If your not hearing dial tone you might have your phone plugged into the wrong port. Most modems have 2 outlets, one is labeled line ( that is the one you should have plugged into the jack (RJ11C). If that's correct, query the modem and see if it tests OK, you may have a defective modem.

  • Audigy Platinum and 56K PCI modem confl

I have had modem connection problems so I reformatted the hard dri've and reloaded the OS to get a clean start. Now, I have a conflict with the Audigy Platinum and 56K PCI modem. The sound card works great until I dial-out on the modem - at that point there is either no sound or a high-pitched tone is heard when a sound is played. Also, if I am activly connected to the internet and play a sound, the connection will drop and the modem will refuse to reconnect with various errors (no dial tone or port already open). The only way to reset the sound card and modem is to reboot. If I disable the Audigy card under device manager, the modem works great - connects and reconnects fine. BTW, this is the third PCI modem I have tried, all by different manufactures and chipsets, so I don't think it is a modem problem.
Some system specs:XP Home SP 2Audigy Platinum with the latest production drivers availableUS Robotics 56K PCI modem model #5660AAsus A7N8X deluxe motherboard with on-board sound disabled
The Audigy card is installed in a PCI slot that is not shared, also the Audigy card is using IRQ 5 and the modem is on IRQ using COMM port 3. Everything looks fine under Device Manager (no unknown devices or devices with errors). MSINFO32 shows no device conflicts.
Has anyone seen this before? Any workarounds? Any idea why the Audigy card would conflict with the modem like this?
    Thanks,Terry C.

I updated the BIOS to the latest ASUS release, 008, and it seemed to resolve the problem.

  • PCI Modem in a B&W G3?

    Hello,
I am interested in putting a modem into a B&W G3. I have found some good prices for PCI modems on ebay, however, I am not sure if these modems will work in my computer. I know that one of the great things about Macs is that installation of drivers is usually not required. Would this be true with a PCI Modem?
    Thank You for your help!
    Video Guy

Unfortunately, there are no PCI modem cards that are Mac-compatible, mainly because so many of those used in PCs were fully or partially software-based (WinTel modems). A full-hardware modem has an onboard DSP and controller, but software-based modems pass off some of these chores to the CPU through software. As far as I know, the only 100% hardware-based PCI modem card in production is the US Robotics 56K v.92 Performance Pro, but there are no Mac drivers for it - either through US Robotics or built into OS X. Some B&W G3s (Build-to-Order models) shipped with Apple's proprietary internal modem card, that connects to the COMM slot with a ribbon cable. I think MegaMacs had some new "old stock" Global Village 56K v.90 modem cards, designed for the B&W G3s, PCI Graphics G4s, and early iMacs. I'll double-check my bookmark for the retailer (when I'm using my B&W), but I know that they were selling for $19.99. You could also use a hardware-based external modem and connect it to a USB port, using a DB-9 or DB-25 serial-to-USB adapter. There are several on the market, but IOGEAR's adapter has Mac drivers for OS 9 and OS X. When I needed a modem for one of my B&W G3's, I considered buying one of the Global Village internal cards, but decided to use one of my US Robotics 56K v.90/x2 external modems, connected via USB with the IOGEAR adapter. My other B&W has the Apple internal modem card, but in terms of performance, the US Robotics is a little better. I've also used BestData's 56K v.92 (56USBPMAC) external USB (bus-powered) modem, which worked well and eliminated another power supply, crowding the surge protector.

  • Can't get my pci modem to work in the ms - 6215

does anyone know how to get my pci modem to work in a ms - 6215, I've tried everything that I can think of including installing a modem  known to be good, since the motherboard is very unique in so that it has a riser that only has two pci slots on it and I've tried both of them, the os is windows me and when I first booted up all it found was an unknown pci card so I told it it was the modem and when I went to the modems in the control panel it tells me that it couldn't open the port even though the irq and com port info is the same in windows as to the post screen, the type of modem is a pctell 56k, and the guy who brought me this thing told me he didn't have the driver cd that came with it but since I have a external modem that worked with it I was able to update all of the motherboard drivers...

  • Audigy 1 Spontaneously Uninstalling, Phantom PCI Modem Shows

I have a weird problem happening with my Audigy card (XP Home SP2, motherboard is an A7N8X-E Deluxe). The other day when I reboot the machine, I was prompted to install a PCI modem. This was news to me since my machine doesn't have one! Then I noticed the sound wasn't working.
When I checked Device Manager, I saw this:
    http://img299.imageshack.us/img299/87/missing2tu5.png
Under "Other devices", there's a "PCI Modem" with a yellow exclaimation mark. Under SCSI and Raid controllers, the "Silicon Image SiI 32 SATARaid Controller" is also yellow (I don't use RAID). Under "Sound, Video and game controllers", both "Creative Game Port" and "Creative SB Audigy" show in yellow.
When I reboot, everything is fine:

Nothing shows with a yellow exclamation mark, and that mysterious PCI modem has vanished.
This has happened twice so far. Anyone have any idea what is going on?

  • PLZ. HELP !!!  ---  HOW TO Configure my "Internal PCI MODEM" in Sol9-X86.

    Hi Folks!!
I am Karthi from India and have recently purchased Solaris 9 for X86 Platform.
I am really at a loss as to how to configure my Connexant-based Internal PCI MODEM.
Will Solaris 9 recognise my Connexant-based MODEM from an Indian company or do I have to purchase any other "Solaris 9 supported MODEM Chipsets"?
Can you please help me out by giving any weblink or brief steps to go about it.
I will be grateful to you and advance thanks to whoever is willing to help this helpless amateur.
Bye and have a nice day!!!

