gauges devices.
could you tell me on which PCI card will support this type of application.
    Regards,
    Balaji DP

    Try:  http://www.ni.com/dataacquisition/
These have analog output voltages < 10V:   http://sine.ni.com/nifn/cds/view/main/p/sn/n12:7604,n3:7853/lang/en/nid/1036/ap/daq
You need something with a high bit count to get good resolution at 10 mV, such as the PCI-6010 which has a 16 bit D/A.
Here are the minimum voltage specs for the 6010:
    Minimum Voltage Range
    -0.2..0.2 V
          Range Accuracy
    283 µV
          Range Sensitivity
    6.4 µV

  • Driver development for custom PCI card

    Hi friends,
I've a PCI card developed in-house. How to prepare a driver for the same in LabVIEW? Can I develop drivers in VISA? I don't have a manufacture id. Is there any other method to develop a driver for PCI card? Once developed, can I use them for other platforms like VC++? My OS is Windows 9X/NT & 2000. I need a driver to use for all these. Lot of querries! hope I made it clear.

THE ANSWER IS THAT YES YOU CAN DO THIS IN NI-VISA!
Some have said that you need a kernel driver. This is partially true in that a PXI or PCI card (they are the same as viewed by the OS) must have a kernel driver. NI-VISA provides one for you.
You said that you do not have a manufacturer ID. This is a requirement of all PCI cards and no kind of driver will work until the card has one. Once you have this ID, run the VISA PXI Driver Development Wizard and it will generate an INF for you for all supported NI-VISA environments that support PXI/PCI. Read the instructions in the appropriate INF file for how to install it into the system so that the OS will attach NI-VISA to your device. It's really simple. NI-VISA supports PXI/PCI on Windows 95, 98, ME, NT
4, 2000, XP, and LabVIEW RT.
Some have said that MAX will just show you all PXI/PCI devices in your system. Your device will not show up until NI-VISA can see it, and that won't happen until you generate an INF as described above.
Since the INF file associates NI-VISA itself to your card, the ADE you use does not matter. NI-VISA supports PXI/PCI in LabVIEW, CVI, MSVC, Visual Basic, or any other ADE that normally works with VISA.
NI-VISA works well even with more advanced devices because we support all types of register accesses (config, I/O, memory) as well as interrupt handling. Just look at the visa.h that NI ships in the VXIpnp directory. If you are using C/C++, make sure you define NIVISA_PXI before including visa.h. If you use LabVIEW, you need to use the address space numbers as defined in visa.h.
    Good luck.

  • System profiler "information is not available" for PCI cards

After swapping two cards in their slots, I get the message system profiler "information is not available" for all PCI cards. Mac Pro 4 core 2.66, OS X 4.11 server. The cards are still working. I tried clearing PRAM, etc. Is this a hardware problem or just system profiler being difficult? Is there any way to tell?

That is a bit odd. Maybe try forcing kextd to run can resolve. You might be working off cached info and it is giving System Profiler a hard time. Run this command and then reboot:
    sudo touch /System/Library/Extensions
That will update the modify time of the Extensions folder and trick the system into thinking you installed new drivers. This will force an update of the kernel caches when you reboot.
Not sure it this will do it, but best I could think of.
    Hope it helps.

  • Shopping for PCI cards

    I'm looking for ::
    USB 2.0
    Firewire 800
    SATA controller
    Gigabit ethernet
I'd love to get combo cards if possible. i.e. USB/firewire and Gigabit/SATA. Really any combination of those 4 would be fantastic.
any recomendations? I'm tired of searching eBay and "screening" every auction to see if the PCI cards are compatable with my slots.

anyone know of any *tried and true* devices?

    Mike Lowry wrote:
    Thanks.
not a whole lot of firewire 800 products. not to mention cards compatable with my G3 desktop.
    helpfull still.
That may be the difficulty in getting the latest USB2/FW800/Gigabit/SATA cards, since when the PCI hardware was introduced with those newer standards the beige G3 was already a dinosaur, so they were likely designed for official support and compatibility with the current computer models at the time and since.
You might have better luck with compatibility with the older USB1/FW400/ATA card for example. (Not sure why you need Gigabit, if the on-board Ethernet is still functional anyway.) That's not to say the newer cards won't work at all, but you may be the guinea pig who finds out if they do. I'd be interested in your results with the SATA, if you can get that to work or not. I haven't heard of any one using them in the G3 here, if so I must have missed it.
Sonnet had a Tempo Trio card that combined USB/FW/ATA, not sure what the latest version of that is now. They provide a good support section with the latest Mac drivers and firmware updates for their older products, also the ACARD brand has several Mac hard drive controllers. Go for a hardware RAID card if you really want to boost disc read/write performance, all the other interface theoretical speeds are still limited by the hard drive read/write heads. With a striped RAID 0, two heads are better than one, as they can operate simultaneously. Let me know if you can get those 250GB SATA working in a RAID 0, I am thinking about going that route when I run out of space with my 2x120GB ATA66 RAID, if I keep the computer going that long. Although the ATA133 card may work just as well.
Anybody using either of these SATA cards in their Beige G3?