Ok here is a brief answer to your question if it is a Linux HCL modem then you can search on google or check out http://www.linuxant.com/drivers/ for information.
If it is a winmodem then you pretty much have a worthless modem for running any type of Unix/Linux. However you should be able to buy a Serial Modem for around $30-$50 USD that is compatible with almost anything since they have been around forever and use a different communication scheme than PCI.

  • PCI modem for Blue & White G3?

The internal modem drivers shown in Tiger make it seem like I could install almost any PCI type internal modem in my Blue & White G3. Is this true?
    Thanks,
    Eric

I've yet to find any PCI modem cards that are Mac-compatible, especially since most of them are the inexpensive WinModem type (software-based). The US Robotics Performance Pro v.92 PCI Modem card is about the only one that would be worth trying, as it's a controller-based modem with onboard DSP. Unfortunately, US Robotics never developed a Mac driver for it.
Incidentally, you should post future questions about your B&W G3 in its designated Expansion Forum.

The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)
Kindly sugest me the what to do

    Hello rajeevkumar30
As I understand it you reinstalled Windows XP and now you have devices that are not being installed correctly? I would suggest that you visit the Compaq Presario V2000 CTO Notebook PC Drivers page and ensure that ALL your drivers and software are up to date. I would start with any BIOS and Firmware updates first than ensure your Drivers are up to date before moving on to your software.
As these are the drivers designed for your system this should resolve your issue. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great day!

  • K8N DIAMOND PLUS, PCI MODEM shows up

After I disable the on board sound I get this "PCI modem" new device message ever time I reboot, and its also sitting in the device manager, and I have NO idea what it is, so I cant install any drivers to get to the bottom of it.
Anyone figure this one out yet?

    Hello,
About that Phantom PCI Modem, apparently the bios doesn't fully disable the onboard sound.  So windows misdetects the onboard sound as the PCI Modem. If you enable the onboard sound the PCI modem will disappear.  Many people are having the same problem with the diamond plus, including myself but I use the onboard sound, You can write to MSI and ask for a beta BIOS for your board or just disable it in device manager so it won't ask you for the drivers all the time.
Basically the PCI Modem is your onboard sound when it is disabled in bios.  I would just disable it in device manager so it doesn't ask for drivers if your using another sound card.   Hope this makes sense

  • PCI Modem??? I don't have one installed... K8N Diamond Plus...

This is what I've got installed on the K8N Diamond Plus:
    AMD x2 4400+ @ 2.75 GHz
    4 GB DDR 500 GigaRAM
2x EVGA GeForce 7800GT's in SLi
    Sound Blaster XFi Fatality Edition
    2x 74 GB WDC Raptors (non-RAID)
2x 320 GB WDC SATA Raid Drives (RAID-0 on Sil3132 chipset)
    Sony DRU 810 DVD Recorder
    Sony CRX 320 Combo Drive
WinXP Pro 32-Bit SP2 installed (WinXP Pro 64-Bit this weekend)
Windows installed A-O-K, drivers no prob, but, I ran into two snags. One, in my system properties a "PCI Modem" shows up looking for a driver. Second, I have a Koutech Firewire 800 / USB 2.0 PCI-e card that picks up when it wants to. That card has been removed physically and I'm planning on RMA'ing the Combo card...so far. Has anyone seen a phantom modem card? I'm really hoping and praying that it's not the motherboard that's defective.
The only other minor issue is that my memory in the BIOS detects as DDR 333 at 2.6v. GigaRAM recommends 2.9-3.1v, but I cannot adjust the voltage in the BIOS. Is there a physical way thru the BIOS (without voiding the warranty) or only way I'll be able to thru software??? Prefer not to. Any help on the issues mentioned will be appreciated.

  • K8n NEO4 bios update to 1D: audigy + pci modem = no start (not even video signal

I updated my old 1.4 bios (alredy updated once) to 1D. The system was running fine but i was preparing for dual core update.
After bios update the neo4 was like dead. Not even video signal.
I removed both SB audigy and pci adsl modem and it started as usual.
If i add 1 pci card only (audigy OR PCI modem) the system works, while if i add BOTH the cards it is dead.
Changing slots did not solve the problem.
System is running with defaults values.
Any bios setting? do i have to go back to 1.4, 1.5 or 1.6 bios to use an athlon 64 X2 4800+?

  • Hyper-V locks up PCI modem port on host machine

I have a Windows 2008 Server with a PCI US Robotics Fax/Modem card installed.  Additionally, this Win2008 Server is running a virtual machine (Hyper-V) that is configured to be an SQL server.
When the virtual machine is OFF.  I have no issues with the Fax/Modem on the host.
As soon as I start the VM, I cannot query my modem and all Fax/Modem functions stop working.  The issue is the COM3 Port assigned to the Fax/Modem is being opened and never released by the VM.  As soon as I stop the VM, all Fax/Modem functionality
returns to normal and I can open COM3 and query the modem.
    Thanks, Jim

I installed a USB Modem (Creative Modem Blaster).  This has the same issue; actually both modems have the same issue (I left the internal US Robotics modem installed).
Not all VMs are stealing my modems.  I have a Server with about 5 VMs and none of the VM's are stealing my modem.  I installed another VM that is being used as a domain controller and this VM does not steal my modem.  BUT, this one VM is stealing
any modem I connect except a modem connected to the serial port.
The VM in question is running SQL server under a cluster with 2 nodes.  It is using 3 of the 4 NICs, 4 CPUs and 8GM of RAM.
Does anyone know of any reason a VM would grab a hold of a modem and not let it go?
